TPQ Stranger Things AU is officially titled “Highway to Hell”

@authoralexharvey was kind enough to tag me in a Heads Up 7 Up game, but I've been very sporadic in my writing and not quite satisfied with sharing progress I've made in the WIPs, but we're back, and I'm sharing! I'll tag some recent mutuals here, @hollyannewrites, @kaiusvnoir, @vmccombs, @modernauthors, @primroseprime2019, and @ss-hawthorne This here's from Pound of Flesh, if you're new to the WIP it's a sorta-horror sorta-drama all-thriller about a trans woman who gets sent down a dark path after fate aligns her with a tech startup whose gimmick is providing elective surgeries to folks for free (with the caveat of those surgeries being livestreamed to an audience and performed without anasthesia), and her best friend's efforts to keep her off the operating table. This little tidbit is from a much more manageable part of the story where one of the dual protagonists is preparing to start a new job at a place she's already fallen in love with. Yamini Lal, the other character, is a non-binary cashier and stocker at the business, which is a sort of indie bookstore/cafe that caters to a specific crowd, one that Valentine envisions herself as fitting right in with. __

“What happened to the last barista? I can’t imagine this being that stressful of a job, even when it’s crowded.”

“Oh, it was nothing like that, he just got accepted to an art program out of state. We wouldn’t have expected him to say ‘no’, and he didn’t want to pass it up. We miss him a lot, actually.”

“Oh, well that’s nice for him, at least, but sad for you guys.” Yamini shrugged, “If he wanted to stay, he would have. I’m happy that he’s where he wants to be. I like it here, I stay here, y’know?”

“I do, I do know. I guess I’m a little more selfish, I’d just be thinking… what about what I really want to do?”

“I can see that. Although, thinking of yourself isn’t selfishness, benefiting at the expense of others is. I had to learn how to cut myself slack like that, too. I guess it’s just lucky for me that what I want to do isn’t too far removed from this. I don’t hate coming to work and I don’t hate being at home, and maybe that’s enough for me. If it isn’t, that’s future me’s problem.”

I nod at them. “That’s a really good way to look at it.”

Marah (17yo) and Mosa (16yo) are 2 kids from Gaza that I met on twitter, Marah is a friend of someone I hosted a GFM for and Mosa is related to that person.

STAGNANT CAMPAIGN: HELP 17-YEAR-OLD MARAH AND HER FAMILY SURVIVE GENOCIDE

The manager of Marah's GFM campaign asked me to share her latest update:

"Months into the bombardment and Marah and her family have been displaced many times. The money from this campaign is what she and her family have to rely upon for food, water, shelter, and escape. The situation is terrifying every day, but you can make a difference. The progress on this campaign is sometimes slow, and days can go by without a donation, but despite all of that I have so far been able to transfer 6,000 dollars over these months thanks to your contributions. It has helped feed the children, and to make sure they could buy medicine for their mother when she fell ill. When you donate and share their story, you are helping make it possible for them to survive this impossible situation.

Marah has some words she would like me to share with you as well: "Please help me reach my goal and survive this nightmare. My family and I want to survive and continue my education and achieve my goals. I see my family in good health. There is danger and death everywhere. Every day we face death thousands of times. Please help me."

Her youngest sister, little Farida, is growing up amidst this turmoil and danger. Please hear them, help them. It means the world."

after the sleeper’s house, aru has nightmares and barely sleeps. the sisters feel it on their mind connection thing, and know they’re powerless to help.

General thoughts: 

There is something so funny to me about putting this hermit who lives alone in the desert on a space station and plopping her in the middle of her worst nightmare: All four of her children in one room :O This is her bad place. But the chapter did turn out nice.

She lives! For another chapter. But I should do the Sasha chapter first. And Metzli, of course... I should probably edit that novella I have lying around too. And write my thesis. And start a religion...

So this obviously isn't a "sentence" necessarily but a line of poetry. It's from my English Lit Book from college. It's technically page 23 once the book actually started (lots of works cited and the acknowledgement page etc).

um so on my dad's side of the family, I swear everyone knows how to play the guitar except for me lol so I don't think I've ever actually done this because I don't know the chords and pretending sounds like Blasphemy...we are religiously artistic...

what is a sound you love and what is a sound you hate?

this is a great question and one I've never actually answered! My answers are super cliche though. I love the sound of the rain... NOT thunder... laugh if you want but I'm actually scared of thunder... The Rain? I LOVE!

A sound I hate (again, cliche)...gum smacking just irks me so bad I'm not even joking just... gross.

do you believe in ghosts? 

i sometimes get the feeling I'm being watched and then I get super anxious and start checking the vents and attic but no I don't actually believe in "ghosts." I believe once you're dead, you're dead.

do you drive? and if so have you ever been in an accident?

I drive and I've gotten a few fender benders but the only car accident I've been told I got into was when I was like 5 and my mom and I got hit by a drunk driver. no one was hurt, thank god, but the guy who hit us swerved and ended up in a ditch.

do you believe in aliens?

yes as weird as it is to believe in aliens but not ghosts, I feel like we have to be super closed minded to believe we are the only life forms in the entire universe that is actually one a small fraction to the number of universes actually out there.

do you like the smell of gasoline?

no. it makes me nauseous and light headed.

do you have an obsession right now? 

um... well I'm currently trying to read like 5 different books lol so I guess that could be one.

1. Have you ever considered killing your protagonist?

Heck yeah. In the beginning of the book, I was originally planning on killing Hypatia off but decided against it in case I actually do a sequel.

Not a fan of sharing my writing for HGAOS online unless it’s for my friends, so no.

Probably gonna remake it since I have a really hard time writing Yamini.

Rosemary used to hate Angel, ooor I erased Birdie’s homosexuality to add a bit more realism into the story. Tough choice, man.

 8. Which of your characters has a really cool skill/hoobie?

First of all whoever wrote this wrote hoobie and tbh mood, second, Hypatia was able to build a ship mostly on her own and if that’s not cool then idk what is.

 9. Has your character ever considered killing someone?

Hypatia has killed someone :)

Person A meets Person B who’s completely different. They develop their identities together throughout the story.
