So, I'm thinking, would Fujitora's power be a foil to Blackbeard's? If he could trap Blackbeard with gravity, would it then nullify the black hole attack that comes with the yami yami no mi? Not an astrophysicist here by any stretch of the imagination!

Imu the Great Darkness

So, now that we've seen the power of Imu, it is very clear by looking back at previous powers in the series, and see how the hidden ruler's powers relates to an Element that One Piece has been pretty sparse utilizing up until now.

The power of Darkness, before this only utilized by Moria and Blackbeard.

The Gorosei ultimately proving themselves to seemingly just be an extension of Imu's power, and their true form being animalistic shapes of shadows makes makes them seem like a more sentient and more advanced version of the way the Kage Kage no Mi allows it's user to make it's own shadow a seperate entitiy.

This connection is further hammered home by the way Imu's shadow self has a very distinctly devil look, similar to Moria's shadow.

Wheter it be the maw...

Or the Devil Tail that is used as a projectile to punch through Cobra.

There is also the way Imu's body seems to have very unique properties, hanging on the throne like a shadow, and yet also distinctly sitting on top of it.

All of this is a deliberate callback to Thriller Bark and Moria's very unique powerset, and presumably the same kind of mechanics.

There is however one more question.

How does Imu's strange shadow powers relate to the Yami Yami no Mi?

In Imu's introduction chapter, we see Imu petulantly rip apart 3 different wanted poster while contemplating a picture of Vivi.

We have the context for 3 of these now. Luffy as the eater of the Gomu Gomu no Mi has become the new Joy Boy, Shirahoshi is the new Poseidon, and Vivi is a descendants of a bloodline that Imu regards as traitors, but isnt quite sure whether or not actually belong to the D Lineage.

But then there is Blackbeard. Why is he here? At first reading it seemed like Blackbeard was lumped together with these because he seemed to deliberately model himself as the new Rocks D. Xebec, but with the reveal of Imu's very distinctly powers over darkness and shadows, it seems more likely that Imu hates Teach because he consumed the power of the Yami Yami no Mi, the power that the World Government has deemed as the most "Evil" of all Devil Fruits.

It could be that this Devil Fruit is to Imu's power what the Mogu Mogu no Mi is to the Mera Mera no Mi, as essentially "Darkness, but better" and thus poses an existential threat to the ruler of the world.

Or maybe as the only devil fruit with the power to cancel out other Devil Fruits completely, Imu is terrified of being put against this fruit.

Regardless, what is more interesting, is that Imu's power does not seem to resemble that of Blackbeard in any way, be it in looks, or the way it affects the world around it.

Hey, remember when Shanks startled Buggy into accidentally eating the Bara Bara no Mi?

Well... Consider an AU where a time-traveling Sabo does exactly that, except he does it with the Yami Yami no Mi —

He's trying to stop Ace from dying but in an extremely convoluted way where he tries to first prevent Thatch from ever getting murdered and Blackbeard from ever getting anywhere near the Yami Yami no Mi by finding and stealing the Devil Fruit himself before the Whitebeard Pirates ever even have the chance to get anywhere near it —

— except someone startles him and he panics and tries to hide it as fast as he can and —

I know there probably isn't any major significance for this, but the visual similarities between the gum-gum fruit and the dark-dark fruit has always fascinated me.

Engaging with fandom as an adult is so strange having grown up on message boards and fanfiction.net and RPG forums 😭 But Dead Boy Detectives has a hold on my brain and won't let go! And actually has me writing fanfiction again for the first time in over a decade!

But it has me thinking, likeeee...I was nine-years-old writing self-insert ATLA stories in between episodes (S1 Zuko ignited my love of villains lol). I was eleven role-playing Yugioh characters with Real Adults with Real Jobs and would be like, "Ah yes, I too understand stress," but I was talking about studying for a social studies test. I was twelve entering fandom shipping one-shot contests voted on by readers (and doing alarmingly well), but I insisted in my author's notes that all the queer ships "could be seen as friends...or maybe something more if you squint" (and then consequently did not realize I was queer for another seven years lol, but that's a different story). I would write grotesque horror tendershipping fics at night and then wake up and go to Catholic school without batting an eye 😅

As funny as it is to look back on now, fandom is also the first place I explored queer relationships through my reading and writing. Enjoltaire fanfiction during college gave me the words I needed when I realized I wasn't straight. It taught me to take (and give!) constructive criticism at a young age. It has always been a safe place for me to learn and explore and enjoy and create, and maybe it's no wonder I've found my way back to it now as a twenty-seven-year-old with a wife and a house and a job and so much more life lived since way back then.

So all that ranting to say -- fandom is really cool, I was a dark preteen, I'm writing Catwin fanfiction as we speak, and maybe other queer adults can relate!

😂Never understood why people underestimated Garp...It wasn't exaggeration when it was mentioned he & Roger almost killed each other a lot of times..Garp gave a head injury off one shot to a guy with high regen [Marco]...Not to mention him low diffing Don chinjao who had great power..In 957 it showed him & Roger destroying the Rock Pirates ....Not sengoku, Kong or any other marine but garp..With his moral code & following his own path to the best of his ability he most definitely has Conquerors Haki..No coincidence his son & grandson has it.Not to mention the son of his rival [Ace ] Having it with Roger most likely as well..I can imagine him at full power like in a full body armament form resembling the hulk physically & power wise...With Rogers & Whitebeard bounty revealed it also helps power scale him & sets the tone on why it was important for sengoku to pin him down in Marineford.

Yara describes herself as a realist. She doesn't see a point in being overly optimistic or overly pessimistic. She's most interested in assessing the most likely outcome of a scenario as well as the standard deviations. She has Future Sight Haki, so that has impacted how she's likely to make decisions in terms of clearing her mind and focusing on possible outcomes of any situation.

Okok, so we know that anybody that Blackbeard steals their powers they have to be dead right? (because he didn't take Ace's power even tho he probably was the one who handed him to the Marines so Ace was in Blackbeard's castudy for some time - he could have taken it any time yet he didn't) so maybe eating live people won't work.

Or that I'll return to the normal theory where Blackbeard's dark-dark fruit can absorb fruits (we see it with ace and now boa)

My questions rn are:

1. How does he pass it to somebody else? Black hole aren't known for getting staff outa them(??)

2. Why dead bodies and not live people?

3. Since the last user of the fruit died, will the fruit rexist even tho there's "dead" version to it?

I have a theory on how Blackbeard got Whitebeard's power:

So in Bigmom's flashback we see that she ate her and all of the kids right? She thinks, they all went away or something but we know that she ate them, and she got from Mama Caramel, so what if Blackbeard ate a little piece of Whitebeard's body or something, and got his power?

It also explains how the rest of his crew got their power; they just ate people, nothing to do with Blackbeard besides info. It does happens a lot that the simplest way is the right one, and it does seem simple but so f*cking rare to gain this info so nobody would notice that

Now (if this is true), we're only left with: how much do you need to eat off of someone to gain their power, is it possible for two people to eat the same guy (don't think so otherwise Blackbeard would have done that)

teach has actively become more evil since consuming the yami yami no mi. whether it's a side effect of his devil fruit or just the result of his rise to power , it's hard to say. but he doesn't feel bad about things the way he used to. the man who wields the most evil power in the world is surely to be the most evil man alive. & though he was always scheming , he didn't used to be so heartless.
