Yamazaki Tomie
Tomie has a new design now!
I'm not talking about her because I'm obsessed with Michiko of the people who think they have the right to take my character and my art and post it somewhere else affirming that's disrespectful having a character named over Tomie Yamazaki :) I hope to not see anything more from those people because I really love Tomie, she's been my first OC for BSD fandom (that is becoming more and more toxic over the years) but anyway!
And now some basic info about her!
Name: Yamakazi Tomie Age: 25 (in my ff), 21 (in canon) Nationality: Japanese Affiliation: Blue Bamboo, Amazzoni Occupation: • librarian (before) • whatever the Amazzoni are (after) Ability: none Likes: books, cats, rainy days Dislikes: Dazai, ignorance Trivia • Tomie's inspired by the real mistress of Dazai sensei; • Tomie and Dazai were ex lovers, they broke up for many reasons, one of them is Dazai being a womaniser • "Blue Bamboo" is the name of a collection of stories written by Dazai sensei
If you're curious feel free to ask me about her!

Pandora's Box
Dark era! Dazai osamu x reader
(The reader has a name and a physical description, but feel free to ignore it as you please. I just have a hard time writing a fic without imagining the reader first. The reader's name is tomie. Takes after Tomie Yamazaki, the lady Dazai sensei committed double suicide with. Of course, it doesn't nod back to the real person, I'm just using the name.)
Word count: 1.5k
Her eyes scanned the bar's atmosphere with an expression coated in aloofness, only to land on the bottomless pit of nothingness that was dazai's sole visible eye.
"Aren't you planning to tell me the occasion, dazai-kun?" She said as she sipped the drink, letting the familiar burn of alcohol bring its comfort.
Dazai merely eyed her, looking half-amused and half-bored. Tomie looked like a doll wearing human's skin, a porcelain doll whose life was sucked away of all colour and vibrancy, as if she belonged among the dead. He had no doubt she's long been this way. But there was a beauty to it, to kiss a dangerous doll crafted by the melancholy of this world.
The Shadow Assassin.
Port Mafia's solo assassin with a dangerous ability suited for killing people in close proximity, using infection. A drop of blood from her delicate finger could infect a blade, and the most shallow cut from it would be fatal. But as soon as the blade got out of her close proximity, it'd lose its infectious capabilities.
He sighed quietly and took another sip of his drink. Then, he spoke:
"The occasion? I'm just drinking away my problems."
"From the “occasion”, I meant the reason you wanted me here."
The response was supposed to have a hint of irony in it, but dazai failed to find any humour in her words.
Dazai tilted his head to side, an amused smirk tugging at the corner of his lips.
"Ah... you caught me."
He muttered while staring off into space, leaning casually against the counter.
"The truth is, that I have something I need to ask you."
It wasn't often he asked her for favours with such downcast expression, she noted mentally. He knew his ways, how to put on an airy flirty smile and play the charmer. She disliked that facade more than anything in the world... But this wasn't anything like that.
"Go on, ask away."
She hummed, tapping her fingers absent-mindedly on the bar's counter.
Restless and relentless, the tapping was, he thought.
He smirked, his gaze never leaving her, but he didn't speak right away. He took a deep breath in and out. His mouth twitching a little as he thinks.
"...can you do me a favour, tomichan?"
She raises a brow, eying him with a gaze full of suspicion. Apparently, she couldn't fathom the reason behind him beating around the bush.
"Just say what you want from me."
Tomie spoke out bluntly, putting her glass down on the counter.
Dazai paused, thinking for a moment. Then he spoke again with a small, bitter smile.
"...I just want you to touch me."
Tomie looks bewildered at his request for a second.
"So... You want another night that goes that way?"
She looked down at her drink, letting out an amused snort.
"Guess I'm in no position to object, huh?" She taunted, trying her best not to throw another snarky remark his way.
The executive glanced down and chuckled humorlessly under his breath.
"Don't pretend like that wasn't a great night for you."
His smirk faded, and he took a sip of his drink before continuing.
"... but I... don't want that right now."
He cleared his throat and set his glass on the counter.
"I want you to try to kill me."
She merely raised a brow.
"Me?"
"Yes, you."
Dazai meets her gaze, his face a mask of eerie calmness.
Disgust and ire swam in her expression, two emotions he rarely saw her display.
"Do it yourself, you must be a professional in that field by now."
She mumbles, her tone laced with irritation.
"It's true, my ability nullifies the power of any other gifted that I touch, but... yours is rather exceptional."
He finished the drink, his fingernail flicking the shot glass.
"See, the remnants of your ability are microscopic. I couldn't nullify it, even if I used my ability on the bloodstain. It'll penetrate deep and infect my bloodstream before the pain even begins! Seems like a fabulous death to me. Just do it, try to kill me."
"Is that an order?" She hissed, her face losing a big portion of the ever-present amusement.
"No, merely a suggestion."
Dazai played with the glass, wearing a bored expression.
"But I know you want to do it. You hate me, don't you? After all, I screwed you over and brought you into this hell that you can't step out of. Don't pretend like you don't want to. I know you want to try. I've seen the disgusted glances you throw at me, I can feel the irk that burns in your heart whenever you talk to me. I've seen how the void in your soul eats away at you. I've seen what you really are. Do it, show me you have the heart to be one of..."
The sound of glass shattering made him pause. It made all the heads of the folks in lupin turn towards them to see what had happened.
Without applying any pressure, the glass shattered in her hand. The broken pieces of glass fell onto her lap, and on the floor, the irritation in her expression grew tenfold.
Dazai's 'No Longer Human' prevented him to have the same fate as the shot-glass in her hand...
What a pity...
That would've been a nice way to die...
"No. If it's not an order, then no. I don't want to be responsible for your pathetic demise."
She spat out bitterly.
"I'm not the type to waste a bullet on something that's already dead."
That was her response to dazai asking her to kill him. He'd apparently forgotten how much the girl could be troublesome sometimes...
Dazai tried to remain unaffected by her words. He grinned slightly and slowly nodded.
"You're right. It doesn't take a genius to see how empty you are."
His demeanour remained composed as he paused, then lifted his eyebrow in a slow, deliberate manner, fixing his gaze on her, the grin lingered.
"... But I also know you don't just want to kill me, you want to devour me. You want to see me suffer... and yet I know you hate yourself more than anything. You have no empathy, you take not a single ounce of joy destroying the people that have wronged you. You're so hollow you can't even bear a grudge. Am I right?"
Dazai's words were the bare truth. Not even one word of his words was misplaced or wrong. But tomie wasn't surprised. She was used to his viscous way of slipping into people's minds. His grasp on the human mind was beyond that of what a normal person would be capable of. But sadly, dazai had no way of guessing what goes on in people's hearts.
"Maybe."
She replied curtly, staring at the remains of shattered glass on her skirt.
"You're no good at living dazai, both of us know that. You were born with something rotten inside you and if people get too close, they'll find out. Or maybe..."
Tomie paused, thinking. Then her bloody red lips curved into a self-satisfied smirk.
"There's no rotten thing. It's just emptiness. Like... you weren't meant to live. But, seeing you lose against life itself is always one big source of entertainment for me."
His face was a blend of amusement, listlessness, and a small bit of something indecipherable.
"... So... The precious doll gets a kick off watching me fail?"
He asked. He wanted to sound sardonic, but it didn't quite come out that way. His voice was strained, like a kid that's trying not to cry. The notion was enough to terrify tomie.
"I do see life as a game that I'm losing badly at."
He sighed quietly and leaned back in his chair, letting a faint smirk come to his lips.
"You are right. I wasn't meant to live."
Tomie was observing him through her now hazy vision that alcohol had caused.
With her chin resting on her palm, she just looked at him. No witty commentary, no more jabs, no more banter, nothing.
And dazai could swear something flashed across her expression. Something he wasn't particularly fond of.
Pity
Tomie was pitying him.
She was looking at him like that again. With pity in those glassy eyes.
She was looking at him in the same manner people look at a wounded dog, wondering what the poor thing had done to deserve such tragedy.
"What can I say? At least your agony amuses me, so it's not completely useless..."
Dazai was silent. Eerily so. The stillness between them was jarring, like the shock of a bucket of ice water that was poured over her head. The noise of other regulars was ever-present, but it only served to unnerve her. His eyes were way too big, way too empty for a boy his age.
"... If my agony happens to amuse you, then why don't you tell me things that are sure to sting? Why don't you aim to make me hate you with those words of yours and say things that will destroy me?"
"Am I not... doing that now?"
Tomie pondered out loud with an arched brow. The tense silence was gone. She was thankful.
The girl gave him a subtle look of curiosity that morphed into a lopsided smirk.
"Why, do you think I can do better?"
Dazai gave her a long, unblinking stare. His mouth curled into a sharp smile, his dark brown eye glistening like a lollipop, as he stared right at her.
"Yes. I feel nothing right now. But I know you have the ability to pierce straight through me."
He paused and then spoke again
"... Just do it. Tell me the one thing that's bound to cut deep. Because I know you've been waiting to use it."
Tomie's lips curve into a drunken smile in response to his words.
"I'm not... gonna give you the satisfaction of hating me. I want to keep you on edge, unaware of how much damage I'm actually capable of."
Her smile was uncanny, 'cause it doesn't quite reach her eyes. Or does it? It was... hard to figure out.
Dazai narrows his eyes as he watches her, staring as if he was trying to see past the facade she puts on the surface. He's no stranger to analyzing a person's expression and body language. He does it subconsciously all the time.
It's not fake. It doesn't appear to be deceitful. Maybe he just isn't used to seeing that on her face.
"... Your smile doesn't reach your eyes... which means you're nervous, or you're lying."
He sounded a bit confused.
"...am I right?"
"Oh, are my deceptive abilities lacking, perhaps? Or are you just growing more and more paranoid?"
She calls over the bartender for another drink, while giving him a false innocent expression.
"Unfortunately, it's the second one. That's just how I smile. I thought you might know it by now."
Dazai's eyes darkened, his left eyebrow twitching, and it was just barely noticeable. He was amazing at masking his emotions, or so he thought he was.
Her drunken smile was... weird. It was weird. He couldn't make sense of it. He couldn't stomach it.
Was it that hard to pick up on a seventeen year old girl's inebriated behavioural patterns? Maybe it was because he was fumbling it.
"We both know I'm not paranoid. I'm just good at recognizing lies."
His eye flickered around her expression, looking at her dead eyes, her amused smirk, her face pale as snow and lips red as cherries as blood flow rushed to them. The words “beautiful porcelain” flashed in his mind.
"You..."
He pauses and then finally speaks.
"...Are you really as numb as I am, tomie-chan?"
She smiles as the bartender hands her the drink.
"Maybe."
Tomie smiles once again as she puts the glass to her lips, her lips staining the glass a pretty red.

Hi I’m glad you’re feeling better. I was wondering if you could write a Dazai x a gender neutral MC where he finds out the reader has depression but also finds out the reader has healthy coping mechanisms and they talk and teach him about it.
Thank you
❤️❤️❤️
"I want a happy ending with you..."
Characters: Osamu Dazai
Warnings: depression, overthinking, insecurities, coping with depression, mentions of reader not eating, gn!reader, mentions of suicide (Dazai's death), maybe bad English?, idk if Dazai will be ooc but just in case, brief mention of panic attacks, it's quite long, ngl;
Notes: hello, Nani~! Thank you so much for worrying~ ♡. I'm happy that you requested, though I must say you caught me by surprise with this request. Personally, as someone who deals with depression, I don't know if I have a coping mechanism for depression? I just try and distract myself from overthinking? (Never ignore your feelings, please. Look for someone willing to hear you) But I'm glad I can talk about this. Also, I'll be speaking from MY experience dealing with depression so I want to be clear that not everyone deals with depression the same way just in case anyone gets confused, ok? Well, I hope I can do this without fucking up. And sorry if it's too long for your liking and uhhh maybe the end is a bit rushed?? Idk, I'm sorry. And sorry for posting this so late!
Osamu Dazai isn't only known for his amazing and shocking books, but also because of his tragic ending. He died by committing suicide with his lover, Tomie Yamazaki, on June 13, 1948. But an opportunity came and Le Comte de Saint-Germain gave him the chance to continue living as a vampire moments before his death... And he accepted.
It is well known that Osamu Dazai battled with depression most of his life, attempting suicide more than once. His decision of living as an immortal is still a mystery.
But he doesn't regret being an immortal being, not now that he met you. You were the most beautiful and extraordinary person in his eyes and nothing could change his mind. You were gorgeous and deserved to be treated like royalty. You were his light.
But he was no fool. Though he always seemed silly and loved to tease, that didn't mean he was a fool, on the contrary. Of all thr guests in the mansion, he was the most observant and attentive to any physical or emotional change in other people. And he knew damn well what you were thinking or feeling.
Depression. You were battling with depression, just like he was.
It all started with the panic attacks you started to have when you arrived at the mansion. I mean, who wouldn't be anxious? You were all alone stuck in another century in a mansion full of men. And if that wasn't scary enough, those men were vampires. You had all the right to be anxious.
He didn't pay much attention to it at first. I mean, he helped you to accommodate in the mansion and was always there to get a smile out of you, but he didn't really think anything else about the panic attacks.
That was until the sudden episodes started.
They started out of nowhere. The night before you could be giggling and dancing with all the guests in the house then the next day in the morning you were oddly quiet. The forced smile on your face when any of the guests were talking, but as soon as they took their eyes off of you, your smile would disappear and you would remain silent again while you stared into space.
When you two started dating, he noticed more about you that just screamed what you were going through. You were always overthinking about the most simple things and were constantly insecure, asking yourself is you were good enough for him or if you could ever make him happy. Then he noticed that you barely slept at night, but always felt sleepy during the day. But what made him step in was when you refused to eat your meal once when you clearly didn't eat all day.
Dazai knew what was going on inside your head and, while he didn't know how to help himself, he wanted to help you because if he helped you he could be better. So he decided to talk to you about it.
"Oh, that..." you whispered, not knowing how to talk about it. "Yes, I'm aware that I did wrong on skipping my meal today... That's why I'm going for a walk."
Anyone else wouldn't have thought anything of what you said, but not Dazai. Dazai felt his chest sink as you said the words "go for a walk." He didn't know if you also had those thoughts and, although he had resorted to double suicide on multiple occasions, he tried to ignore those thoughts and if he dragged you along with him he would lose you forever.
"I'll go with you." he offered, hiding his fear in a smile. "How impolite of me it would be to let you walk alone at this time of the afternoon, don't you think?"
You stayed a few long seconds in silence, contemplating if nothing would happen if he went with you. In the end you agreed to his offer with the thought in mind that maybe, just maybe, this walk could help him too.
"But eat something first." he ordered, his tone still soft and gentle. "I won't let you leave until you eat something."
Although little, you were able to eat the delicious dinner that you had helped Sebastian make. You ate quickly because you wanted to go out and clear your mind. You didn't want to, you had to.
"Can we please go to a walk now?" you pleaded and Dazai had no choice but to go out with you. Using the door, of course. Through the window it was going to be difficult for you.
Dusk came and the sky was painted a set of orange and purple colors. The atmosphere was perfect for a date like those you two used to have from time to time, but today was going to be an exception.
You both walked in silence without any exact destination. Dazai expected you to say something to him, but you only admired the beautiful surroundings. What distracted you was a quiet and lonely children's park. You looked at Dazai, and without waiting for an answer, you walked over to the swings and began to swing.
"Come sit with me." you called out to him while smiling softly.
He quickly sits on the swing next to you and rocks with you. You both enjoy the relaxing atmosphere, the afternoon breeze, and the soft laughter that you both let out. For a moment, you both forgot the real reason you had come out. You felt happy to be able to enjoy this moment with him, even though you knew that this joy would vanish for the moment, but you didn't care. At this precise moment, you didn't care because you knew that the reason for your happiness was Dazai.
But... You stopped. You stopped because even though you were happy with him, you had to talk to him. You continued to rock, but your laughter stopped.
"Dazai, love." you called, causing him to stop.
"Yes?" he answered.
"You know... I know that you better than anyone can understand what's happening to me. These sudden mood swings and so on..."
Dazai stopped swinging on the swing and looked at you. He didn't know what to answer you, although what you said was true: Dazai could understand you better than anyone.
"Sometimes I go out to distract myself." you continued talking. "I'm always looking for something to distract myself and try not to get consumed by it. I'm trying, I swear."
That piqued his curiosity. Distract you? Did that work? He personally never knew how to deal with his depression, since he lived in other times, but he was interested in knowing how you managed to deal with it.
"What things do you do to distract yourself?" Dazai asked interested.
"Oh! Well... I sometimes sneak to hear Mozart playing, which relaxes me." you started to explain a little embarrassed. "Or I bake too. Sometimes sleeping helps."
"That's... I didn't know there were ways to help deal with this." Dazai admitted, fascinated. "So you do things you like to distract and relax yourself?"
"That's correct." you gave him a small smile.
"I see... Can I try something like that too?" Dazai asked.
"Of course! Just look for things that can relax you." you recommended.
"Writing works... And spending time with you."
You blushed when you heard what he said and lowered your head, smiling.
He loved you. You both loved each other. You might have your problems, but you loved each other deeply. Your wish, his wish, the wish of both of you was to overcome whatever life threw at you and be together... For eternity.

I'm not really back but I found myself with some free time so why not? Here's Michiko and Tomie! I'm sure you've noticed some changes in their appearance, but that's not the only thing that changed; I've officially changed Mary's name (for many reasons) so now she's entirely inspired by Michiko Ishihara. I will not brag about it and just leave these three pictures here :) hope you like it! P.s. the fourth picture is Michiko Beast version.

Prologue III | La Petite Mort
»»---- Prologue III ----««
»»---- ----««
It had been silent in the Agency ever since the white van that belonged to the Special Powers Division had dropped off Yamazaki Tomie's body per President Fukuzawa's request.
Atsushi and Tanizaki helped bring in the body and needless to say, it wasn't a pleasant experience for them. For Atsushi mostly, who had the unfortunate experience of wiping the blood that dripped on the floor along the way.
The air in the atmosphere was heavy as no one dared to speak in Shuji's presence, who recently lost his mother in a failed attempt of a double suicide. Well, a partially successful attempt.
However, what stunned the Agency members to silence was how Shuji was faring in this situation. He looked too... carefree about it.
Atsushi looked at the masked boy with widened eyes, looking as stunned as he could be, a bead of sweat dripping down his face.
If anyone had leaned close enough to Shuji, they would've heard him sing Dazai's infamous suicide song under his breath.
Naomi and Tanizaki stiffly sat on the couch, Yosano was with the President in his office, Kunikida was doing his work with an unreadable expression on his face, and Kyoko was standing on Ranpo's side (who just arrived) observing the young male from afar.
"Are you not bothered by your mother's death, Shuji-kun?" Ranpo decided to speak with that lame tone that he always has, grabbing a chip from the bag that was opened on his desk.
Atsushi looked at Ranpo whose expression was amused. It looked wrong in many ways with the situation they were in right now.
The weretiger may not have known Ranpo well, but he knew well enough that the detective was very blunt in almost everything. He learned that aspect of his from the mission he got sent on with him and with a tag-a-long Dazai.
"Not really." The boy simply said, pushing his hair back with his ringed fingers.
Shuji sighed as he looked at Ranpo grinning, who looked like he was having quite a show in his life.
"Why are you so interested anyway?" The tone that Shuji delivered came out as rude to the others. Shuji grimaced at his way of speaking, he didn't mean it that way.
Kunikida looked repulsed and was about to speak before Ranpo cut him off, "Oh no, it's just that you look as if you're used to it already." The detective replied, grabbing a new lollipop and plopping it in his mouth.
"You think so?" Shuji drawled as he leaned back against the couch and stared at the ceiling.
Ranpo jovially nodded, who apparently couldn't read the tense air. Atsushi had to restrain himself so hard not to bash his head against his table on how their conversation was literally beyond basic human rationality.
"Well," The teenager stood up almost lazily, hands in his blazer that belonged to a school that he definitely won't return to, "I'm sure you've figured it out already. You're quite the detective, after all."
Ranpo's ego responded to him, "Of course, I'm the best after all!"
Shuji had to refrain from snorting at his words.
"However,"
"I actually don't know much yet!" Ranpo exclaimed in the same tone.
His words made everyone surprised. Edogawa Ranpo, the Agency's greatest detective who is famous for solving cases with a bat of an eye, is having trouble with a dead person.
Shuji raised a brow, "Why're you so interested anyway? My mother's dead."
Atsushi had to gulp down his nervousness. The tension only increased when Shuji spoke so bluntly with a devious smirk painted on his lips.
Kunikida's eyes darkened ever so slightly, "Have you had no respect for your mother, boy? Your mother died to suicide, have you got no heart?!" The man in glasses yelled at the boy, clearly having enough of the banter.
The teenagers present in the room apart from Shuji flinched at his volume.
"Well, that's the thing," Ranpo quipped which made everyone's heads turn in his direction, "Is she actually dead?"
Everyone widened their eyes when they heard Shuji laughing boisterously, clutching his stomach as he wheezed.
"You're amazing, Ranpo-san! For a non-ability user too!" Shuji said in between his laughs.
"So she's not dead then." Ranpo hummed, looking at Shuji who practically gave him the answer and was busy laughing.
Atsushi interjected and looked pale in the face, "But I saw her dead-"
"She's not dead." Shuji promptly cut the white-haired boy off. "To put it more simply, she can't die."
All of them collectively had the same expression again.
"What do you mean, Yamazaki-san?" Izumi spoke up for the first time in a while.
"We can't exactly come back alive after-" Izumi grimaced before putting it lightly, "passing away in that manner."
Shuji shook his head, "I've seen her commit suicide and none were actually successful as you could see her alive and well just two days ago."
"An ability like Dazai's definitely spurred her on then," Ranpo replied, a hand to his chin as the cogs in his mind slowly worked on figuring out what kind of abomination Yamazaki Tomie was.
"No Longer Human or something like that." Shuji hummed and sighed heavily at the trouble his mother brought him.
"Does that mean Yamazaki-san is incapable of dying because of her ability?" Kunikida thought out loud.
"Well, I guess you could say that." The son didn't explain further.
"Her heart has stopped working!" Atsushi blurted out without thinking, "I couldn't feel her pulse nor did I feel any warmth from her!"
The tiger inside of him shuddered when Atsushi felt Shuji eyeing at him at the side that eerily felt like Dazai's.
"La Petite Mort," The familiar voice of the President of the Armed Detective Agency mused, coming out of Yosano's office. "French for Little Death."
"Not much is known about her ability apart from the fact it practically makes her immortal." Fukuzawa swiftly continued, "her prowess as an immortal one-man army is the reason I recruited her after all."
"We're strong enough on our own, President, sir." Ranpo politely said, "We don't need them."
Shuji rolled his eyes at how much a daddy's boy he is.
"My mother volunteered after her contract with her other client was done." Shuji replied to Ranpo, whose eyes were surprisingly open, "Fukuzawa-san's choice to deny her help wasn't an option either."
"She's more than just a one-man army, you little old man, so don't just go insulting her." Shuji sneered at the detective to which the Tanizaki siblings, who were listening to the entire time, tried to stifle their laughter.
Ranpo was too stunned to speak. No one had spoken to Ranpo that way.
Fukuzawa ignored what Shuji had to say about Ranpo, "How long until she wakes up?" he asked the masked boy.
Shuji stretched his arms as he replied, "Maybe about two minutes tops,"
"We should probably go now though. That doctor of yours would probably scare herself shitless when a dead body suddenly starts standing up like that." Shuji smirked at the thought but the unmoving Fukuzawa in front of him made him stop.
Shuji raised a brow, "What?"
The tall man gave him a grunt and a disappointed look. Shuji looked perplexed but soon realized the reason with a dry laugh.
He rubbed the back of his neck awkwardly and gruffly muttered something under his breath that couldn't be heard.
"Hah?" Ranpo asked quite rudely, clearly having enough of this teenager.
Izumi clearly saw Shuji pop a vein, his hand twitching for a fight before looking at Ranpo with a grimace, "I'm very sorry for the very disagreeable behavior I have displayed. Please find it in your heart to forgive me, O great detective of Tokyo- no- Japan has ever had."
Naomi's jaw dropped. The teen could've just acted but with that forced tone and perhaps the most painful-looking grimace Naomi has ever seen, it barely sounds sincere at all.
"Well~ I guess I could forgive you, hehe~!"
The others watching only sighed at Ranpo's response, knowing how gullible he is when it comes to praise.
Shuji clicked his tongue before begrudgingly going ahead to the infirmary where his mother's body was located, followed by Fukuzawa.
"If you really wanna confirm it yourself, detective, you can come with us if you wanna see her wake up." Shuji blandly said, clearly wanting to get this thing over with.
Immediately, the other occupants in the room stood up to see the core of the problem that started with a mystery- the Yamazaki.
"This is a mess—" Tanizaki whispered, obviously done with this situation, leaning against his little sister.
"Right...?" Atsushi sighed, thinking about what just happened in the past two days.
Two random people coincidentally staying at the same cafe just below the agency. One of their coworkers, famous for being suicidal and actively looking for a suicide partner, managed to find a said partner who is one of those two random people, who is also coincidentally suicidal. Those two ran off to the sunset while leaving the other person to sulk by himself. And then those two people who walked off into the sunset went to commit suicide in the most cliche way possible- only to realize that only one of them 'died'.
"That was a mouthful, Atsushi-kun."
Atsushi had momentarily forgotten about Miyazawa Kenji's reappearance from a two-day investigation.
"I mean I get the gist of it now," Kenji mused, "Where's Dazai-san at right now?"
"In prison," Naomi replied for Atsushi, who was about to speak up.
"If it turns out she's actually alive and well, maybe she can actually get Dazai-san out of jail, hopefully." Tanizaki dryly laughed to ease the tension, it didn't help at all.
"I'm hoping it was that easy," Atsushi mumbled as he watched the president open the door to the infirmary as the Agency was greeted with a horrid sight.
"The whole pack is here," Yosano lamely said, unaware of the bloody blanket that was just behind her slowly sit up straight.
The bloodied blanket fell down and showed quite the sight that sent everyone cold.
Naomi, Tanizaki, Izumi, Ranpo, and Atsushi paled at Yamazaki Tomie's bruised, bloodied, and broken body hastily fixing themselves. Her white eyes stare into the depths of their souls and gave them a toothy grin.
"What's the matter with you lot?" Yosano raised a brow at their foolishness with Ranpo having the courage to shakily point at the mending body behind her.
"... Am I dead?" Tomie's hoarse voice whispered behind Yosano.
Yosano felt a shiver go down her spine when she felt cold air brushing against her ear and hastily moved away from the body in fright.
Shuji was pleasantly surprised about their breaking character.
"I'm dead!" Tomie drunkenly chuckled, looking at her unfamiliar surroundings, unaware of her whole body being fixed with every fiber of her muscles reworking her body again.
She was clearly drunk off the bliss that she might actually be dead.
"Bold of you to assume you're actually dead." Shuji laughed at his mother's words. It was the first time she actually saw her this delusional.
A wide-eyed stare came from Tomie, "Shuji...?"
No, no, no, no—!
Tomie's face twisted in realization as she paled. She frantically looked at her hands, arms, chest, and anything that can prove that she finally died. The growing pit of disappointment only supported how much she sucked at dying.
'How pathetic, Tomie.'
"Good morning, Tomie."
The sound of Fukuzawa's voice made her turn her head and locked eyes with Fukuzawa.
.
.
.
Her nose scrunched up at the sight of Fukuzawa in disgust and let out the most exaggerated gag she could muster.

No Longer Human(1948)
人間失格 / Ningen Shikkaku / No Longer Human was the last complete work produced in 1948 by Osamu Dazai before his before his double suicide with his wife, Tomie Yamazaki. No Longer Human is a semi-autobiographical masterpiece of Osamu Dazai’s (born Shūji Tsushima) life, it is not a complete autobiography due to it starring fictional characters but the events mirror the man's life in broad strokes. The story depicts the misfortunate life of Oba Yozo and shows his journey of growing up in a world he does not understand, Meiji’s era Japan. Oba is convinced he is living in hell, not due to any material hardships as he is born into a wealthy family who all live together in a mansion, but due to his fear of humans. He holds no understanding of other people and dreads making people unhappy, so begins his “clowning”. Describing himself as a "mischievous Imp” Oba takes on this persona of an uncaring clumsy buffoon who couldn’t have a care in the world, whose foolish blunders make others cheer in delight as they witness such comedy. Of course in reality Oba cares what others think about him more than anyone, he studies hard to get good grades to impress his classmates and satiate his father, he is constantly pulling gags and finding new ways to make people laugh, picking up a knack for manga in his early years. His scheme is flawlessly letting him hide all his vulnerability from the world until, later in his schooling he meets a boy by the name of Takeichi, who is able to peer past the veil of which Oba had harnessed, this terrifies Oba more than anything. He befriends Takeichi to keep his lips sealed and with the time they spend together Takeichi sparks Oba’s desire to be a painter, as he describes Obas self portrait as “a Painting of a Ghost”. Over the next coming years Oba would lose interest in his studies and try to pursue art school, where he meets Horiki. Horiki would serve as a poor influence in Obas life. Obas fear of people only grows with his age, he turns to many dissociative pleasures to cope, mainly heavy drinking and affairs with women, which come easy to him as he believes they are easy to fall for him because they are attracted to his disturbed loneliness. Even though he has had many negative experiences with sex, as he was sexually assaulted by multiple servants of his family’s mansion in his youth, he still engages in it, as an escape from people but also sometimes due to his fear of displeasing the women who fall for him. After many failed attempts at a normal life, with countless women, multiple suicide attempts and a dependency on Alcohol and morphine, Oba is institutionalized. He leaves an empty shell, now completely numb to the pleasures and hardships of the world. He lives the rest of his days in complete isolation, from the world, people and emotions. He feels nothing. He failed at living and thus, he is No Longer Human. “Good-Bye” would be the only other piece of fiction written before Osamu Dazai and his wife drowned together in the same year No Longer Human was finished. “Good-bye” remains unfinished. Osamu was a very prolific writer of his time and No Longer Human is his final masterpiece, being highly praised in Japan and receiving an English translation in 1959. Though it is written in a specific time period and place, they remain background elements to core themes of the story, it is a brilliant commentary and reflection on the intricacies of the human condition and will remain a timeless classic because the experience it describes will be lived again in one form or another. Osamu was clearly suffering from mental illness, like Oba, he had already tried to end his life several times before writing this, we are very lucky to have this window into the head of someone so disturbed.
I was first introduced to No Longer Human through its Manga adaptation by Junji Ito, a horror mangaka whose work I collect, and is by far my favorite book he has published, he does a brilliant job of showing the world through Oba’s warped mind, showcasing how peoples emotions can seep through every pore of their face and being, turning them into terrifying, animalist creatures. This book absolutely floored me on my first read and made me very emotional. Oba represents the spirit of humanity being torn to shreds and patchworked back together to exist as an empty husk, it’s an extreme that I believe anyone can see a piece of themselves in, as to show what it means to be disqualified as human, the book subsequently first undergoes an exploration into what it means to be human. It’s a story which promotes philosophical analysis and begs the reader to self-reflect on their life and the purpose of their wants and desires.

One of these poesy lives, I shall run out of word. But never the incessant reverie of a lovebird. Writing is rather a shush to the sparse thoughts of my very existence, than it is to convey out loud on paper, through concerning consistence, whatnot I live, bearing of you. I scrawl away like a little girl in love, but when pen reaches its destination, paper folds away in ration, the forlorn-ignorant adolescent knows inevitably it is true; that I am to never find you. You of whom I have never glimpsed, never known, never evinced. Yet, you I so desperately muse of, delude the greatest deity of love, the illicitly enchanting creation of God, you bring all men to an insecure doubt of fraud. I do not know you yet I do know. I savvy the sweet sounds of your laughter, the wrinkled corners of your lips I frail after, I know what it is like to grow old with you, to explore young with you. Yet I shall never know who it is you. Of you I want and need. Of you I pray to one day meet.
