I gotta know more about Kingsley

Anything that might not have been talked about thru asks or general lore you wanna let folks know?

I don't think I've ever properly talked about him, his lore, and his motivations openly here. So strap in; this is gonna be a doozy.

And for y'all's sakes... I'll limit this to only containing lore from during his time at NRC. I can share post-NRC stuff another time.

Kingsley is a Horned King expy from the Chronciles of Prydain (the source material from which Disney's the Black Cauldron was made). As a result, many of his physical attributes, his personality, his story, and his relationships twist from the book series beyond the Disney film. There are very clear influences from the film as well, but I felt it would be far more striking and interesting if he drew from the original source material moreso than the film.

Kingsley is the crown prince of a fan-made location known as the Isle of Cantrevs - twisted from the Cantrevs in the Chronicles of Prydain. Due to his issues with anger management, his views on authority, and other additional traits, his parents - despite raising him to BE this way and culturally raising him to have certain beliefs - were unsatisfied and didn't approve of him as their son, let alone as the rightful heir to the throne. They opted to use sending him to NRC as a chance for him to prove himself, while also using it as an opportunity for them to literally get him off their hands. Naturally, he accepts the deal, but Kingsley feels the weight of the pressure to become the man his father wants him to be.

As he starts freshman year, he is sorted into Diasomnia, not SavannaClaw. Despite the aggressive and intimidating way he holds himself, he does maintain a militant, commanding presence and a subtle, noble aura. He is sorted into Diasomnia because of both who he will grow to become, and also because nobility and magical prowess are his most prominent attribute. And yet, to most, this shocks them. Because those who do not know how Kingsley is beyond his aggression assume he is best suited in SavannaClaw.

What's worse, the political tension and the personality clashing with the other canon characters of Diasomnia leads to many many conflicts, near death duels, and the immediate social isolation of one Kingsley Tyr. Because why did this human who prefers to fight with his fists and axes over his magic get sorted into Diasomnia? He doesn't belong here. We don't want him here.

In truth, despite how long it takes him to develop his UM, Kingsley is an incredibly strong mage, both physically and in the arcane. But he tries not to show off all of his cards. He tries to keep his secrets hidden in hopes to retain an upper hand.

He is diligent and vigilant, reserved unless he chooses to strike or intimidate or initiate. He keeps largely to himself, only choosing to create allyships when he knows its mutually beneficial, but does not hold himself like a normal student. He doesnt start out having friends. Instead, he dedicates all of his free time to trying to find the location of the Black Cauldron, or if not, the method of which it was created in order to obtain either the original or to create a new one. Because perhaps if he were to raise an army of the undead, his father would be impressed and acknowledge him for his skills and assets.

But in his isolation, blot and darkness are stewing. Truthfully, he should have Overblotted. Then why did he not?

Jack Howl. A few months into schooling, Jack decides he wants to see if the rumors are true, that there is nothing else besides lethal rage behind those skull hidden eyes. And what Jack finds instead is a young man hiding his numbness. His loneliness. He finds a young man who has never experienced a friendship and doesnt know how to connect with people beyond political allegiance. He meets a dedicated student, a young man built with an unwaverable loyalty, an a cunning strategist who is far from perfect, especially in his social skills. He sees a flicker of hope. A flicker of humor. A three dimensional human being. And from that flicker of life in Kingsley's eyes, Jack decides he's gonna see to it that Kingsley proves them all wrong. So Jack keeps hanging around him, until eventually Kingsley concedes and slowly begins to open up. And from that, he makes his first friend. You can read their first interaction here.

He often finds reprieve in SavannaClaw after this. He fights to earn his welcome and catches Leona's eye. Leona sees something akin in him and tolerates his presence in his dorm, so long as Kingsley doesnt become a problem. And when he starts to do so, their talk happens (which you can read here). But Kingsley TAKES the instruction, and ends up inadvertently proving both Leona and Jack right about what else is hidden behind the skull.

From there, we see allyships and friendships built between @thehollowwriter 's Finn, @ramshacklerumble 's Gia (who becomes his partner in crime and eventual QPP), and @cyanide-latte 's Copper (who becomes one of his most cherished and valued brothers).

We also see a game between hunters, as Kingsley and Rook wordlessly initiate a game between the two of them, which can be seen in a vignette here. The first one to land a lethal hit wins. And it's entirely on sight, regardless of the circumstances. Yet... after enough time passes, rumors begin to spread that they both are intentionally missing. Who is to say? But what we do know, flash forward, is that the King Takes Rook, and right before the graduation ceremony during Rook's senior year, Kingsley catches him off guard for ONCE, and calls checkmate with an axe blade to Rook's throat. Despite the two of them almost never talk, they end up maintaining their connection with one another, and Rook remains an invaluable presence in Kingsley's life - one who will guide him in his years post-NRC.

We also see a profound rivalry between Sebek and Kingsley. Sebek cannot understand for the life of him WHY Kingsley is allowed to grace the same steps and dorm as one Malleus Draconia. This human disgraces everything that they stand for, and has done nothing but cause problems for Malleus - who for the record doesnt give a fuck about Kingsley in any capacity. You can see one instance of them fighting here. And we will touch more on this later, but keep it in mind.

There isn't a lot that has been thoroughly hammered out in terms of specific details. But dynamics have been considered and there are specific key moments that have been fleshed out.

There are a few things I have hammered out, like his direct involvement in Book 4, as well as one instance of dream walking that Silver experiences- which can be read here. Otherwise, there are a ton of empty gaps.

During sophomore year, while predominantly nebulous at this point, is where I imagine a big turning point happens, where we really see him growing. He starts to question his dynamic with his parents. He starts to question their expectations of him, and whether or not their vision of their political dynamics and rulership is beneficial both for their foriegn affairs, and for their country. But moreover, he begins to question if he even wants to take the throne after his father. He questions if thats a life he really wants to have. In social isolation. Under immense stress. Is he even cut out to be king? Is he a fit worth selecting?

I do also Headcanon that he becomes Housewarden after Malleus heads off for his internship - you know... making bold assumptions here since Book 7 isnt finished. But I imagine he is challenged regularly, and wins- often without use of magic.

Just as he is beginning to sort out his feelings, his parents summon him in the summer between sophomore and junior year for what I refer to as the "Cantrevs Event". He has been summoned to clean up his parents mess and find a magical artifact that was stolen from them while they are busy dealing with conflicts between the Cantrevs and Briar Valley. He is asked to select a team of qualified assitants to come to the Cantrevs and retrieve the artifact, and prove that he actually has what it takes to be a leader. He chooses his friends and mutual acquaintances who have specific skill sets in order to help him on their quest. During this time, his UM awakens, and he really starts to realize his true potential. This is something I hope to write out as a long form fic one day.

In junior year, he finally earns Sebek's respect. And when Kingsley clocks the change in Sebek's demeanor toward him, he does actually offer Sebek the opportunity at becoming Vice-Housewarden. This is no small gesture, and it significantly changes their dynamic moving forward. This can be read here.

Beyond this, again, things are still really nebulous and I haven't fleshed them out. I also haven't fully figured out where exactly he interns at for his senior year, but Im excited at the prospect at exploring these things. And furthermore, all the empty space for me feels like opportunities to explore other things and to explore OC to OC interactions, where other folks may be interested.

The Big Bad Lore Discussion: JESUS

Justttt gonna step over the landmine that is the current situation of this tag, as today I'd like to discuss an important lore point in the game:

JESUS CHRIST HIMSELF.

I made a short little post asking about it, but the more I really thought about it, the more I realize how deep the rabbit hole goes. Jesus' existence itself is already an enigma, but it's even moreso in whb???

Let's discuss, and for context, was forced to take Salvation History and Creed in college, hold on tight, this is gonna be a yap session

The Plotholes

Several issues immediately arise because of the fact that...well, God disappeared shortly after Solomon.

Why is this a problem? Because Solomon is approximately 900 years before Christ, now I know the timeline is all screwed up as well in whb, but if I'm assuming the bible canon, then, none of the things past Solomon had happened, including the birth of Jesus.

This conflicts with the fact that Minhyeok briefly mentions his neighbor, who is a Christian, and the fact that Christmas exists. Meaning some form of Jesus DOES exist, but just in the written scripture.

Why is that?? Well I have several theories:

1. Jesus already exists

Not LITERALLY. Without God there then how was the miraculous conception was supposed to happen, but since Jesus is considered the Word of God, and the Word of God has existed ever since the creation of the world ("On the First day, God SAID let there be light"), and with those first words uttered, Jesus was made manifest in it. He just isn't able to manifest physically due to a lack of God.

2. Jesus is some form of copesona or propaganda of the angels

We know that, at least according to Ppyong, that the scriptures are apparently propaganda made by the angels to make devils look bad, if that's so, to what extent? I'll assume it's somewhat minimal, they just want to make the devils look bad, because in general, Solomon is painted in a pretty good light, which is uncharacteristic of them. But how do they come up with someone like Jesus? It seems strange of them

The answer: Gabriel

Since Gabriel is the one that announces the birth of Jesus, it's likely he knows that Jesus already existed, and was expected to be born, but with God's disappearance, Gabriel, the unhinged, likely more unhinged, probably started making up stories about the Son of God that was never to be.

3. Jesus the person, existed, but he was just an ordinary mortal

We already believe the Jesus Christ, or more specifically, Yehosua Messiah (original Hebrew name) existed historically, it's likely this is the case as well. He was probably mythologized with the inception of the new testament, it's not the first time this has happened (Gilgamesh the king became the legend he is with the Epic of Gilgamesh)

Why Jesus likely doesn't exist

1. Usually, people are normally referred to as Son/Daughters of God, but in Lucifer's selfie story, he doesn't call us that (calls us Son of Adam/Daughter of Eve), meaning the original sin that those two committed have not been cleansed. (Jesus' death would have cleansed everyone of it)

2. In the Gamigin Event, Lucifer is said to be second only to God, which is odd, that's Jesus' spot. ("he is seated at the Right Hand of the Father, he will come again to judge the living and the dead")

3. It's a bit iffy, but the Christmas Event was also termed 'X-mas', which usually excludes the celebration of the birth of Jesus.

4. Since Jesus is the Son of God, he would have inherited the throne of God as well, and it's likely he would stop the ongoing genocide of the devils

IN CONCLUSION:

It's likely that Jesus was something meant to exist, but with the disappearance of God, that never truly happened.

But these are my thoughts. If y'all managed to make it this far, then I thank you for listening. If this gets enough views, I'll probably make more (such as the Solomon and Lilith conundrum)

I believe Cheating Men must die is a great story

It adds wonderful twists in existing tropes and genres. The protag isn't perfect but she's great, she likes eliminating assholes, which is valid

It's also interesting how Su Luxia doesn't have an identity issue since she lives under so many identities but I guess she's hardened for the job

For everyone who hasn't read Cheating Men Must Die (comic "Wan Zha Chao Huang" (万渣朝凰) by Shi Dai Man Wang (时代漫王)), this is an open invitation for y'all to read it. Genre: quick transmigration, revenge story. Basically your ex-cannon fodder MC, Su Luxia, is a System agent who transmigrates (isekais/ world hops) into the bodies of women of each world who are wronged by the Male Lead, Female Lead, another canon fodder, author, etc and changes their fate. I forgot how many chapters of the manhua there are presently but I believe the freshest ones that are still being updated in Mandarin Chinese are over 700+ chapters of art. (The MTL offers English translation, but y'all can also peep at other sites for ENG fantranslations.)

There are a couple of different summaries but I love this summary the best:

Don't you think that all cheating sc*m need to die? Su Luxia, an intern pro working in a transmigration agency, doesn't believe in that. For her, all cheating bastards need to rot in hell before they die. Or else they won't suffer the taste of their own medicine! Using elaborate means, she beats up countless cheating bastards and b*tches. Su Luxia sneers... "People take everything they get for granted. The more they get, the more they don't strive for it. An unrequited love is an example. There is always a sc*m who takes advantage. Since they brought this upon themselves..." She studies her face in the mirror and smirks, "... let them have a taste of their own medicine." System: "You're making that scary face again!" Follow our female main lead, Su Lüxia, who is bound to the Female Lead Counterattack System and transmigrates to several small worlds beating up countless sc*m.

Art bait for y'all who are still hesitating (and some of my favorite arcs, and those that'd surprised me like the arc where she transmigrated into the Second Male Lead):

RE: I have to agree! Ty for the Ask, @bernkastel11! I had a response ready for ya the day I saw this in my inbox and literally typed a long essay with links, but lo and behold tumblr ate it. 😭 But finally I have the motivation for a take 2. Honestly the manhua is a guilty pleasure of mine. The art's great (we definitely see the artist improve over time with each arc...even with the obviously borrowed assets and sometimes janky perspective, hahaha) and I love how Su Luxia is a badass femme fatale (white lotus & green tea b*tch), as well as her friendship with her cute talking hamster System. I also love how the artist is giving variety; it's not all just kicking butt, chewing bubble gum, finding romance. She's become an empress, made a friendship with the exorcist Female Lead, become a mother, led revolutions, survived a death game, became a guy, made a Male Lead yandere and obsess over her to the point of trying to hunt her down in whichever world it is, has some...questionable sapphic overtones, transmigrated into a BL novel, revisited some worlds with reoccurring characters, etc. They satirize a lot of preexisting tropes, and I love it when artists and writers have fun with the meta. I also like how they're slowly expanding on the lore of her interest with previous System agent Zero (the whole reason why Su Luxia became a System agent).

The thing about QTs in general is the artist or author usually don't put much emphasis on the consequences of transmigrating so many times into other people's bodies. It's just a staple of the genre (because they're usually portrayed as badass, cunning, and OP, what have you with a strong willpower to assume all these identities, overcome challenges, and not experience dysphoria). So far I think the only writer I can think of off the top of my head that addresses it is: The Exhausting Reality of Novel Transmigration (novel / manhwa). I highly rec it. So far it is one of the few works where they explore that concept of how mentally exhausting it is adopting another person's identity as well as the consequences of "the characters" finding out (it's not your usual "oh, you hopped into my dead daughter's body and assumed her identity? Well la de dah, guess you're my daughter now." No, we're talking about the mother suspecting, finding out, being horrified, and having a mental breakdown trying to exorcise "the evil spirit" who's taken possession of her daughter's body). It also touches on the danger of an ordinary woman transmigrating into the body of a Female Lead in an R18+ novel where the Male Lead is a yandere.

What's the twiddlefinger mod?

oh man. time to look like a nerd (i'm also clueless af this is just what hyperfixating on this mod for two days does to you)

twiddlefinger is a fnf mod. i'm sure we all know what fnf is atp.. we're gonna ignore that tho. i'd probably recommend looking at this video first (link leads to youtube video), mostly cuz i think jumping into it without knowing wtf is going on adds to the humor of it all. i'm gonna explain more about the mod events surrounding it that i could uncover cuz tbh the absurdity of some of this stuff just NEEDS to be mentioned. so you can watch the video before or after the ramble tbh

okay so if you're like me you went wtf is this mod and why does the song kinda slap tho.. so here's the basics that i've found while trying to find info, as someone that lives under a rock

-the characters and everything are based on a youtube channel called max design pro, which is known for using the uhm.. gegagedigedagedago chicken nugget meme??? in their videos.. basically a content farm channel generating likes by making kids think their lives can help the characters in the videos. that's where the help = like mechanic in the mod came from

-the main character, max, is a monkey. i'm apparently one of few people that could tell immediately? i think i'm insane

-okay so this one's a doozy. this is part of a trend in fnf mods going on now where people make one-off mods based on typically children horror content with lyrical parts in the middle of the songs, and where the devs are hidden in anonymity. this was apparently started by endless aethos, a fnf mod based on.. supermariologan? analog horror shit?? trust me i'm WAY more clueless about that one. apparently the main dev used a one-off account but the mod got cancelled once people found out they were a controversial dev, so it's kinda becoming a joke now.

-the lore is there is no lore. i can't find it. the devs said they're gonna make a qna but from what i can tell it's not made yet, all i know is the mod is a love story, max was corrupted with SOMETHING.. cuz in the good ending he does revert back to normal once you save him. idk tho. also in the bad ending he accidentally kills nugget. oops..

-the animation in the lyrical part used to be a FAN ANIMATION?? i just gotta show that off cuz i'm like. obsessed with the art. the animation is so good and apparently the devs thought so too cuz they brought the dude in to make the animation in here..

-now for the crazy part. max design pro saw the mod. they first made minor references in a couple of animations but now more elements are showing up. max from this mod shows up in the animations now. the good ending of this mod is legit CANON to the channel it was based on now. they straight up made a fnf mod canon to their content farm channel i am not joking

-and before you ask "wait do they know the mod is lowkey shipping their characters-" they absolutely do. they referenced the ship art in their video. they fucking KNOW GUYS. i don't think y'all know how insane it is for a content farm channel to not only be aware of the content their fans are making but MAKE IT CANON IN THEIR VIDEOS.. LIKE WTF IS GOING ON

My Insanity:

I am a mildly functioning adult in my late 20s. I am a Taurus that loves long walks to the fridge. I am aroace (romance positive/sex adverse) poly, lesbian (for a lack of a better term), and non-binary. I use all pronouns, but most people use she/her.

Now in canon lore, you confessed while Crimson was having a breakdown

Now outside of canon lore, you still would have had to confess, Crimson was never going to take the initiative

You both didn't start calling yourself a 'couple' until humans started pointing out that y'all kinda look like you love each other

Obviously you couldn't do much being in Sun Cult territory, but as a way to 'make up' for a poor confession you asked Crimson to go out for a walk and just enjoy each others company

You did this because there was the assumption that it would take his mind off of being the leader for once, to let him relax and just be Crimson

He appreciated this, it was actually a much needed break and did help Crimson clear his mind, even get back to work with more vigor

As a thank you, Crimson returned a confession by getting you a fight with one of the Dragon Scourges, other than Ragna or himself, of course (you won btw)

Love language wise, as I said before Crimson's are acts of service and words of affirmation, so very often are you helping him regulate Slime and Ragna or complimenting his genius

In return, he is praising your strength, your battle prowess, how you hold yourself after the pain of a fight

ALSO as I said before, you two might be together, but Crimson is still the leader and gives all the orders, so while it is fine most of the time, it becomes difficult when you Slime not to do something and he replies, "You aren't Crimson-sama!"

It is also what leads to fights, while he doesn't mean to do it and it's out of habit, sometimes Crimson uses this as a way to order you when he'd rather not confront something

And yes, as all couples you two have fights or get into disagreements

While most consist of debating a change of plan, on some occasions it can be that Crimson has been ignoring you or others, sometimes he gets too demanding when he can simply ask a favor, or maybe you put yourself at risk in battle, other times you're simply too stubborn to listen to logic

It's small things like that Crimson and you focus on when improving, and it has made your relationship a lot happier and healthier

Companion!Hiraeth

Still can't believe somebody asked for this, but here it is! What Hiraeth would be like as a companion in the game. I haven't actually 100% finished the game, so it might be a bit bare, plus I have a bunch of stuff in their story that might not be canon compliant with Forgotten Realms lore. But who cares, this is all just for fun anyway!

Under a cut in case I want to change things later and because I don't wanna clog y'all's dashes. Spoilers ahoy!

General

Where can your Tav be recruited? Are they first encountered on the Nautiloid, or in the Nautiloid crash region? Or are they not recruitable until a later act?

Hiraeth would be recruited at the grove, where the tieflings are, below the platform that Wyll is on and close to Zorru, sitting on a nearby crate and jamming. If you speak to Zorru first with Lae’zel in your party, they will intervene and attempt to diffuse the situation, asking your Tav to go easy on him. They will disapprove (not visible) if you let Lae’zel force him to bow. After the conflict is resolved, they will tell you about ending up here after crash-landing. They’ve spent a little while entertaining the tieflings around here, particularly playing songs for the kids. Like Gale, they will mention ceremorphosis by name, though if you’ve already recruited Gale, you have the option to tell them you already know what it is, which will impress them.

Do the other companions have special comments or reactions upon recruiting your Tav?

Shadowheart: "You want a bard to join us? I suppose there are worse things." Gale: "Ah, most excellent! Perhaps my delicious meals will be accompanied by music in the foreseeable future!" Lae’zel: "Leave them. Song and flattery does not win battles." Hiraeth: "Not with that attitude." Astarion: "You know, a bard is only a step above a clown. But I suppose they can stay, if they’re quiet." Hiraeth: "Not much use for a quiet bard, is there?" Karlach: "Yes! Another tiefling! This just keeps getting better and better!" Hiraeth: "Couldn’t agree more!" Wyll: "And thus another joins the battle. What ballads will they sing of us, I wonder?"

Does your Tav have any comments or advice when you recruit other companions?

About Astarion: "You’re kinder than I am. Let’s hope it doesn’t bite you where it shouldn’t." About Gale: "He seems a sensible sort of fellow. A wizard is like a cleverer but less attractive bard." About Wyll: "The Blade of Frontiers, in the flesh. I’ve heard the tales. Crowd pleasers, but rarely show stoppers. No offense." Karlach: "I have never felt more positive about someone on fire. Let’s cool things down and see what we can offer each other, hmm?"

What sort of general actions raise or lower their approval?

In general, Hiraeth will approve of helpful and selfless actions, but will also be impressed by manipulation and finesse. They are inherently curious, and will approve of you asking questions or using specific knowledge to solve problems. They will particularly approve of actions exclusive to class or background that show your knowledge or expertise. They also enjoy forming temporary alliances with enemies only to stab them in the back. They don’t like cruelty against someone helpless, but won’t disapprove of vengeance or targeted/calculated violence. They disapprove of incuriosity, so if you often immediately start combat with NPCs without talking to them first, even evil/potentially hostile ones, they will disapprove. They are also distrustful, so deciding to trust or rely on others, particularly people in positions of power, will often net disapproval. They are also unwilling to ingest more tadpoles, and will disapprove if you force them to do so.

Are there any instances where your Tav can permanently leave the party, depending on player character actions?

Hiraeth is an expert in talking people down, and thus can occasionally be talked down or convinced into things they don’t like, as well. They will need to be talked into staying if you decide to kill the tieflings, just like Gale, but they will leave the party if you kill the Nightsong.

Do they have any secrets that can be revealed? What are the prerequisites for this secret coming to light?

Once approval is high enough, they will tell you about their family. A warlock player will have the option to make a history check, with advantage if they are a Fiend warlock. If not, Wyll or Karlach will chime in and explain that their family worships Mephistopheles like a god and breeds warlocks and sorcerers like prized dogs, and those that don’t make the cut are culled to strengthen the rest of the bloodline. That Hiraeth is here means they were deemed weak enough to kill but managed to escape. Hiraeth informs you that they may be hunted, but that it’s usually “one or two guys” who are easy to handle, and that you shouldn’t worry too much.

Do they have their own personal quest that spans the course of the game? Can it take different branching paths depending on the choices the Player Character makes?

If you have high enough approval post-family reveal, it will trigger a cutscene at camp where a purple tiefling in ominous-looking robes visits Hiraeth and demands that they hunt down and kill their sister, who’s defected from the family and apparently goes by Sweetness now. If asked about it later, they reveal the man was one of their great uncles. It seems that one of their remaining siblings has also defected, though it is curious that they’d ask Hiraeth to kill her instead of killing both of them.

The player can help Hiraeth track down their sister, and after meeting with her, they aren’t sure what to do and ask for some time to think on it. Later, a devil shows up at camp and introduces himself as the Scribe of Mephistopheles, and the one who handles most of the family’s dealings with the archdevil. He reveals to Hiraeth that their family has become a minor annoyance to Mephisto, and that he’s offering Hiraeth all their collective power if they wipe out every single one of them, starting with their own parents and siblings. Of course, that would also mean Hiraeth’s soul will eventually belong to Mephistopheles, but in return, they will become possibly the most powerful warlock in the history of Faerûn, and finally get revenge on their family. The player can then decide to encourage Hiraeth to kill their sister and begin their revenge quest, or stay their hand and cut ties with them forever, to possibly remain hunted by them for the rest of their life.

Depending on player choice, they will either ask you to help them start hunting down their siblings (and refusing nets disapproval, as you put them on this path and are now shirking responsibility), while encouraging them to break free means you might get randomly attacked by their family and the family's hirelings (though only in Act 3).

The vengeance path makes Hiraeth sharper and less patient, and they start letting their distaste for the player and the party become more and more clear, as though everyone is somewhat beneath them. In a romance, they will imply that they’ll leave the player eventually. If they break free, however, they remain chipper and friendly, though admit they are rather tired of playing the all-loving bard and being on the run.

What do they say when the Player Character asks them to stay in camp? How about when the Player Character asks them to come adventuring again?

PC: "The curtain must fall. Stay behind at camp." Hiraeth: "Did I put too much pep in your step? I can tone it down, or tune it up?" PC: "No. I’ll let you know when I need you again." Hiraeth: "Darn. Back to busking for breadcrumbs."

PC: "I need you with me, if you please." Hiraeth: "Yes, finally! And so the tale continues!"

Does your Tav have any escalating conflicts with one of the other companions, like Lae’zel and Shadowheart’s knife-fight?

Aside from having a harmless poetry-related beef with Astarion that’s limited to one cutscene, no. In the conflict, you can choose to side with one or the other (the one you didn’t side with disapproves), or neither. If you say they're both right they both disapprove, a successful Intimidation check to say they're both idiots gets you approval.

Are there any unique NPCs associated with your Tav that can show up during the course of the game?

Hiraeth’s great uncle makes a short appearance, as well as a couple siblings that don’t get cutscenes but are enemies. Their sister, Sweetness, a pink bardbarian, shows up, as well as Ramses, Scribe of Mephistopheles and Raphael’s younger but more competent brother.

Are there any moments in the game that trigger unique dialogue for your character? (Like Gale’s anecdote about the barfight after you save the goblin prisoner)

When doing the drinking contest with Thisobald Thorm, you can ask Hiraeth to step in for the story sections, or ask them for help (which gives you advantage on your Performance checks). Meeting the Orlith twins in Act 3 with them in the party also triggers special dialogue where Hiraeth reveals they have played at Sharess’ Caress (instruments … wooden instruments … MUSIC instruments), and it always increases tips for the workers there. The twins have not yet managed to convince Hiraeth to sleep with them, but they are adamant. It’s a playful and friendly interaction.

Story Specific

How does your Tav advise the player character when it comes to the Dream Visitor?

“They want you to trust them with an alarming, simpering desperation. That’s always a bad sign. Things that pretty and perfect exist only in fairy tales, to tempt the hero away from their goal.”

How do they advise the player character on Raphael?

“Heh. I know him. Well, I know of him. I wouldn’t be too worried, honestly, but I wouldn’t trust him, either. From what I hear, his incompetence is more dangerous than his ambitions.”

How do they react to Astarion biting the Player Character?

“It’s your choice, dear, but I wouldn’t let him anywhere near my neck. Elves that pretty are never to be trusted. And the vampirism is quite worrisome too, I suppose.”

How do they react to the Player Character letting Abdirak whip them?

If you do the whole thing: “Each to their own, sweetheart. I won’t be tending your wounds, though. I’m not big on messy aftercare.”

If you chicken out: “See? This is why I prefer to do the hurting.”

How do they react to the Player Character taking their first tadpole power?

“You’ve succumbed to the lure of power! Congratulations. Will you balance tip-toed on the edge of corruption, or will you be yet another villain in someone else’s tale? I will watch you with great interest, love. There is a story here, itching to be told.”

Will they stay with the Player Character regardless of siding with the goblins or the tieflings, or is it possible for them to leave the party permanently?

They will need to be convinced to stay if you side with the goblins, but it locks you out of having a romance with them, regardless.

What can they be found doing at the tiefling/goblin party?

They will be jamming with Alfira at the tiefling party, or off to the side bothering Withers with questions about death at the goblin party.

Do they have comments on who the Player Character chooses to spend the night with?

About Shadowheart: "I hear you and our resident cleric have decided to take some time for yourselves. I can’t blame you, you know. She has lovely eyes. Full of irresistible, artful sadness." About Lae’zel: "So, you and Lae’zel? Let me know if you need any, uh, patching up tomorrow. I’ll be discreet, I promise." About Astarion: "You’ve picked the vampire to spend the night with? He is beautiful, sure, but he does have the pallor of a boiled chicken breast. *Laughs* Maybe your escapades will put some color back into him." About Wyll: "I’ve been eyeing him, you know. Wyll. He’s the type you want to corrupt. Help him discover new things about himself. I hope it’s biting." About Gale: "I don’t mean to alarm you, but if Gale says ‘this is where the magic happens’ I��m gonna need you to get up and leave, alright? It’ll either be uncomfortably weird, or dreadfully boring." About Karlach: "I wish I could help you. With Karlach, I mean. I have some interesting salves, but I don’t think any of them would do the trick."

Do they have unique dialogue if the Player Character lets them die when they steal the Blood of Lathander?

“You. Absolute. JACKASS.” -10 disapproval and the player receives psychic damage from Vicious Mockery. They are half offended that you killed them, half that you didn’t even bother trying to solve the puzzle to get it the legitimate way.

How do they react if the PC licks the dead spider in the Gauntlet of Shar?

“I also love to lick dubious meat. Do it again!” You get approval.

What do they say if the PC tries to force them to go up on stage with Dribbles the Clown?

They approve and saunter up, gesturing as if trying to calm down the tepid crowd. In fact, they will volunteer to get up, and will disapprove if you don’t let them. You can override the disapproval by forcing someone else up, however.

Is it possible for your Tav to be kidnapped and replaced by Orin? How is Orin's deception revealed? How do they react to the PC rescuing them in the Temple of Bhaal?

They would not be kidnapped by Orin.

How do they react to the PC either allowing Astarion to ascend or convincing him to spare the 7000 spawn?

They seem genuinely heartbroken if he ascends, saying what a waste 7000 and one souls the whole ordeal was. If the player succeeds an Insight check or uses Detect Thoughts, they realize Hiraeth is potentially planning to kill Astarion. If called out, they will deflect. If encouraged, they also deflect, but say bitterly that they wish you’d come to your senses sooner. If Astarion does not ascend, they mention that they’re proud of him, and that they have offered to join him on his hunt for a cure/to lead the spawn in the Underdark, but that he has yet to give them an answer/he said he has someone to do that with already (romanced player).

How does Tav react to the PC becoming a mind flayer? Can they offer to become one themselves? Does their reaction change if they’re romanced?

Hiraeth respects your choice, but refuses to become one themselves. If romanced, they stay with the player, and make references to being excited about weird tentacle sex.

How do they react when the Dark Urge first reveals their amnesia and murderous thoughts to them?

They are largely nonplussed, and begin trying to figure out ways to sever the connection or lessen Bhaal’s influence on them immediately.

How do they react to the Dark Urge killing Alfira?

They are horrified, and wonder bitterly/sadly if you have something against tiefling bards in particular.

If romanced, how do they react to the Dark Urge trying to kill them in Act 2?

They are sympathetic, and try to soothe them as they struggle by singing.

Romance

Is your Tav a romanceable character? Are there any specific requirements to romancing them?

Medium approval is required to initiate, but high approval is required to make it official.

Does your Tav need to be flirted with to start the romance, or will they approach the PC themselves if approval is high enough?

They will not approach the PC, and will turn down the PC when they first ask, though they will note the PC’s interest and it’ll still register as starting the romance.

Are they a polyamorous or a monogamous option?

Romancing them along with someone else locks you out of their solo ending and many of their more personal romance conversations. Essentially, they are down to be friends with benefits while you romance someone else, but will require monogamy if you want to become serious.

Do they have a special romance scene at the tiefling/goblin party?

Siding with the goblins locks you out of starting a romance with them. At the tiefling party, they will serenade you, and you can help them write their song about you. Later, they thank you sincerely for helping their people, saying that this world makes cruelty easy, while kindness is an uphill battle. If you say that what you did is not a kindness and that you’re sad about killing goblins, or argue that goblins are people just as tieflings, you will get approval.

Does the romance have different branching paths, or just one route to take?

You can either romance them as a FWB, or enter a monogamous relationship with them. An FWB relationship is the same as a platonic relationship, but their nicknames for you change slightly and you are able to kiss/have sex with them when asked. If monogamous, they will open up more about their past traumas, and initiate intimacy on their own accord.

How do they react to the player character breaking up with them, or choosing another character over them?

If FWB: “Oh, sure! No hard feelings! Someone else will come along who wants me to warm their bed in no time, so don’t you worry about little old me!”

If choosing someone else in romance: “Hmm. Suppose I should’ve seen that coming, eh? Go on, then. I hope she/he gives you what I couldn’t.”

If breaking up in romance: “Will you give me the courtesy of a reason? Or am I to stew in my own inadequacies?”

What questions can Zethino ask the PC about Tav in the Love Test?

What is their favorite instrument? “The violin.” + 1 “Their voice.” “That forked tongue.” - 5 “Their clever words.” + 2

What is their greatest dream? “To be loved.” + 1 “To be needed.” + 2 “To be desired.” - 3 “To be famous.”

Where do they belong? “Nowhere.” -5 “Wherever they please.” -1 “In a tavern, singing songs.” “In my arms.” +1 “In the world.” +3

Do they have a reaction to the PC engaging in a relationship with Halsin?

If FWB: “Oh, you want to spice it up, do you? Not enough meat on me to satisfy your appetites? I get it. I’ll cry myself to sleep tonight, thinking deeply of what you two might be up to.” (sounding mock offended but isn’t bothered at all)

If in romance and approached for permission: “If you want a bigger lover, I can just use Polymorph and throw you around just as well as he could. But if you want him for him? Then you and I are through. I will not play second fiddle to anyone again.”

How do they react if the PC has sex with Mizora? The Emperor? Haarlep?

If FWB:

Mizora: They disapprove, because it hurts Wyll and Karlach. They also stop sleeping with you, essentially breaking up with you.

The Emperor: They are neutral on this, and almost impressed. They will ask about it, and refusing to tell them the details nets disapproval.

Harleep: They’re baffled, but won’t disapprove, saying they understand the lure but are too clever themselves to go for it. Good luck, though!

If in romance: They disapprove (-20) and break up with you on the spot.

Will they join in with the PC and the Drow Twins, or no?

If FWB: No, they will not. Your pleasure is not worth losing the (playful) beef they have with the Drow Twins. They will approve if you have sex with them yourself, though.

If in a romance: Yes, they will, but you will need to pass a Persuasion check, and they will disassociate like Astarion does.

What are Tav’s plans for the future? Do they propose to the PC, or is marriage not something they’re interested in?

They do not propose to the PC, but the PC can propose to them, and they will accept if in a romance. However, they outright say they’re not in a hurry to actually hold any ceremony, and they don’t want to settle down yet, so you will either travel the world adventuring, or you will have to let them travel the world on their own and keep it long-distance. If FWB, they will laugh and turn you down, saying you’ve both had your fun but are ready to move on. Warlock!Hiraeth will also demand that you help them hunt down their family members, and break up with you if you don’t agree.

Free space! Share anything from your Companion!Tav au!

Their idle animation has them look over their shoulders before relaxing and striking a confident pose, hands on hips.

If neither Free!Hiraeth nor Spawn!Astarion are romanced by Act 3, they can start flirting with each other in party banter.

Astarion: You know, I have considered taking up an instrument lately. Any suggestions? Hiraeth: You should choose whichever instrument you think sounds loveliest, Astarion. You must play for yourself as well as for others. Astarion: Hmm. Perhaps a lyre? I have nimble fingers. Hiraeth: Oh, I imagine you do.

Chapter 25: Girls' Night BTS

I doubt I'll do this for every chapter going forward but y'all waited so patiently for this chapter, I thought I'd drop some Lore(tm)

I definitely wrote the first half pre-concussion aka all in September, but thanks to my brain fog/memory issues, I have no idea where the delineation is ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

My OG plan for this chapter DID include all 4 textures (silk gloves, lace, velvet, and leather gloves) but Darcy and Loki kept getting distracted. (I don't blame them. They're both smoking hot)

All of Loki's past lovers are assholes in some way or another and Darcy wants to tase them all (Loki is utterly delighted by this once they get over their confusion)

I struggled SO MUCH with Darcy's kinda possessive dirty talk ("You’re always gonna be this wet for me, aren’t you?") I know it's only one line but askdjgadk As an ace person, it sounds so absurd but it's not like it's an actual expectation, it's just dirty talk <- directed at myself lmao

After the "Now you can dry everything" line, I wrote 4 pages of Pure Lokemo that I had to cut because WHAT? Shit came outta nowhere and didn't fit the tone I wanted at all. It's saved for potential future use but OOF

I had an absolute crisis trying to resolve it without having to ditch 1600+ words. Alas, the only solution was to cut it

I always wanted Darcy and Loki to have a frank conversation about how Loki's shapeshifting works because a) there's no canon explanation (...or evidence of it) and b) who wouldn't be curious?? But I wanted Darcy to treat it as carefully and respectfully as possible. She's not indifferent to Loki's genderfluid presentations but she's also aware that it's ultimately not about her.

Darcy being turned on by Loki casually shifting between genders during their convo was inspired by discord friend also finding it hot af rofl (plus it makes sense to her character)

biological determinism is the asinine "belief that human behaviour is directly controlled by an individual's genes or some component of their physiology, generally at the expense of the role of the environment" (wiki). Darcy shares my opinion, because it's a sexist af idea

I have lots of Thoughts (tm) about magically genderfluid/shapeshifting Loki and the affect of hormones like testosterone and estrogen/progesterone. Ask me about 'em

y'all ready for some more FALLOUT OC LORE. heres more of. that

this one's uhh. a lot i have a lot of feelings about fallout 4 companions and character dynamics. i dont know why like half of this is just about nukaworld but it is

startin off with some picrews (and a dollmaker. and a canon image)

Ruby Rockett - Sole Survivor of 111

Nicknames: "Bullseye" (The Railroad. canon). "Blue" (Piper. canon. She hates this. I want her to have a really snarky counter nickname for Piper but I can't think of anything. maybe "Batter" because she lives in a baseball stadium but that doesn't seem rude enough lmao). "Ru" (headcanon, mostly Deacon and Hancock. deacon started it. hancock picked it up from him. macready tries to use it sometimes but it always feels awkward when he does it, somehow).

Hates being called "the Vault Dweller." she never lived in the vault. as far as her conscious experience goes, she was only trapped there long enough to watch her husband die.

"Rockett" isn't her real last name. she picked it up as a nickname that eventually became the surname she goes by, due to her hobby of collecting red rocket toys and her love for nuka cherry

doesn't really like being called "General" and prefers the minutemen just use her name (though "general rockett" does sound pretty cool). She mostly tolerates it, but does get irritated if she's discussing something personal with Preston and he uses "General."

ruby is mildly triggered by being called "boss" after nukaworld (once had an argument with gage over the title even before everything went wrong, accusing him of not actually knowing her name. he did, but refused to stop anyway)

headcanons on companions and nicknames:

deacon doesn't bother to use her codename anymore unless desdemona is around. usually calls her "ru" which led to her calling him "dea." he once joked they should have a kid and name it rudy

deacon never told her his real name, and she assumes she'll never know. she doesn't really care, though. as far as she's concerned, whatever name you ask to be called is your name and that's all that matters

ruby has never felt quite right calling hancock by his name; innuendo jokes aside, "hancock" sounds too formal, but "john" just feels wrong entirely. she also doesn't know or care to know what his real name is if he doesn't care to share it. mostly just calls him "honey" or similar terms these days and it makes him feel soft

curie had a hard time breaking her habit of calling ruby "madame" or "miss ruby" at first, and has now settled mostly into "my darling" (ruby's very polyamorous ill get into that later)

codsworth still calls her "miss ruby" - shaun (synth shaun.) calls him "uncle codsworth" which utterly delights him

ruby uses preston garvey's first name, not his last name. he usually calls her by first name, but does also call her "General" at times. she doesn't love it but doesn't usually mind too much

genuinely finds Piper's "Blue" nickname extremely offensive. the vault may have saved her, but it was never her home. it's the place she was trapped and forced into cryostasis. the place where her husband was murdered. the place her son was taken from her. nobody ever "dwelled" there other than the scientists trivializing the rights and human dignity of her family and friends, and now it's nothing but a tomb. piper's decided to nickname her after the worst moment of her life and it's Not Cute (seriously is anyone else bothered by this. the game never gave me any opportunity to call her out on it so i dont know if she would stop if this was explained to her but it seems like an awful thing to do to someone. it would make sense for the fallout 3 protag but the fallout 4 protag never actually was a vault dweller)

current plot status: Completed main storyline (Railroad and Minutemen) and a ton of sidequests. Completed Nuka World (played along until the raiders started moving in on the commonwealth, then i just. went open season on them).

Faction Info:

Minutemen: The General. Has supported them and fought with them from day one; she was initially hesitant about accepting the position of General, but has come to embrace it. Believes in their cause and supports them proudly. Close friends with Preston.

The Railroad: Agent Bullseye. Became a passionate ally and freedom fighter from the moment she ran across them in the old north church. Considers them like family. Very close with Deacon. Was deeply affected by the loss of Glory. Heavily regrets the Institute raid, however; she feels the weight of the innocent deaths and loss of technology and resources on her every single day.

The Institute: Now destroyed, and she feels its her fault, even though she never supported the decision. Briefly worked with them at first in a vain hope that Shaun's offer to hand leadership over to her could be a chance to make amends, to use the Institute's resources for the good of the people and make a real difference in the world. But then it all came crashing down. Never once even entertained the thought of betraying the Railroad, however.

The Brotherhood of Steel: She was neutral toward them (and helped them at the police station, knowing nothing about them other than that they needed help) but had no interest in joining, put off by their culture and beginning to pick up on the hostility from other groups. When they raided the Railroad, she was hurt, angry, and confused; she went through with the plot to take down the Prydwen, seeking vengeance, but felt nothing but emptiness and regret after it fell. She can't get the image of a young boy she met during the infiltration out of her head. (( to be honest i didnt know anything about the brotherhood and was completely blindsided by the raid. i didnt even know we were enemies. they killed glory and i dont even know why. ive started following along with some of their quests on another file and it seems like they believe synths should all be destroyed, so i guess that's where the issue was. ))

Nuka World: It's Complicated™️ ruby intended to try to get the raider city under control, maybe create some kind of peace, negotiate with them. i did nuka world right after the fall of the institute so this would've been right after she had just tried and failed to do the same thing there. "if they make me their leader maybe i can fix this somehow. maybe i can solve it this time" she accepted her role as "Overboss" for a while, never really favoring any of the gangs (I pretty much gave out territory "fairly" based on who i thought would be best for that area. pack gets the zoo obviously, and the wild west. operators get the bottling plant since they'd manage it best, and nuka galaxy. disciples got kiddie kingdom bc it was funny. i didn't have any more zones to give out, i didn't specifically choose to slight them). things got out of hand and she ended up taking them all out in the end. more on that later. anyway i guess the answer here is "Briefly, overboss of every raider gang equally, until she killed everybody instead. the end"

Family: son Shaun (the first; deceased, illness and/or uh, explosion. canon). son... Shaun (the second. synth. canon. his future is uncertain, as he presumably won't age, but then, neither will his second mom Curie). Ruby's parents died in the bombings. I haven't given as much thought to her backstory as I did for Bonnie but I feel like she had a brother. Codsworth is also family to her.

Partner/s: Former husband Nathan (deceased, murdered. canon). wife Curie (dating in-canon, i hc they were married in diamond city. i think it would be a cute parallel to the other robot wedding i helped cause there). boyfriend Hancock (canon, i hc that curie has known about this from the start and is fine with it). Nick Valentine is her "one that got away" - she has wanted him for years, and he's aware, but does not return the feelings. Still close friends. (ill never forgive you bethesda i need him so bad) also has a weird relationship with deacon. i feel like there's a "makes out with you. as a friend" vibe going on there but i dont know if it ever happened. i cant figure deacon out and i know that's exactly how he likes it

Found Family: all her companions are like family to her. especially close with deacon and preston. thinks of kent like a little brother, despite him being much older than her (edit: actually it just occurred to me that he might not be. we dont know how old he was when the bombs hit but i guess they're both at least 200 years old now. but kent consciously lived those years while ruby sorta skipped them so i guess hes still older)

loved glory like a sister.

Future: does not have any more children. dies young, certainly protecting someone. dies a hero, and is remembered as a legend. it's a BIG funeral. i dont know if synth-shaun will age, but curie, hancock, and nick will still be there for him if not.

Major Injuries: Has burn scars all over from fights and reckless use of explosives/fire weapons. (I don't know what after effects she might have from the cryostasis but I feel like there should be something. in any case she certainly has trauma around being too cold or feeling trapped/feeling like she can't move.) (I also want her to have a significant injury from the Nukaworld revolution. im thinking about maybe she winds up with a prosthetic leg)

Favorite Items: Nuka cola memorabilia (has a full collection of every available nuka at the red rocket in nukaworld. my pride and joy. i made them All), nuka cherry, bourbon, red rocket toys, baseballs, lunch boxes, plastic pumpkins, med-x on occasion, anything undamaged/clean. Hoards everything. ANYTHING could be useful somewhere. she has personally rebuilt half the commonwealth out of old broken lightbulbs and toasters she dug out of the ruins

Sarcastic and rough, often hot-tempered, but kind-hearted to the core of her being. Will go to extreme lengths to protect and support others.

used to love working on her car and otherwise tinkering before the war. She now throws herself into fixing, maintaining, and building things to keep busy and avoid processing her emotions

considers herself a junker; collects everything she can get her hands on. loves unusual/interesting objects, and anything that reminds her of life before the war. She is particularly excited by anything that has remained intact - she's adapting well to the junkyard wasteland lifestyle, but something about coming across a perfectly pristine, untouched shiny metal can makes her very happy

Prone to emotional outbursts (usually manifesting as anger) - she hasn't been able to come to terms with everything, and mostly copes with it by Not Coping With It and violent denial until it explodes out somewhere. Some part of her feels intensely guilty; she likes the post-apocalyptic life. She finds it fulfilling to support the settlements across the Commonwealth, she's damn good with a gun, and always yearned for the kind of devil-may-care adventure and freedom she has now. She loved her husband, but never really wanted the domestic life in the first place.

i think her whole life Before was just sort of following the steps of what you're "supposed" to do. nathan asked her out, he was nice, she liked him well enough, so she said yes. they had been dating for a while, he proposed, and there was no reason not to - getting married and settling down was just what people do, so she did. the wedding was fine. she got pregnant not by plan, but hadn't really been putting a lot of effort into avoiding it, either, and again, having kids is just what you do. she didn't hate it. she didn't resent any of it. but none of it was what she really and truly wanted out of life.

was a punk motorcyclist as a teenager and is returning to her roots quite a bit now

Mostly considers Diamond City her home now. she loved baseball before the war, so it feels very nostalgic to her. she helped establish sanctuary hills, and it is technically her home town, but the memories were too much for her to bear. she lived there for a month or so at first - in a shack she built for herself, refusing to go in her old home and feeling uncomfortable living in the big house with the others. She still stores most of her supplies there, and visits often, but doesn't consider it her home anymore. she has since boarded up her old house, so no one, including herself, can go inside it again.

Nick Valentine was the first person she opened up to after everything happened. he was the only person she had met in this new world who could even begin to understand how she feels (except for codsworth, of course). She had - and still has - deep feelings for him, but when she tried dropping hints, he would always very politely and gently change the subject. whether he isn't interested or just doesn't think it would be a good idea, she doesn't know, but respects the boundary anyway. they do have playful vaguely flirtatious banter now and then, though. if he ever said the word, she'd be there immediately. (this is my best attempt at coping with the game not letting me have him, it makes sense but it still makes me sad. unfair)

Fell in love with Curie almost immediately, but she did admittedly rush into the relationship; the way she felt with Curie felt better than she ever thought she could feel again, and her flirting got the best of her. they still love each other very much, but largely have their own lives. Curie has found a place for herself establishing a clinic at the Castle, and while she does still travel with Ruby some of the time, she tends to worry and fuss over her too much, so they've agreed it's best to allow each other their space sometimes.

macready absolutely will not stop bringing up the romance option conversation with me so im interpreting that as he has a huge crush on ruby and she's Very Aware but just kind of ignores it. he knows she's not into him but keeps hoping he'll get lucky anyway. they're good friends though

besties with strong. this terrifies and confuses absolutely everybody but she would trust him with her life

((The Nukaworld Saga))

After the fall of the Institute, Ruby stuck around a while as the dust settled, but everyone could tell she wasn't doing well. going through the motions, numbing herself to the world, drinking more, not coping. desdemona encouraged her to take some time to process and to heal. ruby tried to focus on spending time with shaun jr., trying to let it all go and allow herself some happiness, but curie and preston could tell she wasn't okay

ultimately she decided she needed to get away for a while; out of the commonwealth, away from it all. She heard stories that Nukaworld was still standing, out there somewhere, and went on an expedition with Deacon to find it and see what was left of it. she had always wanted to go, back in its time, and thought it might be the perfect opportunity to get her mind off things for a while

they never imagined what they would find there - a whole city of raiders. Deacon stuck around for a while, and they had a grand old time exploring nuka town. but Ruby had been claimed as Overboss, and the whole thing got to be a lot more complicated than just an urban exploration trip. Deacon decided to leave, confident that ruby could handle herself, but a little worried she was in over her head and might not know when to back out. They parted ways amicably, and ruby promised to come back as soon as she could if she got any alerts from the settlements (i headcanon the in-game alerts are on the pip-boy, i dunno if that's how it's intended but that makes sense to me)

nobody saw her again for months. Nukaworld became her life for a time. She got lost in it, blind with confused trauma and tangled morality after the Institute - the surreal nature of seeing nukaworld destroyed and overrun with raiders made her lose her grip on reality a little bit, no longer sure what was real or what was right or wrong. At some level she hoped maybe she could do some good somehow, unite the gangs, bring peace, at least get them all to stay out there in the park and out of trouble...

but it all went too far. She went along as backup on an Operator expedition, only to find them shooting at Railroad agents. she hid, refusing to fight her own people, but also unwilling to admit the truth to Gage (she was never close with him, but he stuck by her through the whole park). she realized she was acting like a coward. she was only making these gangs stronger, and helping them spread more violence. she started looking for a way out.

When shank told her it was time to move in on the commonwealth, ruby realized she was in way too far - she couldn't keep up the charade any longer. the time had come to burn it all down.

she went out to the commonwealth and picked up Strong - didn't tell him what she did. just told him she needed a whole mess of people dead. together, they killed every last raider in Nukaworld. she found gage injured amidst the chaos, and tried to convince him to come with her, do some good in the world, but he shot her in the leg instead. she killed him and dumped his body in the pond, never truly forgiving herself for it. ((i wasn't intending to kill him, but there didn't appear to be any way to talk him out of fighting, and apparently after he turns hostile he still is considered a companion so like. strong couldn't kill him. i had to do it myself))

After getting the power plant up and running, ruby went back for deacon, and finally had the vacation they had hoped for - exploring the park, just messing around and having some fun for a change. along the way, ruby finally opened up about what happened out there. she at last agreed to say goodbye to nukaworld and come back to the commonwealth.

After Nukaworld, Ruby spent a lot of time returning to the settlements, trying to repair things and make up for lost time. ((i missed a Lot of settlement attacks... i didnt want to go back until i finished the dlc,, )) She brought Hancock along with her, as his relaxed presence calmed her. She never felt judged with him, even in her darkest moments. over the course of this excursion, they unexpectedly entered into a surprisingly passionate affair. ((this is. exactly how it happened i never planned to romance him on this file i just started spending a lot of time with him and when the romance option came up i couldn't say no lmao)) (note in my headcanon they're open about this, curie has known from the beginning. i think the terms of their relationship have always been fluid and open. deacon is oddly jealous, however)

the new flame did wonders to help ruby recover from her recent trauma, and she finally began to heal. i think probably she loves curie immensely but feels like she can't really talk to her about some things. she worries too much. anything ruby's seen or done, hancock has probably seen worse. he's more than rough enough to handle it, but also empathetic enough to understand. he allows her a space to express all that without worrying about scaring him or getting a lecture for the ungodly dangerous things she's done

started casually doing chems with hancock when they got close; ruby was concerned about what it would do to her at first, but felt safe trying them with him. she isn't a heavy user, but has tried a little of everything. enjoys med-x and daytripper now and then, with the occasional mentat. wouldn't lie if pressed on the subject, but mostly just keeps this habit between her and hancock, and doesn't want preston or curie to know about it.

once punched someone out for calling hancock a feral. he was extremely turned on by this ((this happened in that one vault people are still living in. the impulse to kill that guy was so strong but i didnt actually punch him bc i didnt want the whole vault to turn hostile on me forever. i did it in my mind though))

against all odds and logic, found X6-88 wandering the wastes alone after the fall of the Institute. he greeted her as if nothing had happened, like he had no idea anything was wrong, though he vehemently deflected any attempt to ask what he was doing out in the middle of nowhere by himself. he seems to be suffering from some kind of mental block or amnesia. ruby couldn't bring herself to tell him what happened or to kill him unprovoked, so she is currently hiding him at the boston airport (a settlement i never used so im turning it into a power armor storage/workshop and i built a little shack for him to live in bc i feel bad). she has no idea what to do about this and is shocked he's not yet questioning why they haven't heard from or returned to the Institute in so long. he still talks to her as if she's a top Institute operative. she hasn't been able to find a way to discuss the subject with him, and fears he'll either break down completely, become immediately hostile, or both if he ever figures it out. she just calls him "X."

((i have nO IDEA why he's still alive. i couldn't find him when i was working as a double agent so i never spent much time with him and i assumed he died in the explosion, but then i realized i could use one of the vault terminal things to track companions and figured out he was just. out in the world in some random field or something i forget where i found him. i think he's probably supposed to be dead but managed to not be there at the time or something? its really bizarre that the game seems to have no plan for how he responds to your betrayal unless he was supposed to die and just Didn't. im sneaking around exploring stuff with him to try to unlock his companion dialogues to see if anything changes but as of right now i think his existence is glitched and im interpreting it as like, some internal connection to the institute was lost in the explosion so his brain is Malfunctioning and he's in violent denial that anything could possibly be wrong))

((pretty sure danse is dead, though. i never progressed far enough to get him as a companion on this file, i dont remember seeing him on the prydwen when i was sneaking in and i haven't seen him anywhere in the wreckage either.))
