Day 20 Hildur Guðnadóttir. @Jroordaphotos and I were having a discussion about our #XpressYourselfVinylChallenge picks for the weekend, and I brought up how I wanted to do a soundtrack, but unfortunatly there arent very many female composers out there. Frig, Even if you search "Female Movie Score Composers", the first result you get is a MALE Composer. Thankfully in the last few years, this mostly male domnated field has had a wondeful influx of female artists. Enter the ever fablous and talented Hildur Guðnadóttir. This woman has a big list of accomplisments and talents. Not only is she a classically trained cellist, she has played, recorded and toured with the likes of Sun O))), Pan Sonic, Throbbing Gristle, Animal Collective and others, but she has composed some amazing scores Which have allowed here to rightfully win a few major awards.From Wikipedia: "Hildur has gained international recognition for her film and television scores, including for the action thriller film Sicario: Day of the Soldado (2018), and the HBO miniseries Chernobyl (2019), the latter of which won her a Primetime Emmy Award and a Grammy Award. For her score to the 2019 psychological thriller film Joker, Hildur won the Academy Award for Best Original Score. She also won the Golden Globe Award for Best Original Score, and the BAFTA Award for Best Original Music, making her the first solo female composer to win in both." If you have an opportunity to, you really should check out the score for Joker, and Cherlobyl. They are absoloutely fantastic. I was both floored and the small percentage of female and female identifying/trans composers, and pleasantly surprised at the amount of these lovely humans who were actually involved in some of my favoeite flicks. For starters, Wendy Carlos(A Clockwork Orange, The Shining, Tron), Debbie Wiseman(Wilde, Flood, Vampire Killers), Anne Dudley(American History X, The Full Monty, Les Misérables).
