Dylan beamed at Peyton, tearing her gaze away from the throngs of happy children to look at the other blonde momentarily. “Looks like it’s going really fuckin’ well.” She said, dropping her voice on the expletive just in case any littles were nearby when she decided to drop her f-bomb. She felt a little guilty but couldn’t just turn it off either.

She kept her green-eyed gaze focused on the people and could feel the joy as it seemed to fill the place up to the brim. She was practically floating on it, knew her dad would be proud to see, it, too. “OH!” She said, like just remembering, and pulled out her phone to take a quick scanning video of everything that was going on, at least to offer Charlie a visual next time they saw one another. This shit? The charity, the giving back? That’s what made it all worth it and it’s what endeared Dylan to Peyton as well.

“You want me to go meet Santa?” She asked, scoffing, but the idea was tempting. Her dad would get a kick out of it, too. “How about if we go together?”

"That's what I keep hearing." Camila snickered. And they were right, she should take things slow and help herself before trying to help others, shebwasnt fully recovered mentally or physically to go around being in hundreds of things at the same time but keeping her mind and body busy helped her not to think about the past. "I just... when you've need help all your life and barely got any, you just want to make sure others don't go through the same thing, you know?" The blonde was well aware it was not a generalization but she wanted to think jot everyone were selfish.

When Elisha laughed at her words her cheeks crept a little red as she laughed with him but she was curious as to why a gentle and handsome man like him was alone, she remembered him mentioning he broke up with someone when they were at her house but there surely had to be a reason for it. Sobering, Camila listened and nodded slowly,  understanding  it must have been hard for him after finishing his time in the military but still finding hard to believe how no one had the patience to deal with all the baggage he must have.

A snort that was far from being  lady-like left her as Elisha turned the question back at her and she looked down for a few seconds so her hair would cover her blushed face. "Uhm... I'm not. A jackpot." She chuckled. "I, well, I told you about  my last and only relationship ever and it didn't end particularly well." It was an understatement but the truth was too much to confess and she liked Elisha to scare off the possible of a friendship. "And I'm... solving a lot of things to let anyone get that close again." She admitted. "I'd scare them off otherwise." The chuckle was a bit forced but it was the closest thing to the truth she could come up with. "You should listen to your mom, though, you're too busy helping others but not giving yourself time to give just one person." She gave the man a small smile.

"It sounds like you're doin' a lot," he acknowledged. "It'd be impossible to try and add more onto it. It's one thing to help, but my ma always said you're not helping anybody if you can barely stand up." One of his mother's many pieces of wisdom. And trust him, she had plenty to dish out. Eli always thought he was better than saying the same old adages she had shared with him ever since he was a little kid; turns out, he was one and the same with his mother. The older he got, the more he realized that. "In other words, don't tire yourself out too bad. There's plenty of help to go around."

He crossed his arms comfortably over his chest, continuing to listen to the girl, his eyes narrowing a bit when she sounded nervous. Anything could come out of Camila's mouth at this point; she could think him arrogant, annoying, too self-serving despite thinking he was the opposite. But when she finally came out with what was on her mind, he couldn't help but chuckle.

"Trust me, I'm far from the jackpot," he said. "I don't really know how to answer that one." For once, he'd been stumped. Or, the answer was there, he just wasn't sure how to phrase it. "It's not like I haven't tried. It was hard there in the beginning since I was gone all the time, you know, overseas. When I came home, I dated here and there but ultimately we always ended up breaking things off 'cause I was too busy or... whatever else. Just never met the right person, I guess."

He thought to throw the question back at her, a grin on his face. "How about you? I mean, open up the dictionary and look for the word 'jackpot,'" he said, pantomiming such a thing, "and I'm pretty sure your name's under there." | @missautumn

he had no idea he was holding in a breath until soleil finally made an appearance. one could argue it doesn't really mean anything when your lungs are dead, like many of his other organs are, but they would be wrong -- the relief is as real as you or me, and for a while, overwhelms the dread of what's to come.

make no mistake: he knows it's unfriendly. conrad forbids himself from shrinking away. they have to do this. is it closure? it's something like that, maybe.

"soleil -- i need to talk to you," he whisper-yells back.

It's unavoidable. He's unavoidable. If only she could go back to the very first day he met him, out by the dumpster at her complex, and never take the garbage out. Then maybe none of this saying-goodbye would have to be, and she wouldn't feel so sad in her stomach.

After making him wait out there for a second longer, she huffs, pushing up against the broken window with all her might before peering out.

"What do you want?" she whisper-yells down at him. "Shouldn't you be packin'?" It's not a friendly question, neither.

So glad to be able to read the first collection of Full Tilt Boogie! I love reading @insta2000ad stories in their weekly installments, but I also love rereading my favorites when they are collected. On rereading, this is definitely a fun, weird sci-fi adventure with gorgeous art and a lot of heart.
