Videodrome (1989) Monday 6/12 @theknockoutsf
Smash in your CRT for fear of Cronenberg’s hardcore new flesh vision:  Videodrome.  Meet Max Renn, a shock-TV station magnate whose lust for cutting edge sadism demolishes reality.  Right-wing conspiracies, satellites and sci-fi horror/gore collide in this prophetic thriller-satire.  Influenced by the ideas of Marshall McLuhan, Videodrome becomes one long media hallucination-- textured so viscerally, it hurts to watch.  Long Live the New Flesh!  Featuring James Woods, Debbie Harry, Not Professor Mcluhan, and the VHS or Beta wars.  Directed by David Cronenberg
Videdrome was first shown at Cyberpunk Cinema in 2014!  The movie is now 40 years old!  As always, we’ll watch one episode of cowboy bebop before the feature!

DEBBIE HARRY
DEBBIE HARRY
1 July 1945
BLONDIE
Debbie Harry is the face of Blondie. Fans and the entertainment industry marvelled over her talent and image. The band became frustrated due to all the attention Harry was getting and they started wearing badges that read, ‘Blondie is a band.’ Harry went onto a successful solo career. Blondie had hit songs with ‘One Way or Another’, ‘Atomic’, and ‘Heart of Glass’. As a solo artist she had hit songs with ‘I Want That Man’ (1989) and ‘Well! Did you Evah!’ (1990) duet with Iggy Pop.
Harry (Angela Trimble) was born in Miami, Florida, US, as a baby she was adopted and was named Deborah Harry and raised in New Jersey. She is of Scottish background, she contacted her biological mother in 1980 who was working as a concert pianist, and didn’t want a relationship with her.
She studied Arts in college and then worked as a dancer, Playboy Bunny and receptionist. She co-formed Blondie in 1974 in New York City and the band released their first album in 1976. She went on to a solo career in 1981 and acted in independent movies. Blondie reunited during the 1990s.
Harry was once in a relationship with Blondie guitarist Chris Stein, they broke up in 1987 and remained friends - they were both using drugs during their relationship. Harry said that during the 1970s, serial killer Ted Bundy lured her into his car in New York City, but she was able to escape. Harry lives in Chelsea, New York City and Middletown Township, New Jersey with her four dogs (Japanese Chin dogs).
