Comic versus cartoon, 1984 versus 2024. I feel like there's a full undergraduate essay to be written in comparing these 2 images (I could go on about the difference in skin tones, levels of violence and drama portrayed), but I'll just say that they're both impactful in their own way. The X-Men '97 version is a lot softer of course, but the look in her eyes conveys just as much anger and hurt as in the original.

Anyway, don't hit your boyfriends, people. Unless they designed the gun that de-powered you, in which case they probably deserve it. At the same time it's quite clear that they have regrets and they would take it all back if they could and if it were you wouldn't you have tried to hide it for as long as possible too probably I mean come on we all make mistakes or colossal idiotic mistakes as the case may be.

when i saw ororo have a breakdown after losing her powers, one thing i remembered is that one of my friends, who is black, told me that when she was a child, she wouldn't eat white beans because she was afraid that it would "turn her white"

being afraid of becoming a white person is a somewhat popular joke among black people, because being black is not just something that makes you different/oppressed, it's part of a cultural identity, it's black power and all that

same is ororo's mutant powers, powers that are those of an african goddess, and when she lost them she lost such a key piece of her identity, and not only a part of her mutant identity, but a part of her black/african-american identity as well

NIGHTCRAWLER TITLE CARD! MY BOI!!!! Its all we're getting of him in this episode but I'll take it! (but my condolences, truly, to the Gambit and Magneto stans for the loss of their title cards)

Charles Xavier? Alive? In space? I am shocked! Shocked I tell you! (narrator: she was in fact, not even remotely shocked.) I've actually already seen someone venting about how much they hate the trope of someone coming back to life, and they HATE that they did this with Xavier, and 'what is Xmen even doing' and I'm like, "...Are you new to this franchise?"

Didn't actually need to know Xavier was into pet play, but there it is.

Storm/Forge romance still feels... weird? I know it happened in the comics, I just had NO idea how much time had passed at the start of Lifedeath pt 1, so it all felt VERY sudden.

Also oh yeah, I can't believe I forgot she was claustrophobic. That's kind of a big deal.

Charles Xavier: "Can I tell you a secret? Coexistence is messy." Really glad they had him say this. He may be an idealist, but he's not an idiot.

Storm magical girl transformation!!! But RIP to her mohawk. I did fucking love that mohawk, it was rad. Would love to see it with the black outfit. Alas. But the Queen is back!

Death Gambit in Xavier's vision? Is this just a cheeky reference to Death Gambit in the comics, or are we ACTUALLY getting Death Gambit?

Things about Lifedeath that have always confused me

How exactly did Forge introduce himself to Ororo? "Hi, I'm just some rando who fished you out of the river and you're in my house because reasons"?

Genius mutant inventor, can make anything...doesn't own a waterproof prosthetic.

Ororo: stupid me, I should never have tried to impress him with that dress. Also Ororo: Let me put on this super tight outfit with low cleavage.

Ok guys, is there a joke with the Hyderabadi baigan subji (if that's even how you spell it)? I know I'm showing my whiteness here, but I definitely didn't know what it was, and I'm going to assume I'm not the only one. So is the joke the coincidence of both Forge and Storm knowing about it? Or is a white writer trying to make me feel uncultured for not recognising a dish he probably only knows about from living in England (the country that colonised India)? I guess it would have been too pedestrian for Storm and Forge to bond over chicken biryani, but I'm confused all the same.
