Day 30 (Overtime): Nara and Ibushi Xeno’jiiva and Safi’jiiva!
Winner of the poll is the gleaming and glittering Xeno’jiiva! Cool and stylish choice, even if I was voting for Ceadeus myself… Xeno’jiiva isn’t he hardest fight in the world but gets a lot of points back for looking cool and interesting. Love that its another youngling elder dragon that can get bigger, meaner, if unfortunately less blue.

I’d like to take a minute and talk about Xeno’jiiva, cause it’s such a cool design and I feel like MHW really wasted it.
Largely, the story of MHW felt like it struggled to really focus, both in World and Iceborne the plot is spent focusing on other monsters, and the final boss is revealed and dealt with in one showdown.
Xeno’jiiva, I think, is the biggest victim of this. Where Shara Ishvalda got some weight, we at least had a better understanding of its impact on the environment, Xeno’jiiva’s influence isn’t made super clear, nor the ultimate threat it poses.
Xeno’jiiva is connected to the Sapphire Star, something offhandedly mentioned a handful of times that they eventually decide to call you, connected to a creation myth you can read about in the third unlockable room in an easily missed book.
It’s fascinating just how alien this design is. “Xeno” of xeno’jiiva, as well, implies something foreign, perhaps even otherworldly, there’s nothing really in the game that looks like Xeno’jiiva.
Its position, too, this creature at the heart of the Everstream (another poorly explained detail, sort of the lifeblood of the land, fueled by the life energy of the monsters?) feeding in the energy like a parasite, growing stronger.
Even more interesting is its adult form Safi’jiiva, far more earthly, similar to the Elder Dragons that populate the land.
What’s really interesting to me is in the specifics, Safi’s body may resemble the natural Elder Dragons, but it’s imperfect, covered in spikes, and especially those claws, it keeps Xeno’jiiva’s articulated forelimbs, a creepy detail that keeps it from fully resembling something natural.
Safi’jiiva, too, draws lifeforce from the land, literally. It can mechanically heal itself by doing so.
To me, Xeno and Safi’jiiva read like a sci-fi horror story, an alien completely unnatural to the land, whose presence relies on drawing life from the environment, influencing the ecosystem in strange ways and eventually growing to assimilate an appearance like the forces of nature themselves, disguising itself as something that belongs, but its true nature as a parasite remains.
If only MHW had put any amount of focus on it. I prefer MHW to MHR in many ways, but the story is not one.

The Ancient Cookies and the MH monsters they would be…
or at least the monsters that remind me of them because by Gog there are so many it’s hard to choose… except Hollyberry that was the easiest-
So…
Hollyberry- Nergigante
Mainly because in lore Nergigante is an elder that specializes in hunting other monsters of its rank (Just like Hollyberry is known to fight dragons sometimes) and also because it manages to do so without possessing any flashy abilities or elements apart from tons and tons of spikes and regeneration.
we do not talk about how it reproduces
Golden Cheese- Nef Garmat, Kulve Taroth or Ahtal Ka
Nef Garmat: Elder dragon status and also ‘cause of its wings and egyptian inspiration.
Kulve Taroth: also Elder status and… GOLD and technically ruling a place made of such thing
Ahtal Ka: Same as Nef with egyptian inspiration, but most importantly because of its sheer craftiness and power in spite of what initial appearances imply.
Basically: put this things in a blender and you get this queen
Dark Cacao- Dalamadur, Velkhana or Amatsu
Honestly it’s mostly Dalamadur because sheer power, status, it’s music theme, how it’s design and name meaning refers to it as an armored tower/ serpent, how itand it’s nake- I mean, Shah version are seen/ thought as gods that shaped and destroy the world just like Dark Cacao is seen as the one who created the cycle of day and night after defeating those two dragons in his tale…
While Velkhana has the ice theming and fight finesse and Amatsu cause of its easter dragon inspiration… and once again it’s theme music
(also Gogmazios was considered an option because of its going to fortresses to consume the gunpowder and how he probably has some in his kingdom… but he needs a break so Gog isn’t here)
And Finally…
White Lily/ Pure Vanilla-
ok let’s be real i have no idea about these two so that’s why they are together
Doesn’t mean there ARENT any monsters that remind me of them though like…
Xenojiiva/Safijiiva
Versa/ Makili Pietru
and the BIGGEST stretch of them all…
Shagaru Magala
like, in my head all of this makes sense i can’t just figure out how to elaborate on most of them (Except with the Pietru dragons and how like Lily they start as a force of good but get corrupted and such)
something something The thing that looks like a flawless and heavenly being is far worse than you imagined them to be something something like that…

A friend and I were farming Xeno’jiiva the other day. He was talking about how cool it is, and how he hopes we can fight an adult version in future games, and I was just sitting there like:

Monster Review: Xeno’jiiva
So, as the final boss for base World, Zeno here’s got some weight to pull, and honestly? I’m not certain how well it pulls it. Zeno is certainly a spectacle, and a really interesting experience, but when it comes to the actual fight it doesn’t fair so well. The design is incredible, mixing ‘just a dragon’ and ‘space freak monster’ really well, plus being absolutely massive is an obvious bonus (still obsessed with massive creatures). It does come off a bit weird in game since the story after Zorah falls apart pretty quickly, but it still has an incredible monster and especially arena design going for it. World feels like both the most frontier (as in wild, not the mmo) and most realistic game yet, and Xeno pitches both those aesthetics out the window in a heartbeat for a pretty damn interesting effect. Xeno’Jiiva is a wild fight, and terrifying to look at head on, so I must say it’s a damn nice physical appearance.
W (IG): So the big thing with this fight… is that Xeno is big. And I know I’ve said I adore huge things, and I do, but there can be weird effects that come with being huge, and Xeno’s a great example. As it’s an infant animal, Xeno has just about no coordination outside of instinct, but still poses a threat because of pure size, hitting hard and hitting wide. This can make Xeno a very dangerous threat, but paired with Xeno’s relatively slow speed and high stance, they miss pretty often, and aren’t so consistently dangerous as you may think. The swipe and laser attacks Xeno uses are very effective, providing both close and far coverage of the field, and keeping you aware since they’re some of the most common and fastest attacks. The issue mostly comes in the charges, because while faster than you might expect, Xeno also can’t really hit you outside of limbs with this, so often you’re just passing each other as it runs by (though the facial position and features make this a pretty scary attack, so bonus for style). The big changes come in phase 2, when Xeno starts flying. Now, the fight stays largely similar, but the flying is a pretty noticeable change. Every now and then, Xeno decides FU Rathalos was the peak of combat and takes to the air for a prolonged period. This is pretty interesting to watch, but kinda boring, and a really easy healing opportunity. I forgot to mention this earlier, but Xeno also occasionally presses back onto their hind legs and do a sweeping beam across a huge area in front of their body. This attack is one of my favorite since it’s the most involved when it comes to dodging of the entire fight, and gives a good opportunity to topple Xeno, and it feels like a well earned opportunity. These aimed beams are the most interesting and challenging part of the fight, and I really like them, it feels thematic and utterly destructive. The fight overall isn’t actively bad in any really big way, but it doesn’t really stand out as much as expected, and can get somewhat boring toward the latter part of the fight, so I can’t rank it all that high, but definitely not low by any means.
Rating: 7/10
This one kinda looks like if they condensed every neon light from the 80’s into one being
#MH Reviews#monster hunter#monhun#Xeno’jiiva#Y’know typing it out that’s a far weirder name in retrospect#felt pretty normal when I was actually playing World but damn is it odd

Prompt 255
You know what? Three-way crossover. Danny Phantom, DC, and Monster Hunter.
Specifically something akin to Monster Hunter Wilds (Which isn’t out at this time) where there’s not much or any sort of settlements (from what we’ve seen) though there’s some signs of ancient ones. But several heroes might have erm, fallen through a portal or two and now they’re in some sort of… place full of unknown creatures and monsters.
Dragons, for one, but that’s just the beginning of the proverbial iceberg. And they might be a bit… stuck. Just a little bit.
On the other hand, the Eternal Quartet- that is Tucker, Danny, Sam & Valerie- have decided to go on a bit of vacation before college. You know, get some last bit of feral-ness out and alright maybe they just wanted to not have to deal with other people.
And there’s a bunch of creatures here, and plenty of plants for Sam to get excited about too. And look, Valerie isn’t going to say no to a giant velociraptor sort of creature that she can ride. And- holy fuck Tucker do not harness the power of a storm to power your PDA- Actually stop summoning storms please-
#DCxDP#DPxDC#DCxDPxMH#Monster Hunter Crossover#Go crazy on what they could encounter honestly because we don’t know much about Wilds#Space Core Danny#Storm Core Tucker#Life Core Sam#Metal Core Valerie#Which heroes fell into this world? Good question#I will say Danny deserves a Xeno’Jiiva#Give this boi a baby crystal-star dragon#Yes Tucker can & has hunt a monster or 3 for food#They’re tryin to vibe while the heroes are just trying to Survive lol#Yes they all 4 have some of those raptor things#The heroes might meet them while they’re ridin away from one of those sandstorm/stampedes & get yoinked up#prompts#monster hunter#danny phantom crossover#dc crossover#could be any heroes tho

Introducing Biovor, alien dragon and eater of lifeforce!
A mysterious creature, Biovor could easily be mistaken for an adult astral at first glance, but that assumption would quickly be proven wrong upon further examination. It’s more of a reptilian creature, with scales, clawed limbs, and a long, serpentine tail. Not only that, but on its cheeks are a pair of sensory organs akin to nostrils. Certain parts of its body can light up pink when it’s stressed out.
Biovor is a child, around the equivalent of 10 years old in age. It wishes to have friends to play with, but it usually keeps to itself. The reason for this is its consumption of life energy, which makes it worry that it will consume the life energy of its friends.
~
drew my adopt from @den-of-the-blue-dragon! wanted to give it lore similar to its basis, xeno’jiiva, so it eats life energy (which is where the name Biovor comes from, it’s one letter away from “biovore”, life eater). but it’s not a monster, and it wants to be able to have friends…

You know how what I feel Monster Hunter dropped the ball on the hardest? Xeno’jiiva. I mean you get to the end of MHW and you get this alien dragon thing that fires hyper beams all over the place in a crystal cave. So when you hear a fully grown mature and adult one is hanging around you get excited only to find out. Its literally just a dragon...like...its just a dragon...like I mean yeah Dragons are cool but...its like if you ran into the Alien Queen from Aliens and that was her larvae stage and you meet a fully grown alien queen and its...just a Bear.
Like here’s Xeno’jiiva:
Here’s it apparently grown up:

Ngl, when I saw your tagged post about the Nergigante, I immediately had war flashbacks of me and my friend playing MonHun. Nergigante’s a beast (haha).
Nergigante is actually a good monster to turn Desmond into because it’s an elder dragon which means it’s one of the most dangerous monster in any MonHun game but it has a certain quirk to it:
It keeps fighting even if it means hurting itself.
Not to mention, it’s an elder dragon without any elemental abilities, relying heavily on brute force and it’s theorized (or maybe this is already confirmed? Not sure) that Nergigante’s null elemental status and its penchant for hunting fellow elder dragons shows that it is meant to keep the balance of the world by keeping the other elder dragons in check which would… sorta tie in with Desmond’s ‘special situation’ in terms of AC lore (especially now that he’s the Reader).
The spikes on Nergigante’s body can also be used as projectile which would make short work of Cesare’s Papal Army. Although, it should be noted that due to its large body, it’s more on the destructive side so if you want him to stop the colonizers from attacking Ratonhnhaké:ton’s tribe, it would be better for him to strike them before they reach the village, otherwise, the village would be caught in the battle.
As for saving Sef and Malik and Abbas’ coup, that would even be harder because Masyaf is a small space when compared to the normal Nergigante size. Although, at that point, I’m sure Desmond wouldn’t care about destroying the fortress if it means he can save Sef and Malik.
Another thing to note is that the Nergigante’s spikes regenerate (freaking too fast in my opinion) so… Altaïr can definitely use it to craft some things. (Nergigante-based armor and weapons usually rank high as well)
Btw, if you want Desmond to have a more ethereal flaming look, may I suggest a gold/white version of Xeno'jiiva?
While Xeno'jiiva does not have Nergigante’s devastating brute force, it does have a sense of mystery surrounding it, which would fit Desmond well, and is a fire elemental elder dragon (. It’s final form Safi'jiiva loses the ethereal look but is deadlier as well.
Although, if you want a monster with a connection with the sun, our best bet is Teostra.
Or the deadlier variant, the Risen Teostra
*******************************************************************************************
Additions by SaberAmane:
Ok, so...I have Monster Hunter World for ps4, and I’ve had it for literal months now, and just havn’t gotten time to play it. But all the monsters and such I’ve seen from the game look awesome and is the main reason I got it to play.
Now for Nergigante, his size would cause issue for doing anything in towns, or dense forests, but I love the fact that Altair could use the spikes from his body to make weapons and armor, and it wouldn’t hurt Desmond at all since they detach organically.
Xeno’jiiva looks even cooler, and yes a white/gold variation would be stunning! Also I love the ‘false eyes’ look that travel up the horns, it’s something a lot of animals do to protect themselves (there’s a moth/butterfly that literally has wings that look like a snakes head) but also it’s just a cool look, and it seems like they might be able to glow as well? That would just make him all the more menacing.
But I have to say, for my love of dragons and related creatures, Teostra would have to be my favorite choice. It seems to be a type of Manticore, which is just awesome and a fantasy creature that doesn't often get used because Dragons are seen as being ‘cooler’ and often more menacing.
My argument would be, how is a lion/dragon hybrid, which is usually venomous/poisonous, and can fit into the same space a human would go to hide, not just as cool and deadly??
The Risen Teostra looks more manticore than the regular, having a more lion-like face, but I do like the giant tusks the regular one has. And it’s probably the rendering or angle or something, but the regular Teostra seems to have bigger, more ‘ornate’ horns??
So...I would have to say Teostra would be my pick. It’s still deadly, looks cool, can fly to get places quickly, but also... you can’t hide in a building/cave to get away from it because it’s too big to fit. It can pretty much go where ever a person can. The only thing i’d change is to give it the scorpion tail manticore’s typically have so he could have that poison ability to both use himself on enemies, but to also aid the Assassin’s.
