The fact that Violet got fucked (literally), betrayed by her boyfriend, heartbroken over losing her friend, betrayed by her dragons, hurt AND poisoned all in the same day is wild. You guys complain she’s “annoying” but I think she’s not half as annoying as she could have been. Matter of fact she should’ve set Riorson House on fire as soon as she woke up and saw HER BROTHER was fucking alive. She took it too well all things considered

Shadow Ball - Garrick Tavis x Reader (OC)
Chapter 1 - Prisoners of the Ancient Secret
please see warning in the introduction / teaser
_______________
Garrick’s POV
Rain pattered against my window. The sun hadn’t shown itself once this month.
But then again, the seasons in Tannasgvalley followed their own rules.
A forgotten place, absent from any map. And yet, here we were. Imogen. Bodhi. Xaden. Violet. Ridoc. Sawyer. No longer cadets. Fighters. Warriors. Riders. "Colonal Sir Plade is calling everyone for a mission briefing," Violet murmured as I sat in the dimly lit, cramped mess hall of Fort Lince, our remote outpost in Tannasgvalley, enjoying my scrambled eggs.
"Does anyone even know why we’re here?" Ridoc asked, his mouth still half-full. Sawyer nodded in agreement. No one knew. The only thing we were certain of? This mission wasn’t official. We had sworn absolute secrecy. And if we broke that oath? Malek.
But of course, this only made us more curious.
What kind of secret was waiting for us? How deep did it go?
"Well then, let’s go," Imogen said, standing up and heading toward the inner courtyard. We followed her. Ready—yet uncertain.
There weren’t many people here. The outpost itself, however, was massive. Hundreds of rooms. A dedicated field for our dragons. There was even a small swimming pool. And yet, only about twenty of us occupied the entire place. "Good morning," the Colonel greeted us, immediately making one thing clear. "Different rules apply here. We don’t use ranks. I don’t believe in them—we are all of equal worth. I will introduce everyone now. Memorize the faces. Learn who is responsible for what. I’ll start with myself. My name is Tomak Plade. I am in charge of this operation. We have healers here: Jed Perth, Lily Meint, Rider Wills. Soldiers: Imogen Cardulo, Bodhi Durran, Xaden Riorson, Violet Riorson, Ridoc Gamlyn, Sawyer Henrick, Garrick Tavis, Rys Spekle, Dina Toga. The Watchers: Iliys Natja, Flora Myers, Ryan Apples, Floyd Tusker. Our Communication Watch is Reena Spellder. Mail only comes in, never out. Understood? Good. I want you all to get to know each other today. Except for the Watchers—I need you now. Your briefing starts immediately. Iliys, Flora, Ryan, Floyd—follow me." With that, he turned and left.
"That was weird,"* Bodhi muttered, staring after Plade. ''Fuck yeah', Ridoc mumbled. And we watched them leave. After several conversations with the others, we were no closer to an answer.
No one knew why we were here. And slowly, that fact began to unsettle me.
Xaden shot me a glance, confirming that I wasn’t alone in my unease.
The rest of the evening passed quietly.
Chradh laid on the field, relaxed, his massive wings spread wide as the rain drummed against him.
*Chradh, do you know what’s going on here?* I asked through our bond.
*No,* he replied curtly and blocked our connection.
Thanks, you ass, I thought, rolling my eyes as I made my way to my room.
The room was huge—larger than any I had ever had before.
A massive bed, far too big even for me.
An ensuite bathroom with a bubbling bathtub.
I had never seen anything like it, but Tannasgvalley seemed to have technology far beyond our own.
The lights weren’t powered by magic; there was a switch.
And yet, they still reacted to our magic.
The magic here was strong, but different. It felt... dark. But not like the venin. Different, something I have never felt before.
______
''Normally, there are no Signets in Tannasgvalley. No powers that humans possess. It’s not like in your lands. Dragons cannot bestow anything here. But there are Abominations. And that is exactly what we call them."
"So far, we know of four. Each Watcher was assigned an Abomination yesterday. Every Watcher has two soldiers—except for Floyd. Floyd has three. I will assign you after the Abominations have been introduced," Tomak said the next morning during our first official briefing. He was a middle-aged man, his slightly graying hair tousled by the wind as the Watchers stepped forward. Now things were about to get interesting. Everyone shifted uneasy as Tomak lifted his hands and - he projected a portrait. I have never seen such thing before.
"As you can see," Tomak continued, "I have the ability to project images and portraits—but only superficially. I can take a picture and display it for you here. My power is usually useful for maps, plans, and books. But now, I will show you the four Abominations. It is too dangerous to have all four in the same place." Then, he revealed the first image—a completely average-looking young man.
Iliys stepped forward and spoke: "This is Abomination 1. I am responsible for him. His name is Kilian Sortley. He was born here with the power of Psyblast. He wears chains around his hands that suppress his magic."
I studied the image carefully. A young man. No older than thirty-five. Raven-black hair, similar to mine. Piercing green eyes.
Iliys continued, "Abomination 1 is 5'10, weighs 85 kilograms. He has no combat skills. Psyblast sends his opponents into a psychotic state that can last for minutes. He has no control over his power."
Iliys stepped back, and the image changed. Flora moved forward. "This is Majard Tokba. You will refer to him as Abomination 2 or simply ‘Two.’ He was also born here. His power is Mindmadness—it drives you insane by making you doubt yourself until you fucking end your own life. He is 6'5, a giant. 140 kilograms of pure muscle. However, he has no combat experience. He has been in captivity since he was two years old. He wears a silver headpiece that suppresses his magic.''
Flora stepped back, and Ryan took her place. An image of a little girl with fire-red hair, barely ten years old, appeared.
His expression, usually stiff and lined with deep wrinkles, darkened as he spoke. "This is Abomination 3, Ewe Lords. She is the last known Abomination to be born. She is only eight years old. 4'5, 30 kilograms. No fighting experience. She has been in captivity since birth. Her power is Draining—she absorbs your brain’s capacity, turning you into a mindless, dependent husk. But every time she drains, she suffers as well. She wears a silver head piece to suppress her magic."
Ryan stepped back, and Floyd took his place, his eyes locked onto the newly projected image of a young woman with strawberry-blond hair.
"This is Abomination 4. She is manipulative and dangerous. Her power is Shadow Ball. She can send her psychic attacks flying like ghosts, multiply them, and terrorize your mind. Her name is Kilynn Chester. She is twenty-five years old and has been in captivity since she was three. Kilynn is 5'3 and weighs 62 kilograms. She has no combat experience. Due to her being able to cast Shadow ball she wears to rings, one on each Ringfinger and a necklace around her neck, all three pieces are connected by a chain".
He stepped back and the pictures vanished.
Deep lines formed on the faces of everyone present.
Violet whispered, ''They look like normal people. How can they be so dangerous?"
Ridoc laughed. "You know how dangerous you are, right, Vi?"
Tomak stepped forward again. "Number 1: Iliys with Imogen and Bodhi. Number 2: Flora with Rys and Dina. Number 3: Ryan, Xaden, and Violet. Number 4: Floyd with Ridoc, Sawyer, and Garrick."
''How convenient'', Ridoc shot Violet a grin. She flashed him a mocking smile.
"I want you to get to know your Abomination with your Watcher," Tomak continued.
"You will control, test, and study your Abomination’s soul over the next few weeks. After eight weeks, you will decide whether it’s possible to train your Abomination into a weapon for us, or if it will be executed."
I swallowed hard—and followed Sawyer and Ridoc as they quickly moved after Floyd.
_Part 2
__
This is part one. I hope you enjoyed it as much as I enjoyed writing it! In the next chapter Garrick, Sawyer and Ridoc will get to know Kilynn, but we will get snippets of the others meeting their abomination aswell and who knows, maybe some are already bonding with theirs :)

It had been weeks of trying to get my sword swing right. With daggers, I was skilled—extremely skilled—but swords were a different story. They were heavier, harder to handle. So, I’d started asking Xaden for help.
For the last few weeks, Xaden had been working with me, but it never seemed like he actually wanted to. That thought alone filled me with insecurity.
Today, I had one of those rare moments as a first year where I had nothing on my schedule. I saw it as the perfect opportunity to get in some extra training.
But for that, I needed Xaden.
Lucky me, he just happened to be in the training room, his friend Garrick not far off. Both of them were clearly caught up in their own routines.
I hesitated for a moment before slowly making my way over to him, sword in hand. I always doubted myself when asking for his help. Sure, he did help, but it never felt like he actually enjoyed it. Maybe he only did it because I’m a marked one.
“Hey…” I said quietly, my voice barely audible. I swallowed hard, steeling myself before trying again. “Would you mind helping me with that swing? I think I almost have it.” I tried to sound casual, throwing in a touch of friendliness for good measure.
He stopped mid-movement and turned toward me, his cold eyes locking onto mine. Yep, definitely annoyed.
I sucked in a deep breath. “Just a moment…please?” I tried again, my tone softer this time.
He sighed, running a hand through his hair before letting it fall to his side. He dropped his sword. “Just a moment,” he said, his voice as sharp and cutting as the blade in my hand.
Xaden was always the same when he gave instructions—sharp, and to the point. Even after the session ended and he stepped off the mat, he didn’t soften. No goodbye, no comment on what I should work on. It was strange—he always had something to say, some correction to offer for next time.
Not today. Today, I had officially pushed all his buttons and that made me feel horrible.
Later that night, about an hour before curfew, I wandered through the massive halls of the Riders Quadrant. With the freezing months settling in, a nice hot drink seemed like a good idea.
I turned toward the courtyard when I heard voices—two of them. A man and a woman.
“We’ll both regret it,” the man said, his tone low and laced with frustration.
No…wait. That’s Xaden’s voice.
“Naturally,” the woman replied, her voice calm and familiar. Violet Sorrengail.
As quietly as I could, I moved toward the edge of the wall. I peeked around the corner, but I immediately wished I hadn’t.
Violet and Xaden. Kissing.
I bit my lip. No, it wasn’t just kissing—she was practically climbing him.
I stepped back from the wall, sucking in a shaky breath to stop myself from trembling.
I never felt anything romantic for Xaden—or at least that’s what I told myself. He was helpful, even when he never seemed to want to be. But seeing them together…it hurt more than I expected.
It's probably better this way. If i don't talk to him, i won't have to face the humuliation of knowing he chose someone else.
The urge to look again, to confirm what I’d seen, was huge. But I knew what I saw. No need to make it worse.
It had been five days since I last spoke to Xaden—or more accurately, since I started avoiding him. The ache in my chest hadn’t eased, no matter how much I tried to bury it.
I spent most of my free time practicing. Training felt like the only way to get him out of my head, though it never worked completely.
It was nearly dark, the training room clearing out as the hours ticked by. I swung my sword again, harder this time, pouring my frustration into each movement.
“Use that much force, and you’ll cut your own head off.”
I froze at the sharp voice behind me.
Taking a deep breath, I turned to face Xaden. You can do this, I told myself.
“I don’t recall asking your opinion,” I said, keeping my tone neutral as I buried my emotions.
He raised a brow, the scarred one. “You asked me to teach you,” he argued, his voice just as sharp.
“Do you think I don’t notice you slipping out of every room I walk into? Avoiding me like I’ve done something wrong?” He steps closer, his voice low and cutting. “Tell me what I did.”
I scoffed and turned back toward my mat, but before I could pick up my sword, his hand wrapped around my wrist.
“Let go,” I said through gritted teeth, trying to pull away.
“No,” he said firmly. “Not until you tell me why you’ve been avoiding me. And don’t lie—we both know you have.”
His grip didn’t loosen, but his tone softened slightly, the sharp edge still unmistakable.
“I don’t get involved in relationship drama,” I replied sarcastically, giving him a pointed look.
His frown deepened. “What does that have to do with anything?”
“You and Violet,” I said, raising a brow. “I’m not getting between that mess.”
His grip finally loosened, and he stepped back, confusion flickering across his face.
“Violet and I are not…that is not—we’re not together,” he said sharply.
“She climbed you like a tree five nights ago,” I deadpanned, meeting his gaze head-on.
For a moment, he just stared at me. Then, to my shock, a grin spread across his face—wider than I’d ever seen.
“You’re jealous,” he said, his tone almost teasing.
“Excuse me?” I shot back, taken aback. “I assure you, I am not jealous. I just refuse to be part of a mess.”
He stepped closer, and I instinctively backed into the wall. His hands came up, caging me in.
“I assure you,” he said softly, his voice dropping lower, “there’s nothing between Violet and me. What you saw was her first time experiencing the mating bond between our dragons.”
I opened my mouth to respond, but he beat me to it.
“Surprisingly, I only have eyes for you.”
My breath hitched, his words catching me completely off guard. “You don’t show it,” I managed to say after a moment. "All you’ve ever done is push me away.”
His brows furrowed, frustration flickering across his face. “Because I can’t think straight when you’re around. You’re stubborn, infuriating, and you have no idea what you’re doing to me.”
He sighed, the softness in his expression almost foreign. “It’s difficult to teach you when all I want to do is kiss you.”
Excuse me? There is no way that this man just admitted that. The usual cold, emotionless man that I had been stupidly falling for did not just admit to want to kiss me.
"what?" I whisper out, not trusting my voice to talk any louder or say anything else.
One of his hands cup my face and I can feel my cheeks flush. "All I want to do is kiss you." He repeats, his voice is just as confident as before.
I think for a moment before I speak again. "Then why don't you?" The question is soft and I can barely even finish it as his mouth crashes on mine.
The kiss is rough, just as I expected from this man. His hand on my face tightens and his other hand goes to my waist. He squeezes my waist softly as the kiss deepens.
Gods, this man.
After a few more seconds he pulls away, leaving my breathless as I lean against the wall.
"That was..." I start breathless. "Perfect," he finishes for me. A smile creeps up my face, I can feel my body heat up more every second.
"yeah....yeah, it was perfect," I repeat and I lift my eyes to his. He seems to be feeling the heat to.
"we can finish what we started in my room." He proposes and my eyes widen slightly-- not in fear, no, in anticipation.
I nod my face quickly. "Yeah sounds amazing. Sounds perfect." I say with a smile. He gives me a grin.
"Let's go then." He says grabbing my hand.
