David as Benedick in Much Ado About Nothing (the first time he did it, that is!)
David Tennant fans are aware of 2011's brilliant Much Ado About Nothing, in which DT starred as Benedick, alongside Catherine Tate as Beatrice. Filmed at the Wyndham's Theatre in London and directed by Josie Rourke, the production was recorded and offered on Digital Theatre.
But did you know David had played Benedick before?
Yep - he sure has!
It was in 2001, a full decade before his production with Catherine.
Beginning in 1999, BBC Radio 3 launched Shakespeare For The Millennium, an ambitious project to dramatize seventeen Shakespeare productions in four years.
The project was done in collaboration with BBC Worldwide, which emphasized it wanted to take a contemporary, innovative approach to the Bard. It launched on 12 September 1999 with a Shakespeare discussion panel, and a new production of Hamlet -- starring none other than Michael Sheen as the Dane!

On 23 September 2001, BBC Radio 3 broadcast a new production of Much Ado About Nothing as the Sunday Play, with David in the lead role as Benedick and Samantha Spiro as Beatrice. Adapted by Sally Avens, it featured an introduction (as had all the previous productions in the Shakespeare For The Millennium series) by Richard Eyre, the former Director of the Royal National Theatre.
The production also starred a few other recognizable names. There was Chiwetel Ejiofor as Claudio, Emilia Fox as Hero, David Swift as Leonato, Julian Rhind-Tutt as Don John, and David Haig as Dogberry.
All original music was composed and performed by Simon Oakes and Adam Wolters.

Radio listings and announcements, and promo photos of David and Samantha Spiro
Here's a review of the prodcuction!

Much Ado About Nothing was commercially released by BBC Worldwide as part of the BBC Radio collection series in 2001.
The sleeve notes of cassettes and CDs of the production include a scene-by-scene synopsis, a full character analysis, and an essay on interpretation from the director Sally Avens.

Almost four years later, in November 2005, BBC One broadcast a television series called ShakespeaRe-Told, a set of four adaptations of Shakespeare's plays. Each play was adapted by a different writer, and all were relocated to the present day.
The first to be broadcast - on 7 November 2005 - was a modern-day version of Much Ado About Nothing starring Sarah Parrish and Damien Lewis...and Billie Piper and Nina Sosanya and Olivia Colman!
You can watch it here:
youtube
Six days after this television broadcast - on 13 November 2005 at 7:15 pm - BBC Radio 3 re-broadcast the audio version starring David and Samantha in its 'Drama On 3' slot.

Fast forward to August 2020.
The BBC released a set of four BBC Radio Shakespeare collections: Histories, Comedies, Tragedies, and Roman Plays. Much Ado About Nothing was included in the collection of Comedies, and became available as an Audible digital download.

If you want to listen, you can find this collection a lot of places. It might be at your local library or on Overdrive, on Google Play, or as an Amazon Audible book.
Or, ya know, just go here:

I have no idea if this is a tv show, a movie, whatever. I don't even know what it's called, but I NEED to know if you have the full video of the production of Much Ado About Nothing with David Tennant and Catherine Tate, please
i typically don't have googledrive space for content outside of panel shows and contemporary britcom, but we all love david & catherine so much and that show is so iconic... i must
i added it to the david tennant folder under collections, which is on the non-panel show masterpost. sorry it's just mid res 720p mp4 but i hope that works!
btw for clarity it's a recording of one of the performance during the show's run at wyndham's theatre in london in 2011!
ps catherine tate didn't have to be so babe in it but she did and my eyes are very grateful
i don't have blackadder up atm because i'm hoping the new bluray rips will be out asap and i'd like to take a look at the quality of those! blackadder is infamously pretty low res and i want to make gifs 😠🥲🥲 but if you need it asap you can request it on r/tv_bunny and someone will def have a link!
omg i actually giffed that in 2018! i remember i was so drunk cuz i watched it after a new year's party so the whole episode felt like a fever dream LOL like so many juice eps do...
but i tried to make a slightly better one for you so here you go! free to repost :)

Day 2
After a quick breakfast at the hotel I made my way out for the day passing Monument to the Great Fire of London and the Tower of London on the way to Tower Bridge. It was a bit drizzly this morning but not too cold and slightly quieter on the street than yesterday morning. Walking over the bridge was a bit windier than the rest of the walk, but going down The Queens Walk past HMS Belfast and under London bridge was more covered and a lovely walk down to the Tate.
After not getting to the Tate last time I was here it was great to get here finally. The main exhibitions I might get to when I’m back in London so I focused my time on the permanent galleries, stopping in for a coffee on level 10 with a lovely view over the Thames and the city between galleries. I especially liked seeing Litchenstein’s ‘whaam’ and in another room a series of ‘reflections on…’ where he reuses his own works with a painted glass lens over them, obscuring parts of the piece as if from a reflection. And who doesn’t love seeing a Duchamp urinal.
Then it was off to The Globe for Much Ado About Nothing. At the beginning of the performance an announcement was made that the actress playing Hero was ill and as they don’t have understudies, another performer has been called to read in. This was just so much fun. Standing, well… leaning, as a groundling is always different and being outside with a bit of rain here and there just added to the experience. The performance was lovely and interspersed with music, a great cast who played off the audience so well, with a special heckle from a young child when one of the actors was called ‘an ass’
After walking back to the hotel I remembered that Long Days Journey Into Night was at 7pm, not 7:30. So I quickly got ready and headed back out to the Wyndhams Theatre. Sitting in the front row for possibly one of the best performances I have seen in a long time was just amazing. The nuance and reactiveness from all five actors was astounding to see. It is such a deeply moving and upsetting piece of theatre, when a cast of that caliber is performing it is pure magic. Brian Cox and Patricia Clarkson were just so good in these roles.

David Tennant is one of a host of celebrities to donate to an auction to raise funds for the NHS during the Coronavirus crisis. David has kindly offered up a bottle of champagne, which was produced in a limited number to celebrate the first night of his 2011 run in #MuchAdoAboutNothing. He has also autographed the bottle. (In 2011, he and #CatherineTate played the theatre production Much Ado About Nothing, at Wyndham’s Theater in London. On the day of the premiere, they released these special champagne bottles with a picture and a message, they distributed them to every member of the troupe and workshops.)

Queer Eye for the Tennant Guys
read it on the AO3 at https://ift.tt/2Yjh36n
by Mangaluva
The Fab 5 get an unusual request to see to five different Heroes (for a given value of the word) who look oddly similar...
Words: 3691, Chapters: 1/1, Language: English
Fandoms: Queer Eye (Netflix revival), Good Omens (TV), Good Omens - Neil Gaiman & Terry Pratchett, Doctor Who (2005), Hamlet - Shakespeare, Much Ado About Nothing - Shakespeare, Broadchurch
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warnings: Major Character Death
Categories: Gen
Characters: Jonathan Van Ness, Antoni Porowski, Karamo Brown, Tan France, Bobby Berk, Crowley (Good Omens), The Doctor (Doctor Who), The Doctor's TARDIS, Alec Hardy, Hamlet (Hamlet), Benedick (Much Ado About Nothing), Davina (Rab C Nesbitt)
Relationships: Beatrice/Benedick (Much Ado About Nothing), Aziraphale/Crowley (Good Omens)
Additional Tags: specifically the 2011 Wyndham Theatre production of Much Ado About Nothing, and the 2009 Royal Shakespeare Company production of Hamlet, for David Tennant reasons, Karamo I'm so sorry, deaths in Shakespare alluded to but not depicted, some lines from Antoni paraphrase a conversation from season 4 about his father, JVN and Crowley are both nonbinary and loving it, no I did not pay any attention at all to meter in Benedick and Hamlet's scenes, so my old english teacher will probably track me down and take the shot any day now, The Major Character Death tag refers only to Hamlet and Hamlet-adjacent characters, not any of the Fab 5, Davina's only in there for like a second but there is zero transphobia in her scene I promise
