It was a Shakespeare class with a teacher by the name of Juanita Pat Rice. For her, the language of Shakespeare required only allegiance to the words, no need to impose your inner life on the perfectly constructed words. This would come as a surprise to some students with an allegiance to psychological realism or the famous “method” taught in “regular” acting classes. This person would say: “Our other acting teacher said that what we are looking for is truth. And the truth is inside of us. There’s a Hamlet in me and that’s what I’m after.” I watched Juanita carefully as she calmly returned to “Hamlet,” quoting: “Speak the speech, I pray you, as I pronounc’d it to you, trippingly on the tongue.” We were about to learn that Hamlet was in the words — and in the subtle rhythms of the words.
---
I did the exercise exactly as Juanita said. I said 14 lines of Queen Margaret, 14 lines I chose randomly, but 14 lines that happened to be a curse on Richard. I said the lines over and over for several hours. Now, I know that wasn’t such a ridiculous thing to do. Why shouldn’t I spend two hours or three or four saying 14 lines over and over? And something happened: I saw Queen Margaret right there in that basement apartment I had rented for the summer. I conjured her.

Concerning Margaret’s transition from Angevin princess to Queen of England, historian Lauren Johnson gives some light about it as we see below:
“While Henry prepared for his queen's arrival with costly restoration and building work on the royal palaces, Margaret remained with her family in Lorraine. In the end, she did not leave them until March 1445, eventually making the journey from Nancy through Armagnac controlled France with a considerable escort of musicians, courtiers and servants.
Margaret's brother, Jean of Calabria, accompanied her with a French escort as far as St Denis, then the duke of Orléans took his place as representative of the French princes.
At Pontoise, on the ancient road from Paris to Rouen, her French escort left her altogether and she was delivered into the care of the English.
Henry had spent more than £5,000 providing his queen with a suitably impressive, 300 strong, for her journey, but the strain of endless travel and the transformation in her situation started to take its toll on Margaret.
She had only just turned fifteen and had still never met the man for whom she was leaving her family and friends to begin a new life in England. Her physician's bills mounted, Dr Francis mixing up 'diverse spices, confections and powders' to make her medicine while a yeoman toiled in the kitchen to try to restore her to health with nourishing dishes. It did not help.
Margaret was so ill by the time she reached Rouen that the sumptuous chariot draped in cloth of gold that Henry had sent for her formal entry into the city had to be occupied by a proxy.
Suffolk's wife, Alice Chaucer, played the part of 'queen' while the sickly Margaret languished in Rouen Castle.
On 3 April, Margaret was rowed out to the Cock John off Cherbourg, one of a fleet of ships arranged to convey her to England. As the ship sailed along the coast between Portsmouth and Southampton she was serenaded from two Genoese galleys.
The music failed to soothe her. Margaret blamed the crossing for the sickness she suffered on arriving in England, but as she was still ill a week after setting foot on dry land, the 'pox' that afflicted her sounds more like the result of anxiety.
Whatever her private worries may have been, there was no turning back now. Her life as princess of Anjou was over. She was now queen of England.”
JOHNSON, Lauren. “Shadow King: Life and Death of Henry VI”

Edinburgh Castle
Edinburgh, Scotland
Perched overlooking Scotland’s capital on a chunk of volcanic earth known as Castle Rock, Edinburgh Castle is one of the oldest fortified places in Europe. King David I started its construction in the 12th century, and the site has housed many historical figures over the years, from Queen Margaret to Mary Queen of Scots. Its changing tenants reflect a history of constant war: Researchers have estimated that 26 sieges have taken place throughout the castle’s history. As a result, many legends are connected to its violent past, and its dungeon, in particular, is said to be haunted by tortured souls.

Queen Mary's Lozenge Tiara Has Been Found!
Tumblr media
Queen Mary's Lozenge Tiara which was thought to have been languishing in the vault for six decades has been found with a member of a royal family - just not the British royal family.
Tumblr media
The tiara first appeared on Queen Mary in the 1930s though it was likely made a bit earlier. She wore it with thirteen pearl shaped pearls attached to the top but those were removed by the time the tiara made it's way to Princess Margaret.
Tumblr media
In 1948, the tiara was worn by Princess Margaret for her first tiara appearances during the inauguration festivities of Queen Juliana of the Netherlands. For a long time it was thought to be a loan but now seems to have been an 18th birthday present from her grandmother. She wore it a few times in her early years of tiara wearing but it was never a favorite and the last public appearance was in 1965. Princess Margaret did sell some jewels during her lifetime so it's not out of the question that this tiara was discreetly sold sometime after 1965 with no mention of the owner.
Tumblr media
And now the current owner is Queen Azizah of Pahang! The tiara was bought by Queen Azizah in 1988 from a jeweler in New York City with no mention of it's provenance. It has been worn regularly by the family since.
Tumblr media
Saad Salman from The Royal Watcher made the connection when he was in Malaysia for the wedding of Prince Muhammad and Natasya Adnan. He mentioned that they might be the same tiara to Queen Azizah and she invited him to take a closer look. She is very interested in historical jewelry and has been great about providing information about the Pahang collection. I'm a little sad because I've long wanted this one to appear on a member of the BRF but it's so wonderful that not only does the tiara still exist but it's still worn instead of being stuck in a vault.
Congrats to Saad for such an amazing discovery!
