sometimes you need dialogue tags and don't want to use the same four

Apparently a lot of people get dialogue punctuation wrong despite having an otherwise solid grasp of grammar, possibly because they’re used to writing essays rather than prose. I don’t wanna be the asshole who complains about writing errors and then doesn’t offer to help, so here are the basics summarized as simply as I could manage on my phone (“dialogue tag” just refers to phrases like “he said,” “she whispered,” “they asked”):
“For most dialogue, use a comma after the sentence and don’t capitalize the next word after the quotation mark,” she said.
“But what if you’re using a question mark rather than a period?” they asked.
“When using a dialogue tag, you never capitalize the word after the quotation mark unless it’s a proper noun!” she snapped.
“When breaking up a single sentence with a dialogue tag,” she said, “use commas.”
“This is a single sentence,” she said. “Now, this is a second stand-alone sentence, so there’s no comma after ‘she said.’”
“There’s no dialogue tag after this sentence, so end it with a period rather than a comma.” She frowned, suddenly concerned that the entire post was as unasked for as it was sanctimonious.

Something like this would be so colossally helpful. I'm sick and tired of trying to research specific clothing from any given culture and being met with either racist stereotypical costumes worn by yt people or ai generated garbage nonsense, and trying to be hyper specific with searches yields fuck all. Like I generally just cannot trust the legitimacy of most search results at this point. It's extremely frustrating. If there are good resources for this then they're buried deep under all the other bullshit, and idk where to start looking.

If you haven’t started already, start archiving/downloading everything. Save it to an external hard drive if you’re able. Collecting physical media is also a good idea, if you’re able.
Download your own/your favorite fanfics. Save as much as you can from online sources/digital libraries. Recipes, tutorials, history, LGBTQ media, etc. It has been claimed, though I can’t find the exact source if true, that some materials about the Revolutionary War were deleted from the Library of Congress.
It’s always better to be safe than sorry and save and preserve what you can. Remember that cloud storage also is not always reliable!
Library of Congress - millions of books, films and video, audio recordings, photographs, newspapers, maps, manuscripts.
Internet Archive - millions of free texts, movies, software, music, websites, and more. Has been taken offline multiple times because of cyber attacks last month, it has recently started archiving again.
Anna's Archive - 'largest truly open library in human history.’
Queer Liberation Library - queer literature and resources. Does require applying for a library membership to browse and borrow from their collection.
List of art resources - list of art resources complied on tumblr back in 2019. Not sure if all links are still operational now, but the few I clicked on seemed to work.
Alexis Amber - TikToker who is an archivist who's whole page is about archiving. She has a database extensively recording the events of Hurricane Katrina.
I'll be adding more to this list, if anyone else wants to add anything feel free!

Optimus Prime’s 7 Tips for Dealing with Grief if You’re A Struggling Introvert
1. Change the temperature - take a super hot/cold shower, run around outside; anything to force your body to feel SOMETHING is so important! Grief can make us feel numb to emotions, so feeling a physical change is important!
2. Eat. Eat food. Comfort food is best. Mac and cheese, pancakes, strawberries. Anything that makes your tummy happy or helps with a nasty hangover is best!
3. Read The Prophet by Kahlil Gibran. It’s not very long and the metaphors serve as food for thought to help navigate your emotions.
4. Cry. Just cry. Bawl your eyes out until you’re a mess of snot and tears and tissues. It’s gross, but the cortisol release in your brain helps regulate the big emotions you’re feeling.
5. Sleep. Put your phone on charge in the kitchen, and sleep. Your body is navigating a lot of stress that can manifest in physical illness if you don’t take care of it. Plus, it helps with any headaches you could get after crying.
6. Drink water. Hot water, cold water, room temperature water. Staying hydrated is key to keeping you physically well as you grieve.
7. Write something and shred. Send your grief out into the universe as a tangible THING. If you’re not into shredding things, then write out a long message in your notes app and trash it. It’s comforting to know that your thoughts are heard by some force of nature, and since there’s no physical trace of it, your confidentiality clause with the universe is established.
I hope this helps friends! Grief is difficult. I want you to know that it will be hard, and to be completely honoest that feeling of loss won’t ever go away. And that’s alright. However we as individuals have control over our actions, and we have control over how we interpret our feelings. I implore all of you who are grieving to look at loss with lenses of joy. Joy that you got to experience life with whatever or whoever you lost.
Till All Are One!
