Today I wanted to share one of my favorite historical figures with you.
This young man's name is Sergeant William Henry Johnson. Commonly known as Henry Johnson, he was awarded the Medal of Honor for his heroic actions on the night of May 15, 1918. While defending French lines, he saved one of his men from capture, and blocked a German raid from advancing to his French allies. Johnson became one of the first Americans to be awarded France's highest award for valor, the Croix de Guerre avec Palme.
Sgt. Johnson died in July of 1929, due to his 21 injuries sustained during the war. He's buried in Arlington National Cemetery.

*modern trench warfare being used for the first time in a major conflict during the American civil war*
*trench warfare leaving mental scars on Alfred that takes years of healing to move past*
Alfred showing up to Europe and seeing they somehow made trench warfare worse
#He saw that shit and decided real quick he'd rather be shot out of the sky#trench warfare actually can be found throughout history but was reading a book the other week that talked about how#the roots of how it was used in WW1 and then WW2 could be traced back to how it was used during the US's civil war#hws america#historical hetalia#hetalia#hws#aph#alfred f jones#aph america#hws england#hws canada#hws france#hws germany#hws italy#hws russia#hws china#hetalia ww2#hetalia ww1

You know I've been recently been studying the Holocaust and Hitler's rise to power. And I'm sure someone seen it but we all know about the "Big Lie" right?
The Big Lie was were Germany felt they didn't truly lose WW1 and they felt cheated out of it. The economy fell into a depression, soldiers returning home felt they had all done it for nothing and the Weimer Government (despite being progressive) was very weak.
This sowed a lot of discontent and of course, desperate people turn to leaders with promises. Especially a leader using pre established antisemitism and blaming that people for their problems to justify their own abhorrent dictatorship built upon eugenics and racial superiority. Even that I don't think can truly define what that sick son of a bitch did.
And we all know how Trump denied that he had lost the election. Yes, it happened four years ago and we all know about the Jan 6th Insurrection. His followers even believe it and ever since then, even now he is still denying that he lost. And Trump continually uses immigrants as a scapegoat for the problems of America.
I just have a bad feeling about it.
The parallels are unsettling...

I LOVED all quiet on the western front and this part reminded me of Philip
This (tiktok) sound Red Tears by The Johns helps SA survivors. Every time it is used, money gets donated to SA survivors. As someone who's gotten SAd for years by a family member, NOT using this sound does NOT make you a "bad person". Although it is highly appreciated, forcing/guilt tripping people into using the sound is NOT it. SA is more or so often traumatizing, the donations to survivors provide help and support.
Thank you

I saw a post that said the rest of the world is protesting for America right now, and I don’t know if I’m being lied to or if it’s American censorship, but i havent seen anything about that. But just hearing that made my eyes well up a bit, I’m glad everyone else sees it.

New rule for Anglos: you are not allowed to talk about the French Revolution if you don't spend at least three minutes on the wikipedia article "War of the first coalition"
#sick of people talking in Tumblr language about historical events#''The french revolution failed because of callout culture and no one wanted to work at the commune and also it was too bourgeois''#Literally every single nation involved in WW1 but for America deciding to invade France at once never seems to be something#that enters people's mind. ''it was the guillotine!'' say USIans that still practice capital punishment and whose cops kill in the thousands#you guys got 9/11'd once and 2½ decades of hysteria have followed. imagine the hysteria you'd feel if Mexico Canada & the Carribean attacked#you think your ''Democracy'' would refrain from blood in the streets? from paranoia? from partisan politics becoming blood feuds ?#but somehow it's because of human nature and the revolution being mean to priests and congressmen and Marie-Antoinette. Puh-lease#the entire terror is 35 000 dead. 35 000 too many. the war of the first coalition killed 800 000 on both sides#think for a minute as to why you were aware of the horrors of the terror but not of 800k dead in a doomed war to stop the revolution

i do think it's kinda interesting how similar the early 20th and early 21st century are. like there was a few years of sudden mass death (ww1 & covid respectively ) and afterwards a few years of intense hedonism and a desire for things to "go back to normal". but things never got "back to normal". instead everything Got Worse. you understand.
#emyrs.txt#not very well articulated + thought out. obviously there're more similarities but i mention this one specifically bc i'm reading about#post ww1 america and the phrase “after ww1 everyone wanted to go back to normal” keeps being repeated and that desire is what led to the#second wave of the kkk and race riots across the u.s. and strikes and general civil unrest and well.#waves hand.
