how are we feeling about geshu lin’s situation now that we know that the story established the existence of threnodian resonators?

for him to be a threnodian resonator does go directly against the core values he holds (if jiyan’s hallucinations are to be believed)—his unyielding desire to distinguish the lament, no matter the cost

however

i staunchly believe that geshu lin will be playable—it’s only a matter of time. the only other NPC’s who have been integrated with the same level of effort are the fracsidus members, who are also anticipated to eventually be playable

his conversation with jiyan primarily served to deepen our understanding of jiyan—his past with ovathrax served to tell us about him

ovathrax is inherently a part of his story. geshu lin is thought to be dead. if he isn’t, there needs to be a powerful reason we haven’t yet formally been introduced to in the lore.

that powerful reason might just be revealed very, very soon.

now—depending on how the story in rinascita goes, i could be disproven for this next part pretty quickly. but, you know who else was also proclaimed to have died?

cartethyia—formerly known as the blessed maiden, fleurdelys.

a woman who:

1.) by all known accounts, is supposed to be dead

2.) is said to have martyred herself for the sake of pushing back a waveworn phenomena emergency

sound familiar? it should.

the possibility that cartethyia was never the blessed maiden and was always the threnodian resonator is proclaimed by fenrico, and we haven’t been given a reason to trust his beliefs due to the inherent corruption of the order. he stands to gain from the claim that she was always a threnodian resonator.

given fenrico’s unreliability—there presents a real possibility that cartethyia was the blessed maiden, and became a threnodian resonator while, or after, she martyred herself.

while the truth of her situation is not yet known—it currently bears a striking resemblance to geshu lin’s situation.

for a blessed maiden of the order to have become a threnodian resonator—there must be a reason behind it. there’s a very real chance that the same reason might also be applicable to a war-hardened general. a reason that tests the core values of two lives that were spent opposed to the lament.

all of this to say, geshu lin’s circumstances line up so perfectly with cartethyia’s—since cartethyia is supposed to be our introduction to threnodian resonators, it definitely is raising some questions.

you have to admit, it’s extremely suspicious that we are introduced to the concept of threnodian resonators in rinascita, rather than huanglong—even though that first story quest revolved around ovathrax.

but that would eventually make sense in the long run if we happened to be introduced to the threnodian resonator—and we just hadn’t known it yet.

if we are meant to believe that threnodians and sentinels are of the same level of power—there stands the real possibility that threnodians can bring the dead back to life, just as jué did with jinshi. perhaps for a threnodian resonator, dying is a prerequisite. geshu lin is also our only major deceased character from huanglong—and the only only who lacks clarity about their place lore-wise.

anyway—that’s just my speculation for now. i believe geshu lin will be reintroduced to the story—and this is currently the most plausible way to explain why he might be alive—based on the information that’s available to us right now.

so, really, depending on how cartethyia’s story plays out, it’ll probably make or break this theory.
