@lara-legomonkiekid
(Y/N male monkey)
My idea would be, What if Monkey King was walking he doesn't realize he's in another territory and ends up falling into a trap, then Y/N(♂️) appears hanging from a tree asking who he is and what would he be doing in his territory.
Oh Hot jungle man🥵🥵🥵
Tumblr media
(Lmk Wukong) He did not know home this happen. One moment he was exploring a new island he came across on one if his maps. Now the moment he's been caught in a trap by a giant, Muscular, scar....cover lion's main based fur who was less then pleased for him to be in his territory.
Monkey (M/N) WHO ARE YOU WHAT ARE YOU DOING IN MY TERRITORY🤬🤬🤬
Wukong:😳😳😳......🤤🤤🤤.....🥵🥵🥵
You know what they say What is a king to a god
Tumblr media
(NR Wukong) He wasn't paying attention to much to where he was going. He probably should have because now he seems to be tied up. And there was an incredibly hot hunky monkey glaring down at him with such intent.
Monkey (M/N): Who are you and what are you doing in my territory
Normally this is a no thoughts head empty moment, but there was only one thought that ran in Wukong's head that whole time
Wukong: Ho.........ly😳 Shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤
Tumblr media
(HIB Wukong) He's unsure how to feel about any of this. He was trying to find Liuer When he got tricked into playing hide and seek with But now he's trapped by another angry but attractive looking monkey Who was very territorial apparently.
Monkey (M/N) What are you doing in my territory
Wukong Is in a state of shock and he can't really answer because of the show. Breathing on the blush on his face.
Monkey (M/N) And is this human cub yours???
You pulled out Liuer whom run into you when he was trying to find a Place to hide. He gave you sad eyes But you'd never responded to it.
Tumblr media
(Mk Reborn Wukong) You two were glaring into each other's souls. One was glaring because he was caught in the trap and the other was past. Because the of the invasion of territory. Wukong Couldn't even fight back The blush on his face when the much bigger monkey was glaring at him demanding He was as territory in the first place. Wukong Is a f*cking king he doesn't need to answer to you. But what he doesn't know was that you're a fucking god And you're going to make him realize that one way or another
Tumblr media
(Netflix Wukong) You were actually laughing at him. Here you thought it was an enemy in your territory but no. It was a cute little monkey Baby monkey boy who is nervous so you're looking at you In the trap you set up. He was so freaking cute that you I didn't even have it And you to be mad at him if anything. This cute little anxious baby made You wanna keep him for as long as you could. You released them from his trap and pulled them into your chest. Wukong Than notice how big, muscular and strong you are Youth and his mind wandered into not so innocent thoughts. If this is the beginning to a very interesting Relationship.

YO may i have some hc about wukong and mac having an so whos a good fighter but is also hella clumsy? :P
Of course! I'll do my best! For this, I used a Fem!S/O! These are a... wee bit graphic violence, but just a little.
Wukong
-When he first met you, it was because MK was wanting to introduce him to Tang's cousin (who acted like an aunt to MK).
-Imagine Wukong's surprise when MK pulls him to an underground fighting arena and points to a woman throwing fucking hands in the ring, matching punch after punch with a man three times her body mass.
-"That's auntie!" The boy had told him, pointing to you just as you slammed your boxing gloves against the opposing man's jaw, flinging his body against one of the four quadrant poles. "Isn't she cool?!"
-...Wukong was a little scared of you to be quite honest, no matter what MK said- you just seemed like a scary woman! (It was baffling that you were related to Tang of all people.)
-Then MK pulled him into the waiting room and called out your name while he pulled at his mentor's sleeve, and you perked up from your water bottle and brighten considerably when your eyes catch MK. You stand and move to walk towards him-
-only to trip over your own feet and slam your face into one of the metal seats, breaking your nose.
-It was really hard to fear you when you were that clumsy outside a fight.
-Given something to hold? Uh oh, butter fingers!
-Trying to get from point A to point B? You trip over your own feet upon taking the first step.
-Trying to eat with chopsticks? Good luck.
-Wukong found it genuinely difficult to fear or be wary you due to your overwhelming clumsiness, but the one time he saw it fail to appear is one he won't forget.
-MK had been fighting a demon that was playing tricks and being an asshole, and almost broke the poor boy's ankle, and you threw yourself into the fight and started wailing on the opposing demon with your lips curled in rage and eyes mere pinpricks.
-Wukong took care of MK with the others, but he was openly gaping at seeing you grab the demon's arm and just start slamming him down on the ground from side to side as if he was a goddamn children's toy.
-You finished it by smashing your fist against the demon's jaw and breaking it, the sick crunching of bone echoing through the air as the demon's body is thrown back against the wall, slumping pathetically as you stand across from him, breathing heavily with blood and bruises coating your knuckles.
-Wukong found that so absurdly attractive that it wasn't even funny.
-Then your personality flipped on a dime, and you turned to rush towards MK only to trip on a stray rock and faceplant.
-...Yeah, Wukong was in love.
-And if he asked you on a date the following week, with your favorite flowers and a box of chocolates and looking so damn nervous, you didn't mind.
-And if you just so happened to say yes to his proposal of dating, well, that's business between the two of you.
-(Except not really, because god forbid secrets be kept when you're dating the Stone Monkey himself, and the 'aunt figure' to the main crew.)
~~~~~~~~
Macaque
-The first time Macaque met you was when he stole food from your house, and it was only thanks to his sensitive ears and the whispers of the shadows that he managed to dodge your punch that shattered your counter like glass, your eyes glowing softly in the dark and a scowl curled on your lips.
-You kept trying to wail punches on the monkey demon, narrowly missing since he was just a little bit faster (well, a lot faster, but he was curious about you), and he only managed to slip away unharmed and with plenty of food when you slipped on the rug and tumbled to the floor.
-Macaque had a good laugh about that for days.
-Somehow, you ended up amusing him, and anytime he needed (or, well, wanted) food, he would just shadow-port to your home and steal it, making sure that you were home when he did it just to piss you off more.
-He honestly just wanted to see you trip on something stupid again, the bastard.
-But weeks of this same schedule, this same song and dance weighed on you, and you just decided 'fuck it' and didn't even attempt to fight the invading monkey demon anymore, merely rolling your eyes whenever he attempted to catch your attention.
-...Didn't mean you still didn't trip around your own goddamn house like a newborn fawn just learning to use its legs.
-Except you were an adult, and this is embarrassing.
-Anytime you'd see- or, god forbid, hear- him laugh at you, you'd flush red and grab the nearest object to throw at him, uncaring of its value or how breakable it is- you just wanted one clean fucking shot on that bastard monkey dammit!
-It wasn't your fault you were clumsy! It was your stupid body's fault! You were lucky to train the clumsiness out of your fights, but it seems like anytime other than that its 'Let's fuck up this dumb bitch's day and make her look like a failure' day.
-...You had insecurities, so what? You're an adult, you're allowed them.
-Months after meeting Macaque- and practically letting him crash at your place, because he's like a stray cat at this point and you're too tired to kick him out- you find him fighting some imp demon, and while he didn't look in trouble, Macaque was holding his side, crimson leaking through his fingers.
-You threw yourself at the demon as quick as a lightning strike, and tussle with the creature, slamming your fist against its upper stomach and crunching its ribs, and sending an twirled axel kick to the side of its head before grabbing Macaque and running towards your apartment while the demon was down and dazed.
-Once inside, you almost tripped again but managed not to (huge success on your part) and push Macaque to sit on the couch while you riffle around the bathroom for your first aid kid. Who cares if Macaque is a demon that heals quickly? You're going to bandage him up weither he likes it or not dammit!
-You wrap the cloth around his wound- pointedly ignoring looking anywhere else- and spit curses both at him and the demon, your words lacking any real bite (well, bite towards Macaque), but the shadow monkey is just silent, his tail swaying gently behind him- the motion slow. Thoughtful.
-Somehow, that event of beating up a demon for him and bandaging him up just made Macaque move into your house, and now you're not only rooming with the monkey demon, but dating him.
-Yeah, you have no idea how this happened either.
I'm excited to get into the post I'm going to drop as I finish it, take a while, but the next major information post isn't a character exploration... But, design concepts! The four main designs for the characters throughout the Revver era of the Ripper Inc story. But as I put that on the back burner, this post is about mythology and the international branches. It's not going to be that detailed. Just kind of a teaser for some of the stuff going on with them and some of the conceptual ideas, and some of the crossover elements of the universe.
For those who are just seeing this, the main concept of Ripper Inc in this giant crossover fanfic sandbox is a company that reforms monsters and serial killers, or even just gives people a job. Austin time they hunt down other serial killers and monsters, but sometimes they're hired security, birthday party attractions, etc. They're technically morally good, they'll do anything they're paid to do, but a lot of them do have very questionable backgrounds and needed the mental help program offers. Of course, most of the following examples don't fit that criteria, as they were approached due to already being morally all right, most of them at least. The main idea of the organization is to rehabilitate killers and monsters by turning their violent tendencies on to other killers and monsters all while giving them psychological help they need.
But, before we get into the lot of their members, I think we should introduce....
BRANCH DIRECTORS (PART 1)!
Because this whole postal focus on just the briefest summary of the directors.
Mary-San!
Starting with Japan's very Phone Call From Mary. This is one that's very much done for both the colony of it and because of the terrifying practicality. For those unfamiliar with the urban legend, Mary-San, or Phone Call From Mary is a Japanese ghost story about a haunted doll and phone challenge rolled into one. As per the legend, if you call her first you will get a series of phone calls from Mary-San, each one her announcing herself in a location you had recently been to until finally It All leads up to "Hi, this is Mary-San, I'm calling from behind you." Her height may make her a comedic choice for a largely yokai branch, but she is the perfect tracker, equipped with only a phone call she is a master strategist and can locate anyone.
I am also very much playing with the backstory of her mythology, with the very reason she originally joined Ripper Inc being the promise of finding her original owner, who by the point she enters the story is already a very old woman. By the time the promise is fulfilled, it's a visit to the grave of the woman, with the rest of her branch and her own boss there to comfort and support her.
Sun Wukong!
Also hailing from Asia comes the Chinese branch director, The Monkey King himself. I'm not going to get into how I'm handling gods and all that in this post, but I will say that I'm leaving him very much the trickster gremlin that he is. In fact, inspired by a friend's Fate portrayal, I've elected not to give him a set design outside his origins. Wukong instead will shift and use the designs of adaptations and depictions of him, or characters inspired from him. Meaning he could look anything like Lego Wukong to Son Goku.
The Victorious Fighting Buddha's reason for joining repairing is a mixture of responsibility calling to him and the simple fact that he finds the concept and idea to be absolutely fun, the idea of HIM being the leader of a company branch is hilarious. How could he say no? It is an evolution of some of his themes, he may still be a trickster, but knowing their ultimate mission he takes the job rather seriously, often he can't help but recall The Journey To The West when working with his crew.
Annora Petrova!
For the Russian Branch director, I know a lot of you old school Creepypasta fans might recognize this name, she is an underrated classic. I say Russian branch, however they do more cover the collection of countries around that area (minus China). I do have an explanation for why she's around, given I actually haven't rewritten anything about her story!
In this reinterpretation she has become the Slavic spirit of folklore... A Rusulka, this is due to a character I won't spoil editing her wiki and once more altering the course of her story. She's now come to be the director for this large branch of Ripper ink and works closely with / shares resources with Wukong. Everyday she has the temptation to check her wiki, to see what it has to say about her. To see what isn't about her newfound fame.
Brianna Grianne!
Hopping on over to Ireland, we meet the first OC director! Brianna is a fey, one that outright goes against the will of her people and instead uses her fae powers to aid and give people what they need. It's very notable in her wording, never does directly ask for something, avoiding fae deals.
She much rather live and be part of the human world than amongst her less benevolent kin, finding the world of mankind to be much more intriguing and hospitable.
Nero Claudius!
Who better to lead the Roma- Italian branch than this resurrected Roman Emperor? They were all seriousness, it is very much they're fully resurrected Nero's way of still serving and protecting her country, finding herself having to figure her life out after the events of Point Breaker's closing act.
She's very much the same Red Saber we all know and love, however, she is a composite variant, and very much a living Nero, so she's got quite the legs up on her Fate canon counterpart.
Cameron Bryce!
I haven't tagged this SCP for nothing! Turning our attention over to Scotland, I introduced the next OC director, Cameron Bryce, a former Global Occult Legion squad leader.
After a cold winter night in his youth his life was forever changed, finding himself scooped up by the GOC to hunt down anomalies with deadly precision... But ultimately he hated the job and jumped at the offer for the directoral position. Working with and meeting people who will actually see tomorrow, with more competency, and power, than his GOC squad. He's generally really chill, one of the most laid-back people you'll ever meet.
Camille Noemie!
The French director, and Dame Blanche (White Lady), she's very much a spectral figure trying to do her best for her community, alongside other legends from france, and their few serial killers capable of joining, they're one of the smaller branches, but they make do!
Camille is a very friendly woman, merely using her afterlife to help her community and work through her regrets from life. She's merely trying her best, and she'll do everything in her power to help.
Now, stay tuned for part two tomorrow, featuring the directors for the branches in Canada, Germany, Britain, Korea, Australia, and more!
Post Journey to the West (CMS) (1988) 后西游记
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Producer: Wang Wei-Chiang Starring: Ke Wei-Chia
Gene: Fantasy
Country/Region of Manufacture: Taiwan
Language: Mandarin Date: 1988 Number of Seasons: 1 Episodes: N/A
Also known as: Hou Xi You Ji / 後西遊記
Type: Reimagining
Summary:
Wang Weijiang, who had produced and broadcast the series "Chinese Myths and Stories" in CTV for five years, has now moved his position to CTV and continues to produce "Post-West Journey", the sequel to the popular "Journey to the West" broadcast on CTV. Launched on August 13, the time slot is every Saturday from 5:30pm to 7:00pm.
Wang Weijiang, the producer of "Post-Journey to the West", believes that the long-term production and broadcast of Chinese myths and stories is due to the use of well-known stories and characters. By chance, I was lucky enough to find the out-of-print rare early Qing woodcut "Journey to the West", hoping that the sequel of "Journey to the West" can arouse the audience's interest again.
The characters in "Post-Journey to the West" are depicted vividly and vividly, and the development of the plot is unconstrained, which can satisfy people's fantasy, but it also has the meaning of punishing evil and promoting good, and persuading the world to warn the world.
 Zhu Bajie (played by Wang Dezhi) and Sun Wukong (played by Zhang Guangyun) in "Journey to the West" of China Television also followed Wang Weijiang to China Television, and they all continued their original roles. Many of the main actors in "Post-Journey to the West" are from CTV and TTV. Among them, Wang Dezhi performed across the stage. After some communication between CTV and CTV, the trip was made possible.
"Post Journey to the West" mainly describes that Xuanzang and Wukong, who have become Buddhas, chose Tang Banyai, a monk who went to the mortal world, as the candidate for the true interpretation of "The Commentary on the True Scripture". He invited three disciples to follow him, including Sun Luzhen, the little sage of Qitian, Zhu Yijie, a descendant of Zhu Bajie, and Sha Mi, a descendant of Sha Wujing, all went to the West to learn scriptures.
The golden hoop curse originally set on Wukong's head also appeared on Little Sage's head. Banjie and his party fight monsters along the way, and finally bring back the true understanding. Banjie's master and apprentice are the same as the "Journey to the West" group, so they go to heaven and become Buddhas.
Tang Banyu, a Chaozhou monk, is played by Ge Weijia of CTV; Zhu Yijie is played by newcomer Ren Chongwei, who is a descendant of the "improved" Zhu Bajie, also known as Zhu Shouzhuo, who has the lazy habit of Zhu Bajie, but has big pig ears Both the monkey nose and the pig's nose have degenerated; Monkey King, Sun Luzhen is played by Long Chuanren; Sha Wujing's descendant novice, also known as Sha Zhihe, is played by Sun Shupei.
"Post-West Journey" was launched during the summer vacation, just to attract children who are currently on summer vacation
Joestar Reader Misadventures: Sun Wukong
...You can say is my own practice/basis for what I have in mind sometime in the future. That and plus the Sun Wukong tag is getting invaded by yanderes. (Yandere isn't my thing btw.) For any Jojo fans reading this, all Jojo characters live in the same universe and the main JoJos are your siblings: you being the oldest. Sun Wukong for this isn't the RWBY blonde himbo.
It's the inspiration for said character and many other characters in other franchises. Sun Wukong, the Monkey King and one of China's various deities. I'll be using the Nezha Reborn incarnation. You don't need to watch Nezha Reborn for this! Enjoy! Can be read as gender neutral or preferred gender.
(This bloke right here! 👇)
Tumblr media
You really don't know how you ended up in this situation: Having a Chinese God live in your house.
Quick recap. You went to China on a little business trip courtesy of your younger brother Joseph.
You were a good Samaritan so when you saw a bunch of thugs surrounding someone, of course you were gonna intervene.
None of them were Stand Users so your Stand, Starset, easily took em out. The person, who you noticed was wearing an odd mask, didn't seem aware...AT FIRST GLANCE.
It was only when you returned home to Italy and found the man you had saved in your house with a bunch of little monkeys did you freak out.
Of course you brought out Starset ready to defend yourself until the masked man explained who he was.
That he was Sun Wukong, the Monkey King and you had accidentally did a favor for him. And thanks to personal reasons, he can't leave until he pays you back.
Like any common person, you protested but he was quick to prove said point when the man(?) held a paper to your face.
The golden Chinese text, royal crests and your name written in your style of handwriting that looked to be glowing being proof enough. And thus you were stuck with the Monkey King.
It wasn't all bad but boy was Sun Wukong and his little monkeys were mischievous characters of their own!
None of them cared about personal boundaries for one. You had caught Sun-Sun (the nickname he chose once he found out your family shared Jojo as a nickname) in your room on multiple occasions.
Whether he was looking through your family photo album, trying on your clothes or playing your Switch, you always caught him red-handed.
The monkeys weren't that bad but you often came back to your secret snack stash being empty or a bunch of Sun-Sun's furry minions asleep in your bed. You locked your dresser when you found one monkey in your underwear drawer once.
All of them were also gluttons. Getting an extra refrigerator was practically required alongside a crate of peaches to keep Sun-Sun or his monkeys satisfied and not stealing food from your neighbors.
Sun-Sun had a habit of following you whenever you had to leave the house. Either walking the streets next to you or have one of his monkeys follow in his place. He heard that Stand Users attracted other Stand Users so thought the extra protection would be needed.
Sun-Sun always wore his mask even around you or so you never saw his face. You did see his monkey traits such as the thick brown fur and prehensile feet when he walked around in his PJs. On rarer occasions did you see his tail.
You weren't going to say anything about his face. It was his choice if he would show you or not and you will always respect that decision.
The arrangement did have some upsides. You weren't living in a big house all alone and the spare rooms were being used.
All of them helped out in their own way. The monkeys assisted with the chores and Sun-Sun paid some of the bills.
The Monkey King also offered to train you, both in martial arts and fighting with your Stand in unprecedented ways.
Getting throttled by the man in his PJs in a test fight was a bit embarrassing but Sun-Sun proudly admit you lasted longer than his previous student.
Speaking of your Stand, neither the god nor his minions lost any curiosity in Starset.
For the monkeys, their interest was child-like. They often like to play games with Starset, spontaneous Catch being a personal favorite. A monkey's aim, especially a magical one, could easily put any pro pitcher to shame.
You honestly had no way to describe Sun-Sun's curiosity. He could switch from sparring with Starset to tickling the Stand, and also getting you via psychic feedback, into submission without warning.
Despite driving you crazy sometimes, you did enjoy their company. Whether it was laughing at bad movies, Mario Kart mondays, illegal road races or a pile of monkeys sneaking into your bed at night, you never took it for granted.
Now explaining to your family about being a host to a Chinese God was a whole other can of worms in itself.
And that's it. If anyone is curious about what Starset looks like, it's basically the OVA version of Star Platinum. Just like OVA Star Platinum, Starset has the same abilities including Time Stop.
Tumblr media
Just like my Jotaro Kujo imagine, I have something similar planned for this. Starset will have their own design as well later down the road but not for these. Until next time folks, have a good day!
Edit: I wrote this at the asscrack of 6:00 in the morning so I forgot somethings. Reader did not sign that contract. It is a magical signature. Those thugs Reader dispatched has actual importance which will be explained later down the line. They aren't dangerous but are connected to something much bigger.
Monkie Kid is honestly pretty neat for a show based on a Lego product- it takes place in a futuristic setting where Chinese mythology turned out to be real. The Monkey King (voiced by the same voice actor as Goku) has chosen to retire so he can just relax for the rest of eternity, passing on his powers and the responsibility they carry to a twenty-something noodle delivery boy.
MK is actually a really great dude, to the point of being willing to forgive his enemies, though he has a lot of trouble controlling his powers at first. He’s got a ton of friends he’s always ready to help out, all of which are inspired by other characters from Journey to the West. There’s Mei, the maybe-human descendant of the White Dragon Horse who the original Tang Sanzang rode; Pigsy, a work-obsessed anthropomorphic pig noodle shop owner MK works for (and very well may be the reincarnation of Zhu Baije); Tang, a cheapskate scholar of the legends of the Monkey King and the only character who can’t fight; and Sandy, a former soldier who fought alongside Pigsy and was infamous for his rage and brutality, but who has since found peace and tranquility through tea, yoga, an army of cats, and buddhism. Sandy even has blue skin, a mohawk, a massive mala, and he works and lives out of a cargo ship. Honestly, aside from Mei and MK (who are the heirs to the White Dragon Horse and Sun Wukong respectively,and thus their own people), the other characters are fairly faithful reimaginings of the Monkey King’s companions as they would exist in modern day, let alone a mildly sci-fi setting.
Honestly, the animation is also really good- the characters are all lego figures, but the camera angles, the expressions, the movements... not to mention the world itself looks like an actual world, and not just lego sets, aside from the vehicles. In the pilot episode, MK even pulls out a generic smartphone, and its design is surprisingly detailed- it’s covered in cracks and scratches, and the screen is even warped a little. Red Son, the child of Princess Iron Fan and the Demon Bull King, has fire-based abilities, and the flames he produces are gorgeous, even with how intimidating he is.
The writing is also pretty great; season 1 is mostly just stereotypical “young Hero learns life lessons and to control his powers better”, but they’re not afraid to get dark when need be- villains will actually threaten to kill the protagonists, and by season 2, the greater-scope villain has all but won.
Heck, the main character’s best friend Mei is an attractive (by the standards of the setting; remember, lego figures) girl who’s the same age as him, is insanely rich, and they regularly spend a ton of time together at night both out in public and in MK’s apartment. But in spite of that and the arguably higher intended audience age compared to a lot of Lego series, MK and Mei aren’t a couple, and have zero romantic interest in one another. They’re just two adults of opposite gender who are super great friends and nothing more, something of a rarity in modern television. Even the Lego Movie had Emmet and Wyld Style become a couple.
The pilot itself is actually really great- it features action sequences, crazy special effects, a car chase where MK’s work vehicle breaks down and he steals a hoverboard to escape, then gets rescued by Mei on her stupidly expensive motorcycle when that breaks. Princess Iron Fan even nearly murders MK, and MK’s friends all genuinely believe he’s dead for a bit, seeking to continue on to honor his memory; the guy only survives because Sun Wukong personally saves him. And the final battle has MK summon up a mountain-sized mecha to personally beat the Demon Bull King into the dust.
And on top of all the Chinese Mythology, there’s also a lot of Lego gags. In the pilot alone, Red Son pulls out an instruction booklet for the vehicle he was driving’s kit, while MK literally drives a small plane saying, “How hard can it be? It says it’s for ages eight and up.”
In summary: just watch it. It’s great, and, much like ROTMNT (which was made by the same studio!), I don’t see many people talking about it.
do you have any semblance ideas for Starr? i just love the way you design her :))
Firstly—Aww thank you! 💕💕 I appreciate it! I can’t wait to see how she’ll look in the show proper though. Crwby’s character designs are generally pretty good, especially for the main characters. I’d love it if they gave her some visual connection to Sun (i.e. in the way that Ruby takes some inspiration from both Summer and Qrow, Weiss with Winter, and Yang from Taiyang). That’d be neat to see ✨🥺✨
Semblance ideas for Starr, huh? That’s a bit of a tough one since, y’know, we know such little about her. However, I do have at least one or two that have been swimming around in my head for a while, but whether they’ll hold any weight in future canon is anyone’s guess. Also, I’ll say right now, this explanation turned out to be longer than expected, so apologies if you’re looking for short and sweet 😅
So, like Sun’s semblance ‘Via Sun’, in that it pays homage to the Journey to the West’s Sun Wukong’s power of making clones from strand of his hair, I imagine Starr’s semblance could pay some homage or be inspired by the character she’s based off—i.e. Tang Sanzang/Xuanzang.
While Tang Sanzang is the main protagonist in a traditional sense—his quest is the main motivator for the party; he’s literally the chosen protags of chosen protags, given his background (i.e. guy is literally Moses’d down a river by his mother, is the sworn-brother of the Emperor, AND is the reincarnation of Buddha’s disciple, Golden Cicada)—he’s pretty useless. He doesn’t have any cool/flashy powers like Wukong, nor can he put up a fight like his other two disciples, Pigsy and Sandy. Even his horse, who’s a dragon btw, has more bite to him and he doesn’t even really do anything lol. Plus, Sanzang is kidnapped pretty frequently. This is because as the reincarnation of Golden Cicada, it is assumed that his flesh will bring any one who consumes it immortality. Which y’know, is very enticing for demons… which brings me to my first semblance idea.
To play on the idea of RWBY’s tendency to flip the idea/characterisation of lore some of their characters are based off on its head, I think it’d be neat if her semblance allowed to her act as like some lure to Grimm.
In the RWBY novels (I think it’s Before the Dawn, specifically), we find out that not only are Grimm attracted to negative emotions, but they are attracted to aura if there is a huge amass/output of it. Basically, I imagine a possible semblance for Starr would be that she could gather and release a great outburst of aura, drawing Grimm towards her. It could be used in a pinch if an ally was being overwhelmed by Grimm and needed an out, and considering it’s implied that not a whole lot of people in her tribe/clan could fight or weren’t strong like her and Sun, it’d make for a handy semblance in times of urgency. Imagine…the ability to keep any nearby Grimm’s attention to a single person in order to allow others to get away could save a lot of lives.
Also, visually, I imagine she’d glow super bright with aura too. Y’know, like a star, which would be a cute connection to her namesake 🌟
The only major draw back would be the amount of aura her semblance would use, so I imagine she can only use it in short bursts so as not to completely drain her aura reserves/break her aura. She could also be like Jaune, in which she has a great deal of aura in reserve so as to allow her a bit of leniency in how many times she can activate it before affecting her aura significantly, but I have a feeling that’s a rare trait in aura/semblance users, so maybe not? Regardless, I imagine she’d use her semblance sparingly, only activating it as a last resort.
Now for the second semblance idea I have is literally just chi-blocking from Avatar: The Last Airbender, but like for semblances or aura? Not a super original semblance idea, but we already have a character who can break a person’s aura—Tyrian Callows, and another who has been able to to take a person’s semblance (or if you believe some fan theories ✨👀 block the user’s ability to use said semblance to the point where it feels like it’s gone forever)—Marcus Black, so it isn’t too much of a long shot to believe that there would be a semblance that could block someone’s aura or semblance.
Also, I know aura is described to be like a ‘forcefield’, but given it is based off the idea of chakra/chi, it’s not hard to assume there could be points on a person’s body where the flow of aura could be stemmed for a time. Or alternatively, affect a person’s ability to use their semblance for a few minutes.
There isn’t like any major lore connection (save for maybe the sutra Tang Sanzang can say that causes Wukong’s circlet to tighten and give him a massive headache), but considering Starr owns a dojo; that she raised Sun and likely mentored/trained him; and knowing that Sun favours an up and close fighting style, we can assume she fights similarly to him. By getting up in her opponent’s personal space, she could hit certain spots on their body, rendering either their aura or semblance useless for a brief amount of time (maybe a minute, or a few minutes at most) in order to give her advantage in a fight.
From a visual standpoint, I’d like to think her hands would glow with her aura before she jabs someone in their aura pressure point. Maybe her eyes might glow too?
Anyway, that’s all I’ve really considered for possible semblances for Starr. I hope you like them ✨😅✨ Do you have any for her? I’d love to hear them if you do! ✨🥰✨
The Monkey King vs the Budha
Tumblr media
Gojou and Toji are rivals and complete opposites in everything, even in the mythological stories that both of their characters reference. Toji referencing Sun Wukong (the Monkey King) and Gojou representing the Budha himself. I’ll be going over the mythological references in their characters under the cut.
1. Journey to the West
The journey to the west is one of china’s four great classical novels. It’s an ancient allegory for enlightenment. Though not the main character, the first seven chapters are dedicated to Sun Wukong, the monkey king, a trickster type character who made it his mission to disrupt the order of heaven. There’s a very long and simplified summary of the legend, here.
Tumblr media
There are several in story references to the legend. Toji refers to himself as a monkey for not being able to use Jujutsushiki. Toji, much like Sun Wukong is an exile from the heavenly order. In this setting, the analog for heavenly order or the keepers of the peace is Shaman Society as a whole and the four great noble families system.
Toji is the strongest possible a human can get without using Jujutsu Sorcery. If Getou refers to all humans who aren’t sorcerers as monkeys, that makes Toji symbolically king of the monkeys. Son Wukong possessed an immortal body. Toji is brought back from the dead because the special quality of his body won out against the soul when it was transformed.
Tumblr media
Toji also ends up using a bo staff to fight that extends or compresses based on whether or not the four pieces connected by chains are together. Sun Wukong’s most famous and iconic weapon was a staff that could change size.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The staff itself is called ‘playful cloud’, Sun Wukong is also famous for flying on top of a cloud.
Gojou is symbolically the Budha for a separate reason, first he’s a character who revolves around the idea of attaining personal enlightenment. He quotes the Budha himself.
Tumblr media
In Chinese and especially Japanese Buddhism, the statement 天上天下唯我独尊 (Japanese tenjou tenge yui ga dokuson; not sure about the Chinese transliteration), which is typically translated as "On heaven and earth, I alone am honored", is considered to be a well-known statement of the Buddha, spoken when the Buddha first emerged from his mother's womb. The quote is sometimes truncated to just the latter half 唯我独尊 "I alone am honored".
This is specifically a statement that the budha first said when he emerged from his mother’s womb. Gojou is someone shown to be special from the moment he was born.
Tumblr media
In Journey to the West as a result of attaining enlightenment, the budha is one with everything. Gojo’s special ability is seeing everything, into the void because of his six eyes. His territorial expansion is essentially forcing that enlightenment on others, look at the line Jogo uses when caught up in it “I can see everything, I can feel everything!” that’s enlightenment, babeyyy!!!
Tumblr media
In Journey to the West, Sun Wukong fought against the Jade Palace and the Emperor of Heaven, until eventually the Budha was called to settle things with him.
The Budha made a wager with Sun Wukong. If he could successfully jump out of the palm of his hand then he could become the new king of heaven. Sun Wukong jumps off of his hand and makes it all the way to the edge of the universe. He sees five pillars at the end of the universe. He fights grafittis the pillar and then jumps back to the Budha. The budha reveals his hand and shows the same grafitti, as a result of attaining enlightenment the budha is one with everything in the universe therefore no matter where Sun Wukong went he would always be in the palm of his hand. The budha then defeated Sun Wukong and sealed him under a mountain.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Gojou and Toji fight for similar reasons. Toji could have made his escape but he wants to fight Gojo over his pride to prove that he’s the strongest. Gojo as a result of nearly dying against Toji in their first round, has attained enlightenment and because of that Toji can’t possibly win against him.
2. Opposites Attract
Tumblr media
Gojou and Toji are opposites always meant to oppose one another. Toji eventually became a rogue mercenary who took great pleasure in killing sorcerers to prove his family wrong about him. Gojou is someone who holds basically the entire Jujutsu World on his back and wants to raise other sorcerers to be as strong, or stronger than him. Gojou is the one groomed to be superior from childhood, Toji was made to feel inferior. Gojou uses his power selflessly, almost always making himself a tool for the sake of others. Toji is someone who acted selfishly, for the sake of money, pride, eschewing other people’s values for his own twisted ones.
However, they both have a unique understanding of one another. Toji says the first and last time anyone was aware of his presence was when he visited Gojo as a child. Gojo is defined by how untouchable he is, the last person to even put a scratch on him was Toji.
There’s actually a lot about Toji and Gojou that is similar making them poised to understand each other. Toji is also a one of a kind genius, specifically because he was born with a body that eradicates curse energy. Toji was always powerful, he was just mocked and belittled because he didn’t fit into the mold of Jujutsu society.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
They’re just geniuses, it’s just that Gojo was born to fit the mold of the ideal jujutsu sorcerer, from a family, carrying the technique of his main family, and Toji breaks that same mold.
Gojo and Toji are also two people who didn’t have to be on bad terms. Their conflict represents the families they were born into. The Gojo and the Zen’in have always been on bad terms as revealed to us recently. They’re both individuals shaped by the households they were born into, and they also carry the conflict between those two households on their shoulders.
Tumblr media
Gojo and Toji are characters who value their strength above everything else. However, Toji lives trying to deny his pride and destroy it because he hates everything the Jujutsu world values.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Toji’s referred to as the “one who threw everything away”. It’s revealed in his extras that after Megumi’s mother died, he tried to stop caring about everything which is why he distanced himself from his son.
Toji is the extreme result of Gojou’s rampant individualism, in a different way than Sukuna is. Toji is strong, but his strength never really matters. He failed to protect Megumi’s mother. He was going to sell Megumi to the clan. He only ends up all alone because of his decision to value strength above all else and throw everything away.
Tumblr media
Gojo is also someone who despite being the strongest, fails to protect others. He wasn’t able to save Geto from his breakdown. He failed to save Rika before that. For both characters even though they believe the only good thing about themselves is their strength, strength is not everything to them.
Megumi is the connecting knot that ties between them.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Toji, who is eternally bitter about other jujutsu sorcers being born with what he didn’t have, named his son blessings. Toji who tried his best to stop caring about anybody besides himself...
Tumblr media
Can’t ever deny the part of himself that loves his son. Even his attempt to sell him to the Zen’in household while grossly misguided and irresponsible, was also out of a wish that growing up in that household would be better than what a jaded and disaffected deadbeat of a dad Toji was could give him all alone after Megumi’s mother died.
Tumblr media
Toji is genuinely happy when he learns that Megumi has had a better life than he had. Which once again ties back to Gojo. Gojo and Toji are characters who live mostly for themselves, but the best parts about them are what they give to other people. Toji’s most redeeming quality was his affection for his son, and his genuine wish for Megumi to have a blessed, better life than he did. Gojo went out of his way to protect Megumi from the Zen’in family. They’re both opposite in so many ways, but Megumi is their connecting thread. Both, Gojo and Toji want to give him a better world, and a better life than the one they grew up in.
RWBY and Masculinity
I love RT’s, and specifically RWBY’s take on masculinity so much. The show subverts all expectations wrt their male characters and their development, which is why the male viewers experience major cognitive dissonance between what they expect and what story is actually being told (and then have the gall to call it bad writing). Under cut because this has gotten so long so fast.
The two main male characters - Sun and Jaune - are subvertions of genre/medium staples.
Jaune specifically hits all the beats of the typical male self-insert in a harem anime: he’s catapulted into a world he knows nothing of, instantly establishes 3 different dynamics with 3 different female characters/archetypes - Cheery, Ice Princess and Hot Tall and Earnest - one of whom he immediately sets his eyes on, he’s surrounded by women that are a whole lot more powerful than he is (and arguably THE most powerful one is instantly drawn to him), he’s essentially powerless and dealing with self-esteem issues and is nondescript enough to be a vehicle for any male viewer to project themselves onto. Which is why you have a good chunk of Jaune’s fandom from V1 being the embodiment of the Venn diagram intersection bewteen weebs and incels like That, and why there’s so much harem fanfic revolving around Jaune.
CRWBY have heavily drawn from anime when making rwby so I don’t think this was coincidental; they laid out the groundworks to subvert a specific trope. Male fans, however, bought into the facade and kept waiting for Jaune to essentially steal the spotlight, be the focal point of several love interests and get a power up that’ll let him be their own power fantasy to boot, but CRWBY took his character in the very opposite direction.
Jaune makes a lot of mistakes but what defines him is how earnestly he learns from them and redeems himself. He apologizes for lashing out at Pyrrha as a result of his own feelings of inadequacy and powerlessness when bullied by Cardin and then accepts her offer to teach him, sincerely taking instruction from her and then taking inspiration from her strength. Once he realizes his seduction skit with Weiss is not only ridiculous but wrong, he instantly changes his approach and prioritizes Weiss’s wants and needs over his, giving her space and knocking sense into Neptune so that Weiss can have her “ideal” date. Jaune doesn’t get embittered about being essentially rejected and most importantly he doesn’t let it affect his relationship with Weiss. Both of them become actual friends from that point on, and we get to see Jaune develop a certain measure of emotional intelligence starting that moment, which becomes part of his skillset and is shown to be part of what makes him a good leader. One of the best examples is how he and Ruby team up in V6E1 to get the hunter on the train to turn the turrets off. Jaune heals the hunter’s wounded arm and gently assuages his fear, in clear contrast with Qrow abrasively manhalding an injured and panicked man and expecting him to comply. The writing essentially puts down the show of arms and props up Ruby and Jaune’s approach; Jaune specifically is the example of masculine leadership the writing looks favorably on.
And that’s the kicker here: Jaune’s strength comes from his set of soft skills as opposed to traditionally portrayed masculine strength, which usually careens into toxic power fantasy land. His whole arc in V1-3 is about learning to shed any distorted notions of chivalry and strength and knowing that his end goal shouldn’t be to become a hero for the sake of it or to live up to societal expectations, but to do what he can and as good as he can for the sake of everyone. Jaune is a good strategist and he knows how to make the best out of everyone’s powers. He’s there to enhance how people use their semblances together. His big power-up, his semblance reveal is basically him getting confirmed for a cross between a cleric and a paladdin (DnD players amongst us please correct me if I’m wrong): he is the ultimate support, acting as a healer and an amplifier to everyone around him, and that’s why he’s a good leader. His power on his own loses its entire meaning: Jaune takes strength from the people he loves and endlessly, earnestly gives back to them, never once stealing the spotlight in combat because that’s not his role and that’s okay.
And as for Jaune’s romantic prospects, think Forever Fall established once and for all that Jaune’s already found the One and I don’t think we’ll see him get any other love interest, especially now that arkos parallels oz/salem and with how vehement CRWBY are about lancaster being platonic.
Now Sun. I want to tackle a specific expectation I’ve seen from male fans and that’s about him becoming more significant to the plot by coleading/leading the new White Fang movement...which would be hijacking Blake’s storyline. Blake is the one with drive and a cause, she was literally born inside the movement and has since seen it get derailed AND was the one to reclaim it from Adam and give it a new vision, as opposed to Sun who apparently wasn’t even aware of the systematic oppression Faunus had to deal with on a daily basis outside of Vacuo. So why is Sun, who has exactly 0 qualifications for this job and no interest in it, still expected to get it by a good chunk of his fans? Aside from the pervasive misogyny permeating fandom culture, there’s a specific trope media has served to us for decades now and that’s of a Semi-Competent Male Hero with his Hyper-Competent Female Side-kick (Vox published an article about it a few years ago and I really recommend checking it out), where a male character who’s semi good at best and not nearly as well-versed into whatever field he shares with his infinitely more competent female sidekick somehow walks in and saves the day and most of the time the female sidekick also, unsurprisingly doubles as a love interest. Time and again, male characters get rewarded for being half as good as their female counterpart at best AND they get the girl most often than not.
But Sun’s whole character is, again, the very opposite of this. Sun never outweighs Blake on her own narrative (as is literal common sense) and shouldn’t be expected to. Sun actually gets schooled into the Faunus cause by his more competent female counterpart, Blake acting as his mentor and introducing him to the fight and why it matters. Blake and Sun basically reenact the plotline of Journey to the West (Sun quite literally references it by calling it a “Journey to the East”) a story whose main character is the legendary monkey king Sun Wukong, who’s the mythical figure Sun’s based on. Sun’s arc about finally knowing the cause and fighting for the right reasons happens thanks to Blake’s guidance - which Sun earnestly complies with and never questions because he knows she’s the expert and he doesn’t usurp that spot from her - and never overshadows her own narrative. Quite the opposite, it builds up to her own arc as a future leading figure of the WF and face of the Faunus cause by having her politicize someone who has no real stakes in this fight even though they should have.
And then even his endeavor with Blake as a love interest falls through, with their relationship getting entirely recontextualized in V4-5 where their dynamic gets rebuilt as a friendship. Incidentally, that’s when it finally starts actually developing, instead of being stuck in the V1-3 limbo of mutual fleeting attraction where they’re constantly missing each other’s cues because they literally do not understand each other on a fundamental level. V4-5 is when Blake understands Sun isn’t what she needs in a romantic partner, but she does need him as a friend and ally. And Sun, whose premise falls in line with the Nice Guy trope, actually subverts it: he never makes Blake’s emotional journey about him, never expects anything in return and gracefully bows out of the narrative (for the time being) without ever pressuring Blake into acknowledging or returning his feelings. He doesn’t agonize over the initial attraction not going anywhere and doesn’t expect to be rewarded for being a decent person; again Blake’s feelings and well-being are his priority because that’s what good friends do. Their relationship developing into a steady friendship is never a point of conflict between them, and it’s actually lived as a positive event for both.
And then, to top it off, CRWBY parsed together every bit of toxic masculinity and wrapped it into a power fantasy package and named the end result Adam Taurus, who’s the absolute worst abusive piece of shit. Adam is every single thing bad about men as a power structure: abrasive, entitled, controlling, takes violence as an indication of power and doesn’t take kindly to his leadership/vision being questionned. It’s not really coincidental that he steals the power seat from a woman and acts like he deserves it in any way. But male fans were so starved for their power fantasy fix and traditionally masculine cool calm collected and complicated male character that they were ready to minimize/outright ignore the abuse he’s put Blake through and just how awful a human being he was just to be able to hard project onto him. And CRWBY’s answer to that is basically this:
Tumblr media
TL;DR: RT says if your masculinity isn’t humble, nurturing, supportive, compassionate, selfless and earnest then we don’t want it.
Test Failed.
http://saltwukong.tumblr.com/post/176933090316/jaune-a-canon-sue-more-likely-than-you-think
Let’s go through the list.
The central sue defeats the villain over the heads of the main characters or occupies more of their attention than they really warrant.
Plot threads and character arcs all lead back to the central sue even if they shouldn’t.
The central sue is praised for qualities that are a) not unique to them or b) not really displayed by them.
The central sue may have a smaller, lesser character become involved mainly for the purpose of antagonizing and then being triumphed over by the central sue (scary sue).
The central sue may act in a manner befitting someone much more flawed than they supposedly are, yet they are never punished or called out for it.
Hold on, let just compare this to the article found detailing the qualifications of a Mary Sue:
1) A character who is based, at least partly, on the author. 2) A character whom has no significant flaws (except possibly ones the other characters find cute). 3) A character to whom everyone within the story reacts as if they were beautiful and wonderful except characters who are clearly evil and/or motivated by jealousy. 4) A character with whom, during the course of the story, every available character of the opposite (and occasionally the same) sex will fall in love given any contact whatsoever. 5) A character who undergoes no significant growth, change, or development throughout the story.
Gee, your qualifications seem a lot more....specific than that of many people’s. is it because if we follow the logic of this line, Jaune only fulfills one, maybe two points?
Let’s go ahead and make these qualifications a bit more general:
The mary sue defeats the villain over the heads of the main protagonist
Plot threads and character arcs all revolve around the mary sue
The  mary sue is praised for qualities that are unrealistic
The  mary sue will have a character act out of character just to dislike them while being defended by the majority of the cast
The mary sue will either have no flaws, superficial flaws or flaws that no one seems to notice
I also took out that central sue bullshit because we all know you mean “Mary Sue” and “Central Sue” isn’t even a recognized term, it’s just a pseudo category made so you can fix the rules against Jaune.
Now let’s see how Jaune stacks up to the qualifications of a Mary Sue everyone agrees on.
While Jaune does not defeat Cinder, he does fight her and occupy her attention for far longer than he should over the head of Ruby Rose, who Cinder has personal beef with. When Ruby’s silver eyes activate, she is knocked out before they can fully annihilate Cinder both to keep Ruby from swiping a win out from under Jaune and to keep her from claiming more attention than him.
Jaune also draws attention from Tyrian in Volume 4 despite Tyrian being there for the explicit purpose of capturing Ruby and Jaune having displayed no special qualities Tyrian might find worthy of a second look.
I’m sorry but considering Jaune loses the fight, Cinder wasn’t being serious and the fight concludes with a loss towards Jaune, he does not fulfill any categories here. (same with Tyrian).
In fact, by your logic, Nora actually fulfills your qualification against Hazel because the same things happened with her and Hazel: She occupies his time almost as much as Ozpin and she does more against Hazel than Ozpin.
So unless you start calling Nora a Mary Sue, I’m afraid you’ve failed.
Jaune gets to angst over Pyrrha for the majority of Volumes 4 and 5 while Ruby’s own suffering is largely ignored, and when it is finally addressed, it is so Jaune can use it to say that her unwritten “silent” angsting inspires him.
i’m afraid that this doesn’t qualify Jaune for any categories either because the focus is still on Ruby.
In fact, going by your definition, Ruby is more of a Mary Sue because Yang’s issues with her mom, Oscar’s fear issues and even jaune’s angst all circle back to her whereas Jaune barely gets focus on one scene.
Once again, gonna need to label Ruby a Mary Sue before you can label him.
Jaune is largely praised as a strategist, but has displayed little to no ability to direct other people; this facet of him is displayed 3 times–once in a series of blows against the Deathstalker already in progress, once in a team match that simply showed how he can’t direct his team since they didn’t get it and he was largely ripping off Ruby, and once in a manner that causes even Ren to mock him for its obviousness, “hit it harder”. He displays no real combat intuition, while fellows like Pyrrha Nikos and Weiss Schnee display subtle cunning and resource management that he does not.
I’m afraid that is not a unique trait as you have shown and those characters do get praised for their abilities as well (even more son than Jaune) so that doesn’t work.
Conversely, that means Ruby and Pyrrha are more like Mary Sues than Jaune. Damn the list of characters who embody this these traits more than Jaune is getting pretty long. Almost like you ignore your own rules just to get at Jaune.
Scary Sue? Cardin Winchester says hello.
A. NDoesn’t work with the general guidelines.
B. That also applies to Pyrrha. Not to mention Nevermore and Torchwick for Ruby.
The grand prize among Jaune criticisms, he repeatedly fucks up or does something dickish and fails to be reprimanded for it. Cheating his way into Beacon, being a dick to Pyrrha, harassing Weiss, and starting the fight with Cinder’s faction being good examples. These very real flaws and mistakes are never treated as though they’re that serious or warrant correction.
A. Jaune criticizes HIMSELF and his team shuns him when he’s being a jerk, Weiss hates him for it and Yang criticized hum and Wiess being stabbed. So not only does this not fit the last category you had, it doesn’t even fit YOUR category.
B. Pyrrha’s obsession with Jaune never gets called out either.
Now before we leave, I’d like to keep Salt-Wukong here for a moment.
You’re a fan of SSSN, which means by extension, Neptune.
Let’s go through both our lists then.
1A. No
1B. No
2A. yep, Jaune and Weiss
2B. Yep, prom arc.
3A. Yep. Sun is also handsome but Neptune gets the glory.
3B. Yep. Unreasonably attractive.
4A. Yep. Jaune and team INDGO
4B. Yep, INDGO.
5A. Yep. his fear of water.
5B. Fear of Water and Can’t Dance so yep.
So we have a character that is actually closer to what you complain about Jaune being than Jaune himself and yet you actively SUPPORT them and demand they get more screentime, which is something that defines a Mary Sue.
So question:
Why is Neptune getting away with it and yet you need rigged rules and rigged results to bitch about Jaune?
You know, other than a blatant bias and an agenda of ‘let me abuse people.‘
omg You watched the thing XD you have to make that post some time. How nonsensical was it and was the love triangle as bad as I expected? Was the movie as bad as reviews said or do you think it was better than expected?and MOST IMPORTANTLY, because I am shameless about my attraction to this film's Erlang Shen, is Erlang #husbando material?? @dorkshadows
Wu Kong/ 悟空传 spoilers below
very nonsensical, love triangle is not there if you ignore it it’s quite easy too thankfully, agree definitely bad movie probably two stars, that said I enjoyed this two star movie a lot it was great fun and
y e s. This Erlang Shen surpasses all other erlang shens thus far. If nothing else. Watch for this movie’s mountain cleaver, shooter of suns, illustrious sage, Yang Erlang. (Before he does any of that stuff, that is. Yang Jian goes to celestial university, stops a lunchroom fistfight and meets rival, Sun Wukong. Basically.)alskdfjsl;
Mild spoilers:
This movie has very little to do with Wukong Chuan 悟空传 and its big tragedy actually. While the ending is still Tragic because of character death, Wukong survives and there looks to be hope.  The story, some spoilers present, goes something like:
Sun Wukong has a very Plot Important Stone Heart/Core of a demon that is immensely powerful so heaven Hates it. Main villain incinerates Mount Huaguo and will do it again 10/10 if they find that the Stone Heart/core is still alive. The Stone Heart is, of course, stone monkey Sun Wukong. Sun Wukong is totally motivated by his hate of fate and heaven for destroying his home. Before the story starts the Immortal Puti rescues Wukong and tells him that if he wants to avenge Mount Huaguo he needs to stop fate. To stop fate, there is a convenient metal contraption in Heaven that apparently decides how fate goes, so all he needs to do is get up there and smash it.
While he goes up to Heaven to try smash the thing, he gets caught up in a lunchroom fight where he meets all the mvp’s: Ahzhi, The Erlang Shen, Hot™  Tianpeng and Engineer Juanlian. Things happen and they all fall down to earth where they’re suddenly stranded. Without powers. At all. So these superhuman celestial beings have to fend for themselves in this cold, apocalyptic wasteland while squabbling amongst themselves. Until Heaven decides it’s Murder Time again. Some love story things happen.
PART 1 MAJOR SPOILERS:
WOW ERLANG SHEN DID YOU REALLY HAVE TO DO THAT THING WHERE YOU’RE MILD AND SOFT-SPOKEN BUT RADIATE DISCIPLINE AND POWER AND PRESTIGE, LIKE UR QUIET BECAUSE YOU’VE NOTHING TO SAY BECAUSE THERE’S NOTHING TO PROVE UR ABSOLUTE. YOU DONT WASTE BREATH YOU DONT WASTE STEPS EVERYTHING IS TO THE POINT. Even if the story doesn’t support this -GOOD, VERY GOOD ERLANG SHEN VIBES, ACTOR SHAWN YUE/余文樂/YU WENLE UR GOOD.
Anyhow, Erlang Shen’s great look and five o’clock shadow was in harmony until the Firenation Heaven attacked. (They change his look entirely for the last act and. Put. it. back. please. He changes so completely it doesn’t even feel like its the same guy hahaha which is what it was probably going for but his attractiveness level went down about 90% it was a nightmare. Return to me dork Yang Jian who lets old ladies with dementia regard him as they like. (Because shit, he’s stoic but he’s not a goddamned monster gosh.)
I will talk more on this later because I have to get up at the break of dawn tomorrow but I have more to say......
alright, so I watched the other half (more or less) of Monkey King on @vaenire‘s stream, and... and I have some more thoughts too long to add to the first post. warning for some spoilers!
to anyone who’s deeply confused, know that now I am too.
my main beef with this movie is still the shoehorned romance and baby sun wukong. to be fair, an HD widescreen shot of baby wukong is enough to gutpunch anybody.
the shoehorned romance is still shoehorned. i’m still deeply unimpressed with the ‘my tail is now curling up with your tail yep we’re attracted to one another’ scene.
still amazed that Donnie Yen voiced this character and didn’t hire a VA to do it. when the man goes all out, he goes all out.
best scenes are when wukong becomes serious
we all agree that wukong gains +10 attractiveness with clothes. I know. I know.
things I forgot to mention that were unquestionably good (to me):
like 99% of the OST is great! fittingly majestic and emotional
Chow Yun Fat (CYF)
the one not entirely fantasy-based action sequence wherein wukong beats the stuffing out of the Demon King with the Ruyi Cudgel
paraphrased quote: “Buddha your hand is fat”
berserker wukong
things that were... a little questionable (to me):
the 1% of the OST that turned from sweeping symphony orchestra to something... metal? hardcore rock? reminded me of ww’s theme from bvs
Blond King Kong. the minute prior to this reveal, I was getting excited for some Shadow of the Colossus boss fight. then this showed up and I screeched in betrayal
wukong has the chest of Donnie yen. not just the pecs. the abs and the pecs.
like. this movie takes 1) time and 2) a support group to be watchable. the first half is... quirky? like my dad watched the first three min on his own and he noped out
I cannot, in good conscience, completely disavow the movie now that I’ve seen most of it. It’s an okay movie. Like, it’s best if you’re a little bit out of it when you watch it. With friends.
Top 10 RWBY Characters That Didn’t Appear in V4 (Some Spoilers)
Hello all my wandering ants of the colony. My name is Hunter the Ant, AKA Antr here to talk about an amazing show: RWBY!!!! That's right, we're going to be taking a short look at one of Rooster Teeth's shining works and talk about the possibilities of character appearances for Volume 5 and on. But before I begin, let me put a BIG spoiler alert for those of you who might want to get into it. For those of you who haven't watched the show and didn't heed my spoiler alert, allow me give a brief summary of the show: RWBY follows the growing chronicles of Ruby Rose, a teenage girl who wields a mechanical sythe training to one day become a trained warrior called huntsman/huntress. These warriors have the duty of protecting people from any threat that may come into being. Their primary enemy are monsters known as the creatures of Grimm; black and red, nightmarish beasts whose only function is to destroy life. These beings are attracted mainly to the negativity of mankind. Disrupt the peace, and Grimm will follow. Ruby plans on following in her family's footsteps and becoming a trained protector. Along side her is the rest of team Ruby: Weiss Schnee, heiress to the Schnee Dust Company and the groups typical "spoiled" rich girl; Blake Belladonna, former White Fang member, cat faunus, and the groups dark and brooding girl; and Yang Xiao Long, the cheerful but hot headed strong woman of the group, and Ruby's paternal half-sister. Together they form the title group: RWBY. Throughout the series, Team RWBY come in contact with both friends and enemies that propel the story; such as their close allies Team JNPR, or their enemies for the first three seasons who are (unofficially) know as Team CRME (or just  Cinder's Faction if you want to include the character Neopolitan). These characters play a crucial role in the development of our main female leads, helping them grow as people, huntresses, and as team mates.   With Volume 4 having just ended and Volume 5 announced to premier sometime in Autumn, there are certainly a hand-full of characters that people want to return or know more about. Some, obviously, are more popular than others. Today, we're going to be looking through the characters that either played an important supporting role in Volumes 1-3 and didn't appear in Volume 4, or characters that were mentioned/hinted at in one of the previous volumes that could have an impact in the story for Volume 5. These are in no particular order of importance. I'm just jotting them down as I go. Let's do it! ____________________________________________ 1. Leo Lionheart Its's no secret now that pretty much every major headmaster in the series is a reference to a major character from "The Wizard of Oz." Ozpin/Oscar is The Wizard, Glenda is The Good Witch, and Ironwood is The Tinman. Now, at the end of volume 4 we are introduced to the new headmaster of Haven Academy; the man we will be following and who will be helping our heroes for the duration of volume 5, Leo Lionheart. If his name isn't an obvious enough tip-off on who he's based off of, the fact that he's un-courageously sold out his school and the people of Mistral to Salem's lacky Watts should give you a clue (He's the cowardly lion guys). Ruby fans have been wondering about the other headmasters ever since the introduction to Ironwood back in Volume 2. Leo was actually first mentioned by name by Ironwood himself, however that wasn't until Chapter 11 of Volume 4. He was briefly mention by Qrow in "A Much Needed Talk," saying that they hadn't heard from him in a while; even before the attack on Beacon. While what we know on him is slim, what we do know doesn't paint him off as a very trustworthy ally. As stated before he has connection with Salem, and most likely will sellout information to save his own skin. BUUUT, knowing how the Cowardly Lion is in "The Wizard of Oz," hopefully he'll have a turning point in his character arc and gain the much needed bravery people expect from him. 2. Winter Schnee Winter Schnee is the elder sibling to both Shitley and Weiss, and the first born child to Jacques Schnee, owner of the Schnee  Dust Company. To date, Winter has appeared in only two episodes, had a cameo appearance in a family picture, and was mention once towards the end of Volume 4. Along with this, she's also one of the few characters we had no prior lead up too before she was introduced. Hell, before she turned up we didn't even know Weiss had any family other than her father. All we know about Winter's position  is that she works somewhere right under Ironwood in the Atlas military defenses. She's sort of on the same boat as Weiss, feeling as though it is her duty to protect and serve the people of Remnant in order to make up for her father's misdoings and reclaim the good Schnee name.  However, while Weiss decided to become a huntress,  Winter went for a more strict/ firm position of protection. At the end of Volume 4 Weiss and Ironwood mention that Winter is stationed in Haven, so it's a definite conclusion that we'll be seeing more interactions between her, Weiss, and possibly the rest of Team RWBY and RNJR. It'll be interesting to get a bit more info on her. What kind of authority she holds in the ranks. Not to mention, what kind of classified missions she's been up too since the fall of Beacon. Has Ironwood informed her of the growing situation? Only time will tell. 3. Neptune Vasilias (and the rest of Team SSSN Neptune was introduced in the first episode of Volume 2. He's a close friend to Sun Wukong, and was the first love interest to Weiss Schnee (still possibly is). Right from the start Neptune presented himself as a smooth intellectual who loves the ladies. And while we haven't seen him fight that much, the assumption could be made that he's one of the more unique huntsmen out there given his weapon of choice: An energy-shot gun that transforms into an energy guandao, which Then can be transformed into an electric-based trident. We got a lot of Neptune in Volume 2, a little in Volume 3, and then only a mention in Volume 4 with Sun saying he (and the rest of Team SSSN) are back in Mistral. Aside from his suave personality and crippling fear, we don't really know much about Neptune's background. In fact, he's one of the few characters who hasn't shown his semblance (others being Jaune, Taiyang, Mercury, Ironwood; just to name a few). Maybe in Volume 5 we'll get to see Neptune more in action AND get his semblance. I mean, if it can take Rooster Teeth four volumes to get to Ren's semblance, I think we can get Nepune's. Plus, it would be interesting to see how his interactions with Weiss would go after her time of self-empowerment back home. Will she still be interested in his type? Unlike Atlas folk, he was there on the ground with her after-all. Who know? 4. Penny Polendina Yes, I know Penny is "dead," but the big argument against that is that...she's a robot. Not human in any sense. And I know what all of you are going to be throwing in my face: "Well, she was able to generate an Aura. That obviously makes her unique." And yes, you would be right in the sense that all beings with an Aura have their own individual and unique Auras (excluding the Schnee's) and essentially have a soul, but remember the information we got in Volume 3, Chapter 6. Atlas had been experiment with Auras and all sorts of tech to manipulate and transfer things of that essence. We don't know under what circumstances Penny was created. We don't know how she's generating her Aura, or who created her in the first place. All we knew was that she was a robot who was under protection of Ironwood and sent to Vale to enter the Vytal Festival in order to see if she was ready. I can't be the only one to think this, but...wouldn't Penny's creator or Ironwood have kept the original schematics and blueprints on how to make another robot. Or better yet, REPAIR the broken robot. Like I said, we don't know how Penny is generating her Aura. Just because her robot body got damaged doesn't mean her Aura was. If it was implanted in her the first time, It could again. We never saw what happened to her body after everything that happened during the fall of Beacon. You really don't think that the government wouldn't go and collect the pieces? This is just a personal wish, but I really hope that some how they take Penny's dwindling Aura and put it in a new body. She reactivates, but doesn't remember everything fully. She's sent to Ironwood to continue being watched and slowly her memories start to come back of what happened. She then escapes from Atlas (which is currently under lock-down and having it's own travel ban) and goes to find her friends. She learns what happened to Pyrrha, and offers to become part of Team JNPR. It's only a wish though. It'll probably never happen....... 5. Neopolitan Oh Neo. To date, Neo is one of RWBY's most mysterious characters; that title formally belonging to Yang's mom Raven, but now Neo is pretty much on the same level as Summer Rose. We know literally NOTHING about her. All we know is that she works for Cinder (formerly Torchwick), and possibly Salem. Other than that she's pretty much a mystery. I mean, how are you supposed to learn anything about a character who has no voice? Yeah. To non-RWBY fans who don't know, Neopolitan is a mute. Probably because her concept from Monty Oum was so sudden into the universe, that they didn't have time to find an appropriate voice actor. And by then, she'd already made a name for herself as the silent, cocky wing-woman to Torchwick. At the end of Volume 3, the last we saw of Neo was her floating off of Ironwood's stolen ship into the sky of crowded griffins and nevermores. Presumably she landed far off from where all the action was happening, and seeing how everything was going down south she made her escape. Now, whether or not she returned to Cinder after all this is unknown. Neo's loyalty seemed to be more towards Torchwick then anyone else, but she still has connections. Maybe she took over Torchwicks crime organization after his death. Or maybe she's laying low. Hiding from Cinder so she won't be dragged any further than she already is. I know at this point in the series things had to be written out to make way for newer challenges. Obviously, the need for an underground crime network isn't as important now that our heroes have an actual threat, but Neo felt like more than just a common criminal. I mean, she was able to take out Yang with ease in Volume 2. And she had no problem dealing with Ruby...up 'til the point she blew her off the ship. I'm just saying that Neo seemed to be more skilled than most of the other villains we got at the time. Plus, considering how popular she, I don't think they'd just write her off as "missing in action" I think she'll make her return. And we won't even hear her coming. 6. Glynda Goodwitch Glynda was the first official huntress we saw in the show (Ruby herself doesn't count). As we've seen on multiple occasions, she one of the more powerful huntresses. Her abilities (and possibly her semblance) gives her almost magical abilities beyond any other normal huntress we've seen. She's not using dust, and she's not a maiden. She's just a strict, kick-ass lady with an awesome cape and zero tolerance for tomfoolery. Yet, we didn't get any of her for Volume 4. We saw a reused clip of her broadcast on  TV of her trying to rebuild Vale and reclaim Beacon, but nothing else. As the woman who was pretty much Ozpin's second in command you'd think they give her at least one line of dialogue in the new volume. Hell, Port and Oobleck had more time on screen than she did.   Well, Oscar has now emerged from Ozpin's dust, and now has to help with all the madness that's going on. Considering Glynda is one of the few people who was informed on everything, chances are that when she hears Ozpin has come back and is in the body of a child, her reaction will be about the same as Qrow's. She knows all this craziness. She probably knows more then Qrow and Ironwood considering how she's literally at Ozpin's side majority of the time. She probably knew this was going to happen and is now waiting for any word to get to her about it. She has a duty in Vale to regulate and control the Grimm outbreak, but any chance she gets she'll be on a one way trip to find Oscar and Qrow and help in any way possible.  It would be awesome if Qrow and Glynda became Oscar's mentors, helping him become the new Ozpin. Qrow would teach the basics, and Glynda would perfect them. Seems like a good combo to me. 7. Adam Taurus The Volume 4 opening deceived us! We thought we were going to get a Blake vs. Adam fight, and the most we get from Adam in the entire volume is a mention from Salem and Yang's Nightmare. Though, all that means is that we'll be getting that fight in Volume 5. Though, that makes me a bit worried. Not for him, but for everyone else. Adam was first introduced in the "Black Trailer." He didn't make his series debut until the end of Volume 2. He's the leader of the faunus terrorist group "The White Fang," a once peaceful but now violent organization that wants to destroy mankind so that the faunus species can be the dominant ones. Blake also used to serve right under him and be part of his villainous schemes. As of right now, we don't know how Adam came into power, why he's so bitter and extreme, or really anything about his past. All we know is that he had a thing for Blake and he cut off Yang's arm...what a resume. And now that she's rejected him, he's going berserk and vowing to kill everyone she loves to prove...to prove...I don't what it's meant to prove, but it does show how evil he is! Obviously, Adam has eyes EVERYWHERE. Thanks to Ilia, Adam now knows that Blake took a stop back home in Menagerie. That's probably not a good thing for her parents. And now with Blake leaving for Haven, Adam's probably going to get word of that and meet her there to continue his destructive rein over her. Aside from Blake, Yang would also be facing her anxiety towards him and getting back at him for cutting her arm off. It would be a scary, yet awesome scene to have the two fighting it out. Though, I think in the end Adam would still win, and it would be up to Blake to try and save her again. The point is, Adam will be coming back. He's too bad to let go. 8. Summer Rose Unlike Penny, I know Summer isn't going to return. Obviously, a character who died before the story even began can't magically show up five seasons later, however there's still a ton of story they could do with her. Literally since Volume 2 and 3 people have been begging for a Team STRQ flashback episode. We'd finally be able to see a living Summer Rose, and possibly see where things went so very very wrong in their team history. Maybe get a little info into Her and Tai's relationship after Raven ditched him. Who knows!?! I can only hope they give us this much needed flashback. 9. Unknown Scientist The assumption can be made that this unknown scientist might indeed be Penny's "father." Considering he was watching the tournament, and his reaction to her sudden death, it is likely to be true. But what I'm surprised about, is the lack of discussion about him, and the lore that comes from knowing who he is and how Penny came into being. I came into the show a bit late, I must admit, but still the amount of talk that goes into him is staggeringly low from what I expected. Penny is based on the tale of Pinocchio; no secret about that. She's a robot who's only partially "alive" and used mechanical swords attached to puppet-like strings. Since Penny was made around this fairytale that means that this man can only be one person: Geppetto. He's the one who built her, so obviously he's the "puppeteer" who created a false being to act like the child he never had. And that's all well and good, but there's two more major characters to the Pinocchio tale ): The Blue Fairy and The Talking Cricket (I know his name is Jimmeny, but I don't know if she's based of the fairytale, or the Disney interpretation). The woman who gave Pinocchio life in the first place and the person who gave him moral advice.. Who are they, and what connection do they have with our unknown scientist? Is she the source of Penny's Aura? Was she once a living being who had her Aura sucked out of her and placed in the body of a robot? Di Penny have another person who looked out for her? Was that who her partner Ciel Soleil was from Volume 3, episode 5? I'm hoping we get some hints in Volume 5, but knowing how Rooster Teeth and Monty setup character reveals, it's probably going to be another volume-and-a-half before we even get mention of him again. A man can only dream, and wish upon a star.   10. Weiss' Mother I'm going to make a wild claim here and say that maybe, just maybe, Weiss' mother is the Winter Maiden. I know, I know, it seems TOO obvious to be true, but there are tons of signs that could lead anyone to believe that she might be the Winter Maiden. First, her location. The Schnee's reside in Atlas. As we learned from Qrow, Atlas (formerly Mantel) is basically a frozen tundra of a continent. It's equivalent to our Antarctica. Given the Maidens abilities, wouldn't it make since for them to reside in areas that correspond to the season they represent? I mean, take Amber for example. If you look past the fog (and the awesome fight going on in the foreground), what do you see? While we don't know where exactly she was when she was attacked by Cinder, the setting indicates it was an area of changing natural colors. Almost as if it were Autumn in the area she was. It corresponded perfectly with her because she was the Fall Maiden. And now our heroes are in Haven, an area that has fresh green flora and fauna everywhere. And the next Maiden we know Salem is looking for is Spring. Seems pretty likely that maybe we'll get our next Maiden in Haven. Just like how it seems pretty likely that our Summer Maiden would reside somewhere hot, like Vacuo, and our Winter Maiden somewhere cold, like Atlas. Next, the daughter's power choice and names. Ever since Volume one, Weiss has been referred too as something icy; most notably her nickname "Ice Queen" which Qrow also calls Winter. In the beginning we all assumed they were just called that because of their cold personalities and where they came from, but with the introduction of the Maidens, perhaps this is a hints for something else. Their powers may also be a hint of their mother's Maiden prestige. Of all the types of dust Weiss has been shown using, the one she uses the most is ice. Wouldn't it make some sense that the reason she uses ice more often then fire, wind, electricity, etc. is because she took after and is copying her mother's abilities? Weiss never said she hated her mother. She never even mentioned her. There's something here. Lastly, she didn't appear in Volume 4 at all. Volume 4 was the basically the volume of FAMILY. We had Yang with her father, Blake meeting up with her parents, Ruby traveling with Qrow, Qrow interacting with Raven, and then Weiss with ONLY her Father. Why? Weiss' mother is the only living parent of Team RWBY to not show up on screen. I don't think she's unimportant. Literally all the parents have had an impacting role in their children's lives and in the setting. Weiss' mother IS important, but her time hasn't come yet. They're saving her for when the hunt for the Winter Maiden begins. When will such a hunt begin? Probably not for a good 2-3 volumes at least; 5-6 if they decide to go for the Summer Maiden before her. All we can do is wait. ____________________________________________ Well, that's all the characters I can muster up for now. What do you think? Do you think any of these characters will contribute a bigger role in Volume 5? Leave a comment below and tell me what you think. Until next time, this is Hunter the Ant signing off!
MUN QUESTIONS.
 Q1 :   if  you  could  write  your  character  your  way  in  their  own movie ,   what  would  it  be  called ,  what  style  would  it  be filmed  in ,  and  what  would  it  be  about ?  A1 :   Journey to the West. In all seriousness, I honestly don’t know? I could be predictable and say an action adventure, but tbh no clue.
 Q2 :   what  would  their  soundtrack / score  sound  like ? A2 :  A mixture of calming measures that lead into something more upbeat and pumped.
 Q3 :   why  did  you  start  writing  this  character ?  A3 :  Originally to roleplay with a friend of mine, and eventually with my boyfriend when he made a Scarlet. Sun is my Type when it comes to characters I roleplay, so it was kind of an automatic, no thought reaction when I told my friend I’d make a Sun blog.
 Q4 :   what  first  attracted  you  to  this  character ?  A4 :  ..... his tail. No judging. I loved the fact that he had a tail and his fighting style involving a staff and gunchucks. It instantly drew me to him, and his personality and interactions with other characters sealed the deal.
 Q5 :   describe  the  biggest  thing  you  dislike  about  your  muse.  A5 :   He gets barely any time to show his more serious side. We’ve seen a bit of it, like when he asked Blake if she had told her friends her story about her White Fang involvement, and in vol 3 when he called after Ruby as she left the airship, and in trying to talk Ruby and Weiss out of going back into the school grounds to find Jaune and Pyrrha. I wish he had more time to actually show that instead of being tossed to the side as comic relief.
(*spoilers* We’ve also seen it when he yells at Blake to grab the scroll from Ilya, showing he’s attentive and smart enough to know when one priority takes precedence over another. ie going after the scroll that Ilya was protecting versus trying to capture her )
 Q6 :   what  do  you  have  in  common  with  your  muse ?  A6 :   Going by strictly canon information, we both live away from our families. And by that I mean a damned good distance away that makes it incredibly difficult to see them. We’re both easy going jokers, preferring humor and lightning a tense situation. Easy to get along with, willing to help friends through all sorts of situations, and also willing to speak up if we think an idea is dumb as shit (looking at u Weiss and Ruby and ur ‘going back into the helltrap of a school for Jaune and Pyrrha). Of course, I throw some of my own experiences into how I write Sun to make things more manageable for me, and also give him more depth.
 Q7 :   how  does  your  muse  feel  about  you ?  A7 :  I can’t say for sure, but I think that we’d get along pretty well.
 Q8 :   what  characters  does  your  muse  have  interesting  interactions  with ?  A8 : Honestly? I’d say anyone. Sun’s very honest around people he knows and trusts, which can lead to some interesting conversations and interactions when he says the first thing that comes to mind. I’ve discussed some pretty interesting interactions with Sage , and he’s had a few interesting times with Scarlet, Flynt, Neptune, Neon, and Ciel.
 Q9 :   what  gives  you  inspiration  to  write  your  muse ?  A9 :   Usually my own good mood, music, or chatting about various scenarios with friends.
 Q10 :   how  long  did  this  take  you  to  complete ?  A10 :  D a y s and I wish I was joking
*For simplicity sake, using unspecific languages. Common referring to a common language spoken throughout the world, and you will take my headcanon that the Kingdoms / continents all have their own language or dialect from my cold, dead hands.
Also not comfortable answering turn on/offs.
Notebook-1
Name: Wanxue Yang
Object:  Journey to The West
Journey to The West is a book written in 16th century in Ming dynasty by Wu Cheng’en. It is one of the four great classic Chinese novels, which is still well-known to Chinese people nowadays. The main story of the Journey to the West is about the adventure of a Buddhist monk, Xuanzang in Tang dynasty with his three disciples protecting him to bring back the Buddhist scriptures from the West, the Leiyin Temple on Vulture Peak in India. The book was based on a true story of a Buddhist monk named Xuanzang in Tang dynasty. In order to translate the Buddhist scriptures more precisely, Xuanzang traveled from Chang’an in 629 and arrived in India in 630 via Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Afghanistan, he then studied in India for 13 years and came back to Chang’an in 646 (the route is shown in map on the right). Later he recorded his journey in the book Great Tang Records on the West Region.
Xuanzang’s three disciples, Sun Wukong also known as Monkey King, Zhu Wuneng or Zhu Bajie, and Sha Wujing or Monk Sha were characters added by the author of Journey to the West. All three disciples of Xuanzang were punished by the Jade Emperor who governs the heaven or Gautama Buddha for their sins and expelled from the heaven. Their missions were protecting Xuanzang to successfully arrive in Leiyin Temple and bring the Buddhist scriptures back to the heaven so that they can become immortal and go back to heaven again. All three disciples in the book had original models. Bajie was Tianpengyuanshuai, the marshal canopy, who is originated from Daoism and Chinese mythical stories in Ming Dynasty, and he was punished because he was lured by the beauty of the Goodness of the Moon, he was expelled from the heaven and turned into a human-eating pig monster. Monk Sha was originated from Monk Huili in the 7th century from Xuanzang’s biography. Monkey King was originated from folk stories in Song Dynasty , he was born from a stone with the nutrient of the Five Elements(metal, wood, water, fire, soil) and learned Taoism as he grew up. Monkey King was the strongest and the most rebel one among all three disciples. He had fought with Tianpengyuansuai and more than one hundred thousand celestial soldiers in the heaven and won, nobody can stop him havocking the heaven until the Gautama Buddha imprisoned him under a mountain for five hundred years and Xuanzang freed him from the imprison. Monkey King was actually the name Sun Wukong used when he was the monster monkey, after he released by Xuanzang, he was given by a new name, Wukong and after he brought back the Buddhist manuscripts, he became the immortal Victorious Fighting Buddha.
In different dynasties, people interpreted this book differently, and considering the People’s Republic of China as a different nation from the ancient dynasties, there are many varies versions of media adaptations, and people from the PRC and people from ancient China focus on different plots in the story, because they value the stories differently. Ancient Chinese Dynasties was an empire established based on Confucian and Legalist, so that characters like Monkey King must be yield to the heaven in the end of story. Yet after the second world war, an animation of Monkey King havoc the heaven attracted and motivated lots of people, because of the rebellion of the Monkey King reflects people’s desire at that time.
