Match 2 is between Wu Xi from Qi Ye / Lord Seventh (shizun/mentor: Jing Beiyuan) and Luo Mingxuan from The Blood of Youth (shifu: Yin Luoxia)

While JBY doesn't have a shizun status officially, he did act as Wu Xi's tutor for a while, and there are quite a few scenes in the novel of him teaching Wu Xi. Anyway imagine you are Wu Xi. You are 11 years old and your country was invaded and you've been taken as a diplomatic hostage. And they want you to assimilate but you've been chasing out all of the teachers with your venomous pets. And then your prettyboy neighbor is like hiiii :] and YOUR SNAKE (that your carry in your sleeve) LIKES HIM. what are you supposed to do then huh. NOT let him teach you? NOT fall in love with him? NOT steal him away from the future Emperor after using things he taught you to win back your country's independence?

Tian Ya Ke - finished

started reading this solely because I enjoyed Qi Ye so much and was desperate for just another glimpse of post-Qi Ye!XiYuan

it was... fine, I guess? unfortunately didn't hook me as much as Lord Seventh did. Probably because I wasn't too into WenZhou

the side characters were fun though! I got attached to them more than I did to the two main characters. Zhang Chengling was baby, and Gu Xiang x Cao Weining at least got their happy ending in their next life thank you universe

my primary purpose (i.e., to see Jing Beiyuan and Wu Xi again) was fulfilled, thank you very much

note: 拐走 (guai3 zou3) which is what ah xiang says in the first gif, literally means "kidnap" or "abduct". when used in a romantic context as in "x 把 y 拐走了", it can also mean y has fallen for x and y's heart has been "taken by" x. I've translated it here as "escape together" so that it's slightly more in line with the literal meaning of the word and makes more sense with the following clause, but the figurative romantic meaning absolutely works too!

“I had urgent business.” Zishu sat beside Beiyuan, glancing at his guests. The solemn young man in black beside Beiyuan was Beiyuan’s neighbour, the hostage Shamanet Wu Xi from subjugated Nanjiang who had grown up next door to Beiyuan. The stranger on the far left couldn’t be much older than Wu Xi, a smiling, pretty young man with a jade pin in his hair, dressed in rich dark teal robes with red accents, a white silk fan clasped in one elegant palm.

Zishu knew who he was—he wouldn’t be much good at his vocation if he didn’t—but he nodded politely as Beiyuan said, “You already know Wu Xi. This new friend of mine is Wen Kexing, a recent emissary from the Shaman Medicine Valley.”

Kexing inclined his head. “You must be Lord Zhou. The Prince has been talking about you. Are you from the jianghu? So am I, in a way. It’s almost as hard for friends to meet / As for the morning and evening stars. We should drink to this rare event.” He hid his mouth behind his fan, his eyes flicking appreciatively over Zishu’s face.

Startled by the young man’s brazenness, pretending not to recognise the poem, Zishu made a show of accepting the wine cup that Beiyuan passed to him. “If you’re from Shaman Medicine Valley… is your father Wen Ruyu?” Zishu asked, offering Kexing a toast. At Kexing’s nod, Zishu said, “My shifu Qin Huaizhang often spoke highly of him.”

“Ah, you’re from Siji Pavilion.” Kexing straightened up, again giving Zishu an appraising look—this one closer to the sort Zishu was used to: being sized up by an opponent. “How curious.”

Cayer x Redina from The Demon Prince Goes to the Academy

A win for Cayer x Redina is a win for fucked up toxic ships of guilt and misunderstandings everywhere

Redina has No Casting which lets her use magic instantly (which made her think she was a dragon at one point lol) but a limited Mana Pool while Cayer has a giant Mana Pool that he can’t properly use. During the war against creatures from the Gate Incident, Cayer would refill the Ark Crystal that would let Redina save others. However, recharging it multiple times during a battle required more mana he could manage, meaning Redina would be the one watching people she couldn’t save die & choosing who to spend mana on to save.

Their relationship became troubled as Redina, who didn’t know just how much of a toll charging the Ark Crystal took on Cayer, became cruel and upset until she learned that Cayer was using part of his lifespan to help refill the crystal when he was out of mana. She was guilt-ridden and apologetic, but Cayer refused to stop until he fell into a coma for two years.

When he awoke from his coma after the war, Redina was the one to take care of him, seemingly set to stay with him in perpetuity.

ChuXian from The Husky and His White Cat Shizun (2ha) and Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation (MDZS)

Characters: Chu Wanning from 2ha x Wei Wuxian from MDZS

Submission: I just think they'd be neat together, being that they're two of the most misunderstood characters who sufferred at the hands of people they loved so deeply yet they still put the greater good over themselves and save people at the cost of their lives... also they would so bond over their inventions and i think wwx can take cwn out of his reserved shell and make him yap about his inventions and future ideas. They'd make everything better, save the common people with their combined genius! And the combination of cwn not liking swordflights and wwx loving to show off his swordflying skills? wwx will definitely take the job to ferry him places and make him start liking the journey. They're both very bad with colder temperatures too and have both died and have themselves brought back to life(albeit in different ways) once!

Submission: During the 20 year war of TBOAH, it is fascinating to consider whether the fallen noble (og) Cale Henituse might have interacted with King Alver. It's an unlikely connection but one that is fascinating to consider. They both lived their life as a lie, for dramatically different reasons, and wore opposite masks to face the world with. Alver pretending to be the 'perfect prince' and (og) Cale pretending to be the 'worst trash'. Alver in order to overcome the way his family oppressed him and (og) Cale in order to protect his family. Their similar yet contradicting methods of handling conflict would make their interactions with one another all the more fascinating. Also, Alver is a squirrel and (og) Cale is a dog, let him bark at that squirrel lol.

Olivia Lanze was a Priestess of Towan/Tu’an whose adoptive father (leader of Knights Templar) wanted to instill her as the Empress of a Thousand-Year Empire to gain power and separate the church’s power from the Empire, abusing her to try and make her comply. Rowan is an Archbishop of the Towan/Tu’an Order who rose to her station due to the mass deaths caused by the Gate Incident, which she saw first-hand as the captured (now Demon King) Reinhardt tried to stop.

Both Olivia and Rowan became disillusioned with their religion and the Knights Templar and are unafraid to torture and murder, the latter originally in charge of torturing and eliminating heretics in the Capital refugee camps until she faked her death. I simply think these messed up semi-ex-religious women who pursue their own morality after escaping a constricting and hypocritical institute should kiss.

For starters, I suggest you read Tian Ya Ke, or Faraway Wanderers, the novel the show is based on.

And then you read Qi Ye, it's prequel (with another pairing: Jing Beiyuan||Jing Qi||Lord Seventh/Da Wu||Wu Xi who appear in Tian Ya Ke and Shan He Ling, as well as topics that explain the plot of the second book better)

The plot is better understood by reading the novels of course. X) (Check out NovelUpdates for the translations of Tian Ya Ke and Qi Ye. I personally recommend Chichilations for Qi Ye.)
