🌊TUNA-TOBER🌊 PROMPT CHALLENGE 2024 🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟

Hello friends! So last month I realized that one of the reasons I'm struggling to get my writing back up to my old speed is I am seriously out of practice since Dec/Jan when shit went down and I stopped writing for a while. After some thought, I decided I was gonna set up a little prompt challenge for myself, just a general, 'here's a prompt a day' thing for about a month. And I tossed this idea out onto my fave Daredevil discord server to see if anyone would want to join. And I'm happy to say there were takers, including some of my favorite writers in the fandom! So I've set up a delicious prompt challenge for all of us, and for anyone else who wants to take part.

For each day in October, there are three prompts: an 🌧️angst/whump prompt🌧️, a 🌻fluff prompt🌻, and a 🔥kink prompt🔥. Participants are free to choose which one of the prompts they want to write or make art of, or they can try to incorporate two, or even all three prompts into a single fic or art piece. They can write a short fic/make art every day, or just on whichever days they feel like (personally I'm going to shoot for one fic a day, but we'll see), or even incorporate those prompts into the chapters of longer fics. There are also four 'backup' prompt options for each category in case anyone hits a day or prompt where they aren't really feeling what's available on the chosen day. If any of these prompts inspire you, you can feel free to take on the Tuna-Tober challenge even if you're not in the server! This challenge is also not fandom-specific (although I have a feeling I'm mostly gonna write Charlie Cox characters, a surprise to precisely zero people, but again, we'll see).

Sometime this week, I'll be setting up a sideblog specifically for Tuna-Tober. That sideblog blog will reblog any Tuna-Tober fics/art or link to those fics that are posted on Ao3 so they'll all be easy to find. That blog will also have instructions for how to tag your Tuna-Tober fics and/or art pieces. If you'd like to be notified when that sideblog is up so you can follow it, let me know in the comments.

“[Hero],” the villain opens with smoothness they haven’t shown the hero in a long time. “I have made a terrible, terrible mistake.”

Ah. Seduction for a favour. Of course. “Well don’t keep me in suspense, [Villain]. I could use a good laugh.”

The villain pulls a face, distantly offended. Their lips twitch uncertainly. “[Supervillain]’s lab is… made for [Supervillain].”

“Who’d have thought. You’ve been in there?”

Another twitch. “Yes,” the villain says shortly. “Yes, I was in there. [Supervillain] doesn’t label anything either. Their little concoctions could be anything—and I… drank one.”

The hero snorts. The villain scowls. “You drank an unlabelled liquid?” the hero asks from behind a laugh.

“Yes.”

“Intentionally?”

The villain’s scowl somehow deepens. “Yes.”

“What, are your hours numbered? Are you hoping I hold a secret cure?”

“No.”

“What was it, then?”

Another twitch. The villain doesn’t seem to want to answer at all. “It was a truth serum.”

Oh. Now that is interesting. “Truth serum? So you can’t lie?”

“Yes.” The villain smirks, and suddenly the seductive hopefulness is back full force. “Go on, test me. Ask a question.”

The hero stares into the distance as they think. It’s a lot of opportunity dumped on them with no warning. The villain slinks across the room towards them, curious, tantalising. “Do you actually enjoy being a villain?”

“Yes.” The villain’s smirk upturns even more. “I wouldn’t even have to lie for that. Ask something I wouldn’t usually answer, dumbass.”

The villain closes the space between them. The hero gives them a suspicious squint. “Where’s your evil lair?”

“In the basement of the old school downtown,” the villain says immediately. They groan disappointedly as soon as the words are out. “God, of course you’d go for something about work. What, is looking for us getting boring?”

The hero can feel the villain’s breath on their face now. They look away to avoid the heat rising to their face. “You want me to ask something… personal?”

The villain smirks. Their arms snake up to sit on the hero’s shoulders, their fingers brushing idly through their hair. “Sure.”

Thinking isn’t the hero’s strong suit right now. They know they should push the villain away, but something’s stopping them. It almost feels real. It’s a little too comfortable. They can feel every bit of the villain's body against theirs. “I, uh… are you… seeing anyone?”

“No,” the villain whispers with a cocky grin. “Not yet.”

And the villain presses their lips to the hero’s.

Something of a surprised squeak tumbles from the hero’s mouth and straight into the villain’s. The villain hums a laugh, their fingers tightening in the other’s hair. The hero is caught up in the shock of it for a moment, but once their brain kicks in and screams its victory they remember to actually kiss them back.

The villain’s mouth is soft, gentle, their lips moving against the hero’s with a novel carefulness. The hero lets their arms slide around the other’s waist, pulling them in a little more, almost lightheaded with the exhilarated buzz. They can feel the villain smile against them as they deepen the kiss. The villain’s lips are almost salty, crisp, moreish. The hero doesn’t think they could ever get enough of their taste on their tongue.

The villain pulls away after a moment, much to the hero’s dismay, though their arms stay locked possessively around their neck. They throw a smirk at the hero again, entirely too proud of what they just pulled. “How many heroes are on the roster right now?”

The hero’s mouth is forming words before they can even register the question. “Twelve.”

“Damn.” The villain’s eyebrows shoot upwards, and the hero suddenly realises what’s happening. This bastard. “That’s not a lot. We have more than that.”

“How many?”

“Thirty-six.” The hero’s eyes widen slightly in horror, and the villain scowls at them. They still haven’t let go. “Fuck you.”

“What is—”

“Are you seeing anyone?”

“No.” Damnnit. The villain’s smirk turns playful at the hero's answer. “What’s—”

“Do you like me?”

“Yes.” The hero’s feelings aren’t stopping the rising desire to strangle the villain for making them do this. “You asshole.”

The villain’s smirk turns into a grin. “Aww. See, you can be—”

“Do you like me?”

“Yes.” The villain’s smile is gone in a second. “Oh, who’s the asshole now, huh?”

“This is so stupid,” the hero points out with a scowl. “How long does this stuff last?”

“I don’t know.” The villain grins again, entirely too knowing. “Why don’t we find out? We have all day.”

The hero frowns in faint annoyance, but the villain easily wipes it off their face with another taste of truth serum.

Happy Camp Nano and Disability Pride Month! To those disabled writers out there: gentle reminder to take it easy. If you don't have the spoons or capacity to join, it's okay. FAQ & rules 2024

1. What must be included in the content of a filled prompt?

Stephen Strange (any version of him: film, TV, or comics etc.) must be either the main or co-main character. Otherwise, anything goes!

2. Can I still take part in the event even if I ship Stephen with someone?

Well, that can be a bit tricky, but generally — yes, you can. We’d prefer to not having Stephen or the other character(s) being there for the sole purpose of shipping, but we’re not against shipping during the event, as long as it all resolves to showing the story or whatever you come up with, that regardless of the dynamic or chosen relationship (platonic, romantic, familial etc.), in the end, it is about Doctor Stephen Strange.

An established relationship, first meeting, or getting together could be allowed if shipping isn’t the driving force behind writing a prompt (yes, of course you can be wanting to have them together, but the thing is — dig harder. Romantic content is a given within the fandom, but the fandom also needs General content! Or/and especially good whumping or angst, or a detective story, an unique AU etc. There are a lot of interesting prompts, so it’s a very good opportunity to try something new or different.

3. What must be included in the tags of posts?

Use the hashtag #strangehalloween2024. Add either into description or a tag the prompts you use (or both). On Tumblr, please include additional tags for NSFW (or NSFT meaning Not Safe For Tumblr) and common triggers (see AO3 for examples). The triggers apply to SFW works if necessary.

4. When can I post my prompt fill(s)?

In the spirit of the theme, these should be posted between 18–31 October 2024. Any strict rules don’t really exist, but we'd prefer if you post prompts the day they were chosen to be posted, e.g. one of the prompts from Saturday 26 October (Screams | Sacrifice | Poison) on said Saturday or after it if you're late, but not eatlier (not on Oct. 20). Don’t worry if you won’t be able to fulfil something on time, you can always participate even if fashionably late. We’d still add it to the ao3 collection or reblog on Tumblr if we see it.

5. Where on the discord server do I post my submissions?

In our gallery for the event in #strange-halloween. It’s for submitting your finished works. Even if it's fanfiction or something that would usually go into art channels, this event is an exception.

Reminder: said channel is not for casual talking, not even about the event, there’s a separate thread within the channel for that.

If your work happens to be NSFW, the usual rules apply: post those into NSFW channels. But if you want, you can write a message in #strange-halloween channel to tell others that you have created something, and point to the appropriate channel.

6. What medium can I use?

Anything! Written prose, poetry, gifsets, mood boards, artwork, playlists, you can even cook or bake something! Make a figurine, crochet something, do a scrapbooking thing, do a cosplay, make a board game, or a quiz. An app for a phone. A game, a collage. Anything goes. All it has to do is to follow the main rule of the event — being about Stephen Strange. No Stephen? No contribution in this one, sorry. So, all is acceptable as a prompt fill. It's all about Stephen Strange in any form he comes in.

7. Can I combine different prompts into one submission (e.g.: Wednesday 23 October Spell book | Horns | “Stay still, or I’ll chop your hand off!” + an earlier/later one) ?

Sure!

8. There are 3 prompts per day. Do I have to do it all?

No. You can do whichever one you want. But if you want to do all no one would be stopping you.

9. Can I use your prompt list with other prompt lists/bingo cards?

Absolutely! Combine it with any other event you'd like to do.

10. Are there any limits to how many prompts I can use/have to use?

Nope! Participate with one or all 42 items! Do as much as you'd like!

11. I’m a bit confused about some prompts; what are the brackets for?

The prompts that have a word in the brackets or also a slash within are the ones where you can be a bit creative (and cheat the system to have more prompts if you try enough), e.g.:

Monday 28 Oct — there's Buried as a prompt. You can use just that word or include the one in the brackets to have Buried alive. Technically, you could also try a different way and get rid of the first one and only have Alive.

Wednesday 30 Oct — we have the prompt Pumpkin so either use this singular word or use the suggested ones to get a Pumpkin Spice Latte, or another option which is Pumpkin Carving!

So, you can either completely omit the additionally suggested words or not. Have fun!

12. I’m not a native English speaker, can I make something in my native language or the one I'm trying to learn?

Of course, there are no limitations. The more, the merrier! Any contribution is valid.

July 9th - “I Still Love You”–Reconciliation

Rayla poked her head into Callum’s room. “Hey, is Stella in here?”

He looked up from petting said cuddlemonkey nestled under his arm. “Maybe.”

She sat down on the bench at the end of his bed, resting her arms on the mattress to look at Callum, cuddled up with Bait and Stella. “They’ve been spending an awful lot of time with you lately.”

“Guess magical creatures just like Ocean mages,” Callum said lamely. Ezran was the animal whisperer of their group, but he didn’t have to speak Glowtoad to know that the animals had been worrying about him.

Which they had no reason to do.

Really.

He was fine.

Sources, he sounded like Rayla. Now he understood why she kept things all bottled up; she didn’t want to worry him, make him deal with her problems even though he wanted to. It was so different now that they were in the other’s place.

“They’re good judges of character,” Rayla commented, fidgeting her fingers.

He crawled over to her on his stomach, propping his head up on one hand and using the other to fiddle with one of her tiny braids. “That would explain why Stella loves you. And why they hang out with Ez all the time.”

She nodded absently, eyes glazing out of focus.

“Whatcha worrying about?”

“Tomorrow. I know you are, too.”

“I’m trying not to think about it,” Callum admitted. “We can only prepare so much before it becomes paranoia.”

“You can never account for all the things that will go wrong,” Rayla argued. “Runaan-” She stopped, meeting his eyes as Callum fought to keep his expression kindly neutral. He wasn’t exactly the fondest of Runaan, considering he’d killed Harrow and put it in Rayla’s head that she needed to sacrifice herself in order to be loved.

But Rayla loved him. That was enough for Callum to put his own ill will aside.

She looked away again. “Runaan always said that if something can go wrong, then it will. Anything you can think of can happen, so prepare for it and be ready.”

“Runaan also said that assassins are already dead. You look pretty alive to me.” Callum traced a finger along her jaw, and her eyes fluttered shut as she exhaled.

Rayla nodded in assent. “But I also learned it for myself when I was gone. When I prepared, I walked away with fewer injuries. When I went with the flow, things…” Her eyes dropped away, watching her fingernails pick at the wooden bench beneath her, “went sideways a lot.”

Callum nodded. Rayla didn’t talk much about those two years, but considering how little she slept, how often he’d awoken to find her quietly watching him in the night, her face glistening with sweat, and not to mention the scars and bruises he’d glimpsed, he could gather enough information about what it had been like.

“There are two of us now,” he said, squeezing her hand and taking his time in locking their fingers together. Hers were small and cold, especially compared to his own, enveloping hers completely and filling him with the warm desire to protect her, to shield her from everything the world could throw at them. “You’re not alone anymore, and you never will be. Ever again. Okay?”
