Okay so anyone remember that like week of controversy after the thunder Rosa Britt Baker lights out match? People called it too violent and thought there shouldn't have been blood. To those people I wanna say fuck you.

And then I wanna ask you why you care? Nobody gives a fuck when John Moxley and Kenny Omega had just as violent a match if not worse hell John bleeds whenever he can and the only complaint most people have is their tired of seeing it. Why's it any different for the women?

9. What's your weirdest pet-peeve?

My weirdest working pet-peeve is probably the lack of standardized spelling in the 17th/18th century, especially in handwritten documents. It sucks enough to try to decipher the bad handwriting, but doing that and trying to figure out what they’re actually trying to say, especially in a non-native language, is a nightmare. For the project I’m working on now, I’ve got one guy who refuses to use pronouns for anyone/thing, another who won’t use punctuation, and a third who has the Ladino/Rashi script penmanship from hell.

Permission, at least most of the time.

11. What would you do if you inherited 1 million dollars tomorrow?

What do you think of what has happened in the recent chapters of MHA?

I don't want to be overly negative, but... the short version is I don't like a certain key fact and it's borderline ruined the story for me, at least in terms of thematic impact. I'm still interested to see how the characters end up, particularly the League, and reading for them.

The AFO reveal is honestly kind of... boring to me. I just don't care when it's a sudden "surprise! Bad decisions weren't our bad decisions after all!" This trope is consistently a pet peeve of mine (looking at you, flower plot in 2ha), almost as annoying as "it was all a dream," because I feel like it's similar: a bait and switch. Don't make me care in one way and then tell me "never mind, it's actually much simpler and you don't have to actually ask all those pesky moral questions."

Setting a character up to have lacking agency be their whole thing is great. Setting a character, or in this case characters, to have absolutely none is thematically uninteresting. The questions about Kotaro's morality and Nana's are interesting. I want to ask them and wrestle with them! That's where the themes are found.

And sure, Shigaraki was always a grooming victim, and I've pointed that out millions of times. But the reveal that this went further than we could possibly dream to where Kotaro and Nana are basically... absolved, is just so unnecessary. It adds nothing to the characters or themes, but it does whittle away at the interesting flawed human aspect of it.

It's lazy writing that screams "I am not sure I did a good enough job convincing my audience he's redeemable so I'll hit y'all with a hammer" when in reality, if you ask me, Horikoshi should have more confidence. He's not perfect but he did convince many ppl of Shigaraki's redeemability. He didn't need to quash any possible discussion about it; leaving things for people to chew on is actually interesting.

Leona is also someone who doesn't really talk much when he gets bored of someone or upset: he walks away, he hums as he dissociates from the conversation, and/or he stops you right there and chews you out. He's usually very reactive with you and actually listens to you, but he's not going out of his way, y'know...

And he honestly might be the reason you're angry right now. He's sleeping in the grass of the greenhouse, again, skipping class, again... and you were sent to get him! The interaction goes much like how everyone else's with Leona goes (not well, but not from a lack of trying).

He's barely awake after he turns over on you when his ears catch you giving up with an exasperated huff. He smiles at the cute pitched whimpers you hit as you probably thought about returning to class empty handed, a lecture awaiting you instead of him. Ah, your famous pouting noises! He's heard them quite often while in Savanaclaw premises (because of the meatheads all around here fighting).

He is a softy and your anger nags him in the back of his skull, so he rolls over to look at you. Your face is twisted in on itself until he shakes his head at you, smirk on his lips.

Definitely is the type to speak his mind as long as the person who's against him isn't someone who will fold him in half. He's going to stand up against a freshman or Kalim, but he'd rather slither away from an angry Floyd or upset Malleus if he could. Thank you, no thank you!

Ruggie probably hears your angry pouts and noises often. Not because he's the source of it, but Ruggie seems to always be around some form of misfortune or weird behavior. Freshman in Savanaclaw wrestling and breaking lobby furniture? Ruggie witnessed it, and he just invited you over too! Stuff like that.

But he's definitely very amused, if not cheeky, about your noises. After you go quiet in anger and let out a cute, high-pitched whine, he'll try not to react too much till later. If the situation is important, he's more likely to overlook it, because oh my god this school is full of walking hazards. When it's later, you hear him laughing though.

You can glare at him or look at him in shock, but he'll calm down pretty quick. It's just... he can never get over it! It reminds him of the kids back home fighting each other!

His laugh ends and he holds up his hands. "Whoa! Whoa! Sorry, sorry! Just... it was so serious, I couldn't process how cute you were!"

Oh, his temper is more pride related but he's also commonly mad about genuinely annoying things. He often says his pet peeves involve petty bickering and squabbles so you generally don't get into too much trouble on that front if you're with Jack. But of course, Ace and Sebek are his friends and it's inevitable that someone draws Jack in while deep into conversation.

He's not going to bicker long with them, as they are real friends and this is usually how they get into new topics, but sometimes it gets annoying. Sebek is loud, Ace is goading, Deuce can be obtuse, Epel either yells or falls behind, and usually Ortho is the one keeping track of everything. It's not always this bad but this can go on for a while...

Sighing, pouting, and maybe even letting slip a growl as Sebek yells at Ace and Epel for agreeing against him, but Jack heard it clearly. He leans closer to you and asks if you're okay, because he knows what those noises mean, but you shake your head and tough it out a little longer. Jack promises you that you'll leave soon, promise.

Later, Jack smiles as you both get free time to yourself and you genuinely look happier to finally do what couples do.

His smile was contagious as he says, "I know what those noises mean and I'm sorry we went on a little long. They just catch me off guard and I get absorbed, won't happen again!" Very supportive!

Forgiving THEIR Past

You hear a lot of new-agers talking about forgiving your past. And I agree; at some point you have to wrestle with and ultimately forgive your past.

But what about other people's past? If indeed "what is good for the goose is good for the gander," then shouldn't we forgive their past as well?

Ouch. Sorry that I had to point out that possible inconsistency in your world.

Today the Moon in Libra will oppose Chiron in Aries at the breakdown to breakthrough 22° mark. This is an opportunity to breakdown old feelings about the past in order to keep them out of your future.

When the Sun is in Virgo everything seems bigger; problems, pet peeves, irritations. And if a past with an individual that you haven't forgiven is in your field, then it seems bigger than it really is.

But it's also the opportunity to forgive, meaning detach yourself from them and the situation. Forgive doesn't mean forget, but that the situation doesn't factor into your decisions anymore.

And that's when an almost certain future is rewritten to something more harmonious than you once thought possible.

just saw someone criticize tlt for having too many epithets and. that is. the worst take i have seen in a long time. tell me you have fanfic brain poisoning without telling me you have fanfic brain poisoning.

look, i'm firmly on the side of being careful with epithets. it's actually a pet peeve of mine. seeing people repeatedly referred to by their hair colors or race or other physical descriptors is the fastest way to get me to close a book or hit the back button on a fic, far more so than grammatical errors or the like. that's not because of the epithets, but because of how they're being misused.

it is possible to use epithets just for variety, but that should be kept to an absolute minimum. a far more valid use of epithets is to draw attention to traits which are currently relevant. if one character is being manhandled by another, referring to the former as the smaller one, or the latter as the larger one, or even vice versa depending on context, is an excellent form of imagery. but that's a relatively pedestrian use. effective and useful, but not necessarily powerful; not phrases you can build stories around.

but you can build stories around epithets, because the best possible use of epithets in fiction is to tell you what the pov character is thinking, or not thinking, without saying it directly. it's one of the most powerful methods of showing rather than telling.

the first time gideon calls harrow "her necromancer" in tlt is crucial. it's blink-and-you-miss-it, but it marks the first time gideon sees harrow as hers. which is both negative, in that it's possessive, and positive, in that it means she actually fucking cares! which before then, and for a good long while after, she couldn't consciously admit to herself, much less harrow!

for the record, gideon first calls harrow her necromancer after having spent days wrestling with herself over whether she should care about harrow being apparently missing, wavering back and forth before giving in and searching for her, and eventually finding her unconscious because harrow is a moron who kept working until she passed out in a haunted basement. gideon calls harrow her necromancer as she is carrying her, having confirmed that she is unharmed but dehydrated and having just seen her briefly struggle back to consciousness for the express purpose of bitching at someone.

every time it is used thereafter, it carries the weight of every time it has been said previously. the necromancer-cavalier dynamic in the world of tlt is fascinating, both on a conceptual level and in every example we are given. hell, it's the closest thing their society has to gender roles, but that's another essay, and a very pretentious one i have no intention of writing.

tlt is a master class in using epithets correctly. again, if you're just so fucking sick of epithets being misused in fanwork, i get it. i'm right there with you. but epithets are not inherently bad, no more than alliteration is, or goddamn semicolons.

on the other hand, if the person meant the silly nicknames gideon keeps giving harrow, then i'm even more baffled. at that point you just have no taste or sense of humor. but as a rule i prefer to turn venting into lectures that are potentially helpful to others; it's not like i've tagged the person who i saw do this, i'm not here to start a fight.

anyway. to summarize. epithets used randomly to replace calling people by their names: generally bad. epithets used to create imagery or remind the reader of details relevant to the situation: good, useful. epithets used to show changes in perspective and show rather than tell: fucking excellent.

why I wrote this:

I’ve wanted to do something with a reader bandaging Xaden’s 107 cuts for a while now, but I’m still very awkward in writing for him bc in my mind that’s bestie Violet’s man and not ours 😅 so making it Garrick and Angel was a compromise — still a tender moment with baby shadow boy being taken care of and held, but not in a romantic sense. plus they’re supposed to be like… 17? at the time so I didn’t want to make it weird. idk.

some highlights / things I’m proud of / etc:

-> poor baby Xay asking for help cleaning the cuts… “I’d do it myself, but I can’t see them.” -> he wants to be the strong one and get through all of this alone but he can’t, both physically (he can’t reach the cuts or see them) and emotionally (he needs someone to be there for him and hold him and let him cry.)

-> he has to lay facedown because the cuts are on his back,, but also this adds vulnerability — he’s exposed, and not in a position of power, not in control or ready to attack, just… laying there, defeated. and angel finding a way to provide physical comfort, with him laying down on a pillow and her petting his hair just like a mama would… 🥺

-> the callback to his mom leaving wasn’t originally in there but it hit me at the last minute and I thought it added depth — in a situation like this, bb just needs his mom but she’s long gone by now. and so there’s a parallel I drew there between bb gare and angel comforting him this way at 10-11 when mom left, and now at 16-17. the only two times he cried in front of them, which is an indicator that both of those situations are a Big Deal, defcon three, all hands on deck.

-> in my mind this is 10000% angel. but again I left it vague on purpose. anyway, angel knows. she knows that it isn’t okay. it won’t be okay for a long time. so she isn’t going to tell him that it is, even if it’s well-intentioned, because that would dismiss the fact that he is very much in pain right now and this situation is super messed up and decidedly Not Okay. idk. pet peeve of mine showing.

In terms of physical appearance, Simon is said to resemble his mother more. The hair and eye color came from his paternal side.

He's also the tallest member of his immediate family.

To piggyback off the second bullet point, this came as a surprise to his parents. They didn't expect him to shoot up like a beanstalk, especially his father.

In fact, for the longest time, his brother was bigger than he was.

He would always win when they wrestled, though.

Has two major pet peeves: broken promises and people assuming that because he's from Manchester, he must positively, ABSOLUTELY, love Manchester United.

His first pet peeve comes from the fact that his father would make empty promises as a way to keep the family (especially Simon) under his thumb. He never came through with them, always moving the goalpost to justify reneging on them.

As for the second, well... watching soccer is a pretty good way to pass the time and he doesn't mind the banter or two but he actually prefers rugby. When he was a wee lad, he actually wanted to be a rugby player when he grew up. He's also developing an appreciation for American Football as well.

Remember when Simon joked with Johnny about not being ugly under his mask? Well, it's the truth. He's not ugly. He DOES, however, look incredibly boyish when he's clean-shaven. Doesn't like full-on beards because it's too much work for him to maintain but prefers to keep a five o'clock shadow. He's tried the beard game before and it wasn't for him. Had to deal with a shit ton of ingrown hairs.

That may be why he also thinks Price's beard looks ridiculous sometimes. But he’ll forever keep that tidbit to himself.

His favorite homecooked meal is Toad in the Hole with peas, potatoes, and extra gravy.

His favorite tea is chamomile. Ghost enjoys it with two scoops of sugar and one teaspoon of milk. Will only use honey as a last resort.

Usually drinks his coffee black, too.

However, when Autumn rolls in, Simon's inner basic bitch comes out and he'll treat himself to a pumpkin spice latte every so often.

If/When he gets hot chocolate, he likes it with a lot of marshmallows and/or whipped cream.

Part of the reason he got his tattoos was that he wanted to rebel against his father who forbade any ink or piercings in the house.

He's got a very dry sense of humor, but he's actually fairly easy-going and quick to laugh. His default is kind of resting bitch and tracking your movements face and he's cold calmness out on patrol, but he's actually a really good time when out at a party. He's just not usually leading the conversation. He likes people watching.

Does he ever get get bashful about having to explain BDSM protocol to others or does he see the subject as neutral?

Lol no he does not. He sees BDSM (and sex in general) as a very healthy and natural part of existence and has no shame in it. He may not reveal his personal preferences and past experiences with someone he's not planning on playing with or teaching, but he has no qualms about the subject at all.

He finds it hysterical when Haldir asks him about anything BDSM-related because Haldir is incredibly bashful about it, even if he tries to put on a good face.

I tend to HC that Elvish societies are less prudish about sex overall than Mannish societies and the fact that he was raised Silvan makes it even less so.

How does he interact with softer/newer subs?

Overall, he treats them similarly in that he's a lot gentler with them.

Rúmil's not very verbally expressive during play normally, so he tends to guide softer subs around more with soft touches instead of harsh tugs or slaps. He prefers harder play, so he's likely only to take a soft sub if they're newer, want to try a new type of play, if they've had traumatic experiences and want something safe and controlled, or it's a compatibility test for something more intense.

For newer subs specifically, he makes an effort to be more verbal with them in a way he's typically not in play: asking more clarifying questions, explaining what he's doing before he does it and maybe even expected sensations, checking in more often and requiring verbal confirmation of consent, and even giving a lot of verbal feedback or praise. He starts slow and builds with newer subs and he's really big on sitting down and having almost like a date with them just to get to know them and their goals beforehand.

What is his biggest pet peeve?

That the patrol talans aren't being put back into the order he left them in. It's easier to settle in, keep things clean, and find important tools in an emergency if things are kept to his (or any) standards.

Yes, absolutely. Laser-focused and very intense, especially if it's about BDSM. Haldir and Orophin both have better memories than he does so he takes the time to write down important dates or sexual preferences and other information so he can refer back to/memorize it. Once he puts it to paper, he's generally pretty good after that.

It's actually why he started painting, to vividly remember landscapes and embed them in his memories.

Mmm. He enjoys traveling, but its not something he craves. He honestly tends to get around a decent amount (visiting Mirkwood for some festivals and important holidays - I HC they were born here and have extended family and friends there; patrolling all over Lothlórien over the centuries; escorting guests and Celebrían; and traveling to Imladris for diplomatic conferences or patrol exchanges; and so forth) and doesn't see the need to do more than he already does. Every once in a while, he'll go for a weekend trip somewhere, but its mostly for a change of scenery and some quite.

Haldir was often stationed in nearby human settlements before he was promoted to Captain and then Chief and so forth and he would visit him, as well.

And actually, not really! There's a couple I could say, but I also think the basic ability/information for them are common to any Galadhrim, warden elf. Hiking, walking, camping, plant and animal identification. He's quite good at them all and specifically specializes in tracking, but that just kind of comes with the territory. He does really like butterflies, though.

He loves to swim in any body of water he finds and perch high up in the mallorn trees and watch the seasons change.

Do his crazy stunts ever get him into trouble?

All the fucking time. He doesn't get injured as much as he did as an elfling (Tawarwaith - Woodelves/Silvan- elflings fall from trees says one of my favorite Mirkwood world-building authors, SpaceAsmatic, on ao3), but he still ends up in hysterical situations.

To date, he has cartwheeled, somersaulted, and fell out of a patrol talan onto Lord Celeborn. More than once. Celeborn thinks it's hilarious, but no one except Galadriel and Elrond will ever find out. He has to maintain his stern demeanor with his wardens. Elrond finds out because the trees are different in Imladris and he always has to adjust to new tree heights and branch stability. He broke an arm last time he was there.

He and Legolas get on like a house on fire. Everyone gives them a wide berth when they're together and Elrond puts the healing wing on standby.

It mostly gets him out of trouble to be honest, because parkouring across tree-tops is really great for orc evasion.

What is he like when one of his friends/family members have a bad day?

Typically he gets a bit quieter and softer; more reserved. Most of those he's close to have a bad day due to overwork (Haldir) or over stimulation from stress so he kind of follows them around and assists them where he can. He likes to open windows and coerce people onto balconies for some fresh air and sun.

If people are up for it, he'll take them out drinking or partying and he'll take point so they don't have to focus on the details. He'll get you home safely. He'll be drunk as shit, but he'll get you home!

Does he often wrestle/play fight with his brothers? If so, who usually starts it and who finishes it?

I wouldn't say often and when they do it's nothing serious. Just a fun joke and lots of posturing; no one's trying to do any damage.

Haldir or Rúmil usually start it (after Orophin has goaded them) and they usually finish it while Orophin just wheezes laughing.

If Haldir and Rúmil ever are fighting, then something is very, very wrong. Like someone died wrong.

He strikes me as someone who is very outdoorsy and would rather sleep by a campfire than inside. Is that true?

No, but only because after every night he's forced to sleep on the forest floor or on a bare slat during patrols and battles, he refuses to give up the comforts and warmth of his bed at home any more than he has to.

(He likes everything else about the outdoors, though.)

Does he have romantic, non-sexual relationships?

Eh, he kind of has flings sometimes? What he really has is a large, close knit group of friends with kissing and cuddling benefits.

Is he cuddly with those he’s close to?

Incredibly! He's very tactile and often has a hand on someone or is dragging them somewhere. Loves chilling in meadows in a dog pile of his friends.

Thank you!!!! You're so kind! Yeah, I fucking love her and them too. I always try and write other pairings, but in the end I end up having WIPs with them too.

Since the submissive Haldir discussion has been going around, I've actually added three new WIPs for Haldir and my OFC all featuring subby Haldir in various stages of their jouney regarding his submission. One is actually her basically trying to get him to accept compliments and praise through worship so. I think that may have answered part of your question.

I do have a non-sexual kneeling drabble in that list, too. Because them. Sigh.

Hmm Facts about OFC (who is my OFC for my full HC Haldir, whereas the ones created for Sotwk and labeled as such are a mix of my HCs and hers for her requests):

-I haven't yet decided on a profession for her, but I'm leaning seamstress or herbalist. I had been debating archivist, but I think I'm giving that to my fem!Haldir x fem!Reader in the future. Not that it technically matters, but semantics.

-She's good at holding a grudge with everyone in world except Haldir (not that he tends to upset her very often)

-She refuses to have a favorite season; it’s very rude and they all have their benefits and magic

-She loves lemon (hence Haldir's famed Lemon Tarts)

-She tends to get overstimulated by noise easily

-She had too many houseplants. She and Haldir had to come to compromise (she lost; her consolation prize for almost-solely kitchen herb plants in the house now is garden walks with his brothers)

-She’s afraid of heights. It makes living in trees the fucking worst (patrol towers and the Council Hall are the worst offenders because they’re extra high up)

This is a bit of a pet peeve but I'm tired of so much lgbtq/queer media that gets recommended or marketed having like... A moral to the story related to queer ness? I appreciated that in my teens but I'm an adult now. Not that adults can't enjoy that media, but as time passes your the questions you want to explore grow and change, so the media you get to explore needs to grow and change to answer them. I no longer *need* stories that ask "is it okay to be queer? What does it mean to be x identity (in general)?" I want more complex stories with more complex questions. I just want queer stories that would be interesting without the queer ness but the queerness adds extra flavor.

Goopy Gaster Positivity

A personal pet peeve of mine is the lack of goopy gasters that stay goopy after being saved.

Just imagine:

Gaster gets saved from the void, but ends up looking exactly like a goopy mysteryman.

Sans and Alphys try to undo his goopiness, but after lots of testing, come to the conclusion that there's nothing that can be done, and he’s forced to stay in that form.

Gaster is devastated, and ends up feeling really self-conscious about his goopy body.

Sans however, doesn’t mind at all, and ends up trying to cheer Gaster up, and even ends up snuggling in Gaster’s goop once he feels comfortable enough. This ends with Gaster discovering that his goop can be positive after all.

Papyrus sort of minds, but doesn’t let his personal squicks get in the way of a monster that’s clearly in need and needs cheering up (plus he relates with the self-consciousness). Papyrus ends up giving Gaster advice on how to be almost as cool as himself while still being goopy, which Gaster very much appreciates.

Alphys feels like a failure and feels responsible for Gaster’s goopy state, so it’s Gaster that tries to insist it’s not her fault and that it’s his fault, and after a while, come to the conclusion that blaming themselves leads to nowhere, and end up bonding over their shared ‘failures’. She also introduces Gaster to her comfort anime, which Gaster becomes a fan of.

Gaster ends up befriending the Amalgamates, who teach him cool tricks you can do when goopy, such as summoning tentacles or shapeshifting. Gaster ends up being really fascinated by these tricks, and eventually, feels comfortable enough to freely shapeshift while also being happy with his natural goopy state.

Several slime monsters end up treating Gaster like he’s perfectly normal, which boosts Gaster’s self-esteem. He ends up hanging out with them and gets taught about slime culture, which Gaster ends up gaining an interest in.

Undyne thinks Gaster's body is really cool and insists on wrestling it. They end up sparring together, with Undyne trying (and failing) to get a grip on Gaster’s goopy tentacled body and end up having a really fun time. Besides that, Undyne also insists on teaching Gaster how to cook, so Gaster and Undyne end up performing what are essentially explosive chemical experiments using both edible and inedible substances.

Mettaton very much understands what Gaster is going through, and ends up insisting that Alphys creates a robot body for Gaster, which Gaster explains doesn’t actually work that way, and that he’s stuck in this form. So Mettaton does his very best to make Gaster feel fabulous anyway, teaching him some fabulous dance moves, which thanks to Gaster’s shapeshifting, ends up being pretty good at.

The first thing Asgore does is hug Gaster, ‘cause his returned memories made him realise how much he missed him, not minding the goop at all. They end up having tea together and end up venting about their sorrows, but also cheering each other up.

Toriel senses that Gaster is hurt and ends up baking snail pie for him, which as it turns out, Gaster very much likes. Toriel ends up teaching Gaster how to properly cook so that Gaster can actually make something edible for himself as well.

Sans takes Gaster to Grillby’s bar and ends up meeting Grillby. It’s unclear whether they first met before Gaster’s fall or after, either way, they end up befriending each other nicely, bonding over sign language and people not understanding them, as well as their pasts. It becomes a regular occurance of Sans and Gaster visiting Grillby’s bar to talk and sign with each other.

On the surface, Gaster gets a lot of stares from people, mostly humans. It takes a long time for Gaster to be comfortable going outside alone as well as to not care about people’s stares. Once he does however, he ends up finding the surface really interesting and learns a lot about the many sciences the surface has to offer.

If someone were to ever be mean to Gaster, he has an entire support friend group as well as a bunch of amalgamates and slime monsters who all come to defend and comfort him. This makes Gaster realise that he can in fact be happy while still being Goopy.
