9. What's your weirdest pet-peeve?
My weirdest working pet-peeve is probably the lack of standardized spelling in the 17th/18th century, especially in handwritten documents. It sucks enough to try to decipher the bad handwriting, but doing that and trying to figure out what they’re actually trying to say, especially in a non-native language, is a nightmare. For the project I’m working on now, I’ve got one guy who refuses to use pronouns for anyone/thing, another who won’t use punctuation, and a third who has the Ladino/Rashi script penmanship from hell.
10. Which is better: asking for permission or asking for forgiveness?
Permission, at least most of the time.
11. What would you do if you inherited 1 million dollars tomorrow?
Nothing that interesting, honestly. Pay off the student loan debt I have left, buy my parents’ house outright for them, and set the rest aside for emergencies/a potential retirement nest egg.
#ask game#thanks!#(my other working pet peeve is dealing with banking ledgers. because they’re so useful. but they’re also the worst to have to navigate and#handle. the Bank of England ones aren’t in alphabetical order. so you have to consult a separate index. and they’re massive. easily#two feet top to bottom and weigh half as much as I do/around 60 lbs. but I’m too dumb and prideful to ask the archivist to help. so I always#just end up wrestling them on and off their cart and my desk myself. which is why my arms are covered in bruises and ye olde paper cuts)
