vi is so fucking fascinating to me, I am studying her like a bug in a jar

she was a CHILD putting on her father's gauntlets in spite of the fear gathered in her little body, in spite of just witnessing someone she's known all her life die in a HORRIFIC way (benzo), still she rises, still she says I HAVE TO DO THIS still she takes on men three times her size and fucks them up so bad that silco has to send his shimmered up fucked up monster to try to stop her and STILL she persists, indifferent to the worst happening because she’s survived the worst already. furious and unstoppable and determined to do whatever she has to survive and ensure those she loves survive, no matter the cost.

vi under all that debris, bruised, bleeding, screaming, watching her family die, staring at the monkey head in shock and crying because this can't be happening, they were so close...

sobbing in pain until her father saves her just to watch helpless as he dies protecting her. they were so SO CLOSE to surviving, so close to escaping and everything gets ripped away in a second

vi trapped in that prison cell for years and years on end with the ghosts of her family and her guilt for company, drowning in guilt, wondering if her sister's still alive, no doubt thinking about how she LET her slip right through her fingers

the last thing vander said to her was "take care of powder"

she's let the man who's her FATHER and loves more than anything down.

"whatever happens is on you" / "protect the family" / "take care of powder" .... but she can't, not anymore, she's fucked it up and let everyone down (re "I should have been there for you, for everyone") all she can do is sit in that shitty prison cell, on that freezing floor, hungry, bloody, counting the hours until she can somehow rescue powder

Vi is piercings and tats that no doubt got infected, she's a child becoming a woman too fast, she is a danger-zone high-risk disaster area and won't back down, won't give up.

Vi is soft!! self-sacrificing, protective, supportive. ("You wanna talk about today?", "We've all had bad days, but we learn, and we stick together") brave, SMART, witty. she's got a tongue sharp as her fists and a barbed, delicious sense of humour. she gives people nicknames (cupcake, pow pow, pretty boy) and fights with everything that she's got to protect what she loves!!!! she is her father's daughter!!!

she is idealistic and expects the world to see her reason, look at things through her eyes and wanna make a change ( "This is how things are, how they've always been. I was so stupid to think it could change. / "oil and water that's all there is" )

and yes! vi is not flawless. she's obsessive (re sevika. to her eyes she is the last thing standing between her and silco/getting to silco and saving jinx) and complicated, morally ambivalent because she makes mistakes, flies off the handle like a comet crashing through everything in her way, makes reckless choices because she has to. she is selfish when it comes to jinx and would do anything to keep her safe.

Honestly I think Aaravos was like 90% just fucking with Viren in playing up the whole "this is our child" rather than "this is a vessel of living essence attuned to both of us through blood" BUT the fact that Claudia references the "Blood of Child" after doing the spell suggests that he explained it to HER in the same terms and I can't even imagine how that conversation went down. Masterful commitment to the bit, 10/10 no notes.

Anyway if Viren hadn't died, I'm pretty sure the original plan was to hatch Sir Sparklepuff and at some point (before or after locating the prison) and then use him as a bridge to transfer Aaravos's soul into Viren's body as a permanent possession that gets him back into the real world, whether to continue in that form or work on getting back to one of his own.

What it would do to Viren's soul is a bit questionable, but that's definitely not something Aaravos is concerned about.

I think part of what gets to me about The Substance is not just how gross it is (I have talked sm about how disgusting the viewing experience is) but like I also just find it so devastating. Like the movie is such an incredibly difficult watch because I feel bad for Elisabeth, Sue, Elisasue. Like she let her real insecurities create an abomination and destroy her own life. it’s so viscerally uncomfortable watching it happen. the movie creates a pit in my stomach and a lump in my throat not just because of her transformations but also a feeling of empathy akin to pity.

Unlike in the books, where Laenor died, Laenor lived in the show. But Rhaenyra married Daemon anyway, despite her still being married to Laenor.

The last time a Targaryen had multiple spouses it was Maegor and it was denounced as a sin and he was exiled. It was only accepted later, and then only barely, because he was a psychopathic tyrant.

So then Rhaenyra’s marriage to Daemon is not a legitimate marriage. And if their marriage is not legitimate, then their sons aren’t either.

Well done, Rhaenyra, you produced five bastards and completely ruined your own claim to the throne. Aside from the part where you don’t actually have a claim because Westerosi law is clear that sons inherit before daughters and you have three brothers, one of whom has a son of his own.

I finished How to Survive Camping and I am utterly enamored with it, and especially enamored with CupKate. Those two are really the couple of all time huh. Love confessions more heartwrenching than any allo romances I've probably ever read, a relationship that bopped back and forth from spouse ("spouse") to QPR to guy trying to kill you, but always always they were tied together at the soul.

Even now I can't really wrap my head around Beau not loving her the way she loved him (romantic or not, that was a love deeper than anything). Some things are not for me to know though.

lil quick thing to note -- while chiyo loves mornings, she is not a morning person. she likes those faint, early rays of sunlight, likes waking up when the world is still a little quiet, but she always plans for the fact that she's going to take a long time to fully wake up. she's planning on enough time in that quiet to nod off and wake up again ( sometimes in her shower ) and still be ready in time for the day if she has something planned. mornings are slow and lazy with chiyo unless there's some kinda pressing matter ( like needing to make a flight, for example ).

Why is everyone convinced Vi will become an enforcer? I don't get it

Arcane is an origins story and in league lore Violet is known as THE piltover enforcer. Caitlyn becomes the sheriff and Vi is her trusted partner.

Also, riot is making the show. It's not some independent project, someone who's bought the rights to it. It's all part of the same universe. I'm not saying things could not go differently in the show but they did promote it as such and I fully trust Amanda Overton and the rest of the writing team to tell her story. So far the characters, setting, dialog, and plot all have worked together flawlessly to create season 1's cohesive narrative. I don't think that's gonna change going into season 2 and onwards.

thinking so so sooooo much about how zelda going back in time and being with rauru, sonia, and minoru were parental in a way that was caring. zeldas father being so hard on her in botw about trying to unlock her powers, but in tears of the kingdom these 3 gave her encouragement even if all seemed impossible for her to get back to her time. they were gentle with her and truly treated her like family from their time. rauru and sonia filling that parent role and minoru being the aunt..
