Since it’s Being Human renaissance here, would like to recommend two shows to my mutuals – Wreck (2022) and The Red King (2024).

Wreck is a slasher – murder mystery from BBC3. It’s aimed at the same demographic, YA audience and it continues the tradition of the BBC3 classics, such as In The Flesh and Being Human, subverting tropes of the genre. Bonus points: Both leads are queer, gay/lesbian solidarity. Great trans representation in the main cast. Fun premise that also explores social issues of class and race and, as someone put it, it’s Hot Fuzz meets Squid Games. Both seasons are available on iPlayer and Hulu.

The Red King is a new murder mystery show from Toby Whithouse, the creator of Being Human. On the surface level it’s a reimagining of Wicker Man but with a new modern spin. Hot Fuzz meets Broadchurch with that distinctive Toby’s writing style – self fulfilled prophesies, moral corruption and an autistic coded lead who is also a woman of color. Honestly, you can recognize a bit of both Annie and Nina in her. The entire season is available on Alibi, I think.

the pain of having a favourite show that is not only pretty unknown so there’s barely any extra content online, but also one that gets cancelled after two seasons on a cliffhanger!!

also there being an insane wlw ship in season 2 that will never be advanced on because of the cancellation! and to make matters worse there is no edits, no fanfic and no extra content of them anywhere online! how fucked up

we got one kiss and a few cute moments, but i have to stop myself constantly from imaging the content we’d have gotten if the show was renewed

Been really enjoying Wreck (BBC Three). Cute dudes kissing plus a slasher murder mystery? Yes, please.

Plus it's filmed locally and it's really weird seeing places in Belfast doubling for cruise ship facilities.

Forgot to mention that I'd watched all of Season 2 of Wreck. I liked the change of setting to a wellness festival and all the twists & turns plus the dark humour. I liked that some characters came back and they weren't afraid to kill others off either - the ending didn't have quite the impact of the season 1 finale but I feel it did set things up for a possible season 3.

A silly idea that popped into my head - a Wreck vid set to the The Suite Life on Deck theme song (bonus points if it's ironically set up like a cheesy sitcom opening credits sequence) would be brilliant 😂

I actually love how ugly Merlin's outfit is in Merlin. BEFORE YOU YELL AT ME - I love his outfit, I think it's fun, but when you look at every other character, even other peasants, he literally is wearing ill fitting rags. Everything is too big on him (despite being like six foot but whatever) and his silhouette reeks of boring character design.

But like!! Yeah!! He is just Some Guy. I love how they never give him som epic mage robes or a cool outfit for more than thirty seconds. He is unassuming. He's over here, commanding dragons and controlling the weather in the medieval equivalent of stained sweatpants and a night shirt. It's great.
