a little disclaimer: this is a really long list (sorry ;_;) but it isnt anywhere near all of jasons appearances (though thats not hard to find of you want it after reading these ehehe)

in fact this basically turned into a webginz approved jason reading list!! which wasnt my original intent but.... 👍

im gonna sort them with little stars. 1 star = tecnically skippable, but i still think it should be on this list. 2 stars = important. 3 stars = ESSENTIAL. my favorites and the most important!

batman 408*** jasons first appearance and origin

batman 409-413*** continuation of jasons origin story

batman 416** nightwing drama, but warning- this is writen by starlin, who hates robin and esp jason (more on him later). so just be aware while you read, lol. i have mixed feelings with this comic..

dc 573-574** the focus is more on batman in 574 but still

batman 424-425** this is the infamous comic where jason may or may not have pushed a guy off a building. BUT, disclaimer, this is written by starlin and was meant to make jason look bad. so keep in mind that this isnt a "killing rapist good" comic, and more of a "wow robin is so evil!!" comic. #jasondidnothingwrong

death in the family aka batman 427-429*** a big disclaimer for this one!!! its also written by starlin and another thing about this guy is that he likes to shoehorn in modern politics into whatever story hes writing, being really insensitive to the point of it looking like a joke. so yeah. warning for the biggest whiplash between child murder and insane irl politics being basically mocked.

post resurrection:

batman: hush* his first post resurrection appearance technically, but its very brief. no number bc the parts that matter are included in the utrh omnibus.

under the red hood*** i could give you the exact issues but, JUST READ THE OMNIBUS. its the collected stories, plus a couple extra.

some parts of this story can be a bit confusing without context, but to get full context youd have to read a metric ton of stories, none of which include jason. so just use context clues for anything you dont get (or dm me and ask, lol).

theres an animated movie based on this story, but a few things are cut out/changed.

batman annual 25*** flashback/explanation for how jason came back. one of my favs of all time (also included in utrh omnibus)

red hood lost days** prequel, but read after the others. shows jasons life between his resurrection and utrh stunt.

these both take place after utrh, not necessarily jason focused, and they are pretty out of context. nevertheless, here they are:

green arrow 69-72* dont judge jason too harshly for this... he had a weird role in the sidekick ecosystem at this point.

outsiders 44-46* this is a brief appearance but i like it, interaction with nightwing

NOW... my final recommendation is:

robin 80th anniversary, specifically jasons story- "more time" *** really short and was written really recently, but its by winnick who's the author of like half of this list and basically THE post-resurrection jason writer. so you can read it with only the knowledge of this list and understand it! please do! IM BAWLING!!!!

on modern (2011-now) comics:

i dont remember enough about new 52 to give recommendations. the only jason centric story is rhato, WHICH SUCKS. SO BAD. SKIP IT, IM SERIOUS. in fact, skip anything written by lobdell.

however.. as much as i hate to say it, lots of the new 52 stories set up his relationship with the rest of the batfamily, and these dynamics stayed to this day.

i have no specific recommendations, though... maybe "batman and robin eternal" and "robin war" ???

for rebirth and infinite frontier id have to make a whole new post if i wanted to be in detail because i have a lot to say. ill just say- i liked the urban legends issues that focused on jason, task force z was weird but alright jason characterization, despite hating lobdell and it being shitty i also like the beginning or rhato rebirth. gotham war is a poorly written ooc mess but i must admit i love the angst LOL. jason also makes a ton of small appearances in batman/nightwing/etc which (though i havent read all of them) seem to mostly be good.

I AM ALSO A HUGE FAN OF ARKHAMVERSE JASON. this is an alternate universe (the video games) and so none of the comics on this list are canon to that universe, and none of the arkhamverse stuff has any connection to 'main canon' BUT THAT DOESNT MATTER. i think arkhamverse jason is almost perfect.

Well, I have a lot of fics that end happy, but three fics come to mind here:

Not so far no. Never had any hate.

Well, yeah if the story asks for it. But only when it fits the narrative. I don't go into too much details though. I like to keep things 'light' and 'fluffy'. :D

10-Craziest crossover?

Well, I would say:

The Sound of Science: a fusion between 'Stargate Atlantis' and 'The Sound of Music'. XD LOL!

To Boldly Go: a fusion between 911 and Star Trek. Basically it's a Buddie story set in the Star Trek universe, but Star Trek characters don't really show up.

11-Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Not as far as I know off. I don't know if my writing is good enough to steal though. It's important to stay humble. :D

12-Have you ever had a fic translated?

Nope.

13-Have you ever co-written a fic before?

Yes, when I was in 'The West Wing' fandom (in the beginning of the 2000's) I wrote about three longer Josh/Donna fics together with a fandom friend. I have lost contact with her since, but I will never forget about her.

14-All time favorite ship?

Oh wow, it's very hard to pick one, because all of my ships hold a special place in my heart.

Josh/Donna from 'The West Wing' was my first online ship. I made fanart, wrote fanfic, met great people. In those days fandom was mostly found on the Yahoo-groups. They eventually went canon in season 7, but I had moved on from the show by then because of how bad the writing got in later seasons. So, I missed the big reveal as they went canon. I'll never not regret it.

Danny/Martin from 'Without a Trace' was a magical ship. My second online ship. I met so many great fellow fans and friends back then. We even met up in Rome and London with a whole bunch of us. Great times on LiveJournal as well.

McShep from 'Stargate Atlantis' was my most prolific ship. I wrote so much fic and made oodles of fanart for those men. Those were the heydays of LiveJournal fandom.

Buddie in '911' is so special to me. I've been in this fandom since season 1, online since season 2. I have met so many great people in this fandom. The best thing of all is that this is the first ship that actually has a great chance of going canon, while I'm still actively watching and enjoying the show. YAY!

15-What’s a wip you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?

I have this dystopian Without a Trace fic half written in my documents. It has been sitting there for years now. It has the possibility of being so great, but I don't have the will to finish it anymore, because the fandom is mostly non-existant these days. Maybe I'll turn it into an original work of fiction one day. Who knows?

16-What are your writing strengths?

Writing dialogue. I actually hear the characters talking in my head. I just write down what they are saying and it always works out.

17-What are your writing weaknesses?

Finding the time to write! But mostly the grammar, especially the tenses. As a non-native speaker it is a struggle to keep on writing in the correct tense and it's very difficult sometimes to know when to switich to another tense if it's appropriate. It's highly frustrating. I reread and edit my stories up to 10 times sometimes to catch all the grammatical errors. And even then there are still a few that I miss.

18-Thoughts on dialogue in another language?

For some reason I can't read/write non-English fics. I hate fics in my own language. Since the shows I love are English speaking shows, I need to read/write English fics.

19-First fandom you wrote in?

The West Wing.

20-Favorite fic you’ve written?

That's a hard question, because they are all my babies. I can definitely see that my writing has improved over the years though. So I tend to like my last works better than my first works, even when I do still appreciate them for what they are.

I guess the fic I'm most proud of writing is 'To Boldly Go'. It took blood, sweat and a lot of tears, but I got through all 16 chapters in the end. It took a couple of years to finish though. :D

actually i think my favourite thing about the Ed and Stede dynamic is that Ed is IMMEDIATELY obsessed with Stede and while he might not be in love straight away he’s defs into him. whereas Stede is just like ‘wow a friend! i’m sure it’s normal to find someone so interesting!’ (because he’s not had a proper friend before as well as not having been in love before) and he has all these interactions with Ed and they literally kiss and Ed asks him to run away with him and it’s not til AFTER THAT that Stede realises he’s in love. idiot

October Comics Round-Up

October has been a pretty fun month! I really do think that the switch from the silver age to the bronze age was slow and steady, then went exponentially faster once 1970 hit and by 1972 we have an entirely different atmosphere to the comics. The loosening of the comics code in 71 was a huge factor I'm sure.

Action Comics (372-408) (1969-1972)

I love how none of the extensive shit that supes is going thru in these titles makes it over to JLA. Supes has been straight up dead and now amnesia-ed and there is none of that even a little bit over there. Of course this works the other way around as well, over in JLA this man is fighting literal demons from the pit because hawkman had been turned into salt, has met and adventures with zatanna, actual magic user, and frequently says "magic is one of my weaknesses" (not even mentioning earth 2 stuff) and in his own titles he's like "the supernatural is isn't real, ghosts and magic don't exist." Buddy ur best friend went on a whole ass adventure with Deadman a couple of months ago. U regularly piss off circe. The witch. Get it together buddy. Action Comics 1970 give me a main continuity story challenge!

Superman (214-247) (1969-1972)

As of issue 220, Barry and Clark know each others secret identity! In other news, they have decided to take kryptonite out of the equation by turning all the kryptonite in earth into iron! I honestly didn't think it was a long term thing but it has turned out to be one of the bronze age/70s gearshift. I guess they got tired of ever Larry Curly and Moe having a lifetime supply of the stuff. After a multi-part story in 1971, Superman has lost a chunk of his powers, as part of the continued "nerf the supers" agenda.

Superman's Pal, Jimmy Olsen (118-139) (1969-1971)

Made it to Jack Kirby!! And ooooohh my god we are really really not concerned with cloning ethics right now! Last time I read 4th world I sorta skipped all the Jimmy stuff and wow boyo did I miss a lot!

Superman's Girl Friend, Lois Lane (90-118) (1969-1972)

Hey hey hey! Just because you gave up on the supergirl/human!superhorse relationship you really didn't have to go for horse!lois/superhorse!! Bls do not set human!superhorse up as a romantic rival! ..... 106 is really certainly an issue, huh? They start digging more into race politics and anti-racism.... just in the most 70s sorta racist ways (bls for the love of god, stop pushing the 'reverse racism' button.)

World's Finest Comics (183-209) (1969-1972)

Back in conjunction with what i was saying about Action, Superman immediately and correctly notices that a guy has been possessed by a demon from his lack of a shadow, at about the same time that he's like "I don't believe in magic" over in his own title. At 199 this title becomes the Superman + title, like Brave Bold is the Batman + title. 202, we have the reason that the superman robots aren't being used anymore (increased pollution and radiation messes with them too much) which explains a lot because I was wondering why Kara wasn't using her robots over in Adventure.

Superboy (154-181) (1969-1972)

Making a note here, the adult male kryptonians are wearing headbands! (158) now I'm wondering if they've been doing this for a while and this is just the first time I've actually clocked it (this is important to me for future reasons). Loved the Superboy Aquaboy team going full industrial sabotage to prevent environmental damage, in the 80s comics are so wishy washy with the "corporations have rights too" can't just physically force them to follow proper repair and maintenance standards, meanwhile back here in 69/70 these kids are wrecking oil tankers (in environmentally conscious ways). Pete Ross has showed back up! Apparently his family left smallville when his dad went bankrupt, hi Pete!

Adventure Comics (377-414) (1969-1972)

I was all ready to be really grumpy that the Legion took supergirl's spot as the backup in action, but apparel they just switched! Supergirl is now the lead of Adventure!! Anyway, fellows, is it gay for the most powerful computer in the world to determine that ur perfect match is a superhero from another planet, and ur both girls? In the 60s? I'm wondering just where Nasty Luthor came from, when we've met Lena, she's only a bit older than supergirl, and has one son. Did they just make up a secret other sibling for lex? But yay! Kara has graduated college! In 1971, kara is nerfed by making her powers fizzle in and out, which will be interesting to see how that turns out.

Aquaman (44-57) (1969-1971)

Hit the hiatus, it won't pick up again until 77. Thinking about how Aqualad still hasn't got a name, but tbh right now Aquababy doesn't have a name either. And Aquaman is Arthur, but 98% of the time he's just Aquaman, so its deffo just like, an oversight rather than a slight.

Green Lantern (59-89) (1968-1972)

Omg we've made it to the old man road trip era!! This bit is a reread from my green arrow readthru, but I'm enjoying it even more with Green Lantern background! Ahh snowbirds don't fly is such a comic. I have big feelings about it that i don't really know how to articulate, but I really do love the focus on social inequality being the root of crime, it's such a breath of fresh air after the sixties and their goddamn "we put a device in his brain with all of our evil crime chromosomes so we can be sure that he'll grow up to be a criminal, like us!" Anyway I made it to the hiatus so I will see this guy again in 1976!

Justice League of America (61-81) (1968-1970)

And with this, I have caught up to where I was before in the justice league! And a little bit past to get the conclusion for Jean's situation. Now I just have to convince myself that I don't need to reread it all!

The Brave and the Bold (82-99) (1969-1972)

Issue 99 drops the wildest batlore, like Thomas Wayne was experimenting with bringing the dead back to life type shit. A supernatural bonanza that is absolutely not what you'd expect from a Flash-Bat team up.

Teen Titans (14-37) (1968-1972)

Mal!! Mal Mal Mal is here! Also I just wanna say how very wierd Mr. Jupiter is a character. Like... they wanted some sort of mentor figure, but couldn't spare any heros, so here's this old guy, the richest man in the world, and you, teen titans, you're gonna work for him. And he spends all his free time with you guys and takes you around the world with him and you see what I'm getting at?? They are some sort of benevolent Jeff Bezo's private army!!

The Hawk and the Dove (1-6) (1968-1969)

This one was really interesting actually. You get a very thorough view of what the sixties thought was extreme political positions, but it also doesn't forget that the characters are teenagers, so the half-baked strawman positions really make sense for them as they try and figure out what really drives their core values. Also Hank you are the worst goddamn, but somehow your teenage self is more palatable than your 20 something self.

Beware the Creeper (1-6) (1968-1969)

This was very fun! A nice little romp a pretty satisfying mystery, and the Jack Ryder / Creeper situation where Jack is in absolute control when he's Creeper-fied.... or is he?? V neat. Recommended.

Showcase (33-36) (1961)/The Atom (1-38) (1962-1968)

Gave in and went back to pick this up, honestly I love Jean so much in this she's awesome! (It makes me hate identity crisis that much more) The other best character is Major Mynah the bird that ray adopts at the end of the run. And Ray is not so bad himself i guess.

The Atom and Hawkman (39-45) (1968-1969)

The numbering for this mini picks up where the atom left off. Its not so bad, but they deffo manage to forget the Major by the end of it and also in the very last issue a group of subatomic assholes elect Jean as their queen, which to them means "driving her insane." I hate the way that the 60s talks about "insanity" and this is honestly the culmination of everything I don't like about it so... I guess I'm glad that things work out with it over in JLA.

The Phantom Stranger (1-17) (1969-1972)

I am liking this incarnation of the phantom stranger, I was a little worried because of the major religious overtones of 80s phantom stranger that it would be even worse back in the 60s/70s but he is waaay more secular back then. (Not entirely secular, because the xtianity really does sink into everything around here but... less)

Ahah :p Yeah, S-408 is a hot mess without much self-awareness. He does change a little in the end, though. It's not an excuse, but he was so self-absorbed that he genuinely didn't realize how much his abuse and the Smiths' neglect affected Morty. He was like "...wow, they really don't pay any attention to him, do they?"

reading batman #411 has me emotional over jason all over again. i loved seeing him save two-face from certain death, despite having learnt of his father's death just the previous issue (which was 2 nights before iirc).

this is making me wish we'd seen preboot red hood jason have an encounter with two-face. it would've made for a riveting story and also a nice call back to his time as robin. would he spare two-face's life again or would he kill him this time? i know they'd probably never kill two-face, at least not permenantly, but it would've been interesting to see jason grapple with whether or not to kill him.

The s/o (gn) just say Marco just squinting his eyes and s/o just straight up said "you really need glasses" but our birdie was stubborn and said "no no" and the next thing you know, both of them were on a journey to find the perfect glasses.

911 Eddie/Buddie Thoughts, eps 413-501

*a long post and no gifs, I’m so sorry*

Can we talk abt the fact that in 413 bathena have an argument about not being partners and how that parallels eddie’s tendency to be an emotional loner, not revealing his heart until his feelings bubble over? He struggles to trust/confide in others bc he struggles to trust/be honest with himself abt how he feels/what he needs. His reasons are diff than athena’s but it’s still a parallel behavior.

Also in 413 eddie is helping a kid who’s mom is hurting him. That feels parallel at least partially to shannon abandoning christopher which caused harm. Eddie is focused on the kid/christopher, focused on helping him…to the complete exclusion of himself and his needs. This is why he chose to continue with ana supposedly for chris’s sake despite carla’s golden advice. Tho we all suspect that chris doesn’t like ana as much as he lets on/as much as eddie wants to believe. But that’s a side note rn.

Then cut to the end of 413, the gunshot scene. Knowing what we know now from 501, basically eddie taking that bullet is a catalyst. The beginning of the end of loner, partner-averse eddie. It’s the start of him needing to reckon with his own wants needs and desires. He’s not going to stop considering chris obviously but he does need to look at himself his life his heart and what makes him happy. Remember Shannon’s complaint in their marriage was that she needed a partner, and now he’s reckoning with the fact that he wants/needs one too, and not just at work.

There are one or two very grounded non-clown ways to read that gsw scene bc dude was just shot out of the blue and there was plenty of shock and fear to go around. But through the clowning glass, we can also see it as a reiteration that buck and eddie are in fact partners in a big way. They just rescued a kid together just like they’ve worked tirelessly together to save countless other people before him. They are partners. At work. I would argue also in life but I’ll get to that later.

Eddie’s prolonged eye contact with buck, reaching for him. Buck’s shock and terror, staring deeply into Eddie’s eyes and watching him bleed. That whole scene begged the question “now who’s going to save eddie?” Literally and figuratively.

The show starts with the literal answer. buck. It’s finally buck. In 414 he hauled him up, dressed his wound, begged him to stay with him and to live. In Eddie Begins, buck was an onlooker, eddie saved himself in true eddie fashion, but in 414 buck ran point on saving him. Buck dragged him to safety, buck lifted him up, buck stopped the bleeding, and buck served as his lifeline begging him to stay/live.

The other interesting thing I noticed about the scene in 414 in the fire truck on the way to the hospital is that *eddie is not wearing his saint christopher medal*. Buck rips open his shirt to stop the bleeding and the medal is not there. It’s absence is loud af. I squinted to see if it had just slid to the side when buck laid him down but i couldn’t see it at all! Please correct me if I’m wrong.

Anyway that choice, to have the medal not be there or not be visible in that particular scene is huge bc that entire sequence from gunshot to arrival at the hospital is just abt eddie (and buck). In a way, in those scenes at least, buck is wo his armor (firefighter uniform) and eddie is wo his armor (the medal). They are vulnerable in those scenes physically (out in the open, exposed to the shooter) and emotionally (not shielded by their personally meaningful protective items). Combined with the staring and the reaching it’s a big indication that things are abt to get deeper between them (fingers crossed).

Back to 501. remember eddie’s been shot before, in combat. I think what makes the sniper situation important is not just that he could have died (he’s been there done that got the silver star) but that he’s not who he was the last time he almost died by gsw. He’s in LA now, he’s not in the military, chris is growing up, he has the fire fam, he has buck, he’s a widower. Eddie is growing, changing. starting to recognize his emotional needs bc for the first time in his life there’s room/opportunity to do that in a big way and not necessarily have it implode his marriage, piss off his family, hurt chris, or ruin his career. IF he actually confronts himself head on and deals with all the stuff beneath the surface. Repressed. This gunshot isn’t exactly abt his mortality but his quality of life. asking him what’s his life abt and more importantly how can he be his whole authentic self complete with his very own emotions needs and desires embracing love care and support leaning on others. Remember in that one therapy session he had those are the things he wants for chris. Now he has to find and choose those same things for himself.

In 414 by the time eddie is in the hospital, the medal is back and prominent in every scene. He’s back to framing his relationship with buck in terms of chris. But he’s the one making decisions for chris. What he wants for himself and for buck isnt irrelevant here. If it was all abt chris and only chris i think eddie would have told buck abt the will ages ago. If it was all about chris and only chris eddie maybe wouldn’t have struggled so much to say that he made buck chris’s legal guardian if he dies. Nah. I think eddie sees buck as his partner in life too on some level but he couldn’t accept/say that plainly. He had to make it abt only chris in his head in order to be okay with linking their trio of lives together forever through the guardian decision. I mean eddie didn’t even tell buck abt the legal guardian decision bc he was shot, he told him bc buck thought he was expendable! Instead of shaking him and saying you are not and never will be expendable to me, he chose to disclose the will. It was effective for sure. Evan heard him loud and clear. But wow you gave buck a whole ass person, like the person most important to you in the world?? And didn’t say anything until you survived a sniper an effing year later?? That’s a hell of a choice!

Anyway i really hope eddie and buck are on their way to being together bc i can’t take much more of this. Before they get there tho my dude eddie has a lot of work to do this season!

ok, now I'm hurting. wow. I mean, I didn't take into account that Donna was probably afraid of confronting Cameron because that was Cameron's creation. Like, the miniature of situation with Mutiny. Now I need to digest it. As for me I was reading it more like Donna was afraid to confront Cameron because by that Donna would have revealed for Cameron that she depends on her. So, she is not that good without Cameron. Which was too much for Donna.

oh that was for sure part of it too! not feeling good enough compared to cameron, feeling like what she contributed was worth less or that at least people perceived it that way was a big part of their mutiny days. now she made it big and it turns out the reason for rover’s success is cameron. it’s also part of why her initial reaction was so defensive/aggressive. so much happened for donna this season! she really needed a hug (and she got one!)

  There’s a lot going on in that scene, and I think both of those interpretations (and more) are possible. I doubt Donna could even articulate why she dreaded going to Cam so much.                  

  It also shows just how brave Donna’s ultimate “I miss you, too” in 408 actually was.

Buttler continues to do things that we call erratic.

But with Buttler I'm not sure if you're sure he's working because he can hit you everywhere.
