imagine being one of dan’s flatmates in his first yr of uni lmfaoo??? like ok here comes this guy and like the first day he shuts himself in his room to play video games. ok cool whatever maybe he’s nervous. most of the time you never see him bc apparently he has an older friend nearby that he’s always with. when he is in the hall he’s burning pasta bc he’s cooking inept and staring down the washer bc he doesn’t understand how to do his own laundry. oh and he makes videos for youtube where he talks to himself (again this is like 2010). so after barely seeing this man the entire term you find out he’s dropped out of uni. ok whatever you never really think about him again until you’re on youtube and you see his face on the homepage. his video has like millions of views and thousands of likes. oh, there’s the friend he was spending all that time with. somehow he’s become some sort of an internet celebrity??? lmfaooooo. what a serve on dan’s part.
#i’m saying this bc if i was his flatmate i KNOW i would be so nosy#like most of me and my flat mates were rlly close friends but there was one girl who wanted nothing to do w us#which i mean fair#but we still check to see what she’s up to on facebook and like send her life update posts to one another#so like imagine if ur reclusive flatmate became internet famous?? and he has thousands of ppl obsessed with him#even tho once you saw him set pasta on fire#(and now he’s trying to pretend it was someone else)#dan howell#danisnotonfire#dan and phil#dnp#n says shit

I love the Star Trek fandom community and its boundless creativity. That said, I don't think it's unreasonable to expect and give proper attribution when your work is inspired by other artists or a particular niche. There is an unfortunate tendency to steal ideas and posts without giving credit, which is both unfortunate and disingenuous
Part of being in a community is how you engage with other members of that community, and underhanded behavior does not get us any closer to a Starfleet future
"The first duty of every Starfleet officer is to the truth, whether it's scientific truth or historical truth or personal truth! It is the guiding principle on which Starfleet is based, and if you can't find it within yourself to stand up and tell the truth... you don't deserve to wear that uniform." -Jean Luc Picard
#give credit where credit is due#it's one thing if it's a corporation but none of us are famous#many of us are scraping by#Art theft is especially egregious#especially when people have built up their corner for years and someone takes it and pretends it's their own#this was inspired by one AU in particular#not about the behavior of any of my mutuals btw#related tangents that would hijack a post are different#I will find that fb reposter one day#been scraping blog names lately#idk people have taken my ideas before and it sucks every time even if it's a shit post#I went through a bunch of plagiarism trainings and well a lot of this kind of behavior is straight up plagiarism#I try my best it doesn't mean I always do it well but you gotta at least be forthright about these things#I typically don't like subtweeting but this applies to quite a few people#also since tumblr is the internet's incubator posts from here are posted elsewhere then people put the screenshot back on here#Star Trek#fandom#idk come for my mutuals I might come for you just saying

if i could go back in time for any one single possession i have lost over the years i’d have to think long and hard before abandoning the family heirlooms to their fates and going back for a glittery purple keychain i bought in 2003 at a gas station in woonsocket, rhode island of an old-fashioned keyboard/crt computer monitor setup that said “✨ I’m Famous on The Internet ✨”. if you pressed a button on the back it lit up and made the windows xp startup noise.
#see. at the time. the concept of being famous on the internet was ironic and funny#and not something any parent would want for their child#i absolutely had my keys on it and my friends and family were embarrassed for me and i was sad when it finally broke#imagine if it made the modem scream instead

spent an entire morning trying to take down an old account of mine from when i was 13 and it really reaffirmed to me that being famous in this day and age seems like nothing but a nightmare to me. while i was taking it down all i could think was "god, i hope no one ever looked me up and found this, that would have been so embarrassing" but for some reason when you're famous people think it's fair game to dig up ancient tweets and posts made by a random person for their 14 followers like they say something about the celebrity with an audience of millions they would later become. the constant paranoia of what's possibly out there that i've forgotten about by now would send me into a complete meltdown
#most of it was 13 yo girl stuff but there was misogyny too because unfortunately i ended up on the wrong side of the internet#as a far too young child and i didnt know better at the time. 9gag my abhorred#but i just KNOW if i were famous ppl would have found it immediately and used it as evidence that i'm a terrible person#and the second you make one mistake everyone will point and say 'well we already knew she was awful all along'#a nightmare!! a literal nightmare. thank god i'm not famous#personal

apollo could never have a public twitter account while he's dating klavier bc he'd probably tweet something like "i'm just saying if you know they're VERY PUBLICLY dating somebody WHY would you still agree to sleep with them" and then the news will be all "klavier gavin cheated? klavier gavin cheating scandal?!" then later that day apollo has to clarify that "no he isn't cheating on me. we're catching up on celebrity news" and i think this would happen regularly
#.docx#i think they're both little gossips. like they are Nosy nosy when it comes to people they don't personally know#may be the most ooc thing l i'll ever post bc i think everyone gets a little ooc on the internet#me included. i'm a little insane on here but i'm better irl i swear o7#yes i think apollo would vaguetweet. because he's tweeting to his little audience of people who already knows what he means#but sometimes he forgets klavier is/was famous and he is famous by association too#classic 'left my target audience' mishap#also apollo would never use twitter except to check for weather reports probably#but in the event that he DOES use twitter for entertainment#yeah i think this would happen#with that said i'm gonna pass out. goodnight

crying laughing @ this edition of le fantôme de l'opéra that my dad got me for christmas it's just. i don't know how to describe it. every page is a scan of a page of the 1926 edition, with like 1-2 inches of margin around it??? and the letters are so small and the scan is not of very great quality so it's kind of hard to see the words?? interspersed with scans of pictures but some of them are upside down??? there's one page where the scan didn't really work in the upper left corner so it's just totally black???
the back of the book says
(my rough translation: This publication is in line with a policy instituted in conjunction with the BNF (National Library of France) for the conservation of important works of French literature. In service of this goal, Hachette Livre and the BNF are offering a catalogue of unavailable titles digitized by the BNF which Hachette Livre will print upon request.)
so like this is on purpose but i have so many questions. first of all why the margins. okay i guess that is my most important question. why not just make the book correspond to the size of the pages in the original? or, if the size of the book is fixed, you could at least size up the images to use as much of that wasted space as possible, no?
i want to say how ridiculous this is and how there's no market for it but there clearly is one because i asked my dad to get it for me! i'm the market!! i told him to buy this edition because it was the only french-language print edition i could find to buy in the us for less than $50 (outside of amazon because fuck amazon). but like, why is that the case? the full text of this book, in plain text which could easily and legibly be printed, is available for free on the internet. why isn't there some publisher who's just printing that out and binding it? seems easier to do than printing scans. not to mention a lot easier to read!!
(to see what i'm talking about, go to the hachette BNF webpage for this book and click on feuilleter to download a sample of the pages in PDF)
#is there like. some copyright reason??? i'm really baffled by this#i get needing to scan the pictures but the text???#even if you wanted to preserve the page numbers and so forth i'm sure you could make that happen...#just print it in the same font with the same page size as the original. right??? i feel like i'm losing my mind here#it's just. this is an extremely famous work of literature and a manipulable printable plain text version is available for free#on the internet. why is no one printing that??? or why is everyone charging so much money for it???#books#french#my posts#oftentimes when i'm trying to order a work of classic french lit from my local bookstore#the hachette bnf version comes up in the search results. and sometimes it's the only version that does#i've always avoided buying one though because i could tell there was something off about them. the covers look very...#idk. unprofessional? not unprofessional but clearly they are not important. no one is trying to make them appealing#so i was like. not at all confident that they would be any good. but i finally decided to get one because there were no other options#and lo and behold i open it up. and it's this. i guess i was right to judge this book by its cover#gonna try to read this now because i certainly won't be able to read it when i'm old and my near eyesight is bad lol#my near eyesight is already getting worse so i better get cracking

Very tired of living in a world where people have taken the very real and reasonable phrase: "men get abused too" and weaponized it to mean: "every famous powerful man who I personally like that did something bad is automatically innocent uwu."
#I hate that people also have a piss poor understanding of how law works#see: how many people think a case being dropped due to not enough evidence is the same as 'this means this person was innocent'#or how a fucking libel case somehow became about abuse and was televised for all the world to see#or that there were numerous instances of proof that the woman had been abused#but the internet chose to believe stupid tiktok videos with sad trombone music superimposed over them#or that famous women are often ostracized by attaching labels like 'borderline personality disorder'' and ''bisexual'' (I'm not kidding)#in order to make them look as unstable and salacious as possible#i'm tired#and would be terrified to take an abuser to court because of how people around me act

#i have just realized i dont trust any tumblr blogs that are popular like obviously over 15k followers level popular bc#it almost always means they got their followers like pre 2014 when tumblr was kinda cool and full of people and#most of them have not updated their vibes since those days much at all and#anytime i see them posting its just like a reminder of all the shit i dont miss about early tumblr hahaha#like i specifically remember around 2010 when i would creep these incredibly mean and dramatic people with probably tens of thousands#followers and it was so lame and they were always toxic af anyways!!#this is to say that tumblr is actually way more enjoyable to me now that its quieter and getting that many followers is nearly impossible#and i love that its not really a bunch of 'tumblr famous' asshats and mostly just anonymous folks posting on their lil blogs#that is the aspect of current tumblr that truly feels like a remnant of vintage internet experience to me rn#at least in the dn fandom where i mostly hang out#like before influencers existed and everyone was just chillin#p

this incessant need people have of comparing artists and claiming one is better than the other when most of the time it comes down to opinion is crazy
#like i know this is the internet or wtv#but i know if people were constantly comparing me to someone else like this#and saying their music is better than mine i would go crazy 😭#i would probably be chronically offline if i became famous LMFAO#tris.txt

Saw certain tweets and here once again a reminder which a twt mutual luckily wrote shorter than I could (plus public so I can rb bc no way I do that myself on that site)
Also
And if you want smth I wrote myself which is longer and not just abt that here you go
#a wild lux appears#I think they're one mutual who is fine w being screenshotted ik some don't want that#I wrote that bsky thing while waiting for food. Reg the fellow person I talk abt don't bash ppl that already spoke up and stop for a bit#To rb more later. Or ppl that still go to work bc they can't afford not to bc the thing by these actions is community isn't there as net#Or like anyone that shows they care and didn't do anything harmful and just take recharge time or so#Educate willing(!) ppl nicely and don't bash them or send a internet mob to them etc#The ones posting they still go to/buy boycott stuff yeah they're awful but what does bashing them bring at the end of the day#Don't support those ppl yeah but them posting that shows how much they care for it. They prob just want cloud which you give them.#Pressure ppl in power in a way they can't ignore focus on that not no name individuals#If ppl you know talk in private and if they don't want to change literally just cut them out of your life if possible#Online just block. Don't argue w people that just want to stir smth up etc etc#Also I don't think it's too productive to be mad when a standard user anywhere doesn't share stuff. Like yeah give them info abt that but#some either just do smth offline (in that case maybe tell them in this case just sharing online is also helpful) or are mentally too done#and focus all energy to survive (which is intended by the ppl in power. make ppl so done they only have energy to survive themselves so they#don't have energy to speak up abt problems in the world). Bashing famous ppl is completely different bc backlash actually brings smth there.#More ppl could do more if strike organizations would include community care so more actually could not go to work/shopping#Also reg protests so they should know do you know how many don't watch news anymore (I don't watch tv since many years)#I'm sure some also just can't esp younger ppl if they're parents monitor their socials and are zionists#Ofc speak up. I'm just here to say there are explanations. If they read things and still don't care unfollow/block/mute/idc or if you know#Them talk and explain how if is important they speak up#This has been going on for a good while now idk how many still don't know I am mostly pointing that out for new or not as much shared things#Tho I'm sure many don't know bc the standard response is the gov knows what he does and they do propaganda#They think surely the gov takes care of that. If they shut down convos reg that then that is dangerous denialism and living in escapism n#All. Not if the ppl who follow this need a break w fiction or so. I am sure the ppl you try to reach w bashing already muted/blocked all#accs and words associated w that#Anyways I gotta shower now. Disclaimer my personal opinion be an asshole and it's block on sight yada yada.#I just woke up I'm hungry I need to shower but that is also when I decide to share my pieces so

what did chappell roan think being famous was
#everyone has the conversation like would you rather be rich or famous everyone choses rich bcs being famous fucking sucks#its funny how no other like new Internet age pop star is having these weirdly self righteous meltdowns#its funny she claims it's due to misogyny when fucking obviously the only people bothering her irl are girl teens-20 somethings#you can be upset by it obviously its distressing but this is when you start hiring staff like every other celeb#admittedly id be less annoyed if i didnt already dislike her but LOL still
