Animal of the Day!
Pinta Island Giant Tortoise (Chelonoidis abingdonii)
Extinction Date- 2012
Habitat- Pinta Island
Size (Weight/Length)- 180 kg; 1.8 m
Diet- Cacti; Grasses; Berries; Leaves
Cool Facts- The Pinta Island giant tortoise was only found on Ecuador’s Pinta Island in the Galapagos archipelago. These gentle giants would sleep up to 16 hours a day and spend the rest of their time eating. They would feast on cactus pads and fruit along with coarse grasses. Pinta Island giant tortoises were the top herbivore of Pinta Island and played an important part in dispersing cacti seeds. When explorers and whalers first discovered the Galapagos, they released the slow moving and long living giant tortoises made the perfect meal and killed them in the thousands. Goats were later brought to Pinta Island and destroyed the vegetation the tortoises needed. The last Pinta Island giant tortoise, Lonesome George, was luckily saved and was an estimated 100 years old when he passed away on June 24, 2012. Today, every giant tortoise species that remains in the Galapagos are either endangered or critically endangered. Off site breeding efforts in zoos worldwide has boosted their populations considerably although it’s been a very, very slow process.
Rating- 13/10 (Possible hybrid tortoises remain in zoos today.)

Genny "Gem" Tayin
The Solitaire Wizard
The title was given to her by other wizards in recognition of her power and advancements in magic research. She is well-known and well-respected for her age.
Solitaire - Double meaning of 1) gemstone placed in jewelry and 2) lonesome
Wizard - Extremely adept at magic, earning the title of wizard
President of the Crystal Cliff Academy for Magic-users (CCAM)
Gem is, despite her humbleness, a worldwide figure, and even was before she joined the staff team of the Crystal Cliff Academy. At a young age, she dedicated most of her life to studying the magic that's inlaid upon many of the ancient artifacts collected by Mythland adventurers and traded to the Grimlands. Once she learned the basis of magic, she quickly began writing her own modern adaptions of magic, many of which have been popularized today. Now, she understands three magic-based languages and continues to create new spells and potions, but only when she isn't running the Academy. Her dedication, intelligence, and creativity have allowed for other people to use magic in new, practical ways, and the Academy is her magnum opus. She does everything she can to make sure her students are able to learn and thrive in their environment.
Age: 28
Birthday: March 15, 3983
It's the same as Fwhip's because they are identical twins.
Height: 1'13.5bl (5'6", 168cm)
Gender: Female
Pronouns: she/her
Race: Human (Magic-enhanced)
Some humans are born with enhanced Magic capabilities.
Titles: Gem, Professor, Dr. Gem
Gem is her official business name that she uses in World Meetings.

Okayyy I saw some of your tags and now I am very curious (and if you're not comfortable sharing that's fine) about what your fav bts fanfic genres are and if you have any recommendations.
I remember those tags, I was referencing a Jungkook that felt very high school au to me. I struggle with high school au, mostly because it's been such a long time since I was in high school that most of what writers are incorporating in those fics is not at all relatable to my experiences. As much as I can suspend reality and put these guys in all kinds of crazy universes, it's really hard for my brain to read a high school or college au without setting it in my own high school or college in my mind, if that makes any sense? If it's well written and it finds it's way in front of me I will read it, but it's not one I really seek out.
For me it's less about the setting and more about a compelling plot, which can be hard to find. I like angst, pining, miscommunication, make it hurt good. I don't even mind major character death, but I feel like virtually no one writes that and most of what's out there is pretty fluffy. I'm ok with some fluff but if everything is just too perfect minus like, one fight you can feel coming a mile away, I start losing interest. I also *try* to not read tags on ao3 because I like being surprised, not knowing who's going to end up together from the start or what is going to happen. I understand why they are there, but they're not for me. The bts extended universe that gets presented to us is already pretty sanitized and fluffy, I don't need to read it in fic form. Throw in some secret relationships or unrequited love and I'm all over it.
In terms of recommendations, I am incredibly unorganized on ao3 and I wish there was a better way on there for me to sort/review/rank what I've read without it being visible to the author. I have I think only 4 fics actually bookmarked, and I went through my history and there are 1,486 fics in there, that includes several I never fully read or finished but yeah. I can also read most pairings so the options are limitless.
If you like namgi and pining, Verified Amateurs and Practice Makes Perfect by beebalm are great. Yoonjin- Worldwide Lonesome by loindexter. There's a jikook orphaned fic called Circuit that is one I liked so much I actually bookmarked, same with an orphaned sope fic called Same Damn Hunger. When I first got into the fandom I started with a lot of yoonmin fics, and U k i y o by sharleena (it's reallly long) and (feat. Jimin) by dawnstruck still live in my head. I could keep going through my history as my actual rec list is definitely longer than this...if you have more specifics let me know and I'll dig deeper! I'm also always open to recommendations if anyone has any!
#anon i hope this is what you were looking for#sorry it took me a few days#haven't had much time for tumblr or bts this week#i do love a good fan fic though

WELCOME HOME PLAYFELLOW AU!!!!!
It's the year 1969, The Playfellow, a product known to make sentient puppets that serve as human companions spread like wildfire. Here this story is told through the eyes of Wally Darling, a dashing little fella who has been under the protection of his 'papa' (Playfellow Creator, Ronald Dorelaine) and longs to find a life for himself, as well as a whole cast of characters who try to adjust to life in The Big City coexisting between man and puppet (how are they able to live? Who knows, who cares.)
CHARACTERS (So Far)
THE PLAYFELLOWS (puppets who were made sentient and serve as human companions)
• Wally Darling – A Playfellow puppet that was adopted by the founder of the Playfellows, Ronald Dorelaine, who has taken care of Wally since his purchase date. He isn't the only puppet Dorelaine takes care of, as he has Home, an older prototype model who takes the role of a wise caretaker/friend/mentor for Wally. Wally often is taken to places by Ronald to annual events to meet and make children happy, but doesn't really have a lot of friends other than Home. Wally is also going through an existential crisis and longs to find out who he wishes to be. His Gem Heart is Blood Red.
• Barnaby B. Beagle – A Playfellow puppet that takes the appearance of a large, laid-back, blue dog who's serves as a roommate/bodyguard to a divorced comedian who happens to be friends with Dorelaine. He adapts his comedic jokes from his handler but also has a lonesome feeling of wanting something more than the life he lives, but feels trapped with feeling responsible for his handler. He becomes very close with Wally. His Gem Heart is Steel Blue.
• Frank Frankly – A Playfellow puppet who at first appears as a grumpy know-it-all, but is a secret softie with a love for books and bugs. His handler is a librarian who wanted to share his love for books to someone who had a similar interest. Frank deeply cares for his handler and helps out around the library. He's in a secret relationship with Eddie, to which only their handlers (who also happen to be in a relationship) seem to know about. He's best friends with Julie and would visit her whenever his handler goes for a haircut. His Gem Heart is Mustard Yellow.
• Julie Joyful – A Playfellow puppet with a bright, happy, and cheery personality who was purchased by a big, rowdy family along with her siblings (Franny, Bea, and Jonesy) as Christmas gifts for the little children, with Julie's handler being the youngest daughter. She and her siblings work in a salon that's owned by the mother. She's best friends with Frank and loves to have all sorts of styles. Her Gem Heart is Rose Pink.
• Poppy Partridge – A Playfellow puppet that has always had a paranoid personality. She mostly stays at home with her handler, an old woman who recently lost her husband and is looking for an emotional support friend. She often goes out with her handler, usually for grocery shopping, to the park for picnics, or visit her son's theater. She happens to be quite close friends with Sally, who likes to have her in rehearsals for plays, despite her stage fright. Her Gem Heart is Emerald Green.
• Sally Starlet – A Playfellow puppet who surprisingly isn't really owned by a handler but rather a theater known for its stunning performances. The owner of the theater wanted to try out new opportunities, and when the Playfellow puppets got really popular worldwide, he had to have one be in his theater. Sally lives for the stage and has made the theater her only home. Her determination for the spotlight has always made her eager for ambition and to bring newbies along, specifically Poppy. Her Gem Heart is Tangerine Orange.
• Howdy Pillar – A Playfellow puppet that's one you can say "married to his work." Ever since his purchase day, Howdy was always into some sort of marketing business, first with his previous handler (a door-to-door salesman), to his next handler (a happy-go-lucky retail owner), before finally being handed to an old man who owns a run-down grocery store. Howdy is practically a partial owner of the store and helps around with anything. Before his purchasing date, he had a huge family that was ultimately chaotic, which probably encouraged him to be a businessman and a businessman only. His Gem Heart is Turquoise Teal.
• Eddie Dear – A Playfellow puppet that has been taking the job of a mailman and works alongside his handler, a woman named Jen, who also happens to be a mailman. Eddie has a sweet country-boy charm that's hard to resist, yet can be quite forgetful at times (Jen and Frank often reminds him.) He's in a secret relationship with Frank, to which only Julie, and their handlers (who also happen to be in a relationship) seem to know. His Gem Heart is Eggplant Purple.
• Home – A Playfellow puppet that comes from an old prototype model, perhaps even the oldest Playfellow model ever made. Home doesn't really speak in the ways the newer models do. Rather, it speaks in onomonopieas that can be translated into Morse code. Home's handler is Playfellow Founder Ronald Dorelaine. It's a dear friend to Wally and has always enjoyed his company, even encouraging him to try something new. Home doesn't have a Gem Heart, silly-goose!
• Ronald Dorelaine – Founder and CEO of The Playfellow's Workshop, a company known to make living puppets that are given sentience by the power of love, (which is contained into their Gem Hearts to give them a life force) and is currently the handler of Wally Darling and Home. His Playfellow puppet product is a very popular worldwide topic that almost every human has, with the puppets being a companion of many sorts. These puppets are in constant learning mode and adapt their knowledge similar to humans. He brings Wally to annual events and parties to show him off, (mainly because the children love him so much) but often keeps Wally within the company of Home whenever he's busy doing more serious business. Many people often ask him how he was able to create the first ever living best friend, and to which he always says, "A magician never reveals his secret. But, that secret is often helped with the power of learning and love."
#welcome home#welcome home au#ORIGINAL STORY: DO NOT STEAL PLEASE.#I'm planning on writing this soon! :>#Who knows when tho...#maybe during the holidays or even next year....#who knows..#👀

storm, idk if you're still taking fic recs or if you're even interested in bts fic that isnt jikook but from what i can tell you're pretty open and all i wanna say is: this particular fic tore me open, rearranged my own thoughts on what it meant to be queer, and then casually stitched me back together like it was nothing. I have never read anything so perfect. It's also not even 40k so you could read it over a cup of coffee at breakfast. https://archiveofourown.org/works/15227829/chapters/35319180
Worldwide Lonesome by Loindexter
Yoonjin pairing, explicit sex on page forewarning. Excellent fic honestly. Very emotional coming out. Very sweet relationship. No side pairings. (Tae is Gay and Ace, Jimin is Gay, the rest were sus but never came out lol) I'd give it a solid 4 out of 5 stars. I loved it, thank you for the rec! Its a locked fic too, so you need an account to read it 💜 It was a super sweet way to start my day. I don't drink coffee though 😂 I'm a strictly no caffeine girl unfortunately lol and the taste of coffee was never very appealing to me. Thanks again!!

chris evans + him/he + cismale – have you seen tobias carrington around los angeles? the forty year old is usually jamming to a drop in the ocean by ron pope. word around the city is that they’re chivalrous, yet, they can also be lonesome, but you didn’t hear that from me. they’re currently an actor/director and also the ceo of carrington atlantic and are typically seen walking the streets of los angeles with their three year old daughter. when i think of them, i think of piercing oceanic hues , the aroma of invictus creed and the laughter of the toddler following behind . let’s hope the city treats them good!
tw : death , single father , depression , child labor
tobias carrington was born into a very priviliged life , something that a lot of people thought was a giving , a blessing even and even though he appreciated his status , there was things he would have rather have , for example a mother . . .
tobias's story doesn't start out happy , neither does it end with him drifting out into the sunset and living happily ever after. he wasn't even a day old when he started out his life without his mother , she had made his father promise that if it was between him and her , that he would choose tobias and that was exactly what his father did. growing up without his mother it wasn't impossible , but there are just thinks a boy needs his mother for , his father never spoke about her. every-time that tobias simply uttered her name , he would be shot down. until one day , he took a picture from his fathers and kept it in under his pillow , wishing that by some miracle she would come back, that she would return but he knew that wouldn't happen. life didn't result in wishing on stars because the thruth of it all was that his mother was dead and nothing would change that.
the older her grew , the more rebellious he became. he thrived into getting into trouble , hanging around the wrong crowd because he simply didn't want to be cornelius carringtons son , because that was all that everyone ever saw. the future CEO of CARRINGTON ATLANTIC. something that he never wanted , something that he never wishes for. it wasn't until his father became sick , that he realized he only had him . they only had each other and he needed to stop fighting it , he loved his father and maybe this is what really mattered , after all. on his 18th birthday , his father decided to name him COO of CARRINGTON ATLANTIC , it wasn't a shocker at all. it was expected and a few months down the road , he named him the CEO officially. tobias took the company in a new direction , made friends with a lot of powerful people. his last name definitely carried , a lot of weight and was known around the world , CARRINGTON ATLANTIC was a worldwide company , a company that had been in his family for generations.
it was in one of these events that he met the women of his dreams , the women that he knew that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with . they dated for a few months and then shortly after they were married , now building a family was something that he was skeptical about , what if something happened to him ? what if something happened to her or their baby ? how would he be able to handle something like this ? it took some convincing from isabella but sooner rather than later she was pregnant , and everything went perfect. he had started his contract with palmwood studios , he was the male ambassador for GUCCI and everything was going down as planned , until the day that talia was born . his wife bled out during birth, it all happened so fast , they kicked him out of the room and worked on her, while he waited outside the double doors.
he knew it as soon as he saw the doctors face , it was happening again , how was he going to do this , raise a baby all by himself . the first year was hard but not impossible , his father helped him out so much , taught him everything that he learned and he helped , with talia everything seemed to be getting better. little by little he knew that he could do this. it was true that to raise a child it took a village but every village needed a queen , every heir needed a mother but that had passed for tobias - love was out of the picture no matter how much he would have wanted to share his life with someone. . . .he would not subject another person to a short life , simple as that.

boygenius - The Record
Debut full-length album of indie folk / rock from Julien Baker, Phoebe Bridgers and Lucy Dacus
10/13
There’s always been some kind of special aura around boygenius. The trio of Julien Baker, Phoebe Bridgers and Lucy Dacus was forged off a throwaway “pipe dream” that Baker had, which then turned into a booking on the same tour and the decision to record a song together. One song became six, became the boygenius EP, became the calling card for these three young talents on the modern indie music scene. At the time of the EP’s release in 2018, calling boygenius a “supergroup” might have been a little generous as they were still fairly fresh faces. However, the boost it gave each of their careers inversely set them on their way to a supergroup after the fact. Each of them has since released a solo record that’s enjoyed boosted attention thanks to their association with each other. Upon rejoining together in the studio to make The Record, with a few more years of writing, recording, touring, promoting and other experience behind them, they are truly worthy of that title.
But boygenius don’t seem like just a supergroup; they seem like a band that was preternaturally meant to be together. The Record opens with “Without You Without Them”, an acapella three-part harmony that has their voices coming together in perfectly streamlined, silverline beauty; Dacus’ rich tones at the centre and the other two’s more diaphanous tones glinting off the edges, a Megazord-like aural combination. That they sing about connection, sharing everything “until your history’s no mystery to me”, just underlines the mind-melding beauty of hearing them work together.
The next three songs, which were also released as the first three singles, are each helmed by a different writer, and were written in isolation from the others – but go further to prove that the three have some kind of psychic understanding. Baker’s “$20” rucks and bucks with clanging guitars (a new sound for the group) as she sings of petrol-fueled escape and playing with fire. This then segues into Bridgers’ gently stirring apology “Emily I’m Sorry” where we’re once again in a car, someone in the back seat “wakin’ up inside a dream full of screeching tires and fire”. This midnight-hued mea culpa reaches out vocal tendrils of regret into the past, for someone formerly close. Things shift again as we move into Dacus’ “True Blue”, which continues the theme of reaching out to someone special from the past, but the sound is flipped inside out to become glorious sunshine and warmth. Her open-hearted melody and empathetic vocal tone make the central message of “it feels good to be known so well / I can’t hide from you the way I hide from myself” into a blanket of truth that you want to snuggle up inside.
Although the rest of the songs are more collaborative, these three do set vague templates for what’s to come from each of the songwriters. Baker again leads on “Satanist”, the album’s other big rocker, where she makes the offer of “will you be an anarchist with me / sleep in cars and kill the bourgeoisie” sound like the absolute right life choice. The purring, driving “Anti-Curse” again sends her back into an anarchic past – “Was anyone ever so young? / Breakin’ curfew with illegal fireworks” – which soon builds up into another towering rocker.
Bridgers returns to the deep and reflective well that made Punisher such a worldwide smash on “Revolution 0”, a spindly acoustic number that finds her lamenting a loved one’s mental illness and sweetly singing threats into the lonesome night; “I just wanna know who broke your nose / Figure out where they live / So I can kick their teeth in.” The album closer, “Letter To An Old Poet”, again finds her in a contemplative late-night mood, picking over memories filled with violence, but underscored by atmospheric piano and with the three voices coming together perfectly again for the cracked crystal refrain – “You make me feel like an equal / But I’m better than you / And you should know that by now” – it feels like a new wrinkle to her beloved style.
For her part, Dacus is her usual diaristic self on the short but buoyant “Leonard Cohen”, which effortlessly and vividly reaffirms the love between the three women as she details a boygenius roadtrip that went awry but ended up being a fundamental bonding experience. On “We’re In Love”, a showcase for her sweet and classic voice, she details an even closer relationship – but emphasises the fragility of nascent adoration. “Will you still love me if it turns out I’m insane? / I know what you’ll say, but it helps to hear you say it anyway,” she coos, filled with the kind of gentle neediness that anyone who’s been in a devoted relationship will recognise.
All of the above-mentioned tracks are lovingly adorned and augmented with touches from the other members – and made to sound impeccable by the crack team behind the desks including producer Catherine Marks, and performers Sarah Tudzin (illuminati hotties) and Melina Duterte (Jay Som). However, the best two tracks on The Record happen to be the ones where it’s not obvious whose seed kicked it off; the ones that feel like they were truly created in unison.
“Cool About It” is the first of these, and feels like another new style for the trio as they playfully rhyme that titular phrase and interweave verses over a dandy banjo bop in a manner that recalls classic Simon & Garfunkel. The central “Not Strong Enough” is the album standout and the pinnacle of their collaboration so far. Starting with Bridgers disoriented and seeing black holes, via Baker being “scraped up off the pavement”, and finishing with Dacus’ powerful, rousing repetition of “Always an angel / Never a god”, it covers a lot of ground. Despite the defeated tones of the words, “Not Strong Enough” is undeniably uplifting, the power of the trio’s union unspoken in the words, but beaming bright in the way it musically powers through the gloom and out into the sunshine, cruising for pastures new.
Now that boygenius have an album and will be touring behind it all year, they genuinely feel like a supergroup, but that word holds a lot of baggage and expectation. Although boygenius have met and exceeded all hopes with The Record, it doesn’t sound the slightest bit laboured. They may have worked 10 hour days for a month to record and perfect the album, but the finished product smacks much more of fun and harmony than stress and effort. That goes to the heart of boygenius – they’re not a supergroup, they’re just three very close friends helping each other have the times of their lives. And that deserves to be celebrated all the more.

Fic: Worldwide Lonesome
Author: loindexter
Fandom: BTS
Pairing: Min Yoongi/Kim Seokjin
Rating: Explicit
Length: 39781
Recommendation: Yoonjin is a perennial favorite ship of mine - they have a comfortable relationship (usually) built on mutual respect and affection. This idol-verse fic is focused on probably the best conceit I’ve seen in this ship - everyone thinks that Seokjin is straight because no one bothered to ask, and the issue doesn’t come to a head until Yoongi starts bringing men home after the BBMA performance. It’s a good length, solidly written, and I think one of the better characterizations of Jin.

Ear Candle Productions captures JJ Schultz at the Hotel Utah on March 7, 2005, Camera 2.
JJ Schultz is a Wisconsin-born, San Francisco-based singer-songwriter who delivers poignant songs in a lonesome quaver. He enjoys a productive performance life and has produced many records. Here, on March 7, 2005, JJ Schultz performs his songs to an open, interested audience with a few Music Agents roaming around as usual at the Hotel Utah.

Ear Candle Productions is a small music label, video production, and eLearning website. We also have a free, 24/7 global Ear Candle Radio program designed to bring creative ideas to the worldwide public at large.
The owners of Ear Candle Productions are the creatives, John Bassham (AKA J Neo Marvin) and Debra Nicholson Bassham (AKA Davis Jones). We live in San Francisco.
