With a voice like worn denim and a songwriter’s compass pointed squarely at the truth, Emmett Jerome returns with “It Ain’t Me,” a dark, tape-warmed Americana track that exorcises heartbreak and hard truths in one raw, live-off-the-floor performance. It’s the sound of dust on boots, a heart in hand, and a young artist wise beyond his years. Written in a quick flash on acoustic guitar, “It Ain’t Me” captures the emotional aftermath of love gone cold delivered from the voice of a character haunted by what once was. “I related the idea of an emotionally unavailable or heartbroken individual to that of a spooked horse,” says Jerome. “That tension, that jumpiness, is something I’ve known.” From Springsteen-tinged lyrics to the swirling blend of vintage amps, banjo grit, and studio tape hiss, “It Ain’t Me” straddles the line between classic and contemporary. “It sounds to me like it could be some obscure 70s banjo-rock B-side or a Neil Young/Crazy Horse jam,” Jerome says. “We brought in great players rooted in blues, country, and rock. Sydney, Australian-born Kylie Ryan draws inspiration from a wide range of genres and her music gives listeners an ACDC meets Carly Pearce feel with a country-rock flare. Ariana Grande continues to be as hot as ever and just when you thought she might be slowing down a bit we have to think again. Her new “twilight zone” (Republic) is as strong as any entry she has had in quite some time. Better give this some major attention in the coming weeks. The artist we have come to know as Jennie is building a very strong list of early believers for her single “Like Jennie” (Columbia). This has become a real favorite among our music and program directors and the listeners out there are loving this single big time. Sabrina Carpenter continues to rule the pop world and she shows it time and time again. Her “Busy Woman”(Island/Republic) which is really quite autobiographical is off to the races as she passes many on the charts. This one is the one to watch for sure. Drake is back with a single that deserves your immediate attention. “Nokia” (OVO/Santa Anna/Republic) is the jam that I am referring to and if he can keep Kendrick off of his back this one could be a real winner. Bad Bunny is back at it and radio is really responding in a very big way. “EoO” (Rimas) is his latest and greatest and it’s a reminder of just how talented this recording artist is. The single has powerhouse numbers from coast to coast and requests are off the charts. Myles Smith has got a good thing going and make no mistake about that. The new “Nice To Meet You” (RCA) is being met with major enthusiasm. This is a multi-talented recording artist with a very bright future. So far so very good for rising star Myles Smith. Alex Warren is as hot as they come these days. His new entry in “Ordinary” (Atlantic) really puts him in a class all his own. It’s a solid offering from start to finish and the single is one the way to some great things to be sure. Dasha is an act that appears to be taking crossover to an entire new level. Having started at Country to a strong showing, the new single “Not At This Party” (Warner/WMN) is off to the races from Adult Contemporary, Top40 to Country. This is how its done from a record label stance to make it all work on numerous levels. Ravyn is on the move fast and furious with the red-hot “Love Me Not” (ThreeTwentyThree/Atlantic). There’s a lot going on here that makes you listen. Miley Cyrus keeps the fires burning bright with her ever brilliant career. She takes the new song “End Of The World” (Columbia) out for a spin and the results are amazing. Miley is a proven winner over and over again and with this new single you just can’t count her out. Being one’s own genre can be a liberating and inspiring position for an artist. For Robbie Gennet, that means he can stretch from synth pop to art rock to boogie and it all fits nicely under his giant umbrella. On Ghosts, the talented artist’s fifth full-length album release of 2025, Robbie continues his mission to bring the lost art of piano playing back to the front and center. “When I recorded “Need to Breathe”, I went off on both acoustic piano and my trusty vintage Clavinet, figuring one or the other would wind up as the main track,” recounts Gennet. “Turns out, both were destined to intertwine in this song full of funk chaos and frantic lyrics. One of my early influences was the Jeff Beck album Blow by Blow, where keyboardist Max Middleton played separate Rhodes and Clavinet tracks that danced together across the stereo spectrum.
