Babylonian Map of the World (6th century BC), also known as Imago Mundi, is oldest clay tablet map written in Akkadian.
The tablet describes the oldest known depiction of the known world.
It was discovered at Sippar, southern Iraq, 60 miles north of Babylon on east bank of Euphrates River.
This map not only serves as a historical record of the region's geography but also includes mythological elements, providing a comprehensive view of the ancient Babylonian worldview.
Today, the Babylonian Map of the World is housed in the British Museum, where it continues to be a valuable artifact for understanding the ancient past.
Details of the map:
1. “Mountain” (Akkadian:šá-du-ú)
2. “City” (Akkadian: uru)
3. Urartu (Armenia) (Akkadian: ú-ra-áš-tu)
4. Assyria (Akkadian: kuraš+šurki)
5. Der (Akkadian: dēr)
6. Swamp (Akkadian: ap–pa–ru)
7. Elam (Akkadian: šuša)
8. Canal (Akkadian: bit-qu)
9. Bit Yakin (Akkadian:bῑt-ia-᾿-ki-nu)
10. “City” (Akkadian: uru)
11. Habban (Akkadian: ha-ab-ban)
12. Babylon (Akkadian: tin.tirki), divided by Euphrates
13. Ocean (salt water, Akkadian:idmar-ra-tum)

no but seriously if any (or worst case scenario, all) of the ASL actually joined the Marines, Garp would be begging them to go and do anything else, even if that meant becoming pirates, within a week flat

My USAmericans friends I have a very genuine question here... After so many YouTube short and some personal experience with people from the USA I have a question... That might sound a bit harsh but I just don't know how to phrase it better lol no offense
Do your schools teach you something about the rest of the world? I mean, world history or geography?
Cause a few American people I know told me their schools only teach American history (even like when they're studying WW2).
And like, for someone who had two mandatory history classes in school: Russian history and world history, - and a mandatory geography class at which we were learning a great deal about world geography too, it's kinda pretty baffling to me lol
And that geography is not a mandatory class????
#I'm sorry I've watched too many geography quizzes shorts not to ask this lmao#the way someone commented that 'tge knowledge of the capitals of others countries is not relevant for Americans' kinda made me sad#mandatory classes my ass#btw i suck at world history now i don't remember a f thing lmao#a little bit of this a little bit of that lol

- Welcome, archaeological Japanists, to the second chapter of prehistoric Japan and continue touring its mythological and magical places. Once that has been said, put in commands and let's begin. - To continue our journey, better late than never but slowly and with good handwriting. We move to Kuromatayama, a pyramid-shaped mountain, located on the Nakadori Plateau in the Towada Oyu district of the city of Kazuno, Akita Prefecture. - In the 1992s, an academic survey was conducted and as a result, although this mountain is currently covered with earth, it was found to be an artificial structure of about 7 to 10 levels reaching from the base to the top. Additionally, a cavity was found 10 meters below the summit, and it is very likely that someone is buried there. - I hope you liked it and see you in future posts my lovers of the Japanese world, have a good week.

interesting to think about the familiar by leigh bardugo and the pomegranate gate by ariel kaplan as parallel jewish fantasy novels because one is about the jewish families who stayed in spain and converted to christianity and the other is about the families who chose to go into exile rather than do so, but they're both about trying to preserve your history, culture, and the magic handed down by your ancestors
#pomegranate gate is set in a secondary world but it's very heavily inspired by real history down to the events and geography#also hanging out with immortal guys who teach you magic. that's also a theme#pie says stuff#pie reads#the familiar#leigh bardugo#the pomegranate gate#ariel kaplan

We did two things yesterday (three if you count the exhausting train ride back to Tokyo 😴)
One of them was a cat island, Tashirojima!
#I'll put the other thing we did in another post but with some knowledge of geography‚ 2010s world history‚ and my interests...#you might be able to get a hint#(it's a lot sadder than cat island. hence the separate post)#hillbilly japan

In the realm of fantasy writing, the creation of worlds is an art unto itself, a meticulous process where each word, each detail, bears the weight of building something extraordinary. Fidel Castro
Fidel Castro was known as a horrible president of Cuba, and that is true. Fidel Castro always wanted power, so he did that by punishing people. He murdered innocent people to gain more power, and he also overthrew another guy named Fulgencio Batista. He was another President of Cuba before him, and that is why he wanted to take him down.
To continue, Fidel Castro was overthrown from his position in the Cuban Revolution. Fidel Castro was mainly known as a Communist, because he was part of a Communist Party. He later died from natural causes, but he was still known as one of the most powerful Cuban Leaders. To conclude, Fidel Castro was a very unforgiving president, and he shaped a part in Cuban History.

Yanno....
#anntics#these geography quizzes have had me thinking#I really am missing a lot of information about the world. like in general.#I didn't learn any of this in high school. like. history. geography. social studies. etc.#I don't mean in a ''failings of the us educational system'' way I mean in a ''years of intense educational neglect'' way#I didn't go to middle or high school and was not provided with adequate materials or environment to learn#I lived in a remote area with my family and only left to go to church#and it's really only recently gotten to me like. HOW bad that was.#like yeah I forged a transcript and got a good ACT score and lied my way into and through college#I have a degree and I do feel like I earned that#but there is a broad base of knowledge that was offerred to (though not necessarily accepted by) the Average American Teenager#and I just. didn't have access to it.#I straight up didn't get an education between 11 and 18 years old. of course that affected me. why didn't I realize that until now.#anyway. all of this to say. I think I'm going to find resources to learn all of this shit now.

THIS IS A LONG, BUT IMPORTANT POST, PLEASE READ WITH DISCRESSION
.
This is for educational purposes only.
.
.
.
Trigger Warning for what's happening in Congo right now:
• Slavery
• Inhumane Treatment
• Mentions of SA
• Child Endangerment
.
.
.
If you didn't know, right now in Congo people are suffering. Not just suffering, but being completely mistreated, abused, and used as tools. This issue IS NOT new. However, with the recent stream of information from Palestine, people getting educated about that horrific scene, people have brought light to many other issues worldwide that western media turns a blind eye to.
Where even is Congo?
Congo is an African country, located right on the equator, with most of the country running under it.
The DRC (Democratic Republic of Congo) is not to be confused with the smaller country to the left, The Republic of Congo.
6.9 million people have been displaced since 1996, due to violence. Some of which, directly ties in to forced evictions due to cobalt mining.
Curious to how much that actually is?
This is 1,000 dots
See how many dots?
Just with that?
This is 200,000 dots.
Getting into much steeper territory no?
Each of thoes dots is a Congolese person.
This is 6.2 MILLION dots.
They're nothing but pixels now.
This is LESS than the amount of people displaced in Congo.
And Congo is a BIG COUNTRY.
It's not a tiny small one.
It's huge.
I mean, it's as big as HALF the USA.
It's the 11th biggest in the WORLD.
With a population of 95.89 MILLION people.
That means that over 7% of the Congolese people have been displaced.
(Some sources say there are only 86.8 Million people in Congo, such as Livingcost.org, if that is true I do wonder why it jumped down so far!! (This is sarcasm))
That's the same amount of people worldwide currently with college degrees.
These are the mines in Eastern DRC.
As you can see, it's more than just simply Cobalt.
However, do we even know what Cobalt is?
Cobalt
Is a highly used metal. Mostly used in machines, such as saws, batteries, surgical implants, and even paints.
There is radioactive, and non-radioactive cobalt.
"Cobalt (Co) is a hard, gray metal that occurs naturally. It is found in rocks, soil, water, plants, and animals, including people. It can harm the eyes, skin, heart, and lungs. Exposure to cobalt may cause cancer. Workers may be harmed from exposure to cobalt and cobalt-containing products. The level of harm depends upon the dose, duration, and work being done." According to the CDC.
Cobalt should be handled with care, and contact with the skin should be avoided. The dust affects the throat, nose, and lungs. The people of Congo have no protective gear, and alot of the mining there is done by HAND.
These people don't even have
Clean drinking water
And rely on their CHILDREN to make money
(Who only makes roughly 6675.00 Congolese Francs a day. This may seem like a large number, but for some insight, that's 2.50 USD, 3.68 Australian Dollars, 3.31 Canadian Dollars, 359.92 Japanese Yen, 42.13 Mexican Pesos, and 1.93 English Pounds. In the US, you could buy a small bag of chips or a candy bar. In Australia, you wouldn't even have enough for a small cup of coffee. Same for Canada and the US. In Japan, you could maybe get a small coffee or a vending machine food. In Mexico? Same deal. Oh look. Same deal for the UK.)
Imagine getting paid less than a penny after working tirelessly in a mine.
In Congo, almost 62% of Congolese people live off of 2.15 USD per day.
Per-DAY
Not per hour. Not per minute.
Per day.
You need over 400 USD to pay for things you need in Congo. Due to this, children are highly stunted in growth and potential.
The DRC is home to many Indigenous peoples, who are discriminated against and displaced at a high average. They play a hugely important role in the culture of Congo.
Congolese women experience an even higher volume of violence and harm. Almost a third have experienced SA. Only about 16.8% of women have completed secondary school. Women earn consistently less money than men do.
Right now, there is crimes against humanity taking place in Congo. This is an undeniable fact.
How can I help?
Not everyone can donate, but if you can, here are some good places to donate to:
SAVE THE CHILDREN.ORG: https://www.savethechildren.org/us/where-we-work/democratic-republic-of-congo
UNICEF IN AFRICA: https://www.unicefusa.org/what-unicef-does/where-unicef-works/africa/horn-africa?gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQiA67CrBhC1ARIsACKAa8QRSHqTPN6NInqxweJiuzZeiKQPG3EZIJ2TOtJCO9XGGYEEh_D07I8aAsW5EALw_wcB
Other ways to help:
• Supporting Congolese Content Creators, Artists, and Small Businesses, lifting their voices. Listen to stories.
• SHARE- Share information, spread the word!
• There are filters on Tiktok. Use thoes. It's the least any of us can do.
• Boycotting- Don't buy new vape products, don't buy from Tesla, and don't buy from Apple! You don't need the latest Infinity double X loop doop 2G phone. Use what you have already. Boycotting big tech companies comes first.
This is INHUNANE
And human exploitation.
It needs to end.
Please help the people of Congo.
Praying does nothing.
