my energy has been low lately so i've stuck to just liveblogging chapter releases, but i was thinking earlier about why lore olympus really nettles me and it's truly indicative of a wider issue.

it's disappointing that a major ancient religion that is still practiced by some people today has been reduced to a caricature of itself, and i say this knowing that there are thousands of reinterpretations of the greek myths, there will always be a new opinion or retelling of them. retelling the myth of hades and persephone isn't necessarily the issue, so much as the constant and dripping disdain to the cultural roots. we don't need to be greek to appreciate the story, but why remove everything greek from it? why westernize every aspect and remove ties to the cultural roots? why whitewash everything from a myth thousands of years old?

part of the reason these myths continue to resonate with us is because the themes are still relevant today. the loss of a child, the struggle against impossible forces, the (often patriarchal) powers against you, a mothers love. these stories hold power, they gave hope and inspiration, they created meaning and connection, and they were vital to the people who lived in that time, in that place. they will resonate with us for many years still, but stripping the roots and core of it out only makes it a hollow, shallow imitation. it's reality tv with neon colours, no love or heritage present; it's cold and shiny and plastic, and it insults what it claims to portray.

all farmed animals in Elleiz can regrow limbs, so the leg is not a noble cut. but it is tasty nonetheless

the "bell" from bell salad is a tuber-like vegetable, kinda like a sweet potato

Elleiz natives are predominantly carnivorous due to how hard it can be to farm plants in ice planets. the main vegetables they consume are energy-rich stuff like tubers, which is why they find leafy vegetables so unsatisfying

(they do consume leafy vegetables, but those are usually considered decorative ingredients, not main ingredients one could potentially live off of)

I have a headcanon that all the Papyri/Papyruses have a bad habit of not knocking before opening doors. When Frisk is in Sans’ room Papyrus barges in without knocking. Sans usually keeps the door locked so Papyrus is used to door unlocked = ok to enter. I think all it would be the same in the other aus too. Older brother used to locking their doors to keep younger brother out unfortunately teaching them not to bother knocking. I think is a fun headcanon to exploit to create silly scenarios. What do you think? Does it hold water?

I also think it'd be interesting if all the Papyri had the same habit but for different reasons.

e.g. Classic!Sans gave up on teaching Pap to knock because Pap kept getting too excited/annoyed and forgets to knock, Swap!Pap just can't be bothered much to his brother's chagrin, UF!Pap starts off similar to classic but it becomes a thing of not-knocking as a way to catch people off guard (no time to hide things if you aren't expecting someone!), Swapfell probably depends on your interpretation/which version, but you get my drift lol.

SAYING THAT THOUGH... we do unfortunately have evidence that Papyrus is a polite boy and knocks in canon (sometimes) 😔. He knocks on Undyne's door, when he brings Frisk/the player to her house so they can become friends!

I think it's a super fun headcanon even so, but if having this one instance bothers you, there's plenty of ways to work around it. Not to mention we only have like... 2 and a half instances of door opening action (half from that pic from the newsletter that has Papyrus slamming into Grillby's when he's looking for Sans) which isn't enough to conclude much of anything from either way lmao.

Again, I still think that your headcanon holds up, but it got me thinking about ways to incorporate Papyrus knocking on Undynes door into things... sticking with your existing reasoning, you could always have a situation where all the Papyri keep that assumption, (unlocked means it's ok to come in and locked means stay out) and Undyne has simply learned to lock her door lolol. That does bring to mind the image of Papyrus just... jiggling the doorknob for doors that are locked though. Let him in!!! (Now I think about it... this is actually just how doors seem to work in games generally. Most doors are unlocked, and you enter as you please... if they're locked you either try again/find a key or knock LMAO)

Or maybe he knocked because he wants to be a good role model for Frisk... (this pairs well with a headcanon that I've seen where Papyrus putting on a show/playing things up a little [like the date] for Frisk since they're a kid)

TLDR: that's a FANTASTIC headcanon, I love it, and also do whatever you want forever!!!

Muppets make wings

During the 2024 Epcot International Food & Wine Festival, the successor to the Electric Umbrella's Talking Trash Can received a Muppet rebrand. Originally, this talking trash can was located at the Electric Umbrella in Future World. It was removed in 2019 when the building was converted into the Connections Cafe & Eatery, now part of the World Celebration neighborhood. Thankfully, the can returned in 2022, rebranded in blue and relocated to the Odyssey Pavilion as an Epcot World Celebration trash can. It retained its pre-recorded audio track, which plays when the inlet flap is opened. For the Food & Wine Festival, the same updated trash can remains, but with added signage designating it as an "Official Muppet Labs Trash Can," created by "Dr. Bunsen Honeydew PhD. Esq." The can denotes it's exclusively at the "Brew-Wing Lab at the Odyssey, a Muppet Labs Research Facility." Chef Daisy Duck was greeting in the World Showcase today at Epcot. She, along with Mickey and Goofy (also dressed as chefs), can sometimes be found during the first few days of the International Food & Wine Festival to celebrate.

She's an icon of Walt Disney World in every outfit she wears, imo 🤩.

Successful day feasting at the 2024 EPCOT International Food and Wine Festival. Standouts for me this year are the Roasted Warm Water Lobster Tail with garlic butter at the Coastal Eats kitchen (top pic) and the Tostada de Camarones at the Mexico kitchen (bottom pic).
