Never listen to the radio in car but I did this morning and heard that Barnaby Joyce's idiotic behaviour has started a convo about drug and alcohol testing for federal parliamentarians which is GREAT. One independent even said it seemed a bit nanny state :') did you say the same thing when it was suggested for Centrelink recipients or is just nannying when it's you? Also a bunch of Labor politicians sorta went 'kay' because they're not alcoholics and actually understand that public office comes with responsibility.
I know I'm an idealistic because I would LOVE for every policy these dropkicks want to place on others to be bound to them first. You want to cut wages? Cut your own. You want to withdraw funding? Take it from your businesses. You want to drug test people. Make them sit through counseling before divorce? Go ahead.
I'm a public servant. I SERVE. I do mandatory training modules about fraud and sexual harassment. If I was laying drunk in the street in my uniform I would unquestionably be fired for the damage to my organisation's reputation. And yet. Perhaps you can't damage the reputation of federal politicians? They're already known to be fine with raping women in their workplace. For saying one thing about the sanctity of marriage and doing another thing with their own. What more damage can 'one time he was drunk in public' really do?

Almost half of US and Canadian companies screen job candidates for drugs and alcohol, while hardly any European/Asian/Pacific-region companies do. (At minimum, none of the companies surveyed by HireRight for the “Background Screening Summary” section of their 2020 Global Benchmark Report do. They also don't mention statistics for Africa or Latin America.)
Yet from what evidence I can find (much of it coming from the citations on Hazard "Don't let employers get the testing habit" article), there's no evidence that drug testing has any effect on productivity or safety, or that alcohol and drugs are meaningful risk factors for workplace safety.
Interesting. It's almost like random drug screenings are nothing more than a way for low-class drug users to be shat upon by society.
#drugs#employment#the HireRight thing was cited in a business textbook#in a section talking about how drug tests are important for employers to stop the minority of harmful drug abusers#also they cite the figure for EMEA/APAC countries checking motor vehicle records instead of drug tests#that rate is slightly higher but still high enough to make me go 'I must do research and tell Tumblr about this!'#actual citation

The Importance of Drug Testing Services for a Safe and Productive Environment
In today’s fast-paced world, maintaining a safe, secure, and productive environment is crucial, whether it’s in the workplace, educational institutions, or even within the healthcare sector. Drug testing services have become an essential tool for employers, organizations, and individuals looking to ensure the well-being of their environment. These services play a vital role in enhancing safety, productivity, and overall health, and here's why.
Promoting Workplace Safety and Compliance
One of the primary reasons for drug testing services is to enhance workplace safety. Employees under the influence of drugs or alcohol can pose significant risks to their own health, as well as the safety of their coworkers. By implementing a reliable drug testing program, employers can identify individuals who might be impaired on the job, reducing the chances of accidents, injuries, and fatalities. This is particularly critical in high-risk industries like construction, manufacturing, and transportation, where safety is of paramount importance.
Furthermore, drug testing helps companies comply with government regulations, especially in industries where drug use could be a legal liability. Ensuring that employees are not under the influence can mitigate legal risks and protect the organization’s reputation. Krib India, a leading provider of drug testing services, helps companies implement effective and reliable drug testing programs that meet legal requirements and industry standards.
Enhancing Productivity and Performance
Drug testing services also contribute to higher employee productivity. Drug use can impair cognitive abilities, leading to decreased performance, poor decision-making, and lack of focus. By screening employees regularly, companies can ensure their workforce is performing at its best, helping to improve overall job performance and results. Additionally, when employees are aware of drug testing policies, it can act as a deterrent, encouraging them to stay clear of substance abuse and focus on their work. Krib India offers customized drug testing solutions tailored to the needs of organizations, ensuring maximum effectiveness.
Helping to Create a Healthier Environment
Drug testing services go beyond just workplace safety and compliance. They also contribute to fostering a healthier community or organization. Regular testing ensures that individuals struggling with addiction can receive the help they need. This proactive approach creates a supportive environment where employees feel valued and are encouraged to seek treatment if necessary, ensuring that they can return to their roles in a healthier state. Krib India not only provides drug testing but also offers counseling and support services to assist individuals in overcoming addiction, helping to build a compassionate and productive work culture.
Conclusion
Drug testing services are more than just a safety measure—they are an investment in a healthier, more productive, and legally compliant organization. By ensuring that employees are drug-free, employers can foster a positive and safe working environment. Whether for pre-employment screening, random testing, or post-incident checks, drug testing is an invaluable tool in safeguarding everyone involved. With trusted providers like Krib India, organizations can be confident in their drug testing programs, ensuring the well-being of their workforce and the success of their business.

Ron Kilgarlin on Breaking the Cycle of Addiction: Effective Strategies for Substance Abuse Prevention
Introduction
Substance abuse refers to the harmful or hazardous use of psychoactive substances, including alcohol, illicit drugs, and prescription medications. It often begins with occasional use or experimentation and can escalate to dependence and addiction, impacting physical and mental health. Substance abuse disrupts brain chemistry, impairing decision-making, memory, and self-control, which makes quitting without support challenging. Beyond the individual, substance abuse affects families, workplaces, and communities, contributing to strained relationships, reduced productivity, and increased healthcare costs.
The causes of substance abuse are multifaceted, involving biological, psychological, and social factors. Genetics and brain structure can predispose individuals to addiction, while environmental factors such as peer pressure, trauma, and stress exacerbate the risk. Substance abuse is also often linked to mental health disorders like anxiety and depression, as individuals may use drugs or alcohol as a coping mechanism. Addressing substance abuse requires a comprehensive approach, including education, prevention, treatment, and supportive recovery environments to help individuals break free from its cycle.
About Ron Kilgarlin
Ron Kilgarlin is the CEO of American Screening Corporation (ASC), a leading provider of rapid drug testing kits and medical supplies. Since founding ASC in 2004, Ron has been instrumental in expanding the company’s reach to over 27 countries, ensuring that organizations worldwide have access to reliable drug testing solutions.
Under his leadership, ASC has introduced innovative platforms like ASC University, designed to revolutionize drug and alcohol collection education. This initiative reflects Ron’s commitment to enhancing professional training and promoting safer work environments.
Beyond his entrepreneurial ventures, Ron, along with his wife Shawn Kilgarlin, co-authored “Past Tense!- 365 Ways to Put Stress Behind You for Good!” The couple is also known for their philanthropic efforts, including contributions to All Eagles Oscar, a foundation dedicated to supporting veterans with medical treatments and addressing issues like post-traumatic stress disorder and substance abuse.
Understanding the Cycle of Addiction
Addiction is a complex condition characterized by a compulsive need to use substances despite adverse consequences. It often begins with experimentation and progresses through stages of regular use, dependence, and addiction. Breaking this cycle involves addressing the physical, psychological, and social factors that contribute to substance abuse.
Risk Factors for Addiction
Biological Influences:Â Genetic predisposition and brain chemistry play significant roles in susceptibility to addiction. Certain individuals may have a higher risk due to inherited traits.
Environmental Triggers:Â Peer pressure, trauma, and availability of substances are common external factors that influence substance use.
Mental Health Issues:Â Anxiety, depression, and stress often lead to substance use as a coping mechanism. Addressing these underlying issues is crucial in prevention and recovery.
The Importance of Early Intervention
Early intervention is critical to preventing experimentation from escalating into dependence. Recognizing warning signs such as changes in behavior, withdrawal from social activities, or declining performance at work or school can save lives and reduce the societal burden of addiction.
Strategies for Substance Abuse Prevention
Ron Kilgarlin emphasizes the importance of proactive measures in reducing substance abuse. Prevention efforts should target individuals, families, schools, and communities to create a comprehensive support system.
Education and Awareness
Educating people about the dangers of substance abuse is a cornerstone of prevention.
School Programs:Â Implement age-appropriate drug education curricula that teach students about the risks of substance use. Interactive activities and real-life examples can enhance understanding.
Community Outreach:Â Host workshops and seminars to raise awareness about addiction and its consequences. Community leaders can play a vital role in promoting these initiatives.
Parental Involvement:Â Equip parents with tools to have open and honest conversations with their children about drugs and alcohol. Regular communication helps build trust and awareness.
Promoting Healthy Lifestyles
Encouraging healthy habits reduces the likelihood of substance use.
Physical Activity:Â Regular exercise improves mental health and reduces stress. Sports, yoga, and other physical activities offer healthy outlets for energy and emotions.
Nutrition:Â A balanced diet supports overall well-being and resilience. Nutritional guidance can be a part of substance abuse prevention programs.
Mindfulness Practices:Â Techniques like meditation and yoga help individuals manage stress and emotional challenges, reducing the temptation to turn to substances for relief.
Strengthening Support Networks
Strong social connections play a vital role in prevention.
Family Bonds:Â Foster open communication and trust within families. Encourage regular family activities that strengthen relationships and provide emotional support.
Peer Support Groups:Â Encourage participation in programs like Alcoholics Anonymous or community-based recovery groups. These groups offer a sense of belonging and shared experiences.
Mentorship Programs:Â Connect at-risk individuals with mentors who can provide guidance and encouragement. Positive role models can inspire better choices and personal growth.
Policy and Advocacy
Advocating for policies that limit access to addictive substances is another key prevention strategy.
Strict Regulations:Â Enforce age restrictions and licensing requirements for alcohol and tobacco sales. Stronger regulations help minimize exposure to addictive substances.
Prescription Monitoring:Â Implement systems to prevent prescription drug misuse. Pharmacies and healthcare providers can work together to monitor prescription patterns.
Awareness Campaigns: Support initiatives that highlight the dangers of substance abuse. Public service announcements and community events can effectively disseminate this information.
Breaking the Cycle: Intervention Strategies
When prevention efforts are not enough, effective intervention strategies are essential. Ron Kilgarlin highlights the importance of timely and compassionate approaches to help individuals struggling with addiction.
Early Identification and Screening
Conduct regular screenings in schools, workplaces, and healthcare settings to identify at-risk individuals. These assessments can help catch substance use problems before they escalate.
Use validated tools like questionnaires and interviews to assess substance use patterns. These tools provide a structured approach to understanding an individual’s needs.
Access to Treatment
Ensure that treatment options are accessible and affordable.
Rehabilitation Centers:Â Provide inpatient and outpatient care tailored to individual needs. These centers offer a structured environment for recovery.
Counseling Services:Â Offer therapy sessions with licensed professionals. Individual and group counseling sessions address the psychological aspects of addiction.
Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT):Â Combine medications with counseling to treat opioid and alcohol addiction effectively. MAT is evidence-based and highly effective.
Holistic Approaches
Address the underlying causes of addiction through holistic methods.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT):Â Help individuals recognize and change negative thought patterns that contribute to substance use.
Trauma-Informed Care:Â Provide support that acknowledges the impact of past trauma on current behaviors. Recognizing and addressing trauma can lead to more effective recovery.
Life Skills Training:Â Teach coping mechanisms and problem-solving skills to reduce reliance on substances. These skills empower individuals to handle challenges constructively.
Community-Based Support
Community resources can bridge gaps in care.
Peer Recovery Coaches:Â Offer mentorship from individuals with lived experience of addiction. These coaches provide guidance and hope to those in recovery.
Local Helplines:Â Provide immediate assistance for those seeking help. Helplines are vital resources for crisis intervention and information.
Recovery-Friendly Workplaces:Â Encourage employers to support employees in recovery through flexible policies and accommodations. Workplaces that prioritize recovery foster loyalty and productivity.
Creating a Lasting Impact
Ron Kilgarlin emphasizes the importance of collaboration in addressing substance abuse. By bringing together stakeholders from healthcare, education, law enforcement, and community organizations, we can build a comprehensive framework for prevention and recovery.
Investing in Research
Support research efforts to develop new treatments and understand addiction better. Advancements in neuroscience and behavioral studies can lead to innovative solutions that save lives and reduce the burden of addiction.
Reducing Stigma
Combat stigma surrounding addiction to encourage more individuals to seek help.
Media Representation:Â Promote positive and accurate portrayals of recovery. Highlighting stories of triumph can inspire others to seek help.
Public Campaigns:Â Highlight stories of hope and success. Community events and online campaigns can reach a broad audience.
Language Matters:Â Use person-first language to respect the dignity of individuals in recovery. Avoid terms that perpetuate stereotypes or shame.
Building Resilient Communities
Empower communities to take an active role in prevention.
Neighborhood Watch Programs:Â Monitor and report suspicious activities to prevent substance abuse within the community.
Youth Engagement:Â Involve young people in volunteer activities and leadership roles. Engaged youth are less likely to turn to substances.
Safe Spaces:Â Create environments where individuals can share experiences and access resources without judgment. Safe spaces foster trust and healing.
Conclusion
Breaking the cycle of addiction requires a collective effort that combines prevention, intervention, and recovery strategies. Ron Kilgarlin’s insights underscore the importance of addressing the root causes of addiction, providing accessible resources, and fostering supportive environments. By prioritizing education, building strong networks, and advocating for change, we can pave the way for healthier, addiction-free communities. Together, we can make a lasting difference in the fight against substance abuse.
If you or someone you know is struggling with addiction, remember that help is available. Reach out to local resources, support groups, or healthcare providers to take the first step toward recovery. The journey to a better tomorrow begins with a single step — let’s take it together.

Many organizations require employees to take tests for psychoactive drugs, although, some may see it as an invasion of privacy. Some of the hard drugs tested for are heroin, cocaine, and marijuana. Drugs can often be detected in bodily fluids, but there has been some debate about whether illicit drugs can be transferred from one person to another through semen and make them fail a drug test. According to a study done by Leah Klemmt and Anthony R. Scialli of the College of William and Mary in Virginia, certain chemicals in psychoactive abuse drugs can be transported in semen, but it remains doubtful if they could intoxicate a sexual partner. Their study, therefore, remains inconclusive and calls for further research. Psychoactive Drugs Psychoactive drugs are those that alter the mental state of a consumer. Employers will often test you for psychoactive two main reasons: They are intoxicants and can impair an employee’s thinking and judgment. The illegal use of drugs may invite unwelcome attention from law enforcement agencies. Psychoactive drugs can be broadly classified as depressants, opioids, stimulants, and hallucinogens among others; Depressants help users to feel relaxed because they slow down the nervous system. They are commonly used in high-pressure or stressful environments. Alcohol is a popular depressant. Other depressants include Xanax and Valium, which are often prescribed for people suffering from depression. Opioids are prescribed for people with severe pain, but they are often abused for relaxation and euphoria. Common opioids include heroin and morphine, which are highly addictive. Stimulants increase alertness by increasing brain activity. They may also induce feelings of euphoria. Cocaine is a widely abused and highly addictive stimulant. Hallucinogens also referred to as psychedelic drugs; they alter consciousness and can cause delusions and hallucinations. Some well-known hallucinogens include lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD) and tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) found in Marijuana. Marijuana or Cannabis does not fit neatly into the above categories because it has depressant, stimulant, and hallucinogenic properties. However, it requires a special mention because it is the most prevalent illicit drug in workplaces around the world. Cannabis also finds widespread use among artists, who use it to enhance their creativity. It is, however, addictive and may cause lung problems due to smoke inhalation. Business organizations and tertiary institutions have several options for drug testing. The following are the most common screening methods one may be imposed to: Urine Test This is the most common test because of its simplicity and accuracy and it is also non-invasive. The THC from marijuana, opioids, and anabolic steroids can easily be detected by testing urine depending on the intensity and length of use. This is because it is testing for the concentration of a drug above a certain level Hair Test When drugs are metabolized, some of their residue stick to the hair follicles. Hair tests are therefore useful for revealing drug use over a longer period compared to urine tests. This test is also popular because it is simple and non-invasive. Sweat Test For this method of testing, a patch is provided to collect sweat from the body to test for recent drug use. It is mainly used to monitor recovering addicts. Sweat is easy to test but recovering uncontaminated patches may occasionally pose a challenge. Residue Test This is one of the more controversial methods of testing for drug use because it involves snooping. Testing kits are acquired that has a pad that can pick residue from a person’s belongings. The pad is then sent to the manufacturer to test. Blood Test Blood tests are very accurate and their results are more quickly available compared to other tests. However, it is not as popular as the other tests, perhaps due to its invasive nature. Saliva Test A saliva test is a good alternative to test for recent drug use.
The saliva test is reliable for testing for drugs such as cocaine but is unreliable for other drugs such as cannabis. Breath Test Breath tests involve blowing into a hand-held device. They are mainly used along the roads to test for drunk driving. alcohol and drivers at large. Semen and Drug Testing The possibility of failing a drug test due to contact with seminal fluid from a sex partner is a matter of concern for most women. This is so because drugs such as cocaine are deposited in genital organs and their presence has been detected in seminal fluid. However, the quantity of a drug that may be transferred from a 3.5 mL ejaculation during sex is bound to be insignificant. Cocaine is one illicit drug that is commonly used for sexual stimulation. However, the presence of cocaine in semen has been studied but it has not yet been asserted that it can cause a sexual partner to fail a drug screening test. In the case of oral sex, the quantities of a drug detected by a saliva test depend on how recent the sexual encounter took place before the test. However, taking semen orally is safe. False-Positive Results Some people may fail a drug test and blame it on a drug-using sexual partner. However, they should note that all tests have a margin of error. On rare occasions, drugs may be detected by a particular test when in fact no drug was consumed. Such a case is referred to as a false-positive. False-positive cases may be due to many factors such as contaminated sweat patches and the use of prescription drugs. Conclusion There are various categories of illicit drugs with diverse effects on the human body. Some have mild effects while others are dangerous and could be life-threatening. Numerous tests have, therefore, been devised to test for drug use. However, one can be exposed to illicit drugs through prescription medicine and through the exchange of body fluids during sexual intercourse. This has raised concern about failing drug tests due to passive exposure. But because drug tests are designed to test for concentrations of drugs above a certain predetermined level, the consensus is that the quantity of a drug in a teaspoonful of semen is inconsequential. The probability of failing a drug test from a sexual partner’s semen is, therefore, almost nil.

Understanding the Random Drug Testing Program (DOT)
The Random Drug Testing Program (DOT) is a crucial component of the U.S. Department of Transportation's (DOT) efforts to ensure safety, reliability, and responsibility within industries that involve transportation. This program is designed to maintain a safe working environment for both employees and the general public by requiring certain workers to submit to random drug tests.
Tages:- Random drug testing program
What is the Random Drug Testing Program?
The program mandates that employees in safety-sensitive positions, such as truck drivers, train conductors, and aviation workers, undergo random drug and alcohol tests. The testing helps prevent accidents caused by impaired work performance due to the influence of drugs or alcohol.
Key Features:
Safety-Sensitive Positions: Workers subject to random drug testing are typically involved in positions where their actions directly impact the safety of others. These include transportation workers in road, rail, air, and maritime industries.
Random Selection Process: The process is entirely random, with a pool of eligible employees being selected each year. Employees have no prior knowledge of when they might be selected, ensuring that the system remains fair and effective.
Drug Testing Compliance: Employers are required to comply with federal regulations on drug testing and ensure that their employees are not under the influence of drugs or alcohol while on duty.
Testing for Illicit Substances: DOT drug testing focuses on substances that impair judgment and motor skills, including marijuana, cocaine, opiates, amphetamines, and phencyclidine (PCP).
Consequences of Positive Test Results: Employees who test positive face serious consequences, including suspension, mandatory rehabilitation programs, and possible job termination.
Why is the Random Drug Testing Program Important?
The main goal of the Random Drug Testing Program is to enhance public safety by reducing the risk of accidents caused by impaired workers. By conducting random tests, the DOT promotes a culture of accountability and discourages substance abuse in safety-critical jobs.
Conclusion:
The Random Drug Testing Program plays a vital role in maintaining the safety and integrity of the nation's transportation systems. Through random drug testing, it helps protect the public, ensures employee well-being, and reinforces the importance of sober, alert, and responsible performance in the workplace.
