Matthew curls/slutty collarbone-appreciating anon again - BOSTON!!! Home of another rat king! My home! (Not living there at the moment, but I miss it so, if you’ve seen Letterkenny/that one episode with the two dudes from Newfoundland getting all melancholy and homesick when Newfoundland is mentioned, that is me rn. No hard feelings re: Ratthew et al. knocking out Boston, though, I was still cheering for my slutty rat boy in the final.) I hope you and all of the other scholars are having an excellent time! Are you attending/watching any games? Don’t know if the Bruins are home or away tho, I haven’t been to the Garden in years, it’s such a fun venue. Bummed the PWHL team won't be able to play there, but I get it, schedule's packed. (Much as I love Boston, I will readily admit that the fans are… eh. Basketball is probs the best of the bunch.)
Matthew is only escalating his slut phase and I am living for it, that French girl lounging, Matthew is not beating those submissive and breedable accusations (or at least the breedable ones, he’s down for a fight first, if someone wants to wrestle him down and sink their teeth into the back of his neck and hold him there he/I will not be opposed, you know.) And you know, in a post-trade Matthew/Leon scenario, what’s a rat boy to do when he’s surrounded by men who want to fuck him up/probably also fuck him, when his former ?? hookup/fuckbuddy/fuckenemy/boyfriend/baby daddy (????) is all the way in Edmonton, not flirt with them? And of course when you’re a bitchy tank who only gets to play his… whatever Ratthew is to him, best not to think about that, twice a year, you’re not gonna not seize the opportunity/nearest storage closet to chew him up a little. It’s just not done.
I am very here for this vampire AU and neck/throat appreciation/biting. I am also generally here for Matthew the problem child and/or Matthew the generally good and together child whose one moment of rebellion is bringing home a nightmare boyfriend and/or Matthew with daddy problems or at least an adrenaline/danger kink whose constitution is incapable of not goading hot vampire into trying to bite him. And hot vampires cannot be blamed, he is flashing an irresponsible amount of collarbone as is.
hello again anon! yay boston!! absolutely one of my favorite cities. i am home now and even though i love home i am missing it already. just a lovely place to spend a lovely long weekend with lovely friends (whom i also miss already 😭😭😭). i am, i'm sorry to tell you, anti-boston sports (me being an east coaster NOT from boston, i feel like this shouldn't be a surprise), but y'all do always seem have a handful of players i love anyway, and even i must admit fenway is one of the most fun ballparks i've ever been to. the bruins sadly were not in town, but we went to the bc vs. denver game on saturday, and on sunday we schlepped out to worcester for a railers game, and both of those were very fun 💞
but onto the more important topic: our beloved rat boy. a concept related to your original ask i am currently mulling over is one where they are Totally Just Frenemies Who Occasionally Sleep Together (they used to be rivals who occasionally slept together but leon is not going to call anyone who plays in florida a "rival") which means that matthew can fuck whoever he wants. and does. and tells leon all about it while they hook up, and for some reason comes out of these hookups looking like leon tried to eat him alive. perhaps he will need to invest in a tshirt that he hasn't mutilated so that he can talk to the media in the days afterward without showing off all the teeth-shaped bruises he seems to have acquired. surely this all means nothing. 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️
i have a couple of other asks about the vampire leon extended universe so i am going to save my thoughts about THAT for answering those so i can stick them all in their own tag 😅 thank yoooouuuu for the ask though!! 💖

BLOOMINGTON BISON NAME TEAM CAPTAINS
By: Andy Zilch, Bloomington Bison Bloomington, Ill. - Bloomington Bison General Manager and Head Coach Phillip Barski announced today that Eddie Matshushima has been named captain, and Jonny Evans has been named assistant captain.   Matsushima, 30, played the previous three seasons with the Tulsa Oilers, leading the team in goals in the last two seasons. Last season, he skated in two games for the San Diego Gulls, making his AHL debut on March 6 vs. Coachella Valley. “Eddie exemplifies what we expect from this organization and aligns with our values and culture that we are building. We are proud to name him the first captain in franchise history,” General Manager and Head Coach Phillip Barski said. “He has the utmost respect for the game, cohesive attitude towards his teammates, and demands the best from him and others around him. He will not only be a strong leader for our team but be an outstanding member to the community of Bloomington.” The Verona, Wisconsin native has earned 68 goals, 72 assists (140 points), and 133 penalty minutes in 190 career ECHL games with the Oilers, Orlando Solar Bears, Maine Mariners, and Worcester Railers. In 2022-23, he set career highs in points with 47 and games played with 65 while representing the Oilers in the ECHL All-Star Classic. “I am honored to be named the inaugural captain of the Bison,” said Matsushima. “I want to thank Coach Barski and the Hallett family for their belief in me. We have a wonderful group of players, and I look forward to working hard together to achieve our goal of success.” The 5-11, 185-pound forward appeared in 67 career SPHL games with the Pensacola Ice Flyers, collecting 24 goals and 39 assists (63 points) and 53 penalty minutes. In 2020-21, Matsushima helped the Ice Flyers clinch the organization’s fourth President’s Cup Championship. He also earned SPHL Second All-Star Team honors.  Evans, 27, played the previous three seasons with the Stingrays, amassing 34 goals and 54 assists (88 points) in 105 career ECHL games. His 45 points last season ranked fourth on the team. “Since the first conversation I had with Jonny, I found maturity, responsibility and a deep care for what he brings to the rink on a day-to-day basis,” Barski continued. “His voice and ability to lead by example will provide a great culture to our locker room and younger players. I couldn’t be more thrilled to not only have him apart of this franchise but as a leader for our club.” The Delta, British Columbia native played four seasons at the University of Connecticut, totaling 37 goals and 42 assists (79 points) in 106 collegiate games. “I’m grateful to be named to the leadership group of the Bison,” Evans commented. “I understand it is a privilege to wear a letter and the responsibilities it comes with. I am prepared to help our group work as one to become the best athletes and members of the community.” Single game seats are on sale now as the Bison welcome the Toledo Walleye for Opening Weekend on Saturday, October 19, at 7 p.m. and Sunday, October 20, at 3 p.m. For more ticket information, visit bloomingtonbisonhockey.com, ticketmaster.com, or call (309) 965-HERD to purchase Opening Weekend tickets. Wheeling Nailers Announce 2024-25 ScheduleWheeling
Tumblr media
The Wheeling Nailers, proud ECHL affiliate of the Pittsburgh Penguins, have announced their schedule for the 2024-25 season - the 33rd season of professional hockey in Wheeling. Throughout the years, the Nailers have prided themselves on having a schedule that caters to families, and that will once again be the case in 2024-25, as 34 of the 36 home games will be played on weekends or holidays. The only two outliers are Education Day games, which will take place in November and March, with the puck hitting the ice at 10:45 a.m. Home game times will remain the same as they have been in previous seasons, as Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday games will begin at 7:10, Sunday games will begin at 4:10, and New Year's Eve will begin at 6:10. One of the biggest adjustments for the coming season will be a change in divisions, as Wheeling has been shifted to the North Division, where it will join Adirondack, Maine, Norfolk, Reading, Trois-Rivières, and Worcester. While the Nailers will play 31 of their 72 games against that division, they will also maintain their geographic rivalries from the Central Division, as that group of teams makes up 33 of the 72 games on the docket. The remaining eight contests will feature a mix of the South and Mountain Divisions. The most frequent opponents are Reading (11) and Cincinnati (9), while Bloomington and Trois-Rivières will be first-time match-ups. The first five games will be played on enemy ice, as Wheeling will serve as the opposition for three teams' home openers. The season begins in Portland, Maine with a two-game series against the Mariners on October 18th and 19th. The following weekend will be significantly closer to home, as the Nailers will battle Reading on October 26th and 27th. The final tilt in that stretch will be November 1st in Toledo. For the second straight season, the home slate will begin in November, and fans will get an early look at one of the league's expansion clubs, as the Bloomington Bison will come to town for the home opener on the 2nd. The following weekend will feature the first ever trip to the Friendly City for the Trois-Rivières Lions on the 8th and 9th. Fort Wayne will be the first Education Day opponent on the 12th, before the Indy Fuel make their lone visit to Wheeling for a couple of playoff rematches on the 15th and 16th. Toledo is the Thanksgiving Eve opponent for the second year in a row on the 27th, which leads into a home-and-home series against Cincinnati to close out the month. The Black Friday road game in Cincinnati will be a 1:35 start time. December has an even split of six home games and six road games. Kalamazoo makes its lone trip to WesBanco Arena on the 6th, before Reading's first of seven visits on the 8th. If anyone has hockey on their list for the holidays, the Nailers have the perfect gift in mind, as they will play seven games in 12 days from the 20th-31st. Four of those take place on home ice, starting with the first of a home-and-home set against Toledo on the 20th. Next up on the home docket will be the only two clashes with the Iowa Heartlanders on the 28th and 29th. 2024 concludes with the annual New Year's Eve game, which will feature Reading as the opposition for the fifth time. With the exception of one contest at the end, the entire month of January will be played in series. The month begins with the only two meetings between Wheeling and the Norfolk Admirals on the 3rd and 4th at Norfolk Scope Arena. The following week, on the 8th and 10th, the Nailers will play a familiar foe in the Indy Fuel, but will do so in a new venue, as Fishers Event Center is set to open in December. The team will then sprint back home to Wheeling, where the Worcester Railers will be waiting for them on the 11th and 12th. That will turn into a four-game home-and-home series between the Nailers and Railers, who will play the other two matches in Massachusetts on the 18th and 19th. The home portion of the month concludes with the second ever visit from the Western Conference Champion Kansas City Mavericks on the 24th, 25th, and 26th. January ends and February begins with a good old fashioned 3-in-3 in three different cities, as Wheeling will bounce from Cincinnati to Fort Wayne, and then on to Toledo. A quick trip over to Indy the following week leads into a home clash with Reading on the 8th. The Nailers will then get to enjoy some southern hospitality, as they will visit the South Carolina Stingrays on the 15th and the Greenville Swamp Rabbits on the 16th and 17th. When the squad returns, it will be greeted by Tulsa on the 21st and 22nd, as the Oilers visit Nail City for the second straight season. That weekend concludes with a Sunday showdown against Reading on the 23rd. One of the longest homestands of the season closes out February and kicks off March, as Wheeling will play three more home games on the 28th, 1st, and 2nd. Adirondack starts things off on Friday and Saturday, then Maine puts the bow on the weekend on Sunday. More Thunder will be in the forecast the next week, as the Nailers will face Adirondack for three on the road on the 7th, 8th, and 9th. The second Education Day game of the season will also be a lesson in French, as Trois-Rivières returns on the 12th. There will be three more home games that weekend - two with Fort Wayne on the 14th and 15th, then one against Cincinnati on the 16th. A three-game journey to Toledo and Indy leads into the final homestand of the regular season, which will be another six-game stretch spanned over two weekends. Cincinnati (28th & 29th) and Bloomington (30th) will be the visitors for the first weekend, then Reading is in the house for the back half on April 4th, 5th, and 6th. The last series of the regular season will take Wheeling out of the country, as the Nailers will visit the province of Québec for the first time to face the Lions on April 11th, 12th, and 13th. 2024-25 Opponent Breakdown11 vs. Reading - 7 home, 4 away9 vs. Cincinnati - 4 home, 5 away7 vs. Toledo - 2 home, 5 away6 vs. Indy - 2 home, 4 away6 vs. Trois-Rivières - 3 home, 3 away5 vs. Adirondack - 2 home, 3 away5 vs. Fort Wayne - 3 home, 2 away4 vs. Worcester - 2 home, 2 away3 vs. Kansas City - 3 home3 vs. Maine - 1 home, 2 away2 vs. Bloomington - 2 home2 vs. Greenville - 2 away2 vs. Iowa - 2 home2 vs. Kalamazoo - 1 home, 1 away2 vs. Norfolk - 2 away2 vs. Tulsa - 2 home1 vs. South Carolina - 1 away 2024-25 Schedule Fri. NHL's Johnny Gaudreau Dies at Age 31; Brother Matthew Gaudreau Dies at 29
Adam Wells August 30, 2024
Columbus Blue Jackets winger Johnny Gaudreau, 31, and his brother Matthew, 29, died Thursday.
The Blue Jackets confirmed the deaths of both men in a statement released Friday morning.
Per ABC 6 in Philadelphia, New Jersey state troopers confirmed Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau were killed when a vehicle hit them while they were riding their bikes around 8:30 p.m. local time on Thursday night.
The driver of the vehicle "is suspected of being under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash," police said, according to ABC.
The Calgary Flames originally selected Gaudreau in the fourth round of the 2011 NHL draft. Gaudreau made his NHL debut with the Flames on the final day of the 2013-14 regular season. He became a full-time player in 2014-15, earning a spot on the All-Rookie team in his first full season.
After spending the first nine seasons of his career with the Flames, Gaudreau signed a seven-year contract with the Blue Jackets as a free agent. He appeared in 161 games over the past two seasons with Columbus.
Gaudreau appeared in a total of 763 games over 11 seasons in the NHL. He scored 743 points, with a career-high 115 coming during the 2021-22 campaign.
Matthew Gaudreau was a professional hockey player in the ECHL. He most recently played for the Worcester Railers during the 2021-22 season. He also played one season for the Reading Royals.
The tragedy struck one day before the Gaudreau brothers were set to take part as groomsmen in their sister Katie’s wedding to hockey player Devin Joyce in Gloucester City, N.J.
Oh my god it’s true

There's honestly nothing that makes me laugh as much as the bizarre names that minor league (NA) sports teams have. Here are a few choice excerpts from minor league and junior league hockey:
ECHL:
Worcester Railers (so oddly sexual)
Florida Everblades (ah the pun)
Savannah Ghost Pirates (too many living pirate teams)
Wheeling Nailers (I hope they regularly play the Railers)
LNAH (Quebec)
Saint-Georges Cool FM 103.5
WHL (Canada)
Brandon Wheat Kings
I don't know who's naming these teams, but I wish the major league teams had as many silly names.

Worcester, MA – The Worcester Railers Hockey Club, proud ECHL affiliate of the New York Islanders, and Railers HC General Manager and Head Coach Jamie Russell officially announced today that the club has signed defenseman Chris Rygus to an ECHL contract for the 2019-20 season.
The 25-year-old enters his second pro season after spending last season in the ECHL with the Fort Wayne Komets and Jacksonville IceMen recording five points (1-4-5) along with 38 PIMS in 23 games.
Prior to turning pro, the 6-3 defenseman played college hockey for four seasons at St. Norbert College from 2014-18 recording 27 points (8-19-27) along with 120 PIMS in 117 games. He was a member of the 2018 National Championship team who beat Salve Regina in double overtime.
“We are happy to have Chris join the Railers this season,” Russell said. “He is a big steady defender who will add depth to our back end.”
The Railers now have 13 players signed for the 2019-20 season as Rygus joins Barry Almeida, Connor Doherty, Kyle McKenzie, Drew Callin, Ross Olsson, Bo Brauer, Ivan Chukarov, Kyle Thomas, Anthony Florentino, Henrik Samuelsson, Matt Schmalz, and Cody Payne as the signees.

The ECHL team in my city did a paint night as a break between playoff games and just look at how cute they are! Some of them just look so proud of themselves and it makes me happy.
