Blankets for a Greener World: Adopting Sustainability in Bedding
In today's world, sustainability has become more than just a trend; it's a way of life. As we all strive to make environmentally conscious choices, our focus on sustainability extends to every corner of our lives, including our homes. Bedding, especially blankets, plays a significant role in this endeavor. In this blog post, we'll look into into the world of sustainable bedding, focusing on blankets and how they can contribute to a greener world.
Introduction
Sustainability isn't limited to what we eat or drive; it extends to our homes. It's about making choices that reduce our environmental impact and promote a healthier planet. This includes everything from energy-efficient appliances to sustainable building materials. But today, we're focusing on a less obvious yet equally significant aspect of a greener home – bedding, specifically blankets.
The Environmental Impact of Bedding
We might not often think about it, but traditional bedding materials can have a significant environmental footprint. Consider the resources and processes that go into producing these materials. For example, cotton used in blankets may be grown with the heavy use of pesticides and water. The production and transportation of bedding materials also contribute to carbon emissions. Sustainable bedding materials aim to reduce these impacts.
Sustainable Blanket Materials
Sustainable blankets are crafted using materials that are kinder to the environment. These materials include organic cotton, recycled fibers, bamboo, hemp, and more. Each material has unique benefits, from reduced pesticide use in organic cotton to recycling existing materials in recycled fiber blankets. Compared to traditional materials, these sustainable alternatives often come out as more eco-friendly.
Sustainable Blanket Brands
Embracing sustainability doesn't mean sacrificing quality or comfort. Many brands have recognized the importance of eco-friendly choices in bedding. They source their materials responsibly and manufacture their products with the environment in mind. Some even go the extra mile by obtaining eco-friendly certifications and adhering to strict sustainability standards.
The Art of Upcycled Blankets
Upcycling is one of the most creative ways to embrace sustainability in bedding. Upcycling involves taking textile scraps or old fabrics and transforming them into beautiful, functional blankets. It's an excellent way to breathe new life into old materials and reduce waste. Each upcycled blanket is a unique piece of art, preserving memories and reducing the need for new production.
Blanket Care and Longevity
Sustainability isn't just about the materials used; it's also about how we care for our possessions. Sustainable blankets can last a long time if properly maintained. By following a few simple tips, we can extend the lifespan of our blankets, reducing the need for frequent replacements and, in turn, lowering our environmental impact.
Blankets and Interior Design
Blankets aren't just for keeping warm but also essential elements of interior design. Sustainable blankets can be incorporated into eco-conscious home decor. Their earthy tones and natural textures add warmth and a touch of nature to your living space, making it stylish and environmentally friendly.
Making Informed Choices
When shopping for sustainable blankets, it's essential to consider various factors. These include the materials, the brand's commitment to sustainability, and the product's certifications. Making informed choices is about selecting the right blanket and supporting businesses that prioritize sustainability.
Supporting Artisans and Fair Trade Blankets
In sustainable bedding, there's a strong emphasis on fair trade practices and supporting local artisans. These practices not only ensure that workers receive fair wages and safe working conditions but also promote the use of sustainable materials. When you choose fair trade blankets, you support a system that values people and the planet.
Conclusion
The choices we make for our homes matter. They impact our lives, our well-being, and the planet. Sustainability in bedding, particularly with blankets, is a vital step towards a greener world. By opting for sustainable materials, supporting eco-conscious brands, and making informed choices, we can contribute to a healthier planet without compromising comfort and style. Sustainability is not a trend; it's a responsibility we all share. So, let's wrap ourselves in eco-friendly blankets and create a cozier, greener world for future generations.

You're terrible.
Impatience is for the Devil, child. And you are his most impatient creature. Another one of Sister Frances’ charming epithets Wrapped in a blanket that she’s sure feels like raw steel wool, helpless to the whims of nuns who can’t stand her ,and a best friend who tolerates more than she’s worth, Ava has two weapons: her eyes and her mouth. She decides to break out the eyes. She bats them a few times, lets them water just a little. Beatrice’s eyes narrow into slits. “Don’t you dare, Ava Silva.” Okay, her mouth. “Bea,” she says softly. “I’m not asking for much.” “You’re asking for me to write a letter to the enlistment office, requesting you be considered for an experimental program that aims to produce super soldiers.” Beatrice’s mouth thins into a line. “That is… much.” “It’ll get thrown out.” “Then why try?” “Because I have to.” The words come out of her like a fountain erupting. She blinks, the tears in her eyes not manufactured this time.  She wishes she could move closer, pick up Beatrice’s hand in hers— she’s wondered for a long time if Beatrice’s hands still feel like they did when they were seven and running through the streets avoiding older boys looking to cause trouble and Beatrice’s parents ire. She can remember them, soft as the softest coat in Ava’s mom’s closet, and how small they were. Now her hands are bigger, silver slivers across her knuckles that Ava only sees when Beatrice lifts her hands to tuck the blanket a little higher around Ava’s shoulders. But she can’t. She may never again. Dr. Salvius’ program is her shot in the dark.

Well... colour me disappointed. I've been wanting to tackle maybe making a larger crochet project like a sweater and finally bit the bullet and ordered some yarn to try it out. Went with a mostly-cotton yarn because I do love the weight and drape of cotton. Went with this particular cotton yarn - despite having to pay import and shipping fees to order from the US for it - because I really liked the heathered look it has and figured it'd work up pretty attractively.
I was not prepared for how much finer DK yarn is than regular worsted (when I was previously doing crocheting 20+ years ago all my purchases were in-store and vibe-based so I've only got the vaguest ideas so far on wool sizes and necessary amounts). This 6 skein bundle is supposed to be enough yarn to make either a baby blanket or an adult sweater (852 yards) and all I can think looking at this is "must be a pretty darn small adult".
I am now going back and forth on seeing just how much of the sweater I had in mind this'd actually make (I was already thinking there'd be a good chance I'd need to order a second batch since I am far from a small woman), or to abort and make something like a cowl instead. I suppose I might as well try the sweater first anyway, to give me a better idea of how far this much DK actually goes, and then once I know that, can decide whether I like it enough to either order more if necessary, or frog it and reuse the yarn for something else.
Though I'm very happy with one of the other things I ordered at the same time; a yarn spinner, not as in an umbrella swift or a yarn winder, both of which I already purchased over the summer, but one of those rotating wooden thingamajiggers that has a part that looks like a paper towel holder that you stick through your ball of yarn, and then it hangs via a very strong magnet from a base so that it turns to release more yarn as you work, like so:
Tumblr media
Tried it out already and it. Is. AWESOME. Highly highly recommend. I think the only disclaimer I'd make on it is be sure to check reviews, since if the manufacturer skimps on the magnet strength that'd be an issue (I did check reviews, and went with the one that didn't have people complaining about the suspended part dropping loose).

A thought
Cybernetics and 3d printing and regenerative medicine are going to overlap in a way that some may consider disgusting, but is actually absolutely fantastic.
Okay, so. Currently, we grow agricultural animals for food, and byproducts, like wool. Be it sheep wool, alpaca wool, llama wool, cow leather, horn, etc.
We do not currently farm some animals, despite their superior quality, because doing so is difficult. Like spiders for silk. Yes we do have silkworms and things, but it's not the same.
Nature and animals have manufactured exotic things just as a consequence of adaptation and survival for hundreds of millions of years, and some extremophiles have devised strategies that fit into nature yet offered absolutely surreal amounts of mastery over any given thing. Be it gecko feet being adhesive free super sticky pads, or camouflage, or what have you, or the strongest teeth in nature belonging to a SNAIL.
And they don't use exotic ingredients; they just use common everyday basic minerals and ways to express them at ultrafine molecular levels that make them biologically. So.. It stands to reason, someone that can organize and program proteins and cultures of meat, could program structures to grow these things in controlled conditions.
If you're not picking up what I'm putting down here, I think we're going to have 3d printers that use animal proteins as a base in a chemical nutrient sludge to start them, and then grow those special parts of an animal like they're on a mutant specimen that just so happens to only be, for example, a sheep's skin. So you grow these absolutely enormous sheets of wool uniformly without the necessity of taking care of hundreds of sheep.
Now, logically there's no need for that; you're fighting with agriculture for blankets and shit. Unless you're a psychotic vegan trying to crash the natural grown wool market and ruin profit margins for sheep herders, there are so many better, more exotic and difficult to acquire things you COULD be doing with the technology. For example, you could have the 3D bio-printer make snake venom to make antivenins. You could have this synthetic pit made of viper DNA that is just a gigantic venom gland, literally producing as much venom as the entire family of snakes produce in a year, or have ever produced since nature gave us snake with venom as a defense mechanism.
Isn't that fucking wild?
Or how about an entire tunnel lined with bacteria and acid producing pumps leading to an enormous series of artificial bowels that do nothing but turn food waste into forms of methane that can be sequestered and made useful, dealing with the problem of breaking down bio-matter without intense heat, fires, smoke, or atmospheric contaminants? Dealing with every bit of garbage for unutilized calories and preventing it from just producing millions of tons of methane in a landfill, which pound for pound/kilogram for kilogram can be worse for the atmosphere and the environment than millions of cars on the road? Because organic structures made to exist independent of an animal could do that.
In theory there'd be no biohazard elements, it'd be as dangerous as having a goat die. Yes there's some risk of bacteria and shit, but. it's just a dead body, not a nuclear wasteland.
And speaking of nuclear wasteland; What about artificially generated biological containers for bacteria that consume radioactivity? Imagine some sort of techo-organic GI tract that could consume the Elephants Foot faster than that bacteria have eaten it where it currently lays in Chernobyl. Nuclear waste that would've taken tens of thousands of years, or centuries after vitrification, gone in months.
Organic 3d printing is so much more than just the ability to rapidly fabricate cloned hearts, nerves or any other organ.

Okay so the stuff under the cut needed to get out there, get off my chest, but you don't have to read it.
The tl:dr; MY LIFE IS GREAT NOW OMG
I woke up cold repeatedly last night. Partly because I do not live in a building with modern climate control. Partly because the sheets/bedding I own were purchased for me, not by me. The person who purchased them wanted to buy me a status symbol, and to their credit tried to strike a compromise between what I like and what they wanted for me, but honestly?
They bought me the type of thing that an American would say "yea that's totally winterproof" and meanwhile it only works to -3. You know, the kind of thing that says "four seasons" on it, but that's only true if the four seasons are south of the border. This would have been fine if I lived in a modern home with modern HVAC.
So I wake up tired and cranky and having an imaginary argument with someone who isn't in my life anymore. I was never allowed to say no to them. I was trained to beg them for a better solution, instead of buying my own. It was a terrible start to the day - I felt young and powerless and stupid.
Duvet shopping at 3 am was fun. Down is fluffy, wool is heavy. I wanted wool. I found one manufacturer selling a winter weight wool blanket (not four seasons!) and it was $400. My finances are... I mean I'm fine, but I can't just go do that right now. After Christmas maybe. I put the laptop away and distracted myself with Stardew Valley and hot tea until it was time for work.
My friend bought the duvet for me. As a Christmas gift. I am so blessed.
I have a lot of plans for the new year, plans that will help me buy the solutions I need to my own problems. Therapy is going well. I had a rough start today, but that's not the end of the story, that's not who I am as a person. It was just a rough night. I'm finally in a good enough spot to say that.
To all the people who I hope clicked right past this and didn't read, and to those few who chose to open this and read it all: I hope you get to where you're going. I know the building blocks of a life are hard to find, and hard to keep, and hard to nurture, especially for those of us who grew up with dysfunction as the norm. I have help now. Getting myself to a place where help was possible, where I could accept a gift without some kind of codependence being part of the contract - that took a lot of work. It was worth it.
You are worth it.

An Overview Of Buying Heavy Winter Quilts
The quilt is an important part of any bedding design. It adds warmth and beauty to the bedroom. The right quilt will improve your sleep environment's comfort, aesthetics and overall appeal. Sanganeri print quilts online can also add warmth and flair to our bedroom. However, choosing the right one is difficult due to the wide variety of options available.
It can be challenging to find the right bedsheet, regardless of whether you are looking for one to add style to your bedroom or to help keep warm in the winter. There are so many choices on the market that it is important to take into consideration several factors before purchasing. This post will provide you with some blanket advice to help you choose the right quilt.
youtube
Determine what you require.
Before you begin your hunt for the best quilts, it is important to determine your personal needs. Consider the intended purpose of your quilt: Do you want it to be a piece that provides warmth or is it purely decorative? You can choose the quilt type that will best suit your needs by determining what you require.
Consider the size of your quilt.
Blanket online comes in different sizes. It is important to choose the right one for your bed. If the quilt is too small, it may not be enough to cover your entire body. A large one might take over too much space on your bed. For a perfect fit, you should measure your mattress and use the manufacturer's size chart.
Select the appropriate material.
Material plays a major role in determining the comfort and durability of online blankets. Quilting is commonly made from cotton, wool, silk and other synthetic fibres. Cotton comforters are comfortable and breathable.
The silk winter double blanket is luxurious and suitable for warm climates. Wool quilts can be a great option for the cooler months. Consider your own preferences and the weather when choosing the fabric of your quilt.
Check the quilt for sewing.
Stitching has a direct impact on the overall quality and durability of a quilt. Attention should be paid to stitching techniques.
Quilts that are machine or hand-stitched have a traditional design and last a long time. You can tell if the work is of high quality by looking for neatly spaced lines and crisp stitching.
Check the fill type and weight.
double winter blanket is usually filled with down, synthetic fibers or feathers. Down quilts, while lightweight and offering excellent insulation are usually more expensive. Feather Quilts are cozy, but they can be bulkier.
Quilts for winter made from synthetic fibers can be affordable and hypoallergenic. Consider your preferences and allergies when choosing the type of fill and weight for your quilt.
Care for the quilt.
Consider how easy it is to clean and maintain the quilts for winter before making your purchase. Some quilts are machine washable, while others must be dried cleaned. Care instructions are provided by the manufacturer. Make sure you follow them to make sure the Jaipuri Razai is suitable for your lifestyle.
Tumblr media
Study client testimonials
Before making a decision, read reviews from consumers and compare ratings. These testimonials will give you a better idea of a quilt's comfort and durability. Consider the positives and negatives in these reviews to make an educated decision.
A blanket is more than simply choosing a color or design that matches your room's décor. Consider factors like the size, fabric, stitching and fill type when searching for the perfect quilt to suit your needs and preferences.
If you follow this advice, you'll make the right choice and add a stylish and pleasant addition to your bed.

Expert Tips for Staying Warm and Comfortable While Camping in Cold Weather
Camping in cold weather can be a magical experience, but it also comes with the challenge of staying warm and comfortable in low temperatures. With the right preparation and techniques, you can enjoy your outdoor adventure without shivering through the night. In this blog, we will share expert tips to help you stay warm, cozy, and comfortable while camping in cold weather.
Choose the Right Sleeping Gear: Investing in high-quality sleeping gear is essential for a warm and comfortable night's sleep:
a. Sleeping Bag: Opt for a cold-weather sleeping bag with a temperature rating lower than the expected nighttime temperatures. Look for insulation material such as down or synthetic fibers, and ensure the bag is the right size for your body to minimize empty space that can lead to heat loss.
b. Sleeping Pad: Use an insulated sleeping pad to provide an extra layer of insulation between you and the cold ground. Foam or air-filled pads with higher R-values offer better insulation.
c. Liner and Blankets: Consider using a sleeping bag liner or adding extra blankets or quilts for additional warmth. These can be easily layered or adjusted based on temperature fluctuations.
Layer Your Clothing: Proper layering is crucial to regulate body temperature and trap warmth:
a. Base Layer: Start with a moisture-wicking base layer made of synthetic or wool material. This layer will help keep your body dry by wicking away sweat.
b. Insulating Layer: Add a middle layer of insulating material, such as fleece or down, to trap body heat. This layer should be thicker and provide insulation even when wet.
c. Outer Shell: Wear a waterproof and wind-resistant outer shell to protect against the elements. Look for jackets and pants with breathable fabrics that allow moisture to escape.
d. Head, Hands, and Feet: Don't forget to wear a warm hat, gloves, and thick socks to prevent heat loss from extremities. Consider using hand and foot warmers for extra warmth.
Create a Cozy Campsite: Transform your campsite into a warm and comfortable haven:
a. Tent Selection: Choose a four-season tent designed to withstand cold temperatures and strong winds. Ensure it has a rainfly for added protection against moisture.
b. Insulate the Tent: Place a thick groundsheet or tarp underneath your tent to provide insulation from the cold ground. Use a tent footprint to protect the tent floor.
c. Seal Tent Openings: Before sleeping, close all tent openings tightly to prevent drafts. Use a door sweep or draft stopper to seal the bottom of the tent door.
d. Heat Source: Safely use a tent heater, hot water bottle, or heated blanket to add warmth inside the tent. Ensure proper ventilation and follow manufacturer instructions.
Fuel Your Body: Stay warm from the inside out by consuming warm and high-calorie foods:
a. Hot Drinks: Enjoy warm beverages such as tea, coffee, or hot cocoa to keep your body warm and hydrated. Use an insulated thermos to keep drinks hot for longer periods.
b. High-Calorie Foods: Consume calorie-dense meals and snacks that provide sustained energy and warmth. Consider foods like oatmeal, soups, stews, nuts, and energy bars.
c. Hydration: Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water, as dehydration can affect your body's ability to regulate temperature. Use an insulated water bottle to prevent freezing.
Stay Active and Move: Engage in physical activities to generate body heat and improve circulation:
a. Exercise: Perform light exercises or stretching inside the tent to generate body heat before getting into your sleeping bag.
b. Warm-up Period: Take a short walk or perform simple exercises outside the tent before entering
to warm up your body and get your blood flowing.
c. Layer Adjustments: As you become active or engage in physical activities, adjust your clothing layers to prevent overheating and excessive sweating.
Proper Ventilation: Maintaining proper ventilation inside your tent is crucial to prevent condensation and moisture buildup:
a. Crack the Tent Door: Leave a small opening or crack in the tent door or window to allow for airflow. This helps reduce condensation and keeps the air fresh.
b. Use Tent Vents: Utilize any built-in vents or openings in your tent to promote airflow and minimize condensation.
c. Dry Wet Gear: Hang damp clothes or gear outside the tent or in a designated vestibule area to prevent moisture buildup inside.
Stay Dry: Keeping dry is essential for staying warm in cold weather conditions:
a. Waterproof Gear: Ensure all your outerwear, including jackets, pants, and boots, are waterproof or water-resistant. Apply a waterproof treatment to prolong their effectiveness.
b. Pack Rain Gear: Carry a lightweight rain jacket and rain pants to protect yourself from unexpected rain or snow showers.
c. Change of Clothes: Pack extra sets of dry clothes in case your clothing gets wet. Changing into dry clothes before sleeping is essential for warmth and comfort.

The Role of Recycled Wool in Reducing Textile Waste and Landfill Impact
Introduction
The fashion industry has a dirty secret that often goes unnoticed—textile waste. The immense volume of clothing that ends up in landfills is a growing concern for environmentalists, but there is a sustainable solution on the horizon: recycled wool. In this blog post, we will delve into the significance of recycled wool in reducing textile waste and its impact on landfills.
Textile Waste: A Global Issue
The textile industry is one of the largest contributors to global waste. In recent years, the fast fashion trend has led to an increase in the production of cheap clothing, which is often discarded after just a few uses. As a result, landfills are overflowing with textiles that do not decompose easily, contributing to environmental degradation.
Every year, millions of tons of textiles are discarded globally, and this waste poses a significant challenge. Conventional methods of disposing of textile waste not only harm the environment but also represent a colossal waste of resources.
The Recycling Process of Wool
Recycling wool offers an eco-friendly alternative to the wasteful practices of the fashion industry. The process of recycling wool involves several crucial steps, starting with the collection of old wool garments. This collection phase not only helps reduce waste but also ensures that valuable resources are not wasted.
After collection, the wool garments are carefully sorted and cleaned, removing any impurities. The next step is breaking down and re-spinning the wool fibres to create new yarn. This process significantly reduces energy and water consumption compared to producing new wool from scratch. Moreover, it conserves the non-renewable resources required for virgin wool production.
Advantages of Using Recycled Wool
One of the primary advantages of using recycled wool is the reduced demand for new wool, which, in turn, impacts sheep farming positively. By reducing the need for new wool production, the strain on natural resources is alleviated. This also leads to fewer greenhouse gas emissions associated with sheep farming.
The recycling process consumes less energy and water, making it a more sustainable choice. Moreover, it addresses the issue of textile waste by giving old wool garments a new lease on life.
Environmental Benefits of Recycled Wool
Recycled wool offers several environmental benefits. Most notably, it reduces landfill impact by diverting wool garments from waste disposal sites. Since wool is not biodegradable, it can take decades or even centuries to break down in landfills. By recycling wool, we can significantly reduce this long-lasting impact.
Additionally, recycled wool reduces greenhouse gas emissions. Traditional wool production involves activities that release greenhouse gases into the atmosphere, contributing to global warming. In contrast, the recycling process emits fewer greenhouse gases, aligning with our efforts to combat climate change.
Challenges and the Future of Recycled Wool
While recycled wool offers numerous advantages, it's essential to acknowledge some of the challenges it faces. The recycling process can be complex and may require advanced technology and infrastructure. Moreover, consumer awareness and demand for recycled wool need to grow to make it a viable and widespread alternative.
As the fashion industry continues to evolve, recycled wool is likely to play an increasingly important role in sustainable fashion. It aligns with the growing trend of conscious consumerism, where people are increasingly seeking eco-friendly products and sustainable practices.
Consumer Education and Awareness
To maximise the impact of recycled wool in reducing textile waste, it is crucial to educate consumers about its benefits. Raising awareness about the environmental advantages and encouraging responsible consumption is key. By supporting brands that use recycled wool, consumers can actively participate in reducing textile waste.
Conclusion
In a world grappling with the challenges of textile waste and its impact on landfills, recycled wool stands out as a promising solution. It reduces the demand for new wool, conserves resources, and significantly decreases landfill waste. The environmental benefits of recycled wool extend beyond waste reduction, encompassing reduced greenhouse gas emissions and conservation of water resources.
As the fashion industry continues to adapt to more sustainable practices, recycled wool will play a pivotal role. Its success depends on increased consumer awareness and support for brands that embrace this eco-friendly material. By making informed and responsible fashion choices, we can all contribute to a more sustainable and eco-conscious future.

How to Choose the Right Blanket Manufacturer for Your Needs
Selecting the ideal blanket manufacturer is a critical decision that can significantly impact the quality and appeal of your final product. When evaluating potential manufacturers, consider their experience in the industry, as a seasoned manufacturer is likely to have refined processes and a better understanding of material sourcing, production techniques, and quality control. Assess their range of materials, such as cotton, fleece, or wool, to ensure they align with your desired product specifications and target market preferences. Additionally, inquire about their production capacity and lead times to ensure they can meet your demand without compromising on quality.

First, I have a 100% wool kilted skirt. The garment is made in Scotland by Kinloch Anderson. The wrap skirt style make it look like a blanket is wrapped around the lower half of the body. A blue-green, red, and black plaid patter in showcased. The luster is matte and the fabric feels stiff and somewhat coarse. The fabric is heavy and not comfortable in the summer time. However it is very warm and cozy in the colder months. I usually steam out any folds and creases on a low setting; after a few wears and it starts to look dirty I add it to the "TAKE TO DRY-CLEANERS" hamper. The skirt has been in my possession for 6 years I haven't noticed any changes in quality. bought this second-hand for $40; after reviewing the brand's website I've found similar skirts averaging $350. I love this skirt, but the original retail price is surely out of my budget.
Secondly, I have a pair of faux leather jeans. The outer part is completely made of polyurethane; the inner made from 100% polyester. The jeans were purchased at Gap and manufactured in China. They have good elasticity and elongation - fitting snugly to the body. The outer part has the appearance of leather. Upon touching the surface, it feels smooth and soft yet rubbery. The inner polyester lining is suede-like. It's very similar to swatch #48 moleskin. It is very soft, plush and luxurious. The lining makes this garment very comfortable to wear. Overall, it retains heat very well - I avoid this pair of jeans in the warmer months. I bought these during a sale for $40 and I would do it again. So far, I've owned these for 2 years with no noticeable changes in quality. I was worried about cracking and peeling as I've experienced with many faux leather products from other brands.
