Okay, it's not a good *wallet* habit, but i highly recommend cultivating a stress response of acquiring a new niche hobby. Work is hard? New hobby! Never enough hours in the day to do important things? NEW HOBBY. It's a flawless solution, don't even worry. I have no idea how long I'm going to be preoccupied with this, because I'm accelerating but have no gauge for max speed, but straw marquetry time

#i also got good news at work when i was expecting bad news so #emotional turmoil? NEW! HOBBY!!!!!!!#jk i bought the supplies after giving a high stakes presentation two weeks ago #and then jumped into motion after almost being dumped into an even higher stakes presentation with no prep time last week #also as a partial salve for not being able to afford a woodworking space of my own #if you can't buy your own wood veneers homemade is fine #the straw is really interesting #it's finicky because it's small and stiff #but in some ways it's more forgiving than paper OR wood #reasonable decisions: what if my first ever project was 1.5x2 feet #some girls will ask has anyone ever made their own straw marquetry mat for a frame and not wait for an answer

Me, faced with a shiny new story idea: Save it for the Inklings Challenge, save it for the Inklings Challenge, please save it for the Inklings Challenge, I'm begging you please save it for the Inklings Challenge

#adventures in writing #the idea engine is warming up #by now i've got a certain sense of what kind of stories i generate for the inklings challenge #mash up one of the genres with another work or genre and create some half-baked world #the most recent is: the boxcar children as a portal fantasy #older sister and middle brother and younger sister the oldest no more than eleven or twelve #fantasy world royalty who flee from danger (probably an evil usurping uncle who wants to kill them like it's the aristocats)#and stumble into our world #and have to have all sorts of orphan adventures as they figure out how to survive #scrounging for supplies #setting up housekeeping in the woods or in some kind of abandoned building #figuring out our world and making friends #which they're going to need once the evil uncle's forces come after them #it would be so so middle grade and so derivative and such cheesy earnest fun #telling you about it now because it's the type of story idea that loses its luster in 24 hours #and i'll probably never write it #but also it can go on an inklings list and who knows #maybe three days before the deadline this one will pop up as a viable option for this year

Sqq gets kidnapped by demons and he's allowed to write one (1) letter to cq, but he's not allowed to even HINT at being stuck or kidnapped. Knowing this, he sprinkles in just enough demonic lingo to render the letter vaguely indecipherable to yqy (and pass muster with the demons as 'not code'), meaning he has to summon sqh to try and figure out what his xiao jiu is saying. Sqh takes one looks at this harmless letter and sees, as a line break, the more code sos.

#I just like the idea of famous trivia and modern culture being integral to their way of handling themselves outside of memes #Passing on information in ways people wouldn't even think to consider important #Because the context is so far removed as to not even trigger suspicion #Numbers that look like spending receipts but are actually in military time #Sqh sends a message with a doodle of a potential cup design for a project but sqq sees the pokeball and knows the potential spy they were #Chasing has been caught and turned to their side #Sqq sends a letter from deep in enemy territory about a Third Dawn Bear he's spotted and named Grylls and sqh understands that to mean they #Lost all their supplies and are roughing it in the woods and in need of extraction from mbj #That kind of thing #The culture they came from having a use outside of relatable memes for the audience #svsss #svsss meme #shen qingqiu #shang qinghua #cumplane #scum villain's self saving system #luo binghe #bingqiu
