You know what really just means so much to me is that we haven't been presented in Lone Star with the 'love heals mental illness' type narrative that I always hate so much. TK and Carlos have both grown and healed and improved so much but they've healed themselves. Carlos found the courage to accept himself and his sexuality because TK gave him butterflies and for the first time that didn't feel wrong, but TK didn't even know that until years later. It wasn't TK telling him that it's okay to be gay, it was Carlos healing that wound for himself. TK's made so much progress with his addiction and his self-destructive tendencies but vitally it was never a situation where he didn't deserve love until after he was better, and it also wasn't a situation where all his problems disappeared the moment somebody loved him.

They have healed each other and they've weathered storms together but it feels so important they found the strength to heal themselves because being loved made them stronger, not because being loved was a magic wand that erased all their trauma.

Mini-review:

Full disclosure: I'm not a huge fan of BL dramas. They rarely work for me tbh, for a wide variety of reasons that I won't go into right now. From time to time I fall for people's raves about one of these shows, only to end up disappointed. And, while this one is better than average, it didn't impress me that much anyway. There's clearly a strong emotional core at the center of the story, but the episodes are too short and everything feels rushed. The thing that saves it is Lee Tae Vin's performance and his fantastic chemistry with Cha Joo Wan; it's thanks to them that the last two episodes hit a lot better than what comes before. But yeah, it's clear that BLs in general just aren't my thing.
