''What's your opinion on Christian Horner stating that more girls are getting into F1, because of the good looking drivers?'' The reporter's question echoed through the room, cameras ready to capture her reaction as the words left his mouth.

Being asked about misogynistic comments that people in the sport made had become a regular thing in the press conferences ever since the young woman entered the Formula 1 world.

On one hand, it had become tiresome. Some men just wouldn't stray away from their sexist thoughts, no matter how many successful women would climb their way through the ranks. On the other hand, Y/N felt like she owed it to every single woman and young girl out there to defend them against these conservative men. Many women before her had proven that this wasn't a men's world and for as long as she'll live she will repeat that message.

''Young girls and women have always struggled to be taken seriously in the motorsport world, and for a team principal of a highly-regarded racing team to say that the only reason they watch this sport is for the handsome drivers? I find that quite insulting. There are many reasons why women are interested in the sport. Sure, there are people who got pulled into this world, because they found some of the drivers good looking, but why should they be shamed for that? They're the ones showing up to races and the ones who buy the merch. I know he has apologized for his comments, but I think we all know how much of that he meant.''

The lack of emotion on the woman's face and in her voice was a rare sight for the drivers and reporters. Perhaps it showed how fed up she was and how tired she had become of having to answer these questions. It hadn't been the first time the Red Bull Racing team principal had expressed some serious sexist comments.

Her welcome into Formula 1 had been a polarized one. The drivers had been supportive and many people were delighted that after such a long time there was finally a woman in the beloved sport, one that had talent that matched the ones of her competitors.

But where there is support, there is hatred. In her first ever press conference, Y/N was asked to comment on an interview that Christian Horner had done where he was asked about the woman and her arrival to Formula 1. ''The first time I saw the girl I thought that she was one of grid girls,'' he laughed, ''it's definitely going to be tough for her, entering a man's sport.''

The rookie knew the question was going to be brought up and she answered with the response her team had drilled into her. ''No comment.''

It was sad how after several years things hadn't changed, the comments were still the same and the people who made them still hadn't learned their lesson, simply being patted on the back for their mistakes.

''Do you find the handsome drivers distracting during your race week?'' Another journalist asked her, his pen ready in his hand to note her response.

Y/N looked to her side, finding Mick and Lewis already frowning at the man. ''Oh, yeah! It's super distracting when I look to my side and find a helmet there. It just riles me up, you know?'' The sarcastic comment earned her laughs and chuckles from several people in the room, happy she could show everyone how ridiculous the question actually was.

Not too long after the press conference was over, to all the drivers' amusement. Lewis caught up with the young woman as they walked out of the room. ''You handled that well, I really loved what you said.'' He squeezed her shoulder, a soft smile on his face.

''Thanks, it's just so- ugh, tiring.'' Y/N sighed, rolling her eyes.

''I know, darling. I was there was something I could do, but I'm afraid that the two of us are in the same boat.'' Lewis could relate to the discrimination she experienced because of who she is.

''Like, yeah, you all are handsome individuals, but it's not that I get an orgasm every time I see any of you.'' Her comment made Lewis giggle, her bluntness never failed to make him laugh.

''And out of all people, Horner should be the last one worried about his good looks bringing interest in the sport.''

"good afternoon. first of all, thank you all so much for being here. before starting the press conference i would like to make a short summary of what it has been for me. being part of the club of my life. those of you who know me know that my first football memories are all related to barça. the first blaugrana shirt, ronaldinho's first boots, the first trips with the family to visit camp nou, the first matches on TV, those of barça. looking back, i realize how lucky i was that my father instilled this in me from a very young age, which means loving a club and admiring the colours. and how lucky to be able to say out loud that i have always been, am and will always be a culer.

"when i was 18 years old and had the option to come here, the decision was made on my own. i still remember that day and what o heard that girl who had grown up being a barça fan, the one who screamed and jumped when they scored goals and the one who cried and got angry when they lost, she had before her the opportunity of her life to wear the blaugrana shirt, but this time an official one with her name on it. and this dream, when it came true the first moment i set foot in the ciutat esportiva, was wonderful. after ten years i leave feeling even culer than i was before, if that is possible and we feel privileged to have been part of the best team in the world.

Summary: Blind items is back with a new victim, Alex Albon and his American Mclaren race engineer of a girlfriend. With the news comes a very interesting Team Torque episode.

Logan laughed when he saw the tweet. He had been making fun of Alex for his newfound patriotism. Since Alex had started having feelings for this girl, he had been asking Logan for help trying to ‘woo’ her, as if Logan hasn’t actually lived in the US since he was twelve. But his teammate helped him, happy that Alex was not teasing him about America anymore. 

Team Torque:

“Hello everyone, this is Team Torque with Alex and Logan. We are here with our very own special guest! She is a race engineer for McLaren”

“And you girlfriend.” Logan quickly adds.

“And my girlfriend. Thanks for the help Logan.” Alex says, sarcastically. “As usual, this podcast is a mess and will probably not be getting better so apologies for that.”

“We aren’t the best hosts.” Logan adds.

“No we are not. Moving on, would you like to introduce yourself?” Alex asks.

“Yes! Thank you boys. As they said, I am a race engineer for Mclaren.”

“And my girlfriend.” Alex interrupts, copying Logan's previous remark.

“And Alex’s girlfriend.”

“And a fellow American.” Logan adds. 

“Would you boys like to introduce me instead? You seem to be so enthusiastic about it.” She jokes.

Alex had been begging for a while to have her on Team Torque. The team had said if they wanted a race engineer they should have one of their own but both him and Logan were insistent that she join them. After the rumors came out, Williams decided it was best if they brought her to gain control of the narrative again. It helped that she was already well loved by the Williams crew. While she would never help them, as that would be traitorous to her beloved team, she had made friends with a few of the other engineers and had jokingly been offered a job by James Vowles a few times. 

“Sorry honey, we are just excited.” Alex said.

“Yeah! Team America back together.” Logan enthusiastically added. The two had become close since they met, giving Alex a taste of his own medicine by making fun of his ‘Britishness’. He wasn’t too happy at their joint effort to make fun of him but he supposed that it was a good thing they got along so well. 

“Anyway, go on, say a bit about yourself.”

“Okay, as mentioned I am from the US. I was born and raised in New York.”

“Yuck” Logan teased.

“Don’t even start Florida man. I worked for Arrow McLaren’s IndyCar team in the same position, shoutout to my IndyCar family, I love you all lots. Then eventually Zak Brown asked me to come to F1 and I happily joined. Through working for them I met Lando who introduced me to Alex and a few years later we now both live in Monaco together.”

“How was the switch to F1 from IndyCar?” Logan asked.

“Rough at first. IndyCar has a much different sort of atmosphere than Formula 1 as well as fanbase. Plus moving out of the US for the first time was difficult. But it has also been such an amazing opportunity that I can’t complain too much. I am so happy where I am now.” Alex hadn’t known her when she had first gotten to Formula 1 but he had heard stories about how difficult it was. She had shared a lot with him but he also knew it was hard as he hadn't had to do the same. His experiences being a Thai and British driver had helped him understand some, but women were still such a rarity in F1, even if they preached gender equality in the sport, they didn't actually do as much as they could to make it a safe space for women to work. He also realized why she and Logan got along so well. Even if they hadn’t grown up close to each other, their shared identity of being an American in a primarily European sport had brought them together. 

The interviewing portion stopped after there, as Alex and Logan were terrible interviewers, but the conversations were still entertaining and it had become viral once it was uploaded. Viewers were excited to see Alex and his girlfriend, as well as Team USA.

I know I post intermittently abt the basketball AU of ASOIAF that lives in my head rent free but anyways the women’s college basketball season in the US just ended and I really do have some thoughts:

Sansa Stark 6’3” and kind of stacked she SHOULD be a post player but has never once driven to the basket in her LIFE. Somehow manages to make up for this in sheer volume of 3 pointers. Keeps getting compared to her mom who was the most terrifying power forward you ever saw in the Riverlands 20-something years ago despite the fact that there is almost nothing in common with their game styles.

Arya Stark, guard, has a really sweet mid-range game that everyone always forgets about but she’s got like 18 points in 28 min, makes about 5 steals a game. Unfortunately, gets in foul trouble. Keeps getting compared to Jon which drives her nuts.

Robb, went to the Westerosi National Basketball League at like 18, but before the championship game, the coach of an opposing team got a second coach to get players to deliberately injure him during a game. Somehow he got called for a technical foul on this. Ended his career in professional sports.

Dany, 5’6”, floor general and sharpshooter. Regularly beats defenders with more than half a foot on her to rebounds. Plays internationally full-time but her highlight reels still end up on Westerosi ESPN bc her family was at one point a dynasty in the basketball world. 90% of her instagram page is her with her three lizards.

Brienne is the Post Player’s Post Player— always boxes out, gets the rebound, blocks shots, drives etc, impeccable footwork. And then she also hits from distance and can guard. Cersei, the aging vet on the Lannisport Lions, wants her dead for once committing SEVEN blocks on her in a game when she was a rookie. Currently coached by Cat for the Riverlands Fighting Trout. There is a not insignificant fanbase of lesbians who want her to crush their heads with her thighs online but she is tragically into disgraced ex-Lions player Jaime Lannister who keeps bumming around the Riverlands for unclear reasons.

Jon Snow has been fouled out of games with technicals. He has never made a basket apart from a fast break layup or a free throw— except for like, two separate years??? where he got his team to the semifinals through a buzzer beater logo 3????? Somehow the undisputed defensive player of the year, the most universally loathed player in his conference, beloved by his own team, and a guy who once went viral for a video of him crying on his girlfriend after HER team lost while she just sort of patted his head.

Fake dating : Mad Max and F1s princess 🌹

You laughed as you watched Max yet again threaten the interviews at the panel if they ask him another stupid question. You would be lying if you said it didn’t bring you a bit of satisfaction knowing that even though Max was beating you in racing, he wasn’t exactly beloved by the public.

Not like you. 

You were new to the F1 racing scene and as the first woman to race with Ferrari ( and in F1 itself ) you became the picture image for women beating men at their own sport - and you couldn’t wait to rub it in Maxs face. There was only one problem - no matter how hard you tried you couldn’t beat him. 

After seeing Max storm off the panel and muttering a few curses at the crowd you went to greet him by the stairs.

“ F1s sweetheart everybody.”

A smile tugged at his lips, “ everybody knows you’re F1s sweetheart, sweetheart”

You rolled your eyes as teasing him seemed pointless. 

“ You know you should probably stop calling everyone pussies if you don’t want to be booed off the panel next time.”

“If you care so much why don’t you help me out,”  he said with as his blue eyes held a predatory glint in them.

“Max the last thing I would want to do is help you”-before you could finish your retort his large hand wrapped around your arm as he led you behind one of the trailers.

“Look, I  don’t give a fuck what those pussy interviewers think of me, but Chris has been on me for the past month saying I need to fix my public image or else we lose our sponsorships.” He huffed frustrated.

You looked up at him in a way that said “you deserve it.”

A few beats of silence passed before he crossed his arms across his chest and leaned back against the trailer, smirking down at you. 

“Don’t you want to beat me.”

“What?” This arrogant PRICK. 

“It’s a bit embarrassing how easily I pass u on track. Don’t you want to have a fighting chance.  I can help you. But you have to help me.”

“And how exactly can I help you” you questioned, failing to keep the anger out of your voice.

Max’s eyes darkened before he casually said “be my girlfriend.”

You stood still not knowing whether to laugh or tell him to go fuck himself.  

“Please don’t act like the idea doesn’t turn you on. I’ve seen you oogling me.”

“Get over yourself I wasn’t checking you out I was chanting death wishes,” you scoffed.

He raised an eyebrow like he diddnt believe you at all.

“If I had F1s princess on my arm” he continued “people won’t think of me as much as a dickhead - and in return I’ll train you. ” He finished smugly like he was quite happy with himself and his plan.

“Aren’t you scared I’ll take your world title from you?” 

He ran his hands through his hair and let out a chuckle as if the notion itself was unbelievable. 

“No sweetheart I’m not.”

Max calmly watched me as I thought about it. His added retorts and arrogance were not helping him but being in a fake relationship with Max Verstappen seemed like a small price to pay if it meant I had a chance at winning.

“Okay I accept.”

He suddenly reached around and wrapped his strong arms around my waist, pulling me flush against him. 

The woody scent of his cologne clouded my surroundings before I realised what was going on, “what are you doing!” I could feel Max smile into my hair as gasps and flashes erupted around us and reporters ambushed us - excited to get a juicy headline of the infamous Mad Max with F1s princess.

Surfer Ino with the perfect body. those defined, washboard abs. toned quads that work alongside his core to stabilize him as he shreds the waves like it's nothing. biceps that aren't overwhelming, but actually just right in size. every muscle in his body is hugged by skin that is tanned to delicious perfection. he's the epitome of fitness, now sprinkle a head of untamed chocolate locks with that dorky, genuine personality. it's no wonder swimwear and underwear companies alike want him showing off their brands while women discard their underwear for him.

Surfer Ino who can't get over how irresistible you look every time you set those pretty toes in the cream-colored sand. the sun hits your skin immaculately every time, he's hypnotized by the way your eyes seem to compete with the sun in splendor and beauty. your hair is somehow always complying with you, edges laid and behaving despite the brutal heat. sometimes, he swears you're a goddess posing as a human. no way someone is so perfect so effortlessly.

Surfer Ino who is so enthralled by your beauty, he loses focus, which throws off his balance and leads him to wiping out. normally, he's bummed out by such mistakes, but he's happy the waves have swallowed. perhaps you wouldn't recognize him from the distance he was at and surely you couldn't see the crimson spreading over his face and neck like a nasty sunburn.

Surfer Ino who makes it kind of obvious he has a thing for you. occasionally approaching you whenever you pop up to make casual conversation. flashing that flawless, megawatt smile your way when he's waxing his board. you don't ignore the flurry of nerves that erupts in your stomach when he does, not like you could anyway.

Surfer Ino who stays at the beach however long you stay because even sharing the same shoreline as you is a privilege he'll never take for granted.

Surfer Ino who finally has the opportunity to get closer to you when he overhears you talking about wanting to learn how to surf. he doesn't know that your watching him is what sparked your curiosity and desire to surf.

Surfer Ino who calmly and cooly offers to teach you when your leaving the beach one day. he explains he overheard your conversation and would be honored to teach you the basics. he'd even lend you one of his boards for practice.

Surfer Ino who will never forget the way your eyes lit up when you eagerly took him up on his offer. the way your glossy lips curled up in that show-stopping smile of yours...it took every ounce of self control he didn't know he had to not kiss you in that moment

Surfer Ino who sat on the moonlight beach that night, daydreaming about what it'll be like to feel your skin under his rough palms. he found himself giddy at the thought of alone time with you. he laughed aloud; he was acting like a lovestruck teen

but who could blame him? it's been some time since he'd felt so happy. sure, surfing made him feel alive, feel the surge of adrenaline. but you? with each second he spent with you, it felt like he was committing every thing he knew about you to memory. you were a whole new experience. one he wanted to cherish for as long as possible.

So...who wants to knit some gloves? :-D

I started working on writing up a more user-friendly pattern for the Gloves of the Reunited Kingdom (and look how pretty it is!...desktop publishing my beloved; it's possible the real reason I wanted to publish the pattern was just to play around with designing the pages now that I'm done designing the gloves XD)

Then I thought I'd better try to figure out the math for sizing it up, so I went looking through other glove patterns in my library, only to find...most of them just have one size anyway? And most of them are women's S/M, 7-7.5" hand circumference, right about the same size as these gloves. So. Well. I guess I might not need to do that math after all? You could, I suppose, still knit them in a larger size by using a heavier yarn (sport-weight or DK instead of fingering) and larger needles; and I, with my rather short fingers, did add instructions to the pattern for how to use your own hand measurements to knit the fingers to fit you, however long your fingers may be, so that would work with the scaling-up-yarn-and-needles process too. :-D

Pattern details behind the cut:

The pattern includes written instructions for the cuff, fingers, and general procedure for the hand, but the double knitting colorwork on the hand is included only as a chart.

Size Women’s S/M: 7-7.5" around the hand, height 9.25" from cuff to tallest fingertip

The pattern is written for a 7-7.5" hand circumference, to fit a women's size small/medium. Larger gloves may be knit by working in a heavier yarn, e.g. sport or DK weight, on larger needles. While the hand size is determined by the double knitting chart, written instructions for the fingers include how to adjust the length for a custom fit.

Gauge The gauge is measured over the double knitted fabric on the palm/hand.

Materials Yarn: Knit Picks Gloss Fingering (70% Merino Wool, 30% Silk): 1 skein (220 yd/50 g for dyed yarns, 440 yd/100 g for Bare) each of Harvest (MC), Bare (CC1), and Cranberry (CC2); or other fingering weight yarn: about 35g/155yd of MC; 35g/155yd of CC1; and 15g/66yd of CC2. Any sturdy fingering-weight sock yarn should produce durable gloves; those with some nylon fiber will add to the durability. Consider also the comfort of the fiber content next to your skin; e.g. use a non-wool yarn if you are allergic or find it itchy.

Notions: Tapestry needle, stitch markers, measuring tape, cable needle or spare DPN for rearranging stitches, waste yarn for a stitch holder

Difficulty level

Advanced. Skills required: Knitting in the round (DPNs, magic loop, etc.) for small circumferences; corrugated ribbing; Latvian braid; double knitting including increases and decreases
