Sometimes I remember how perfect the ending of Crooked Kingdom was for Kanej
Kaz clearly planned for this moment, even with all the moving variables that could have gone wrong, wanting to give Inej what he could because he wanted it for her. No doubt the time spent after the Ice Court had only solidified that he needed to take the risk to reach out, it even gave him time to figure it all out before he put it all on the line.
It was a perfectly Kaz way of displaying his affection. She had always been a support for him, it was time to do the same for her. It didn't matter that it would only facilitate her departure, because that was already inevitable, so he might as well be part of her start of it.
So, he crafted a meticulous scenario to give him the chance to breach the subject of the future between them which had been looming in the air ever since they had returned to Ketterdam: A ship and a crew to support her new path. Her parents to finally reunite her with what had long been lost. A berth that awaited her whether she decided to use it or not. And his gloveless hands to signify that he wouldn't erase all that had happened between them. He knew he had to lay it all on the line. No barriers, gloves off. She told him as much. He wanted to do as much too.
The fact that at the very same time he is planning all this, Inej was readying herself to let it end as a memory because she wasn't willing to accept all the barriers again after they had broken so many down. LIke she had said before, she wouldn't accept a love at arm's length from him. They were both preparing a good bye, but of different kinds. She was expecting a farewell and a severed tie, he was hoping for good bye with a promise to return if she was willing.
And it all cumulates to such a beautiful moment at the end. Inej approaching with a mindset that Kaz would try to make it business as usual, only to be caught off-guard with his unwillingness to and his gloveless hands that further solidified just that. He opens up instead, let's her know what he wants--- her return, someday. She let's him know what she wants, his help in her fight.
It's such an honest conversation too. Kaz telling her that he isn't good, and Inej telling him that she wasn't asking him to be anything other than what he is. She knew better than to try and change him, she didn't want to change him either, she just wanted to be let in and to let him in in return. She wanted them to be able to help each other and to break barriers caused by trauma along the way.
And then the hands--- the hands.
"Go on," she said quietly, as if she was asking him to continue a story. He wasn't sure he could. But if she could speak those words into the echo of this room, he could damn well try. (ch.26)
Very reminiscent of the bathroom scene, Inej takes the first step --- barely, barely brushing her own against his but nothing more. She was afraid he wouldn't bridge the gap--that he wouldn't take the next step, but she also knew he needed to be the one to do it if it was going to happen. So she waited, and despite every fear, he slowly did take the next step.
He brushed his own knuckles against hers before eventually intertwining their fingers. They even held hands for a long time before even speaking again, contented by this new step into the future ahead of them and just--- what a beautiful moment between them to be able to take steps towards a future together by taking a step towards reclaiming one of the things that had been taken from them--- touch. So much of their respective stories had been about reclaiming what was taken from them in some form or another, after all.
It all closing off with their worlds beginning anew with so much promise ahead--- both individually and together--- was a perfect way to tie it all up for them.
JUST--- what a good ending for us and a beautiful beginning for them <3
#crooked kingdom#six of crows#kanej#inej ghafa#kaz brekker#the hand holding is so important to me#it also just connects to the bathroom scene so well#with inej initiating but making it clear that kaz needed to be the one to close the gap himself is everything to me#i turned this into a much longer tangent than intended but anywaYS-- them <33

Writing an AU Gummigoo and plotting him out is so fun because my first thought was I shit you not letting him go interdimensional travel and he wants to learn to be real (and turns into a real croc at one point)
but to hide the fact that he is a gummi candy croc..
he dressed similarly to FL4K.
THIS FL4K.
Like I imagine he goes full on Gunslinger/Bounty Hunter with somewhat similar clothing just to hide his identity
and he becomes this nigh invincible / intimidating motherfucker because he has never reacted to getting injured because you know
he's not real, he can't bleed, he can't scar, he can't go through PHYSICAL pain, he's got no receptors to nerve damage or pain, he's still a piece of gummy candy.
So the main whole he's stayin in, he's FEARED like big time, no one fucks with him, because he's just never seemed like he was in pain or anything.
I imagine he becomes real and starts dressing lightly again (Keeps the pants, wears this black poncho, got the red scarf on him over top, got the holster, and the Belt + straps and these sick ass fingerless gloves and steampunk-esque cowboy boots on top of his signature cowboy hat and he just)
finds his way back to The Digital Circus just to verbally assault the shit out of Caine for doing that to him and
Caine can't get rid of him. He's real. He's 100% bonafide real. He can't even bear to stay here so he just reunites with Pomni before forcing Caine to open a portal back into the Candy Kingdom
because he's going back for his two mates and he's taking them with him this time.
god I love the AU.

wc: 3.2k
a/n: HI HELLO 👋🏼 i feel that I'm missing stuff in here, but at the same time i think it's good how it is??? HOPE YOU ENJOY :D
“ Don't make me cry, though I still got love for you and haven't got over you yet.
Hands covered with white gloves moved around the map to corroborate your binnacle.
Northwest, near Zigan Village... wait, didn't the military already helped that village...? No, you would've registered it when—
“HEY, MISS GEOGRAPHY!” Bolin screamed walking to you, giving you a tiny heart attack. “Watcha doin'?”
“Fucking spirits, Bolin...” you said out of breath, turning fully his way. “Do you need something?”
"The boss wants us all reunited, we are close to the town." your friend let his arm rest on your shoulders. "Should we go reunite with Mako and Asami while we are there?"
A sound of consideration vibrated in your throat while your face made an expression of thinking. “I don't think they can, Bo, Mako is occupied being a detective and Asami has a whole company to run, remember?”
You felt how your friend got discouraged after that, a small sigh left his lips.
“Maybe you're right..” he said in a small voice.
“But maybe we can reunite with them after the coronation. Who knows? Korra could be back in the city by now too.” you tried to encourage the lavabender back, poking his side. He smiled.
“Oh! I wish! She hasn't answer any of my letters to her, you know? And I wrote to her with dedication.” Bolin ranted making you laugh.
After the avatar left Republic City to heal in the Southern Water Tribe, Bolin had found out Kuvira's plan to save the Earth Kingdom from chaos herself and he decided to walk in the team as he really wanted to have his and his father's nation back to peace. One week later, he came to you talking you into joining too, assuring it would be to have the nation united until the new king took possession of his place.
You did take a couple days to consider his proposal and ended up showing to the train with your stuff, being met with a big hug from your friend and a welcome speech from the leader.
The team was small when you joined, so you had the honor to see Kuvira recruit more people for the good cause... At least that was what she made everyone believe, even you.
You were able to take a good position in Kuvira's circle, you managed the villages reports for her and that made you be close to her. She remembered you from the team's visit to Zaofu where you would be kind to everyone, she taught you some new metalbending moves you didn't know and that was also part of the reason you joined: Kuvira herself.
Having to be almost every single hour of the day by her side gave you the opportunity to meet her in more depth than how it happened back in the metal clan's city and in a blink of an eye, there wasn't a way anyone could see one without the other. Everyone started to notice how important you began to be for the young leader. Unofficially, you were her right hand, but even with such a high rank there were stuff Kuvira kept from you.
“Everyone has a room assigned, we'll take the presidential suite.” Kuvira informed, pointing at you and then back at her. “We'll meet outside before the event.”
Baatar looked at you with narrow eyes before walking behind his new roommate Bolin. The metalbender and you made your way to the suite and began to settle; since the presidential suite had two connecting rooms she took the principal one and you the small one.
After leaving your stuff, you walked to her room and sat on the bed while she was getting ready for the coronation.
“Are you sure to go on with your plan?” you asked after a small talk took place about the room being pretty, her sharp eyes looked at you from the mirror.
“Of course, this new little king they want on the throne is nothing but a buffoon.” she answered, her eyes went back to her reflection. “And the Kingdom needs someone strong and respected to keep it together.”
You sighed and nodded with a little 'I guess' coming out of your mouth. The black haired walked to you, sitting by your side she took one of your hands.
“Trust me, this is for the best. The new Empire will be stronger and far better than the previous Earth Kingdom.” her eyes searched for yours and when they met, her gaze softened. “You trust me, don't you?”
A sweet smile began to creep in your face, your head nodded once more. “I do, I trust you blindly.” your free hand reached for her cheek to leave caresses on it.
The door opened without any warning and the engineer walked, freezing after seeing you two close. He cleared his throat making the two sets of eyes turn his way. “All set, we need to go.” and he left.
You looked back at Kuvira with a funny smile, she shook her head. “Let's go, new leader.” A quick kiss on her cheek was left before distancing from the girl and walking to the exit.
At the coronation, everything went like you thought it would: People opposing, people showing support and Wu looking defeated at the border of a tantrum.
Bolin looked at you confused and you shrugged a little bit, like saying he needed to talk to her directly about it and that's what he planned to do after the ceremony.
When you came back to the room after having lunch with some of the soldiers to make time, you saw Suyin leaving the same, she looked at you and shook her head almost with disappointment before continuing her way.
“Hey, what happened? I saw Suyin leave.” you asked directly coming in, Kuvira was standing with her arms crossed.
“We are leaving to Zaofu.” she limited to say, going to her room for her stuff.
You knew what was going to happen, she have been thinking about getting Zaofu into the new Empire for quite some time now, it was almost all she spoke about while talking about not letting the king rule.
Near the city, Bolin was called and told to be of company to both her and Bataar in a negotiation reunion with the matriarch of the city and her family, you were requested to stay on camp to keep working and that's what you did.
While looking through some paperwork that you knew got mixed up with Bataar's in his tent, you found blueprints for weapons you've never seen before, notes on the weapons about them being deadly and how each one could help in different areas. Your brow frowned and then, the dots connected.
Trying to look calmed you took your papers and walked back out like nothing. Bolin was also walking out of Kuvira's tent with a pale face, when he spotted you his feet almost ran your direction and took you by the shoulders.
“Kuvira is not what we think she is!” he screamed in a whisper, your eyebrows raised, he knew too.
“What? Why–” he pulled you to your tent so you could talk. “What are you talking about, Bolin?”
“She just threatened me,” your eyes widened. “She wants to take the city by force, that's what we have been doing all this time! Taking cities by force and apparently making them work like slaves too!”
You blinked to all of the information. “Holy fuck, so that's why...” your sentence stopped, now you understood why there were documents with censored information being delivered to you instead of the official ones.
“Yeah, holy fuck that's why!” he backed up, pulling down his face. “We need to do something, there's no way we'll leave it like this.”
“Let me... Let me talk to her, you need to go for Varrick, I know he can help us, he was captured because of the vines I heard.” you said, spaced out on your spot, you looked back at him. “Try to get out of here with him and talk to the team, I know they can help us, Korra will help us.”
The guy nodded before going out like a man on a mission, you stayed to clear your thoughts and try to come with a way to persuade her. After collecting a couple of documents that needed approval, you made your way to her tent, Baatar was there.
“You can leave.” she said to him, the man left with a grimace, you rolled your eyes at him. “Hey, I was about to look for you, want to eat dinner?”
“Oh, sure.” you smiled, standing still with your folder, Kuvira raised an eyebrow.
“Is... something wrong? Something happened with the reports?” she asked meticulously, almost like fearing any discoveries you had made.
"No, sorry, I just... I feel tired." you walked to her and handed the folder. "I need your approvals here so I can send these."
The girl nodded and took the paperwork to start the process, you bit your bottom lip before breathing in deep.
"Listen, I talked to Bolin..." her hand stopped and she froze. "Kuvira, I know you want to have the whole Kingdom united, but taking the city by force is not a good idea."
"Sometimes you need to do whatever it takes to make a greater good." her response left a bad mouth taste, she looked back up at you. "I know this is something you don't want to hear, but we need to make them join to our cause so we can move forward as a nation together. I'm doing this for us."
You stood in silence, that was definitely a different Kuvira talking and it scared you a little bit.
It took you that conversation to come up with a plan, you'd stay with her to try and stop everything from the inside and fortunately you weren't alone. Zhu Li had a similar idea with the canyon they were building and so you relied on her, both had meetings from time to time to discuss progress, but it was until the Beifongs were freed and she left with them for her safety that you were all alone. You trusted she would tell everything to the team.
"Okay, you can look now." your own hands moved from your eyes, confused you looked up to see a giant robot and now both eyes were wide open. "Do you like it? It's to take Republic City back."
Your blood froze in your veins at the view you were having, it was not only the giant robot, it was the fact that you could see a canyon on its right arm. "I thought... I thought we were going to do a big canyon."
"That was the first plan, but Baatar came up with this new model and it would be easier to mobilize around the city." you nodded still hypnotized by the weapon.
"I think this is going to be such a great idea." you said what she wanted to hear, Kuvira smiled satisfied. "What will I do?"
"You will be with me on the main control room." your mind was running miles trying to devise a plan to let the team know.
With the luck against you, you found yourself at the control room without being able to warn anyone about anything. Horrified at the sight of the canyon destroying everything in just seconds, you were grieving silently what had been your home for all those years alive. When the president surrendered the city, you felt your soul fall to your feet, but her instructions to them gave you an idea.
"I'll go!" you almost screamed at her, she turned your way confused. "With Baatar, Korra is my friend, she trusts me, I know she won't try anything with me there. You'll have the city, the army and the avatar." You nervousness made your hands twitch a little bit, you hid them in your back.
"Okay," she said after a few seconds of silence, Kuvira walked up to you and cupped your face in her hands. "Be careful, I'll wait for you so we can rule together." She left a kiss close to the corner of your lips.
A soft smile was your response while your eyes scanned her face one last time, trying to burn the image of her in your brain and after that, you left to meet the engineer.
The first half of the journey was quiet, both of you were walking towards his office, but with healthy distance between the two.
"She likes you, you know?" he spoke out of the blue, catching your attention, you looked up from the floor and back at him for a second.
"What...?"
"Kuvira, she likes you." he continued, you stopped a second in your steps, confused. "We were trying something at the beginning of all of this, but after Bolin got you on the team she had been distant to me and this morning she said we needed to talk after this is over, I know she likes you, I've seen the way she looks at you."
You blinked in awe to what was said, that explained why he always looked at you with some type of resentment, you laughed a little bit to the thought of him hating you for ruinning his 'chance' with the leader.
"The destiny is such a funny thing." you murmured, it was almost relieving to know that maybe you did had your chance with the metalbender, you wished the situation was different so you could maybe be with her dispite all, but now you had one mission: stop her.
Once at the door, you unlocked it and walked in, as soon as Baatar walked you heard him grumble. In an automatic way, you adopted a defensive position, however when the avatar looked at you, a smile as big appeared on your face.
"Korra!" you exclaimed walking towards her to embrace a hug, she giggled. "I'm so glad to see you here."
"I'm glad to see you too," she said smiling, a couple seconds later, she distanced herself. "Zhu Li told us everything, we're taking Baatar, are you coming with us?"
Without a second thought you nodded and followed the girl out of the airship.
Once at Asami's factory you greeted everyone with joy, feeling like a weight was lifted up your shoulders and when you saw Bolin your eyes watered a little bit.
"I thought you did die!" you said while hugging him with a little strength, he was giggling with pauses. "I didn't have any way to communicate and then Zhu Li left and I was all alone."
The older woman patted your back with a comprehensive smile, while everything went down you stood at the back with your friend, waiting for a conclusion. When the engineer talked to her, your stomach felt fumbling and it didn't get better listening to her answer him. She asked for you and the man told her that you were with him, they had taken you too.
Seeing how the leader shoot at the factory without considering if any of you two would make it out alive somehow made you feel sad, but there wasn't time for any of that as everyone got to action trying to stop her. Lin had given metal string for you to move around and a quick tutorial on how to use it, it took you a couple of falls for you to have the transportation managed.
The fight was intense, there were times were you thought you would not make it alive in one piece. All your muscles were aching in pain at the overwork with your bending, sweat was dripping off your face, but when everyone got into the suit you took the time to rest a little bit with Asami by your side when you went to look for her after she was ejected from the hummingbird suit. Your arms were around her, giving her comfort in her now grieving time.
"I hope they can defeat her." she said, resting her head in your shoulder. You looked to the robot's way and saw fire reflecting, a tiny smile appear.
"I'm sure they will." you said back. "I just wish things were different... I don't recognize Kuvira anymore."
Asami was attentive to you, she gave you a comprehensive gaze. "Things happen for a reason."
"I know that, but-" your talk was interrupted by an explosion, Asami and you covered your head with your hands and looked up afterwards.
The giant robot was halved by the vines power, with no time to waste, you ran to the scene. Before you both arrived, another explosion took place, Asami was quick to pull you to a train entrance for cover. When that one settle, your eyes shined with the new spirit portal in the heart of the city.
A small call for Kuvira left your mouth unconsciously, so you joined the rest of the group to look for the avatar while also you looked for the leader. Your mind was going a thousand per second until you saw the southerner walk out of the portal with the metalbender by her side, you sighed.
"Wait," you called to the Beifongs before they could take her farther. "Can I... talk to her? It will be quick."
Lin and Suyin took just a step back, always vigilant to the leader. "I'm sorry," she started, not allowing you to say anything. "For everything, I'm so sorry for making you go through all of this."
One of your hands look to get one of hers, a melancholic smile was drawn in your face. "You'll do better from now on, I can feel it."
Kuvira let a couple of tears fall from her eyes, you took a step closer to her and your lips met hers in a delicate kiss. The leader was shocked, but tried to reciprocate as fast as she could. You could hear a couple of gasps at your back, but that wasn't your main focus at the moment.
"I'll wait for you." you told her, trying to sound calm. Kuvira's eyes shined with concern. "Just know, I have always loved you... Always."
She smile a little bit and murmur a little 'I love you too' before she was taken away. Turning around to your friends, they all had a shocked face.
"So! Korra saved the city!" you tried to sound as happy as possible for your friend, Bolin gave you back up and cheered for the avatar.
The whole team did a group hug as a celebration, knowing you could also need a hug from them, things will get better with time.

buried in snow for fake fic title! thank you.
BURIED IN SNOW
pairing : water bender!san x non-bender!f!reader genre : atla au, romance, eventual poly relationship warnings : canon atla violence, language, mentions of the fire nation killing people
“wow, san you’re doing a great job!” you say from where you had been watching the water bender practice.
san let’s the water he had been practice with back into the snow before he turns to you with a smile on his face. since you all had arrived in the north pole, both san and hongjoong have been practicing nonstop with water bending masters.
“do you think so?” he asks and you notice the light blush on his face as he scratches the back his neck.
“yep! a real water bending master in the making of you ask me,” you tell him as the two of manage to make yourselves closer to each other. now standing only a foot away from each other, it’s much easier to see san’s blush. “i bet you’ve been practicing a lot during your travels with the avatar.”
“yeah… kind of have to learn on the spot when you’re being chased by the fire nation,” he says with an awkward laugh and you nod your head in agreement.
“yeah, they definitely don’t give up on a chase that’s for sure,” you say causing the two of you to laugh.
“it’s been both dangerous and exciting, but i’m glad i left my village with yunho to come along with hongjoong.”
“yeah traveling with yeosang and mingi has been an adventure.”
“i’m glad hongjoong and yeosang got to reunite with each other. felt like it took a hundred years for them to find each other,” san says as the two of you begin to walk around the tribe together.
“yeah, it was nice seeing them find each other. it was really fun traveling with him and mingi. i’ll miss them.”
“miss them? why?”
“well i mean, i promised yeosang to help him find his friend and i kept it. so i guess i’ll be returning back to my village after this.”
“w-what, you can’t leave like that. yeosang and mingi will be devastated to know you’re leaving,” san says as a small protest.
“but i’m not very helpful in the grand scheme of everything. i can’t bend and i can’t fight, so i’ll be useless to you guys.”
“no, you won’t be useless, san says stopping you from walking as he takes your hand into one of his. you can’t help feel heat rise to your cheeks as he looks you dead in the eyes, all serious.
“you’ve done a lot more than you give yourself credit for, mingi told us about how you risked your life when him and yeosang got sick or how you did a lot to help all the earth kingdom villages. you’ve helpful, so don’t leave, okay?”
“i-i-i’ll think about you,” you say shocked at his words and how passionate he seems about proving you wrong.
“promise?” he asks, holding out his gloved pinky and your eyes drift between his hand and his eyes before you link pinkies with him.
“promise.”
“ah, y/n, there you are!” you and san take a step away from each other and turn to see prince seonghwa walking towards you both.
“yes, prince seonghwa?”
“i found those scrolls you had asked me about and wanted to show them to you,” he voice is soft as he speaks and you perk up at the mentions of the scrolls.
“ah, did you?” prince seonghwa nods and motions to lead you away.
“i’ll see you later, san,” you bid the water bender goodbye before walking off with the water tribe prince.
san watches as you both walk away with a sad smile, hoping that you’ll keep his promise and not leave, but instead join them.

“Little Signs” one-shot (Mario Bros)
(Takes place after the movie. Just my guesses and ideas on what could have happened)
Mario felt sick as he ran through the castle. Why hadn't he seen it before? All those little signs. When they were reunited, Luigi hadn't hugged him as tightly as usual and he had cringed at Mario's touch. Mario had been showing him around the Mushroom Kingdom and Luigi had kept quiet, almost withdrawn.
How did I not see it?
It was after breakfast and Luigi had excused himself to go back to the room Princess Peach had given them. Mario felt a little lonely without him as he wandered around the castle. Heading out to the royal gardens, he was greeting by the Penguin King, King Gustave. "Ah, Mario, it's good to see you." Remembering stories their mother told them, Mario took his cap off and bowed nervously. "Thank you, your majesty." he said softly. He stood upright, cap still in his hands. "I hope you're doing all right." Gustave smiled. "You don't need to be formal around me, if anything I should be bowing to you after all you've done for the kingdoms." Mario gave out a small laugh as he put his cap back on. "I'm just glad I could help." Gustave waved towards the gardens. "Come, walk with me." The two walked the pathways, casually talking about things such as rebuilding Gustave's kingdom. "With Princess Peach's help, my homeland should be restored soon." Gustave said. "But please, tell me how you are. How are you adjusting to life here?" "It's... different," Mario confessed, "but so amazing. Never had anything like the Mushroom Kingdom back where I'm from." "And your brother? I hope his wounds are healing up." Mario stopped dead in his tracks. "W-Wounds?" Gustave turned to look at him, surprised. "He did not tell you?" His voice softened. "Your brother suffered horrific torment at the hands of Bowser. And yet, he remained as brave and kind a soul as I have ever met. Many would have broken at such torture." Mario's blood ran cold. "He never told me... I-I didn't..." He took a step back. "Please excuse me." he muttered, turning and breaking into a run.
He had to stop himself from bursting into the bedroom, instead forcing himself to pause, take a breath and open the door. "Weege?" Luigi was curled up on one of the beds, his back to the door. He sat up, giving Mario a tired smile. "Hey big bro." Mario came over and sat on the edge of the bed. "Weege, did Bowser hurt you?" he reached out and taking Luigi's hand, saw him wince. Mario pulled off his glove and gasped. Luigi's hand was covered in burns and burst blisters. He didn't speak as Mario removed his other glove, revealing more burns. "What did he do to you?" "H-He wanted to know about you, w-wanted to know how to h-hurt you." Luigi was trembling. "H-He held my hands over l-lava until they burned." Tears were gathering in Luigi's eyes. Mario saw a bruise peeking out from his sleeve and went to roll it up, but Luigi pulled away. "Is there more?" Nodding, Luigi tried to undo the buttons to his overalls, his hands shaking too hard from the pain. Mario gently guided his arms down and undid them for him before lifting his shirt. He could only stare in horror. Luigi's chest and arms were bruised with deep gashes and cuts all over. A few hastily applied bandages, caked in a mix of dried and fresh blood, hung loose from some of the wounds. "Oh my god..." "I didn't t-tell him anything," Luigi tried to sound proud, but his voice cracked. "I wasn't going to let him h-hurt you!" he finished with a sob. He leaned forward as he broke down and Mario carefully held him, feeling more gashes along his back.
A little later after Luigi's wounds were cleaned and treated, Mario and Peach were in the bedroom doorway, checking in as he slept. "He went through all that, and still managed to escape and save the others." Mario said. "Why didn't he tell you?" Peach asked. Mario pulled his cap off and ran his fingers through his hair. "Said he wanted to be brave, like me." Peach lightly touched his shoulder. "We'll make sure he gets the best of care." "Thank you, Princess." After watching her leave, Mario went in and sat on the edge of his bed, still watching Luigi. "Little bro, you're braver than I could ever hope to be." he said softly.

Happy Halloween/Birthday Curse!
Warnings: Wish being a little dumb, Rushed story
Note: Little Wish is a Dreamtale Au (Dreamtale belongs to Jokublog)
"Follow me, it's just this way," Curse said with a smile as he held Wishes hand, leading him through the Twilight Forest that surrounded the King of Souls kingdom.
The forests purple and blue leaves blew in the cool autumn wind, adding to the forests' scenic beauty, as long as you ignored the screams of terror coming from the echo flowers that littered every inch of the deceivingly beautiful forest.
"W-where are we even going in the first place?" Wish asked the taller male as he led him into the kingdom, the guards at the front gate not even bothering to stop them.
Curse slowed his paste, allowing Wish to get a better look at the black and purple decorated streets and the smiling faces of the kingdoms' residence. Curse held his hand tightly but was careful not to hurt him.
"This is how we celebrate Spirits Night, or as you call it, Halloween. But no matter what you call it, this time of year is extremely important to the kingdom and its people" Curse started as he led Wish through the winding streets of the kingdom, as if he knew this place like the back of his hand.
"It's the day when the veil between the mortal world and spirit world is at its weakest, allowing those who had passed on to reunite with their loved ones for one night, but as of a few hundred years ago it had also become a celebration of their current ruler and his birth"
Wish nodded along with what Curse was saying, but at the same time, unable to tear his eyes away from the sparkly decorations that the villagers had hung up all around the kingdom with love and care, he could tell that they loved the holiday just as much as Curse said they did.
Wish could see kids wearing costumes as they went house to house, and shop to shop with bags to be filled with candy and toys. He could see Jack-oʻ-lanterns and other carved gourds almost everywhere he looked.
"What's up with that?" Wish asked as he stopped to look up at the trees and saw what looked to be cardboard cutouts of apples covered in sparkly rhinestones on a string hanging from the trees branches.
Curse looked up to see what he was referring to and became visibly nervous at the question, "I-it's nothing! U-ummm... Y-you know how people l-like bobbing for apples? Well, w-we hang up fake ones as that's less dangerous for the little ones!" He quickly explained.
Wish looked at him confused, about to speak again when Curse pulled him away from the hanging apple decorations, "L-lets keep going, Spirits Night only last one day after all! And I still haven't shown you what we came here to see!"
~~~
Curse led Wish to the middle of a cliff that not only had a beautiful view of the village but also the large castle that overlooked it.
He let go of Wishes hand and ran in front of him by a few steps. He did a little spin before proudly gesturing towards a table he had set up with a variety of food and drinks.
"Ta-ah!" He said, looking at Wish with a proud and derpy smile. One that Wish couldn't help but to smile at.
"What's all this about?" He asked as he took a few steps forward to get a better look, only for Curse to grab his hand again and bring him closer to the setup.
"Come on, Wish, it doesn't bite," Curse joked, causing Wish to roll his eyes. Curse pulled a chair out for him, pushing it in before taking his own seat right across from him.
"You still haven't answered my question, Curse. What's all this about?" Wish asked him again, watching as his face started to become dusted with a reddish pink blush and nervously start to fiddle with the black gloves on his hands.
"W-well, you've never experienced anything like this before, a-at least that I know of, and I just wanted to make sure your first Spirits Night is a memorable one," he said with a nervous smile.
Wishes cheeks became dusted with a reddish pink blush as well, feeling touched by the gesture, "Aww, that's really sweet of you, Curse, but today is also your birthday, I should be the one doing something nice for you" Wish said before remembering something.
"Oh! That reminds me, before I forget again..." He trailed off as he rummaged through his bag, looking for something.
Eventually, he pulled out a small neatly wrapped box and handed it to Curse. "Happy Birthday Curse! I hope you like it! Ink and Blue helped me make it, and Lust helped me wrap it," he said with a smile that soon turned to confusion when he saw how red Curses face had gotten.
"Curse?" He asked, "Curse, are you alright?" He asked again, this time getting a slight nod from him.
Curse carefully took the box from him, "T-thank you Wish, I-I really appreciate it... I really do..." He stuttered out, his cheeks becoming an even darker shade of red as he slowly began to open the box, being careful not to tear the wrapping paper.
He pulled out a small handmade chocolate croissant charm attached to a keychain, his favorite pastry. He had only mentioned it once to Wish, but he remembered.
He smiled softly as he looked down at it, "Thank you, Wish, I love it," he said softly, unable to tear his eyes away from the small handmade charm in his hand.
"Happy Birthday Curse, and Happy Halloween," Wish said again with a closed eye smile.
Not a day passed without thinking about the promise he gave to the young prince. Through all of the training hardships, class issues, and school trouble, not once did he think about giving up on his promise. The promise was what kept him going, soon excelled in every class and training. It was obvious that P's future was tied to the royal court, even to the King himself; even if not everyone was fond of the idea, no one could deny his swordsmanship. P was offered many jobs, even offers from different kingdoms, but he didn't even look at them. No, his eyes were set on something, someone else entirely.
P missed Romeo greatly during his training, writing letters to the ever-so-busy prince almost daily, only for the prince to never receive them. Neither one of them was aware of the letters going missing, P simply assuming that Romeo had no time to respond to them; he wasn't offended, and it wasn't enough to cast him away. A promise was a promise.
The young knight observed the king, part of him still unable to believe they were in the same room again, looking at each other like all these years ago. P smiled lightly, even if the smile wasn't reciprocated. He knew it wasn't a childhood game anymore, what they got themselves into was real and a great responsibility. Romeo was trusted with the entire Kingdom, and P was entrusted with protecting Romeo - and oh, he was willing to die for him.
Hearing Romeo's voice, the Knight stood up carefully, the sheathed rapier falling into place on his side. It was an unusual weapon choice for the King's bodyguard, but no one could change P's mind. It was the weapon he was most skilled in and would prove to be the most effective with. Wasn't that the point? As long as he gets the job done.
Silently, P walks towards Romeo, not breaking their eye contact even for a second. The sunlight casts colorful shimmers through the stained glass, the lights dancing across the room and the King's skin, making him look all the more divine. P stands in front of the King and swiftly removes his gloves; it was only right to hold onto the King's when his own was bared. Gently, he takes the King's hand and bows, leaning in close. They touch for the first time in years and the warmth of Romeo's skin is just as P has remembered. Without hesitation, he leans closer and presses a kiss. His lips press against the cold ring and stay there for a brief moment, before P moves away - for a second it looks like he is backing away, but instead, he presses another kiss, this time directly to Romeo's skin, pulling his hand just slightly closer.
With that, it was clear why P was there. Although loyal and now forever obedient to the King, serving the King and Kingdom wasn't the only reason why he was there. No, he was there to reunite with his beloved friend, to never part from him again. Soon, P straightened, letting the hold of their hands linger a little longer than it would be professional, but eventually let go.
"At your service, Your Highness." he said, though his tone was softer than it was supposed to be, once again betraying his true emotion. The King seemed much better at containing it. P is almost tempted to try to break his posture but remains collected. There's time and place for everything, after all. They'll get their chance soon enough.
Missing You at the Masquerade
There’s a masquerade ball at the Ravkan Palace but Nikolai just wants to see his darling. (Mal x Nikolai fluff) ao3 version here
The night was alive with whispers and excitement as the Ravkan Palace hosted a masquerade ball. The event was the talk of the kingdom, and nobles and dignitaries from all across the country had gathered to partake in the grand festivities. Among them was Nikolai Lantsov, the young and charming king of Ravka, known for his love of adventure and knack for handling diplomatic affairs. The ball was vibrant, and an air of pleasantries surrounded the shiny and elegant ballroom. People danced and swayed. Laughter and chatter lingered throughout the room as people danced. The excitement and prospect of dancing with a charming masked stranger enthralled everyone.
Standing in the corner, Nikolai observed the scene before him with a longing ache. His face was covered with a sleek blue masquerade mask, concealing the sorrow he felt from watching everyone dance. His heart lay with one person only. Mal, now a fearless sailor, had been at sea for months. His absence. Their love story had blossomed amid the chaos of battles and the calm of shared laughter, but Mal's absence had left Nikolai pining for his return.
“May I have this dance?” A delicate, soft voice asked Nikolai. He observed the girl in the blue ball gown and purple mask before shaking his head politely.
“I shall have to refuse, dear lady, but I will not be participating in this next dance,” he informed her politely, adding some regret to his voice. Which he supposed wasn’t precisely a lie since he regretted that it was not his beloved asking him to this dance. The girl pouted and left, seemingly dejected. As the evening continued, Nikolai turned down various dance partners, not wanting to dance with anyone other than his beloved. He observed the scene with a pang, deciding to stroll within the palace.
As the masquerade ball reached its crescendo, Mal sneaked into the palace unnoticed, slipping through shadows and blending into the sea of guests adorned in vibrant masks and elaborate costumes. With each step, the adrenaline coursed through Mal's veins, knowing he would soon be reunited with the man he loved. He carefully selected a fitting black masquerade mask to blend in with the crowd and further surprise his love. Finally, Mal spotted Nikolai amidst the group of elegantly dressed individuals. Nikolai was effortlessly charming the crowd as he attempted to evade the many guests, his eyes occasionally drifting to the balcony where he wished, more than anything, for Mal to appear.
As soon as Nikolai had entered the quiet hallway, Mal made his move. Approaching Nikolai from behind, he gently placed a gloved hand over his eyes. “Guess who?” He whispered tenderly with affection.
Nikolai's heart skipped a beat, recognising that voice instantly. "Mal," he breathed, removing the hand from his eyes and turning to see his lover standing there, real and alive. The sight of Mal standing before him filled Nikolai with an overwhelming mix of emotions—relief, joy, and love.
"My king," Mal said softly, dropping to one knee in a half-serious, half-teasing manner, "I've returned from my travels across the seas to be with you."
Nikolai's eyes shimmered with tears, and he embraced Mal tightly. "I've missed you so much," he confessed, his voice barely above a whisper.
Their tender moment was interrupted by the distant sound of music, calling everyone to the dance floor. However, Mal had a different plan in mind. He led Nikolai away from the crowd and out onto the grand balcony overlooking the palace gardens. Under the soft glow of the moon and the twinkling stars, Mal finally removed the elegant black masquerade mask, revealing their face to Nikolai. "It's been too long," Mal said, cupping Nikolai's face lovingly.
"I can't believe you're here," Nikolai replied, his heart still racing with disbelief and happiness. "And I can't believe you've managed to sneak into the palace like this," Nikolai chuckled, his eyes gleaming with admiration for his daring lover.
“And look at you, all dressed up for me,” Nikolai cooed as he admired Mal’s sleek masquerade attire.
"I'd cross oceans to be with you and do anything for you to smile, my king," Mal said, a playful glint in his eyes, yet his words were sincere and truthful. A smooth alluring promise both knew was true.
They stood together in silence for a moment, soaking in the beauty of the night and the joy of being reunited. A few moments later, Mal tenderly extended a hand towards Nikolai, an invitation to dance under the stars.
"May I have this dance, Your Majesty?" Mal asked, a gentle twinkle in his eyes as he smiled fondly.
Nikolai took Mal's hand with a smile that could light up the night sky. "You may, my love."
They swayed to the music, their bodies moving in perfect harmony. With each step, they rediscovered the joy of being in each other's arms, cherishing the stolen moments amidst the grandeur of the masquerade ball.
Mal’s eyes lightened up, giving Nikoai that rare genuine smile he reserves for moments like these. Nikolai’s heart fluttered as his sleek gloved fingers caressed Mal’s cheek gently before finding their way to his hips, pulling him closer as the other hand remained in Mal’s gentle but calloused hand. Mal hums as he guides Nikolai along the balcony, their gaze on each other never faltering. As they danced under the stars, Mal and Nikolai knew that the night belonged to them and that their love could withstand any distance or challenges life threw their way. In each other's embrace, they found solace and strength, knowing that they would always be together, no matter the tides of fate. Amid the masquerade ball at the Ravkan Palace, Mal and Nikolai rekindled their love under the watchful gaze of the stars, promising each other a lifetime of adventures and passion, come what may.
What's that? Five whole fingers? Can it be...
Yep, I have finished the first Glove of the Reunited Kingdom! Now I just need to rearrange the front/back panels on the chart to knit it all in reverse for the left hand and then...cast on again and get ready to complain about the next two inches of corrugated ribbing. :-D The hassle is worth it though, for a glove that fits like...well, like a glove. Um. Anyway it fits just right, and the double-knit fingers should be durable and warm. And the fingertip star is indeed very adorable. ⭐
Truths Of The Kingdom (Drabble) (For @shachou )
"Here's you go, Mokuba." Yugi smiles as he presents the neatly presented box of Capsule Monsters Chess capsules, filled with a selection the younger Kaiba hand-picked himself from what availability was in the store. "Those creatures you picked out are great choices."
"Thanks a lot, Yugi." Mokuba says, taking the box and placing it neatly inside his own golden suitcase that resembled his big brother's own silver one. "Your gramps had some super rare ones even I couldn't pull from the capsule machine! He's sure lucky when it comes to collectibles."
"Yeah, he does. Gramps has some of the most amazing pieces of gaming memorabilia I've ever seen! And each one he takes care of well and cherishes with all his heart, just like I know you will do the same with those capsules."
"Don't worry. I'll take good care of them. They're going right into my capsule display case in my room at home."
However, with how many Mokuba was getting as of late, perhaps he might need to get an additional one. He had been increasing his collection steadily, wanting to get his hands on just about every capsule in existence. It wasn't just for mere bragging rights, but rather as…research for a project he wanted to develop, a secret project not even his big bro knew about.
He then closed up his suitcase upon securing the merchandise inside before picking it up to prepare to take his leave. Mokuba had to be back at the mansion for dinner with his brother, considering it was one of the nights he had the evening off. Meals with his brother were one of the times they were guaranteed to spend time with each other during the day. So, he did well to make sure he didn't dare miss one.
The sight of something on a shelf, something Mokuba can't recall having seen on display before before, stops his exit, the young fourteen year old turning around and pointing to the object of interest.
"You still…have that dueling glove, Yugi?"
"Oh, this?" He says as he moves to take the object down from the shelf, putting the unique article of clothing on one of his hands. "Yeah I still have it. Atem and I had a lot of important battles while wearing this glove. Every experience I had are all still memories I cherish. So, I thought I'd finally put it on display as a memento of my time on that island."
"Hmph. Well, glad you at least got something good out of that whole thing…" The younger boy's voice is laced with obvious disdain. His time on that island is one he couldn't call enjoyable in the slightest. The only good part of it was reuniting with his brother, and even then, that could have happened anywhere.
Yugi, seeming to notice the sudden change in mood, shifts his expression to a somber smile. His eyes look down at the glove then as he appears to be contemplating something. "What you're saying may be true Mokuba, but Duelist Kingdom had as many good memories for me as bad ones. There were times back then I doubted myself, doubted whether I could save my grandpa and both you and your brother."
"…What...did you just say about my brother…?"
"Kaiba never…never told you…?"
"Told me what? What has my brother not told me?!" His hands have long since abandoned his briefcase, instead having placed them on the counter as he closed the distance between them again. "What do you know, Yugi?! Tell me!"
"I-I don't…I-I don't know if I-"
"I don't like being kept in the dark about things, and if you know something Seto hasn't told me, then you should tell me! I…I never thought about it till just now, but I never…asked him why he was on Pegasus' island to begin with. I guess I was so happy to see him again that I just didn't even think to ask. I-If that's what you know Yugi, then please tell me! I deserve to know what happened to him!"
A period of silence fell over the shop as Mokuba continued to stare at Yugi, his body language emphasizing the desperation of his words. He just had to know this information, and considering it had been held up until this point, he is doubtful Seto would tell him if he asked. There was no other option than to seek it from Yugi, for he could think of no one else who would know all the details and relay them to him accurately other than him.
A sigh from the duelist's mouth breaks the silence, Yugi looking back at the Kaiba then. "…I understand. You…You don't deserve to be kept in the dark. Let's…Let's talk in the back. You'll want to take a seat for this."
Mokuba nods as he follows Yugi to the back of the shop, picking up his belongings to take with him. He texts Isano, who was patiently waiting outside for him to finish, that he will be a bit longer than anticipated. He then takes a seat next to Yugi on a couch out back, giving the other his full attention as he begins to tell the story.
"I guess...it's best to start at the beginning." Yugi says as his eyes close, recounting the events in his mind. "The same night that you were taken back to the castle by one of Pegasus' men, your brother arrived in that helicopter we all went home in. I gave him his deck back, and not long after, Jonouchi challenged him to a duel."
"My bother dueled Jonouchi?! But he was such a wimp! Why would my brother waste his time?" Mokuba then pauses for a moment, realizing how what he said might have come off. "N-No offense to him or anything! He just wasn't remotely in my big bro's league back then, and that's the reason I'm confused as to why my brother would even accept his challenge to begin with."
"Your brother wanted to test out his new duel disk prototype because he planned to use it in a duel against Pegasus."
"Against Pegasus? So you're saying my brother came to Duelist Kingdom to duel Pegasus?" Mokuba's question is met by a nod from the other, the teen moving a hand under his chin as he takes a few moments to think. "I guess that makes sense. That creep was trying to take over our company! If my brother crushed him in a duel, then his entire plan would have fallen apart! Just like my bro to take action."
"Y-Yes, but...that wasn't his main reason for wanting to come to the island to duel Pegasus."
"I-It wasn't? Then what was, Yugi?"
"Not what Mokuba, but rather...who."
As soon as Yugi looked over to stare directly at Mokuba, the truth hit the young teen like a truck. You would think that such a sentiment would be obvious, but...it was one he did not even think to consider due to how his brother had treated him prior to Atem's penalty game. And that failure of realization stung...like a bug bite that just kept burning and burning with no signs of letting up.
"...Me? He came to Pegasus' island...to save...m-me?" His breath was shaky as tears threatened to spill from his eyes. The sight prompted Yugi to place his hands gently on his shoulders in order to provide some comfort.
"Of course he did. Mokuba...your big brother loves you. You’re everything to him. I know that probably there were times when it didn’t seem that way, but I know deep down in his heart…he never stopped loving you.”
It was those words that caused the dam to break; for water to finally flow from Mokuba’s purple hues. Any words he wanted to say in response were drowned out by his tears. What was spoken was a truth he wanted to be true deep down in his heart, but for many years he didn’t feel it. For who Seto had become due to their experiences under their stepfather was unrecognizable to Mokuba, and he believed he truly had lost his brother’s love for many years until their reunion on Duelist Kingdom island.
But Yugi wasn’t one to lie. In fact, he was the most honest person he could think of. It’s why he pleaded with him to share this tale in the first place. So, if he believed that sentiment, then it must be true, even if believing it was still hard to swallow considering his brother’s past actions. For he would never forget all the horrible memories he tried to suppress, the ones that would haunt him as nightmares in the dead of night.
“If he did…” Yugi continued after allowing the younger a few moments to let his emotions out. His hands slowly released from the other’s shoulder and his gaze shifted downward. “He wouldn’t have…risked his chip in our duel.”
“His chip…?” Mokuba’s blood ran cold as he remembered something his brother told him once, one of the many 'life lessons' he had been told as a kid. His face turns pale as he looked at the other with a desperate and horrified expression. “You don’t mean his…”
No vocal response is given as the air in the room suddenly feels much 'heavier' than before. Nothing but silence filled the room as the duelist deliberately seemed to avoid Mokuba's gaze. This atmosphere...it could only mean that...what he suspected was true.
That his elder brother...risked his very life to save Mokuba's own...The most selfless act that one could consider...Seto had always been selfless in his protection of his younger brother, but this...? This was...on a whole other level.
It's at that moment that Mokuba can hear a small sniffle reach his ears, but not one that had come from himself. For it was Yugi that had created it, his own purple hues now also being filled with tears. He could not understand why though, despite knowing his brother's rival was a rather empathetic person. So, he decided to ask.
"Yugi...? Why are you...why are you crying too?"
"I was...so scared that he was going to die if I went through with our final attack..." He doesn't elaborate on the details of 'how' Kaiba would have died, for saying it out loud would be much too painful for him. "I had to...stop Atem, who was only trying to help me so we could save my grandpa from Pegasus, from winning the duel..."
"You...You let my brother beat you? Even though...Pegasus had your gramps?" That certainly would explain why his brother said his duel with Atem wasn't over yet shortly before they departed the island. However, Yugi's words still left an important aspect of this unexplained, leaving the teen confused. "My brother...He did...horrible things to you and your friends. Why show him mercy at all? You know...if things were reversed, he probably wouldn't have-"
"Because...I didn't want him to die, Mokuba." Yugi's words cut off the youngest Kaiba's, his words dying in his throat under the weight of the other's sorrow. "I couldn't have let him die...I couldn't let anyone die because of me, especially...not someone I consider and cherish as friend."
Yugi then moves to moves to stand up in order to access a lavender tissue box on the nearby counter. He takes it and brings it over to Mokuba, offering him some. They both took this moment to dry their eyes before continuing on.
"I regret having to fight him at all if I'm being honest with you. I didn't know why he was dueling me at that point, but I should have known it was for an important reason. He had a fire in his eyes like nothing I'd ever seen from him before, a fire that reminded me of Atem's." Yugi then clasps his hands together as if trying to stabilize himself and control his emotions. "We were both just...trying to save our family members from Pegasus. We should have...We should have been fighting him together as comrades, not battling one another as enemies...Maybe if we did...he wouldn't have had to duel Pegasus all on his own."
"So my brother did end up fighting Pegasus after all, then? And since you said earlier you had to save my brother, I guess...I guess I know how that turned out..."
It's no wonder his brother didn't want to discuss it. When it came to losses, his brother didn't handle them well. He never has, even when they were kids before Gozaboru taught him his 'final lesson'. Hearing that he did lose, though, did bring another question to his mind.
"But...how could he have lost? He had the upper hand because of his duel disk, right? That jerk Pegasus must have cheated or something!" Little did he know that last sentiment was technically correct, but that wasn't the key detail that Yugi was going to focus on.
"He...He didn't use it in that duel."
"Why not?! My brother never changes his plans! Unless he...had no choice..."
Mokuba pauses his thought there, trying his best to recall back to what he can remember. One moment, he was in Pegasus' dungeon, then he saw a golden flash of light, and then the next he knew, he was waking up in a bed surrounded by Yugi's friends. That means there was a huge gap of time he wasn't around for, and if his brother was there to save him, then...
"Where was I during all this, Yugi? Because...I don't really remember how I got into that bedroom in the castle..." In response to his asking for more information, Yugi looks to the side again, avoiding his gaze. That signaled to him that whatever happened had to be heavy, but considering what he's already heard in this talk, he imagines it can't get much worse.
"Come on, Yugi. You've already told me this much! I want to know everything, no matter how painful it is to hear! And I promise I won't ask you to talk about this again! So, please...!" The pleading nature of his tone does little to convey his desperation. He was already this far into this, he wasn't about to turn back now. Seeming to realize that, a sigh escapes the duelist's lips before continuing on.
"Pegasus...did the same thing to you as he did to my grandpa. He...trapped your soul in another place...a soul prison, using his Millenium Eye."
Hearing the name of that item caused something inside of the boy's mind to click into place, like a puzzle piece. He remembers a quick sight of a weird eye behind Pegasus' white hair just before everything went black. That must be what Yugi was mentioning. It just had to be.
"With your soul in another place, your body was...under Pegasus' control. He...He used that to his advantage to stop your brother from using his duel disk, for Pegasus wanted you...to be the one to operate it for him. And your brother...refused to fight you, Mokuba. So...they dueled on a table instead."
He sits there, eyes darting to his locket as he processes yet another bombshell of information. His brother was always...hesitant to play games with him when he started to get older. Mokuba could never quite figure out the reason why. Games were something they used to enjoy when they were younger, after all. Though, games were not just 'fun' for his brother anymore, sadly. They were seen as battles, a clashing of souls, and looking at it from that point of view, made everything become clear to him. How could he not have seen this before?!
"Seto..." His brother's name is all he can say, his eyes fixated on the locket that he opened so that his brother's picture was staring back at him. Mokuba then listened intently to Yugi recount the rest of the tale, his hands seeming to grip the picture and hold back more tears with each passing detail. Pegasus using his brother's precious Blue-Eyes against him...His brother's own trapping in a soul prison...How Honda got him out of the dungeon... All of it he became aware of, and he...he could barely handle it.
Following the conclusion of the story, Mokuba bowed his head and expressed his gratitude to Yugi, promising he owes him one for this. Yugi, being the kind of person he was, said to not worry about it and instead said he hoped he gave him what he was looking for. Upon hearing that, the vice president decides to take his leave, making sure to pick up his briefcase and telling the duelist he'll see him again when his gramps gets new capsules in stock.
No words are exchanged as he got into the car with Isano, the teen simply deciding to remain silent as they headed back to the mansion. Upon arrival, still nothing came out of his mouth. His head is kept down down as he headed to his room. He then opens the door then, placing everything to the side before plopping onto his bed face first and pressing a button to close the blackout curtains around it to block everything else out.
Mochi, as always, is there at his side, curling up right underneath his left hand that Mokuba naturally start to use to stroke her soft fur. He uses his other hand to text one of the maids, telling them that he wasn't going to eat dinner with his brother tonight. The reason he gave, that he didn't have much of an appetetie, was both a truth and a lie. It was a lie in the sense that he certainly was hungry, but it was a truth because he couldn't focus on eating when he had much more on his mind.
His heart was a mix of emotions he couldn't quite label. Frustration. Sorrow. Agony. All of those were certainly part of it, but what he felt more than anything was a pain in his chest, akin to a stab through his heart. He hid his face in his pillow as time went by, crying into it heavily as a million thoughts ran through his mind.
Some things he thought were about himself. How could he let himself not question this for so long?! How could he have been so blind to his brother's feelings again?! How could he not see what was right in front him?! What was said through actions and not words?!
Other things he thought were about his brother. How could his brother keep this a secret from him when he expressed he wanted things to be open and honest between them? If he kept this a secret, what else has he not been told? And did his brother still see him as that scared, pathetic kid who clung to him desperately to survive back at the orphanage when Mokuba was a full-blown teenager now?
The thoughts and tears continued to consume him as time passed, the younger Kaiba losing track of it altogether. He ignored the growling of his stomach. He ignored the crustyness of his eyelids. He ignored all signs to stop and take care of himself, signs he always made sure to scold Seto for ignoring, to instead drown in a storm of his own emotions, one that seemed to have no end in sight.
TO BE CONTINUED.
Coroika Pirate AU part 2 (?)
Alright we’re back again :D I have a bit more info on the pirate AU which I’m gonna ramble about ig
Here is part 1 of the AU if you’d like to read that first!
I didn’t really get a lot of other character sketches done, other than Rider--- So i guess in this post I’ll be talking about him & some other characters in this AU! :D There won’t be any drawings in this post unfortunately, just more stuff about the characters :’)
Enjoy :D
(the infodump is after the cut, this might be another long post lmao----)
Rider:
I might try to make a full character thing eventually--- I just haven’t had the chance to draw it out. So, I guess I’ll post that separately :/ Anyways!
He’s technically a part of the S4 pirates, but he’s not on board with them. He’s an ally to them, but they’re not in the same ship.
Captain of the Chartreuse Pirates, which are another band of fearsome pirates. He’s also friends with the Blue Pirates (Goggles, Bobble Hat, Headphones, Specs)
The Chartreuse Pirates is such a cool name fr
Sworn enemies with Captain Gloves (it’s more of a rivalry between the two, nothing serious)
He’s also somewhat well known across the seas for being as strong as the S4 pirates
So basically, he was captured by Emperor’s army (Emperor’s family rules a kingdom in this AU) and separated from his crew. He manages to escape with a few injuries. After running away for some time, he eventually collapses somewhere because of his injuries. Aloha finds him and recognizes him as Captain Rider. After asking Skull what they should do, they decided to bring him aboard since his crew was nowhere to be found.
Rider wakes up a few hours later and he freaks out because he’s in the middle of the ocean aboard Captain Skull’s ship and his crew probably thinks he died or something and now he’s probably going to actually die because Captain Skull whatever evil pirates grrr and he has no boat and he can’t swi--
Anyways, Rider tries to escape but you can’t exactly get too far with a twisted ankle. Aloha found it pretty amusing though, hysterical even.
Mask manages to catch Rider, sits him down, and gets him to chill out. He explains what happened and a whole “we’re not gonna hurt you” spiel
Eventually the S4 helps Rider reunite with his crew and as gratitude, Rider and the S4 become allies and help each other out whenever one needs it.
Rider is trying to be a kinder person
He’s pretty good at playing cards, specifically Blackjack and Speed.
Gloves:
Captain of the Dualie Pirates, a crew of pirates known for using two weapons. Two swords or two guns-- because they’re cool like that B)
Captain Gloves is fairly new to the whole “pirate” biz, he thinks they’re cool and wanted in on the action overseas.
He thinks Captain Skull is cool and wants to meet him someday, although his crew is HIGHLY opposed to this (they could probably die)
He also thinks the Wireglass Pirates are cool too and wants to be friends with their captain.
His crew also HIGHLY opposes this, as they are definitely going to die if they ever cross paths with the Wireglass Pirates.
Gloves is bummed that he can’t meet the S4 pirates, but is still hopeful he’ll run into them eventually.
He’s friends with the Blue Pirates & Captain Hachi
He’s fiercely competitive, he doesn’t take losing very lightly.
He doesn’t have any scars of his own-- yet, but he thinks they’re cool
Gloves is friends with Prince, and sometimes sneaks into the kingdom to visit him
He’s rather clumsy even though he tries to look cool
Emperor & Prince:
(I put them under the same header since there’s not much about either of them)
Emperor’s family rules over a kingdom, Emperor is next in line for the throne and he’s still learning to be a king alongside his younger brother.
Prince often sneaks out of the palace to wander around the town square. His brother actually knows about this, but chooses not to tell their parents.
Emperor doesn’t really like pirates, but he does know a few of them.
Emperor is aware that Gloves sneaks in to visit Prince, but he chooses not to do anything about it since his brother seems to enjoy Captain Gloves’ company.
Prince helped Rider escape after learning Rider knew Captain Gloves.
The Wireglass Pirates:
Everyone knows to stay out of the Wireglass Pirates’ way, as they are some of the most powerful pirates to patrol the waters. Even the S4 pirates steer clear of them.
They supposedly got their name from their Captain, but it’s not really known where the name came from.
The Wireglass Pirates will try to take any ship they encounter, regardless of who it is. Very few survive their raids.
There are some rumors that the Wireglass Pirates serve Emperor, which explains why he hasn’t ordered anyone to stop them. However, it could also be because a lot of sailors are absolutely terrified of them.
Ocho is thought to be a part of this crew, but nobody really knows for sure. He’s mostly found away from the crew and hanging out by himself.
Ocho sometimes interacts with the S4 and Captain Rider.
The S4 could probably beat them, but they don’t want to risk trying.
The Wireglass Pirates are also in possession of these things called “Black Labels” which temporarily disable weapons. But only the Captain is in possession of these.
“Black Labels” are illegal and supposed to be outlawed in the seas. Not a lot of pirate crews use them.
If Black Labels were stuck onto a pirate, they are unable to use their special ability for a little bit.
aaaaand, I think I’ll just end the infodump here in case it gets too long to read :’] Thank you for reading! :D
Race: Human
Birthday: 14/05
Fodlan birthday: 14th of the Harpstring Moon
Age: 9 before timeskip - 14 post-timeskip
Relatives: younger brother to Dimitri Alexandre Blaiddyd, Edelgard von Hresvelg , Adel von Hresvelg, Aline von Hresvelg
Nationality: Faerghan, Agarthan, Adrestian
Hometown: Fhirdiad
Residence: Garreg Mach Monastery
Factions: Imperial army/TWSITD (formerly)
Occupations: gremory, little sibling, researcher
Backstory:
Early Life/Academy phase:
As the name indicates, he's related to both the Hresvelg and Blaiddyd families, though he is actually the son of Lambert and Patricia and possesses a crest of Blaiddyd. During the tragedy of Duscur, he was in his mother's carriage and got abducted by TWSITD: but instead of outright killing the kid, they decided to raise him as one of their own, as a way to have a royal replacement with a semblance of legitimacy in case Edelgard turned against them too soon and they had to get rid of her. However, even though he was forced to do terrible things at the hands of TWSITD (namely experiments) from a very young age and was essentially brainwashed by them, he never forgot his older brother, and deeply wished to be reunited with him. During his eight/nine years amidst their ranks, he basically became a child soldier, as well as good at magic: however, he also suffered a major injury under mysterious circumstances which left his right arm badly burnt. As a result, TWSITD came up with an artificial relic, his glove, which channels the power of his Crest and boosts his magical attacks instead of his physical ones- his favorite spell being an altered version of dark spikes (basically the only one he’ll use).
Timeskip Phase:
A little after the start of the war, Edelgard manages to learn about her little brother's existence and reveals to him the manipulation he's been subjected to his whole life. Though still in the clutches of TWSITD, who he now really wants to see dead, he sides with his newfound family (Edelgard and the other Hresvelg siblings), never giving up the hope to see his older brother Dimitri again- and trying very hard to prevent him and Edelgard from killing each other. Along the way, he learns again what it is like to just be a kid-and to be a sibling.
War Phase:
During the war, Loki sometimes fights along his siblings on the battlefield (as support), mainly when there is a chance of his older brother Dimitri being present. He spends a lot of time trying to convince him to join Edelgard’s side, to no avail, before he understands he can control neither of his siblings’ actions and he will never have the family he wants; as a last ditch effort, though, he will save Dimitri from death in routes where he would usually die.
In the meantime, he tries to get his hand on as much info about TWSITD’s victims and the experiments they went through, and tries to develop ways to heal them- or at the very least, honor their memory and find the families of the deceased.
Post-Canon:
After TWSITD are defeated, Loki takes the time to heal and takes the radical decision to chop his right arm off and start wearing a prosthesis. He also abandons his relic-lite glove, since he wants to turn that page of his life and doesn’t intend to fight anymore. Later on, he moves to Faerghus with Aline, where they help rebuild the Kingdom and he becomes a teacher at the Fhirdiad Magic Academy. In parallel, he puts in a lot of work in order to help the Agarthan people recover from TWSITD’s influence and find their place within the rest of Fodlanese society, as well as promote the Agarthan culture (I refuse to think that all Agarthans are evil after 1,000 years; my personal headcanon is that Agartha is an authoritarian regime ruled by TWSTID. Furthermore, I really want to see an underground light festival where everyone wears makeup inspired by the constellations and stars. I can do what I want.)
Personality:
Loki is a very smart kid, but his life experience has led him to become very distrusting of adults and other people in general. As a rule, he is a pretty sarcastic person and is cold to people he does not feel uncomfortable with, to the point that he often lashes out at them undeserved. However, he is also someone who deeply wants to do good, and is sweet and caring towards those he trusts- as well as a massive sucker for hugs.
His gender expression, but also his makeup, is a way for him to express his personality; he starts using more colors post-canon as he is more and more at peace with his life.
As a result of his trauma, he suffers from selective mutism; he also hates having blood on his hands, and has a knee-jerk reaction to having anything slightly dirty or reminiscent of blood on himself.
Gameplay:
it's better for everyone's sanity if i don't try to do stats i know nothing about ; but his class is Gremory. He excels in Science, and his magical attack is by far his highest stat; he is decent in faith and in magical defense, however he absolutely sucks at everything else. His physical defense is six feet under, further impeded by the fact that his right arm is an obvious weak point for any enemy.
Recruitment:
Since he doesn’t appear until post-timeskip, he isn’t recruitable.
Gift List:
Plushies are a sure hit.
Meal List:
I’m guessing Agarthan alimentation is pretty different from the reste of Fodlan’s alimentation, so he keeps expanding his tastes as time goes on, although he might sometimes have a knee-jerk reaction to it. He loves lemonade though.
Lost Items:
Balm: a half-used balm, the kind youd use to treat a bad burn.
Sketchbook: a sketchbook written in an unrecognizable alphabet. It contains a lot of anatomical sketches.
White glove: a glove that reminds you of the one Edelgard used to wear at the Academy.
Stay careful !
Let’s make it together.
That was, for lack of other words, badass.
