She has not just been raped and murdered, she was very much tortured and brutalized like Nirbhaya. It is all over the Bengali news. I don't understand why no one is talking about this.
A 2nd year Respiratory Medicine in a well known government medical college in Kolkata, West Bengal, India is found in a semi-naked state and the college/ hospital called it a suicide.
I'm a MBBS student in second year. After reading about her, what crossed my mind is the amount of times she would have felt this fear, before this worst fear of hers eventually materialized.
"A young resident doctor was found dead in the seminar room of her medical college in Kolkata. Initial autopsy report suggests possible rape and murder."
As all are saying,
She wasn't walking the street at odd hours. She wasn't wearing clothes that were provocative. She wasn't loitering in dangerous neighbourhoods.
She was a resident doctor, looking for a place to rest in her own hospital.
She had been on duty and had gone to rest in the early hours of Friday.
The one place which was supposed to guarantee her safety failed her, miserably.
Someone comes, rapes a female pg who is merely resting in a seminar hall because there is no proper place for her to rest, brutalized her and kills her. How did NO one know? The college and police initially call it a suicide. Excuse me? It is also being said that under pressure from local politicians, the Principal and Dean attempted to alter the post-mortem report. Autopsy confirms sexual assault.
What are the actions taken? One man arrested because his behavior seemed "shady". This is clearly not an act of one man. And this was a very well aware of and a well executed criminal act.
Also, all this happening in WB right when the situation of bangladesh is in turmoil and news of Bangladeshi Hindus being killed and tortured, seems wrong, VERY WRONG. Happening right before NEET-PG, as 24 lakh doctors prepare to write an exam on Sunday to be resident doctors, this news has wrapped us all in agony and rage,
What are they working so hard for? Why should they aspire to be in a system that ignores their basic needs? The minimum requirement of a workplace is safety. That should be non-negotiable.
This profession demands extereme hardwork, a lot of mental strength and Physical Assaults, harassment, low paying jobs with odd working hours with intense humiliation. Now its the worst of all seeing a bright mind losing her life in the most disrespectful state of all. This should never happen to any woman.
I'd also like to question why isn't any big media house covering this news, where are all the international news channels all this time.
What are the students in other medical colleges doing? This talks about their own safety and lives. What are the medical students across the world doing? It's time for us to stand for the most basic Human right, safety.
Yesterday when my roommate, an MBBS final year intern was heading for her night posting, I feared and prayed for her to come back safely. Thinking about it, in a few years I will also have night posting, I'll also return from my hospital duties late at night. I'll also have to go through the same fear, and I'll also have to keep praying that my worst fears don't turn into reality. So many female doctors, nursing staffs, other Healthcare workers, other working women, non-working women go through the same fear, probably multiple times a day.
It is a shame to be born in such a disgusting world and society, it is shame to witness such a brutal crime, and it is a shame to live in this fear daily.
Those RAPISTS need to be hunged infront of the whole natio...if needed burned alive. People should fear the idea of raping, more than getting raped.

apparently a radfem movement called 4B is getting a surge of popularity on social media since the election, with the reasoning, "if men do not respect us, they should not have access to us at all." the idea is to withhold all sex and intimacy until women have all their rights.
and like. putting aside all the many many reasons that radfem ideology and bioessentialism sucks, and the fact that "men" are not a group you can "negotiate" with as a whole because they are not an organized group with leadership, this is just....a very very dangerous game to be playing.
like. okay. there are two scenarios on how this could play out, because again, it isn't any sort of organized "protest" between ""the sexes,"" it's just gonna be some women and their partners, who do not really give a shit about what a bunch of strangers on tiktok are doing.
option 1) he already respected women's rights, voted against abortion bans, and cannot actually change anything on his own. you are making both him and yourself miserable for literally no reason at all. you have turned what should be a really nice relationship where you can relax into a weird adversarial thing that abhors real vulnerability. this is the BETTER option.
option 2) he IS a trump supporter who thinks he should have access to all women's bodies. in which case, saying "no more sex until you give me rights" is NOT going to go down the way you think it is. you do not have collective bargaining power here. you are going to get very badly hurt, and an already probably abusive relationship is going to get a lot worse. that's not to say that a woman in that position would in any way "deserve" it, just that. when you are faced with an abuser, you should absolutely not try to play mind games or reassert your power to them. you should try and get the fuck out. call real organizations that can help you, don't follow random bullshit tiktok trends. those influencers will NOT give you a place to stay when shit hits the fan.
anyway the national domestic violence hotline is 800-799-SAFE.
#politics /#rape culture /#some women are leaving their husbands over this#if they were abusive this is good!#do that more!#but not because he's A Man. because he was abusing you#dont jump to being a lesbian as if no women could abuse you.#you just shouldnt date people that vote against your rights period. and plenty of radfems are republicans.

Feminists also redefined rape as a method of political control, enforcing the subordination of women through terror. The author Susan Brownmiller, whose landmark treatise on rape established the subject as a matter for public debate, called attention to rape as a means of maintaining male power: "Man's discovery that his genitalia could serve as a weapon to generate fear must rank as one of the most important discoveries of prehistoric times, along with the use of fire and the first crude stone axe. From prehistoric times to present, I believe, rape had played a critical function. It is nothing more or less than a conscious process of intimidation in which all men keep all women in a state of fear."

it's good this is my only social media and that i've insulated myself from the worst of this place. i'm not watching that video. i understand the value in bearing witness. but for me, it's like this. i know what's been happening to the hostages already, i don't need to be convinced. i don't want to violate them further by watching the beginning of the worst part of their lives and i don't want to be even more secondhand traumatized either. it would make me less, not more, able to do what i can do to be of use to the hostages.
but even more than i'm not watching that video, i'm not watching the absolutely psychopathic response to it by the mobs who are indulging in an orgy of probably the two oldest forms of hatred in the world--misogyny and antisemitism.
when i heard this video would be released, i had that impulse to hope that maybe now my former friends and community would finally get it. but it's not the case. we've all known this whole time. there's been no mystery about what kind of violence the go-pro wearing terrorists are perpetrating. we've already seen enough to know, even without seeking it out. journalists have described it thoroughly as well. if someone says they need to see something more explicit for "proof," they're nothing but consumers of terrorist torture porn. it's pure רַע
i'm not even going to try writing any appeals about these womens' humanity because anyone who doesn't get it, that's because they don't want to get it and they probably never will. they're getting off on this dehumanizing violence and trying to join it as part of the virtual mob. they're empty people and they are not going to change.
we are looking directly at this hate, some of us for the first time, and it's a window through time, through which we can see what many generations of Jews, and particularly Jewish women, have seen before. the violence and hatred is unchanging. only the technology of the violence has changed. the violence itself has not. the hatred has not. we know more about every previous age now, more about how our ancestors' hearts felt when they were breaking, the fear and anger, the determination to survive and make something better.
it's unbearable to know how outnumbered we are, how much of the world is morally and ethically dead when it comes to us, and how many of them accept, deny, are indifferent to, or celebrate this violence against us. it always has been unbearable, untenable, and yet we're here: the latest in a long line of generations who move forward even when it feels impossible, and do what we can to make a better world for the next ones with the conviction that no one should be hurt like this. never again.
and now i'm going back to listening to Israeli music. because i try to experience some kind of peace and calm each day, whatever i can, so i will have some strength to send. through davening, i try to send strength to the hostages to help them survive. we're one family, and all deeply connected. i have to hope that it helps in some way.
if you want to say Mi Sheberach and Tehillim for these women and don't know how, please reach out. or just daven from the heart for them, dedicate it to their merit, say each of their names out loud. light an extra Shabbat candle for them. set an extra place at your table. put something about them in a public place to make their reality present there. you'll have to protect it from attack. but do it anyway.
and if you want to know what you can do to pressure your political representatives or organizations to do something to free these captives, and all of the captives, i'll be here to talk about that as well.

Independence day? The very foundation of Independence is safety. What is the point of hoisting the tricolor when the white is stained with red.
There was a time when people believed of this profession as next to God's, people would fall into the feet of healthcare workers, join their hands to thank them. I think you guessed it already, medicine. And now?
"A female doctor resting in R.G. Kar hospital's seminal hall gets raped, brutalized, murdered."
"a doctor was tied to a tree, robbed and his wife and daughter gang-raped in Gaya district of Bihar"
"two resident doctors of Banaras Hindu University were beaten up by patient's attendants and goons"
"Two resident doctors of JJ Hospital, Mumbai were beaten up by patient's relatives"
"Two medical residents working at the Sassoon Medical College were brutally thrashed; a junior resident doctor suffered a skull fracture; a doctor suffered fractured ribs and broken bones"
"a junior lady doctor on night duty was stabbed to death by a patient"
And this has recently come to light. We have never even talked about our nursing staff and the amount of harassment they face. If doctors commit suicide from exploitation and extreme mental and physical breakdown, nurses commit suicide as result of extreme harassment and abuse, be it physical, sexual, mental. I hope everyone remembers Aruna Ramchandra Shanbaug.
The non-medic communities are not even willing to take a stand for us.
Everyone wants world-class but affordable treatment, even free treatment, free medicines and empathetic and responsible doctors, but no one has the bloody balls to take a stand and raise their voices for us.
This is not what our families sent us for. This not what we opted for. This is not what we're working are asses off for.

"not all men" but not in a men's rights way, in a "it's important to remember that men aren't the only perpetrators of cruelty, abuse, and evil and that subconsciously or consciously training yourself to view men as inherently evil and everyone else as inherently safe inadvertently puts you in a position where you're both vulnerable to attack or harm from people you otherwise wouldn't suspect, AND causes you to limit the number of allies you might have in a time of need" kind of way.
#This is why I worry a lot about young women (teens and twenties) who seek comfort and validation in r//adf//em circles. Many of them have#been hurt through rape or abuse—commonly at the hands of fathers/brothers/uncles or otherwise trusted adults—and have decided that men must#be cruel because both they and their female/female + queer friends have similar stories of abuse. So they seek out others who share this#belief but in doing so they make themselves vulnerable to further abuse and manipulation. I haven't really observed r//adf//em circles long#enough to be able to say what I'm about to say with certainty but I would put money on the idea that being a RF on social media shares the#same hallmarks as being in a cult because the behavior of the adherents is far too similar than that of tradwives or any other modern cult.#Other RF's use the hurt and abuse these young women have experienced and twist and manipulate their truth to foster a sense of#us-against-them cruelty against a population that could in actuality be their fiercest allies. It's such a vicious and relentless cycle.#That's why when I see RF's on here all I feel is pity — both for the cruelty and abuse they've witnessed and suffered but ALSO for the way#they've allowed that abuse to be weaponized against them... many before they were too young to realize it was even happening. We as a#society have got to get better at protecting our young girls and women from r//adf//em ideology. I don't even mean that in a#“destroy the patriarchy” kind of way because that's such a lofty and disorganized goal. I mean it in a “we have to go into uncomfortable#spaces and show these girls love and empathy because right now the only people validating them are people who use their hate and mistrust#against them and if we want to save our young girls and Queer sisters from this pipeline we have to do the dirty work“ kind of way.#But anyway.#jack.txt

how do people deal with the cognitive dissonance of seeing trans women be outed as rapists and abusers regularly but then claim that ASAB has nothing to do with violence. It's easy to list off trans women rapists but it's hard to come up with even 3 names for trans men
how do u deal with the cognitive dissonance of being a fucking moron. also i fucked ur dad.
#ask avishai#also it’s bc 90% of those claims against trans women are false#trans women are more likely to be the victims of rape than they are to rape anyone#individual incidents do not equal ‘literally everyone who was assigned male at birth is Bad’#bc idk if u r aware but there are rapists who were assigned female at birth#usually cis#but my guess is u do not want to talk abt that

it is pretty upsetting to me though that while yall will rightfully call it out when people are antisemitic and misogynistic to israeli women, almost none of you had that same care when numerous blogs on here have been justifying and dismissing israeli war crimes against palestinians & therefore palestinian women.
#idk its pretty clear to see the disparity in outrage here. ppl were denying rapes of palestinian women#on my post before and they were from radblr & they deny all war crimes against palestinians even when proven#and it did not get this kind of outrage#clearly at the end of the day some of u do only care about israelis and not the group israel has been oppressing severely for around a#century. and thats just sad.#radblr

Julian Borger in WashingtonThu 22 Feb 2024 14.12 EST
UN experts say they have seen “credible allegations” that Palestinian women and girls have been subjected to sexual assaults, including rape, while in Israeli detention, and are calling for a full investigation.
The panel of experts said there was evidence of a least two cases of rape, alongside other cases of sexual humiliation and threats of rape. Reem Alsalem, the UN special rapporteur on violence against women and girls, said the true extent of sexual violence could be significantly higher.
“We might not know for a long time what the actual number of victims are,” said Alsalem, who was appointed special rapporteur by the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) in 2021.
She noted that reticence in reporting sexual assault was common because of the fear of reprisals against victims. She said that in a wave of detentions of Palestinian women and girls after the outbreak of the Israel-Hamas war on 7 October, there was an increasingly permissive attitude towards sexual assault in Israeli detention centres.
“I would say that, on the whole, violence and dehumanisation of Palestinian women and children and civilians has been normalised throughout this war,” Alsalem said.
There was evidence of widespread sexual violence by Hamas against Israeli women and girls during the 7 October raid in southern Israel. The Association of Rape Crisis Centers in Israel has reported that the use of rape and other abuse by the Hamas attackers was “systematic and intentional”. Those assaults, which were also condemned by Alsalem and the other UN experts, are to be the subject of a report by the UN secretary general’s special envoy on sexual violence, Pramila Patten.
Alsalem said she did not know whether Patten’s report would cover the allegations of rape and sexual assault of Palestinians women and girls, but that she was hoping to discuss the issue with her.
The Israeli government has rejected the allegations of sexual violence against Palestinians as “despicable and unfounded claims”.
The US state department spokesperson, Matthew Miller, said the administration was aware of the allegations and had asked the Israeli authorities to investigate.
“I cannot independently confirm the reports,” Miller said. “I will say that we have been clear that civilians and detained individuals must be treated humanely and in accordance with international humanitarian law. We strongly urge Israel to thoroughly and transparently investigate credible allegations and ensure any accountability for abuses and violations, and that will continue to be our position.”
In their report, delivered on Monday, the UN experts said: “We are particularly distressed by reports that Palestinian women and girls in detention have also been subjected to multiple forms of sexual assault, such as being stripped naked and searched by male Israeli army officers. At least two female Palestinian detainees were reportedly raped while others were reportedly threatened with rape and sexual violence.”
The independent experts, who have been appointed by the UNHRC but do not represent the UN, reported that degrading photos of female Palestinian detainees, reportedly taken by Israeli soldiers, had been uploaded to the internet.
The experts said women and girls had not been spared in the widespread killing of Palestinian civilians. With the estimated death toll in Gaza now close to 30,000, the experts pointed to reports of women and girls being arbitrarily killed in Gaza, often with family members.
“We are shocked by reports of the deliberate targeting and extrajudicial killing of Palestinian women and children in places where they sought refuge, or while fleeing,” the experts said in a joint statement. “Some of them were reportedly holding white pieces of cloth when they were killed by the Israeli army or affiliated forces.”
