Fuck it, let's try again.

Some time ago I created a forum that didn't stay lively for very long, unfortunately, but I don't want to give up on it as I think forums offer something that no other tool for online community can offer: an actual community that doesn't rely on everyone acting like their own PR/marketing team.

So here it is, in case anyone's interested:

What does it have to offer?

A place to meet artists and roleplayers from the FFXIV fandom, where you won't be assailed by notifications like a Discord server, that's LGBTQ-friendly and won't ask you to post all the time to remain visible (contrary to social media).

What you'll find:

RP sections for your RP threads, easier to manage than on Tumblr, and without the pressure of being seen online on Discord because you wanted to talk to your friends but aren't in the mood for RP

A place to get help to create your character or write an NPC, if you're feeling insecure and want to try your hand at writing/roleplaying

Galleries for your writing, fanarts, screenshots, irl craft, etc. where you don't have to worry about peak hours to be seen

Forums where you can gush about your own characters and get asked questions: no need to have a big following anymore!

A place where you can discuss the lore and share your meta analysis to your heart content

A place to organize your own in-game event and promote it, once again without needing to build a big enough following for it to be noticed!

Yes, there's a NSFW section (that you have to ask to get access to). Forumactif—the host—is not in favor of this, however, so if Etheirys has enough success I might consider hosting it myself (but I'm not rich so we'll start with the free alternative for now and just keep it on the low XD)

I am taking suggestions to improve it and I'll gladly help you and answer your questions if you're not familiar with forums (or this sort of forums, anyways).

For those who don't know me or find me intimidating to talk to (I know it has happened) I've been leading communities big and small for about 18 years now, and I've always put a big emphasis on fairness, communication and patience.

I submitted a suggestion to FFXIV Forums

HERE IT IS:

"I adore FFXIV, but one of the things in this game that is extremely grating is the how alt-unfriendly it is.

I realize people use the excuse of 'we can use all jobs on one character', but that honestly does not appeal to me in the slightest. Most jobs do not work for my character, who I write stories about and roleplay. This same situation applies to most glams, pets, and mounts.

The ironic thing is, I would do far, far more in this game if only it were more alt friendly. I would likely actually try to dive into more extreme PvE content, but as it stands now, it simply is not worth it. A lot of content just does not fit for this character, yet she is meant to remain my main, and I want to do the content on her.

I do not have enough time or want to level up and get through the story on every single alt I want to write a story about, and to have to grind everything out a second time, it makes collecting in this game for people like me pointless.

Therefore, I propose an idea: All mounts should be shared. All hairstyles should be shared. All minions should be shared. In the case of glams, might I suggest a special storage chest that is account bound, allowing you to swap glams to your alt? Quite like 'transmog collections' in other games (and mounts/pets being shared in general).

If the above is considered unreasonable - I think it is fair to at least say we could farm everything multiple times, BUT on a main which then could provide the item to the alt.

Example: A glam drops, you can only use it on one character, but you can transfer it to a different character even if it doesn't apply to the one you got it on.

Example 2: I get a mount drop on this character, don't really want it on this one, put it in my chest to give it to an alt.

Example 3: I have a mount collected already, but get another drop, so transfer it to a different character.

Example 3 would also encourage people to farm even more, because there would be a point to getting multiple drops, as we'd be able to give them to alts.

Please at least consider something like an account bound chest, thank you!"

THOSE WHO WANT ALT FRIENDLINESS IN THE GAME - We'd have to bring it up on the forums, or get the word out there more via Twitter. I use the hashtag #altfriendlyxiv or #altfriendlyffxiv.

Something as simple as being able to mail alts & all shop items being account bound rather than just the non-holiday mounts would be great, in the very least. (Aside from the boosts, obviously.)

As Gulool Ja Ja lay dying, his flesh withering, his milky eyes shift their focus to find the champion ⸺ his champion, his Yein of Iron ⸺ knelt in the corner of his vision.

"I see... a sparrow," he rumbles weakly, the corners of his mouth raising half an ilm in a valiant effort to smile. He can hear his children's weeping still, despite his efforts to assuage their sorrow.

Yein returns his smile, as he knew they would. Bare palms normally protected by leather and metal touch his lips, brushing over skin and teeth. It touches him in a way he had come to love.

"We might be too large in size," he muses, "to become one of your little birds..."

A wet sound leaves Yein's scarred lips, letting the dying sovereign glimpse their pointed teeth.

"Maybe you will return as a very large bird," they offer, "with two heads." Despite their forced mirth, their fingers are trembling as they caress him.

"Perhaps," Gulool Ja Ja heaves in agreement. He attempts to see them more clearly, hoping to commit their shape to his final memory. A quivering smile shifts his wrinkled lips against their touch.

"I cannot wait... to introduce you to him. My brother..."

"Me too, dawnlight," the elezen says. As Gulool Ja Ja's eyes drift shut, they mirror his expression and curl forward to press their scarred cheek against the skin between his eyes.

Nearby, Wuk Lamat is screaming one last time for her papa.

Horizon (noun):  1. The apparent intersection of the earth and sky as seen by an observer. 2. The limit or edge of the observable universe. 3. The range of one's knowledge, experience, or interest. A nun. A river. A journey. Who can say?

You tip over the edge of one world and into another.

Sometimes it feels like falling from a cliff, plunging into the hungry maw of the ocean. Sometimes it feels like a river rises around you. Water bubbling over your feet, tugging insistently upon the hem of your dress, flowing over the top of your head. This time it feels like ice cracking beneath your bare feet. A sudden, sharp fear driven like a spike at the base of your skull.

You cannot say for certain what this place is. Words have never been your strong suit and even less so the educated ones a proper scholar might use. You’ve a guess, of course, but it is something you’ve always kept close. This is where you do your work. It is not a difficult leap. 

The water is frigid and pitch-black. You feel hands ghosting over your body, your hair, your face. Thumbs brush your closed eyelids. You see. The currents of the water around you are suddenly illuminated; faint blue, glowing dim against the swallowing darkness around you. They should be brighter. They should be moving with great joy. Yet when you reach for those currents they react slowly and hang limply; dying. They flicker when you reach too far and your cry of anguish escapes your throat in bubbles. Dread spirals out from that point of fear; tendrils wrapping slimy feelers around your spine, your ribs, pulling itself into the hollow of your chest to feast and grow. In that cold, in that dark, among dying, twinkling lights it is easy to curl around it. To see the dread as certainty. As always, you are saved from yourself. The feeling of hands come once more. Impressions of fingers pulling at your limbs, unfolding them, drawing your head up and directing your gaze -- West.

He was not always a wanderer, in fact he was a weaver of some renown from Gridania before deciding to set out for Ishgard with his companion and lover. Now he searches for a way to break the curse and put his lover's soul to rest, by any means necessary.

A former Imperial assassin, titled Censor, Avi was loyal to the empire until he became too much of a threat to leave alive. Every assassin of his order has been executed in secret after a certain number of years in service, and this was his fate too. Though he does not believe in gods, he thought it a miracle when he was taken in by a nobleman who happened upon him on death's door. As fate would have it, the man was a relative of the Lady of Haukke Manor, and Erravi escaped with quite a few new scars after his experience.

Micans was born in Garlean territory, the youngest of four children. His mother passed away shortly after his birth, something his father blamed him for until his dying day. Before that though, it was 12 years after Micans' birth that his father almost killed him, leaving him with a scar from the gunshot. His siblings bid him to run, and so he did, eventually making his way to Eorzea and starting his journey as the Warrior of Light. At times he believes Hydaelyn made the right choice, as the very Crystal of Light She bestowed upon him was furthering his light poisoning.

Several of you probably remember this sundrop bombshell from years back. In fact, many of you have asked if I'd ever bring her back. Well, going into Dawntrail finally feels like the right time to breathe some new life into this character, so consider this her official return.

If you don't know her, I'd like to introduce you to my lynx inspired surf brat, X'issi ( shee • ee • see ) Sunde ( soon • dae ). Part of the coastal Lynx Tribe of La Noscea, she's lived almost her entire life in and around the isle. With an affinity for water and water related magics this woman is sure to win you over with her sunny charms and can-do attitude.

I have a lot of lore for this character, including tribal lore that I'll have to figure out how to organize into spaced out doses for you all to consume. Because when I say its a lot, I mean it is a LOT of lore. I used to write this girl like crazy back in Heavensward days.

But for now, here's some important bullet points for her character...

Owns her own Surf Shack where you can buy boards she's made and her own board wax. Naturally she also does board repairs.

Up before dawn to relay the morning surf report for Costa del Sol.

Surf and swim instructor - Side hustle - mostly for tourists.

Sight Seer and Expedition guide - another side hustle - also mostly for tourists.

Water Dancer, but not like the XIV job. Dance is intrinsic to her tribe lore which is very Polynesian islander influenced.

Part of a tribe who prays to both Llymlaen and Oschon. Tribe is somewhat nomadic. Lives on the shores in the warmer months, and moves inland in the cooler months. (also reflects their dieties)

Has a way with water magic... kinda like a waterbender? I'll take more time to explore this with you guys later. But I will admit its strongly waterbending influenced.

Has a baby raptor companion named Thunk who is an absolute MENACE. ...But we love him.

She absolutely loves fishing.

|| OOC Moment here, but I've been meaning to make more friends on FF, and I always get so shy to approach anyone because I just created a new account and got back into the game. I really do want to dive into more lore creation, more rping, and leveling, I love to chat while I game and I usually end up just hanging out with my sibling. But I definitely want to branch out more as I dig deeper into the other Expacs and the storyline. So please! NB: French names aren't nearly as unisex as in the Anglo-sphere. If you care about that (and you don't have to), I'd suggest refraining from using a typically feminine name for a man or vice-versa.
