Witch Ring Excerpt
Since this has gotten such a warm reception, I thought I'd share a bit from the opening chapter. It's kind of long so I put part of under the cut. Enjoy!
"Miss? It's time Wizard Enoch has sent for you, all is prepared."
Saranna looked up at the young guards, all four of them staring at her sadly. They hated to make her wear chains, but Enoch worried her fear might make her try something foolish. Since it was a choice between her or her family surviving, she had no plans to run away from her fate.
"Of course. Thank you for let me have a few moments of peace first."
"You're welcome. You're making a big sacrifice for us. We won't forget." The young blue eyed guard that spoke, gave her a bow.
With a nod of her head, she began to follow them back through the castle, paying more attention to the ornate paintings, tapestries, and decorations that decorated the walls, some reaching all the way up the high ceilings.
Staff and visitors glanced at her. There were rumors in the town about a solution to the coming invasion being delivered today. No one knew the full story except those directly involved. Saranna, Enoch, the guards, and the Queen.
No one understood a criminal seemed to be treated with such kindness, but Enoch and the Queen deflected questions, she was told, when they arose.
As they turned the corner, they began up the stairs to an open roofed courtyard the queen normally used for gatherings. Today, when they walked through the arches out onto the marble floors, the normally ornate decorations were gone.
Enoch stood in the middle at a table, the sun beating down on him as she was lead to him. He was taller than she recalled, but she hadn't seen him since the day she arrived at the castle. The lines around his eyes and mouth were deeper. His black hair silvering at the temples and dark circles under his eyes. He was tired and stretched thin. The smile he gave her as he approached was kind and sincere making his eyes softer.
"Saranna, I know this isn't easy, the entire country will benefit from your sacrifice."
"I'm aware. Your letters have explained it over and over, Wizard Enoch. I would just like to get it over with."
"I understand. Awaiting death cannot be easy, even when you're willing."
"No, it is not. Can we please begin?"
Enoch stepped around the table, holding his hand out for hers. When she took it, he helped her up a step and cupped her head as she laid back on the stone. Once she was settled, he hooked the chain she wore to the table, keeping the chains short.
"I don't know how your body will react and I want you in as little pain as possible."
"I won't forget your kindness when I meet the Gods, Enoch."
"I hope I live up to your expectations with your gift." He gave her a bow, moving around the table.
The sun was just hitting noon. The time in the garden had been longer than she thought. Between the large breakfast and daydreaming, her last day of life had passed before she knew it. Enoch began to cast his spell and she closed her eyes, not wanting to see what came next.
His words were one she didn't recognize, a specific language of Wizards that no one else knew. The tingle of magic in the air was familiar as his shadow passed over her. He drew symbols on her forehead, hands, and feet. The scent was familiar, it was herbs to keep her soul from fleeing her body until he was ready. Some witches used it when they were having uncontrolled astral travels.
Was he borrowing from witches or was this something the two paths shared? There were question she'd never know the answers too now. She took a deep breath, forcing herself to relax.
Something pressed on her chest and she opened her eyes seeing a glass orb between her breasts. Confused, she closed her eyes again. Was that to hold her magic or something else?
Enoch spoke again and the orb began to heat, painfully so. She squirmed, gasping as the orb began to burn into her chest.
"Shhh, I need you to stay still as the sun does its work."
She tried to still herself but the pain grew as the orb grew heavier. Tears began to pour down her cheeks as the orb pressed harder.
Saranna opened her eyes looking down her body. The orb wasn't simply pressing harder, it was burying itself inside her chest. It was filled and glowing with sunlight The pain was the bones shifting and allowing it to enter her body, paired with the searing burning sensation. Breathing began to become a struggle, her eyes cutting to him.
"I'm sorry I can't make it painless, Saranna. I'm sorry more than you can know."
A scream finally tore from her as her chest closed around the orb, the sunlight began to expand inside her body, burning her from the inside out.

More Doodles of Enoch, the Lich's Son.
-Enoch was forcibly lobotomized by order of the King because he was 'too boistrous' and 'a disturbance'. It was done without Enoch or his Father's Consent as a way to 'improve' Enoch and 'make him a better wizard if he wasn't connected to such impulsive emotions'
-Enoch is the Son of a Court Wizard who became a Lich to take care of him-as his Father no longer trusted anyone else in the court to take care of his now lobotomized son. Enoch's Father is still forced to work for the Kingdom because of his need to have facilities to care for Enoch and preform research to help Enoch and others who have suffered as Enoch.
-Lobotomy has left Enoch immensely hollow and empty-Lobotomies affect people in different ways, in Enoch's case, he is essentially a walking zombie that maybe emotes 3 times a day and often has trouble walking correctly some days. He spends most of his day sleeping. His father made his robes specially for the purpose that if Enoch chooses to go to sleep anywhere at anytime-he will have something suitably soft and warm to lay on.
-He does show some signs of interest in things, which often gives his father hope that he could somehow repair his son's damaged frontal cortex in some way. Primarily-he spends his days making unusual and strange skeleton monsters out of small animal bones.
-He was apparently rather popular in court before his 'corrective surgery'. Now everyone looks at him and his father with pity or disgust.
-Enoch has some kinda fucked up teeth and if the science was there-he'd have braces.

Hello Crowley!! I was wondering, is any of the "non cannon" religious texts actually real? I think that would be quite funny. Also i know you don't read much, so whats your faveroite movie? Mine is Wizard of Oz.
It’s hard really to pick a favourite when you’re functionally immortal. Right now I’m leaning towards the Princess Bride (I was reminded of it recently).
As for the non cannon texts…well. Hard to say. We don’t get insight into everything. Heaven has departments and there’s rarely overlap. Why? Ineffable, I suppose.
#funny eyes people! Aziraphale’s books are old as hell#well not THAT old#but the text is VERY SMALL#[read Enoch and wizard of oz]#[trying my hardest]

tell us about your medieval au‼️ (if you wanna :3)
Hehehehehe so
In case anyone didn’t know, this is a direct result of me inputting these characters into The Sims Medieval, a game from 2011 (nice) that is WAY too chaotic for what it is. For those who haven’t played it, you can only have ten playable sims per file (sorry Olive and Claire) and all of them have different jobs and they go on quests together sometimes. They also cannot all be added at the same time, so I decided basically when I started this that what happened was that everyone got Umbrella Academy season 2’ed and have all just kind of been plopped in at a different time and left to fend for themselves. They all already know each other, they have been stolen directly from their books. So here is a list of everyone’s jobs, other sims I have added or plan to add as NPCs, and some shenanigans that have actually happened in this game.
Miss Peregrine - Monarch. All hail Lady Alma the Great. She is the queen and is the best queen in the kingdom of Peculiardom and also no one else is allowed to be in charge ever.
Jacob - Jacoban Priest. Yes that is what the religion is actually called, and yes that is why he had to be that. He fucking hates it. He hated being famous, imagine having the same name as the figurehead of an entire religion in a time period where people are more likely to at the VERY least call you a reincarnation and put you in charge of a church than call it coincidence. Because the Jacoban faith is the scary, “you will go to hell” of the two, I’ve decided it’s only considered “intense” because what Jacob actually does instead of preaching is trauma dump about Caul, and he was taken from his story early enough to not be able to do that without physically shaking.
Emma - Wizard. Only one of them was allowed to have their powers still and I decided Emma might die without hers.
Millard - Physicist. Because he’s the smart one.
Bronwyn - Peteran Priest. If the other church is going to be known for being “the nice one” of the two, Bronwyn’s being put in charge. Jacob and Bronwyn are the only two members of opposite religions to not despise each other and everyone else is incredibly confused.
Enoch - Spy. It was that or wizard. And Emma already took that one. So now he’s pretending to be really badass when in reality he’s in a private room in the castle smacking a training dummy with the flat part of his sword he is horrendous at using.
Horace - Blacksmith. The closest I could get to anything fashion related. He also hates it, but mostly because he’s a scrawny-ass twink (me too buddy it’s okay) and being a blacksmith takes muscle he does not have and also it’s messy and also Enoch gets to live at the castle and he doesn’t.
Olive (to be added) - Princess. I spent a full hour learning how to mod this incredibly breakable game because I learned I wasn’t going to be able to play as Olive and for some reason I guess people in medieval times just. Didn’t adopt children. So Olive gets to go with Miss Peregrine, because she deserves it.
Claire (to be added) - Princess. Same deal as Olive. The best princesses in all of Peculiardom. (I haven’t actually tested if the game even with the mods will let me give them both to Perekoo, so if not Olive can be the Princess and I’ll give Claire to Emwyn so she can be a Lil’ Prioress.)
Hugh - Bard. Just because I thought it fit. It was very unfortunate that they made him live in the tavern before I had Fiona though.
Fiona - Merchant. I wanted her to sell flowers.
Noor (to be added) - Knight. Being the only peculiar actually willing to be in the war, I thought it fit her pretty well.
Miss Cuckoo - Royal Advisor. Because the game’s tutorial immediately asked me if Miss Peregrine was a lesbian, and I knew what had to be done.
Julius (to be added) - Merchant. (The NPC kind.) Purely because @carmine-golde said I should add him so Enoch can have someone to absolutely despise.
Lilly - Nurse. Because I don’t think I can do Fughllard (sigh) and I’ve always really liked Lilly. So she can work with Millard.
Ricky (to be added) - Merchant. (Also the NPC kind.) Because there’s already a Merchant Ricky the game generated on its own, and I need to find him again and customize him so we can have Ricky back.
Now, a list of things that have actually happened in this save file, and may or may not be drawn at some point:
That time Enoch and Emma killed a man while Horace was maybe thirty feet away, an event I can only imagine sounded like “HEY BABE WATCH THIS” CRUNCH
Millard walking into Bronwyn’s sermon to say hi to her and Emma, then leaving the millisecond he realized it was church
Jacob’s sermons being entirely composed of treating the congregation like a therapy group (Hugh and Enoch show up sometimes for moral support)
Emma needing to heal the big magical deadly pit beast (sound familiar?) and Jacob’s quest line literally being titled “And Im involved in this… how?”
Enoch doing half a spy mission hungover, which was entirely Horace’s fault
That time Millard was flirted with by five separate women and still didn’t get the hint
Enoch being put in the stocks twice for failing to pickpocket somebody unnoticed, the second time after drinking an invisibility potion that was still active
That time Miss Peregrine said in the game itself, after receiving a bird as a gift, “When I was a kid I wanted to be a bird when I grew up. This is the next best thing!” (Miss P I’m so sorry)
Emma and Bronwyn kissing completely unprompted
Enoch and Horace spending multiple hours kissing completely unprompted when they had actual things they needed to be doing and also were very much in public
Hugh playing the lute while people were being shoved into the death pit
Enoch being very bad at using a sword. At this point I’m convinced he doesn’t even use the sharp bit of the blade I think he just beats the shit out of people with the flat edge like a baseball bat
Emma walking up to Miss Cuckoo and completely unapologetically apologizing for fireballing a guy in the face (he was fine)
Fiona walking up to Enoch at the war strategy table (where he literally ALWAYS is) and him immediately telling her about the people he tortures information out of for his job
#there’s more#there’s so much more#but i didn’t want it to be TOO long#this game is so chaotic i’m so here for it#mphfpc#the sims medieval

The Angel behind the Curtain
The Metatron. A character we don’t know a lot about in the show but has become public enemy number 1 - funny isn’t it.
I’ve been putting off doing this for a while because I wanted to dedicate proper time and research into this character - who he is, what he is doing, and how he is being used. That’s what I’ve been doing for the past week or so and boy is it long. So consider this an introduction post to a series - the main parts are still under construction and review.
But here is a shorter part that didn’t really fit anywhere cleanly and was kinda just a side tangent my brain went on - so now it’s its own part. I know some of it has been discussed before but have some new additions with a sneak peak into what is to come
and for that we are going back into the Title sequence - yes I know I talk about it way too much.
So Mr. Floating Head
Obviously this has been linked to the floating head of The Wizard of Oz before
But I want to dive in a little further now that we have more instances of this in season two
Now I’ll admit it’s been a while since I have revisited the story so there might be more parallels I missed but for now I just want to focus on the wizard - with some light parallels
We get the Metatron as a floating head up in heaven during the trial -which would have been before/during episode one - where he task the archangels with finding Gabriel - and he almost seems amused about it.
When Dorothy and the others first meet the Great Oz he will only grant their wishes upon the defeat of The Wicked Witch of the West. Once they return back after succeeding they demand the Great Oz to fulfill his promises but Toto knocks down the curtain to reveal that the Great Oz is just some man. He then uses “humbug” to grant their wishes - kinda. Dorothy though is meant to join him on a hot air balloon so they can both go home - which she misses because she was chasing Toto. But enough of that
After Gabriel is found - then fucks off - the Metatron arrives in the bookshop with most not recognizing him until he prompts Crowley to “reveal” him. He then sends the archangels away with a “wait and see” about if they had done anything wrong - kinda granting their wish with them not getting in trouble. He then goes on to offer the Supreme Archangel position to Aziraphale and says to join him in going up to Heaven.
The Metatron is admittedly a better wizard than Oz - he for the most part removes his own curtain and makes sure Aziraphale is coming with him.
But you said we were going into the title sequence and you have just rambled about some old story parallels? Okok I’m going
I've talked before (here) about how those rickety walkways represent Heaven's plans/timeline for their version of Armageddon- but for this we are going to focus on the one in the theatre
Curtains are drawn - screen is burned - the way to the Second Coming revealed
I'm comparing this moment to the Metatron finally appearing in a corporation in front of the angels and revealing his name - the curtain pulled back.
At the last second the film is burned - right before they enter the lift the Metatron finally drops the act a little and reveals the name, The Second Coming.
And now on to the sneak peak for one of the things I will be doing a deep dive into - The Book of Enoch
I know Neil has said the Metatron has always been an angel but can’t throw the whole book away when he himself pulls from it
When we go through the burnt screen we see these mountains of junk and it is revealed they are walking up one that has a throne room on top.
In Enoch 1 he is given an angel guided tour of the cosmos and sees seven glorious mountains - three to the east, three to the south, one that was taller than the rest and like the seat of a throne with trees encircling it, one of which is identified as the Tree of Life - which is said to be given back to humans after judgement
I’m sensing some parallels but for now that is it - tune in later for some more Enoch and diving into the occult
Part 2 is up!!
#did i just compare Crowley and Toto? yes yes I did#disaster puppy at it’s finest#good omens#good omens 2#good omens meta#good omens analysis#good omens theory#good omens metatron#the metatron#aziraphale#crowley

Mortimer Craig Enoch from the AU @faerunsbest and I are tinkering with. Main premise is that Sybyll gets him and Lucille out of the cult early and he remains a wizard, but slowly descends to villainy to protect his loved ones. By slowly, he is kinda speedrunning this shit.
Anyhoot, Mortimer’s 29 here, just got married, murdered his husband’s (Sybyll’s) abusive parents, murdered his own abusive father, and is now dealing with the fact he’s head of this traumatized-as-fuck family because his husband has that lovely little thing called ✨amnesia✨. But hey, he and Lennox aren’t fighting currently so that’s something.
He is stressed, not coping, and pissed but at least he’s pretty.

Witch Ring Excerpt
It was all a blur. The box lid closed and her world went dark. The next she was being lifted out and set on a stand, Enoch laying out components in front of her. This wasn't right. She wasn't supposed to still be here. She was to die and pass her magic to him. He never said she'd be here, aware, trapped, and unable to communicate.
"You lied to me!"
"No, I didn't. I spared you the agony of the truth."
Saranna gasped. "You can hear me?"
"Of course, I can, Saranna. We're connected now in a way no magic users have been in thousands of years. This isn't your final form though. You've got one more move to make. One that may be less… disturbing for you."
As he worked he never looked up at the orb. She could see the orb in the mirror behind him. She was nothing more than a purple haze rolling and boiling. In some ways, she still felt as if she had a form, a body, but it was just a phantom sensation.
"Anything is less disturbing than this. Does the queen know the truth? That you twisted the truth to me?"
"No, she doesn't. I won't burden her with that." He held up a ring with intricate lines carved around it. "This is your final destination."
"A ring? That is supposed to be less disturbing to me?"
"Perhaps less disorienting. It's not a clear orb."
"So I won't be able to see anything. I'll be conscious and locked in limbo with only your thoughts for company. Yes, that is much more comforting Enoch."
Was she bitter? Yes. He had lied, no matter how he tried to paint it. He wasn't the saint that he made himself out to be. Now she'd be even more trapped. In the orb she could hear the objects he moved, and his footsteps. Would she in the ring?
"Your attitude won't improve your situation, dear. It is what it is. Accept it."
"I have no choice to accept it. Doesn't mean I have to be happy about it. The least you could do is render me unconscious."
"I can't. You have to be awake and consciously feed me your magic or this is all for naught."
Saranna screamed with frustration, satisfied when he winched. The whole basis of the spell had been that he could use and channel it. She would be dead. She wasn't involved. Now she had an active role. What else hadn't he told her?
"What other secrets have you kept to try to 'protect' me, Enoch?"
"None. I swear." He laid the ring on top of the orb. "Here is a truth for you. I don't know after nearing two months in that orb, how this will feel or if it will hurt."
"Two months? What? No, you just closed the lid and reopened it a few minutes later."
"Allow me to reassure you." He moved the ring, lifting the orb and walking to the window.
The spring trees were now green. All buds gone, the flowers had changed to summer buds, and tree frogs filled the air.
"But I swear it was moments."
"It seems when you're not exposed to light, your consciousness sleeps. That should help you pass the time."
"Will you not be wearing the ring?"
"I will, but not always on my hand." He sat her back down, putting the ring back and began the move.
Saranna screamed inside his mind as it felt like her essence was pressed through what felt like a vice. "Stop! I can't fit! It hurts!"
Enoch didn't answer continuing to chant the spell. Once all the smoke was gone from the orb, he stopped sliding the ring on his finger. He gasped as she whimpered. The feeling of his magic was painful for her, like being stuck by lightning over and over.
"Take me off. Please, take me off."
"Share your magic, witch."
"I don’t know how."
"Just let your magic lead you." He twisted the ring, making her shiver.
She let her magic go, letting it go where it would despite decades of learning to hold it tight. She felt it begin to ooze into his skin and he laughed.
"Yes, I feel it. This is it."
As the magic eased inside his body, Saranna began to feel hollow. He picked up a book that was so old, the pages cracked as they moved. He began to chant in a tongue she didn't know, but seemed to recognize in some fashion.
He turned and pointed his hand at a target set up at the end of the room. The combine magic arched from his hand, twisting it, changing it.
"It's true! Saranna, do you know what you've given me?"
"I can't see through the ring so well… tell me." Her voice sounded distant, tired.
"Change magic. A dead magic no one has seen in thousands of years."
"That's impossible. It's not real."
"It is real." He held his hand up. The hay target was gone, in its place stood a golden table. "Next, living subjects."

What I think the scarlet hollow cast's classes would be if they were suddenly dnd-ifed
Tabitha- a warlock, all scarlets would be warlocks (besides mc who's whatever class the player wants to be) and I'm gonna say their patron is a fiend cause right now it really feels like Enoch made a deal with a devil.
Stella- beast master ranger, her beast companion is Gretchen
Kaneeka- wild magic sorcerer. I choose wild magic because I imagine when kaneeka eventually gets her magical girl awakening, it's gonna be wild and uncontrollable.
Reese- okay hear me out- path of the beast barbarian. The beast form only comes out during an rage for barbarians and I feel like the parraels reese's "strong emotions = monster form" thing. My friend reccomened an lycan bloodhunter too
Avery- druid duh, also the subclass would be circle of the lands forest.
Oscar- wizard due to the whole "you gotta study to get your magic" stuff, a bard could also work since bards can get their power from littature and not just singing. If we're going with wizard then school of abjuration, if we're going with bard then college of lore.
Sybil- druid, circle of spores cause of her fungus tea. Could also be circle of stars
Dr. Kelly- okay this one I had a hard time with since cleric dosent fit, she isn't religious but I don't think sorcerer would fit either. So I'm just gonna say she's a warlock with reese's dad being the patron.
Wayne- warlock of the either fiend or undead variety
Pastor daniel- he's the cleric life domain lol
Bonus, some of my mc's classes
Mckenna- druid, circle of the moon
Mina- lycan bloodhunter
Leanne- Arcane trickster rogue
Brigitta- college of lore bard

Over The Garden wall = People aren’t as bad as you think
Earlier today I stumbled upon a Youtube video analyzing the animated mini-series Over the Garden Wall. For those unfamiliar with it, Ove the Garden Wall is an animated TV mini-series from 2014 that told the story of two boys, Greg and Wirt, lost in a mysterious forest called “The Unknown.” The story that plays out is very Wizard of Oz-esque and nearly all the visuals are based on vintage, turn of the century, New England postcards- particularly postcards from the late nineteenth century to 1930s for Halloween, Thanksgiving, and even Christmas, though mostly depicting autumn. The characters and visuals from these vintage postcards adds to the surrealness of the setting. Now this particular Youtuber happened to be a very Christian individual who seemed pretty certain that the black cat (Enoch) that we first see in the Pottsfield story was actually God. And though I understood why this Youtuber believed this I did not agree with this particular stance.
Yes, the people of Pottsfield are dead and happily enjoying their afterlife much like the dead in Tim Burton’s Corpse Bride but I do not think Enoch is meant to be God. Again, I understand how he came to that conclusion but not everyone is C. S. Lewis.
One thing the Youtuber pointed out that I DO agree with, however, is the stance that Over the Garden Wall teaches us that people aren’t as bad as we’ve been made to think, that things aren’t always what they seem and aren’t always as dark or as sinister as they seem and I was a little surprised at myself that I hadn’t quite realized this was a recurring theme throughout the mini-series. But as soon as he said it I knew it was true. I hadn’t even consciously made this realization before but yes, this is one of the many reasons I love that mini-series. It’s so anti-cynical and wholesome.
Pretty much everyone and everything that Greg and Wirt encounter and Wirt thinks is a threat turns out to be benign, or out-right good, kind, and helpful. The only characters that actually turn out to be evil and dangerous are Adelaide of The Pasture and The Beast.
First Greg and Wirt come across the suspicious woodsman and he’s just a sad old man being manipulated by The Beast. Even the creature that attacks them is just a semi-possessed dog (Beatrice’s dog). And the dog is harmless and no longer possessed by the end of the tale.
When the boys come to Pottsfield, first Wirt thinks the towns people are going to severely punish them for what they did. Instead they get a very minor punishment. Also when Wirt thinks Greg and Beatrice have abandoned him, they were still there helping him get free. And in the end the residents of Pottsfield were not a threat at all (despite the reveal that they were all skeletons wearing Pumpkin and straw bodies). Even at the tail end of the Pottsfield adventure, when the boys are invited to stay there’s no pressure or threat to it. The Pottsfield residents are genuinely decent (though dead) people.
Soon the boys find the old-fashioned schoolhouse with anthropometric animal students playing out a Shirley Temple-esque movie scenario. It, at first, looks like the school teacher’s father is a classic style bad guy of the story. Also the teacher’s lover has run off on her and abandoned her. By the end of this story you find out her lover was just stuck in a gorilla costume that he had been wearing to earn money to marry her and her father had actually been afraid they’d have to close down the school. The school is saved by a charity concert and the teacher and her lover live happily ever after.
In the next chapter of Over the Garden Wall, the boys get to The Dark Lantern Inn. And at first it looks like the people in the inn might be a threat. Nope. The innkeeper is a Betty Boop-esque character and all her patrons seem to be self-aware storybook characters who expect everyone to be playing a particular (though easily explained) character role. And they are eager to help you find your role in your story.
Then the boys meet the wealthy (and very eccentric) Quincy Endicott (who may or may not be a ghost as you see his tombstone later in the “Real world”). Endicott thinks his mansion is haunted. Fred the Horse (yes, a talking horse) is very suspicious and briefly gets Wirt to believe that Endicott might be a murderer who killed the lady of the house and will murder them. No, he’s just a lonely old man who ends up falling in love with his business competitor (they both run tea companies and their mansions are accidentally connected).
Then we come to Adelaide of The Pasture who actually is evil. When we, the viewers, meet Adelaide, it appears to us that she’s deceiving poor Beatrice. Not only does she want the boys as her slaves but also we get the chilling thought (as most modern viewers may) that she’s lying about the magical scissors that would turn Beatrice and her family human again (they were cursed to be bluebirds). The easy assumption is that Adelaide was cruelly lying and that cutting off Beatrice’s wings (and her family’s wings) won’t turn them human. It will just leave them mutilated birds who cannot fly. But even the sinister Adelaide is not as bad as we are lead to think. Yes, she’s a villain. Yes, she wants the boys as her slaves. But even her darkness is limited.
After Adelaide is defeated Wirt takes the magical scissors and later gives them to Beatrice. He only withheld them from her for so long because he was angry at her near betrayal. And if we trust the epilogue in the last episode of Over the Garden wall, the scissors actually worked and Beatrice and her family are human again.
Now we meet Lorna and Auntie Whispers. At first it looks like the very weird looking Auntie Whispers is a Baba Yaga-style witch who has been eating people and using Lorna for slave labor. She even reveals that the evil Adelaide is her sister. The fact that Aunt Whispers is voiced by Tim Curry, who usually plays villains, also aids in the illusion. Again we are misdirected. Auntie Whispers is just trying to reign in the demon that is inside Lorna. She has been controlling it with the aid of a magical Bell. At first she looks like a cannibalistic witch or even crazed religious fanatic who has convinced Lorna that she’s evil, or somehow both. No, she was just trying to protect Lorna from herself and others and to keep Lorna from killing other people. She just didn’t consider that perhaps the magical bell to compel the demon might also be be used to banish the demon but Wirt figured it out.
It’s also revealed that Auntie Whispers is really just lonely and wanted Lorna to stay as her live-in companion and ultimately that’s the quiet life Lorna chooses.
When the Woodsman finally finds out where the Adlewood trees really come from he turns against The Beast to help our protagonists.
Even Jason Funderberker, who Wirt kept building up as an attractive jock that he was jealous of, and insecure against as a rival, was revealed to be nothing more than an awkward nerd and not at all the way Wirt described or saw him.
Over the Garden Wall pretty much shows you that Greg’s innocent and trusting mindset is the better view to have. It’s the opposite of most stories that tell you to be suspicious and to embrace cynicism. And pretty much every time Wirt assumed the worst about someone (except in regard to Adelaide and The Beast) he was wrong.
Over the Garden Wall teaches you that often people are not as bad as you think. Things aren’t always as they seem. And though there are terrible people out there like Adelaide and The Beast, usually people aren’t as bad as you think they are.
I think this precious lesson has been lost for a long time. People aren’t as bad as you think once you really get to know them. No wonder I think of Over the Garden wall as comforting and chicken soup for the soul.

Hello Lord,
What kinds of books do you like to read? My favourites are mystery novels!
Kind regards, Muriel 37th order scrivener
Hello, Muriel. I like all sorts of books; fiction, nonfiction, science fiction, theology. I know you didn't ask for any recommendations, but if you're looking for another book to read, how about the Wizard of Oz or the Book of Enoch? I'm sure at least one of them could be found in Aziraphale's bookshop.
