honestly my favorite bishop depends on what day it is, but if I couldn't say shamura is my overall big fave, 10000% it would be heket. I feel like she'd overwork herself taking care of the other siblings, who've come to just expect her to do the brunt of the work and stopped saying "thank you" forever ago. Meanwhile she has the least amount of time for her own cult, and has to catch up a LOT to make sure followers don't dissent left and right. So she kinda forgets someone could take a moment to appreciate her without expecting something in return.

Also I have NO idea how leshy's packages would end up in anura instead of darkwood but I feel like he'd manage to make it happen...

This comic was inspired by a reddit comment I will never seen again complaining about how it's OK for the spouses to have lovers but not The Lamb, Chapel Roan's song "Causal", and my desire to draw a longer, more serious comic.

The idea that Narinder has a hard time adjusting not just to his new freedom, but to mortal life isn't at all a new one, but it is one I've mulled on it a few times, particularly his relationships with other followers.

He did cage them and attempt to kill their beloved leader in front of their eyes. That is something kind of hard to bounce back from, ya know?

The Witnesses, however, also attempted to kill The Lamb, so I think they'd all understand a little bit how he feels, especially knowing what it is like to be this all powerful, all seeing being that was laid low and knocked out of your power by a cotton swab.

Because Bathin is my favorite husbando and is Narinder's lover in my main save, he gets to be the Witness in this comic who reached out to Narinder first.

It probably went like this: "Hey, you probably don't remember me, but your sister kicked me out of Anura a few thousand years ago? I just want to tell you that I understand. If I had to imprison 20 mortals to get my eyes and power back, I'd do it too!"

So our boy Nari, being incredibly touch starved and in need of validation after his 1000 year grounding in The Gateway, jumped into a friendship then relationship.

It just so happened he and Bathin were very much on the different pages about the romantic aspect of the relationship, in part based on how each of them views The Lamb.

Bathin, being the perfect, obedient, cult leader husband they are, views The Lamb as their infallible god who chose them of all others to be their spouse, while Narinder views The Lamb more as an equal, though he isn't happy about it, since he knows crown-bearing gods are just as flawed and messy as mortals.

So in the end Bathin's agape love for The Lamb out weights his eros and phillia love for Narinder. The Lamb's pedestal will always be higher than any lovers Bathin has or will ever have.

When Narinder finally understands that fact, he feels insulted and hurt, so he lashes out.

It's both neither of their faults and also both of their faults.

And now that I think about, their poor future kid is gonna grow up the child of a break up... Good thing The Lamb doing most of the rearing, I guess?

Heket how do you feel about Agares and Bathin's friendship

I finally have free time again, yay! Busting out with some fan art from Cult of the Lamb. Here is Witness Bathin.

Something is wrong.

Hamal knows it instantly, a sudden twinge in their belly. They freeze, quill in hand. Since Narinder is going to be so busy the next few weeks, they’ve decided to take the opportunity to work on their wedding vows. Yet it’s hard to focus with the uncomfortable heat suddenly radiating throughout their midsection. Someone in the cult has fallen violently ill. Hamal focuses, blocking out the cause of impending death, instead fixing their mind on the who. Poor old Feo perhaps, or that egg that’s supposed to hatch any day now—

It’s Kiki.

Kiki is ill and dying. Hamal sits there in stunned silence, racking their mind for a cause. With a frown, they rise from their desk and head toward the Healer’s Hut. Sudden illness is always a cause for concern. It can mean there’s a hygiene issue, or the beginnings of an outbreak. Yet somehow they doubt it.

A dark mood seizes them. Anger simmers beneath the surface. Why, they aren’t certain. But they’re going to figure it out.

on a light hearted note, some dialogue that got cut from this chapter for time/better flow:

Astaroth: How do you know it was poisoned with lilies?

Narinder: I sniffed it and my nose burned.

Astaroth: …and how are you feeling now?

Narinder: I have a headache but—

Astaroth: You’re staying here.

Narinder: Oh come ON.

Astaroth: You inhaled the remnants of a poison that is deadly to your species and now your head hurts. You’ve done a lot of anatomy work. Tell me— what does the nasal passage connect with directly?

Narinder, sighing: The brain.

Astaroth: Exactly. So sit.

But yeah I remade Bathin and Agares with the same idea in mind, but a lil more polished.

The witnesses in my AU would have their own clothing just like the bishops, but unlike the bishops where the cults symbol is somewhere on or underneath a layer, its just never seen. And of course they still take after the bishop they were for, as well as being their aids. For this Agares main job was to be a best friend or a jester to Leshy, like Spinel was to Pink Diamond in steven universe. Meanwhile Bathin was someone Heket would be able to talk to, no matter how harsh she was with her words or not.

Me when I did what I do best and made a character line up of a bunch of CotL characters (specifically all the bosses in their follower forms).

I also made a bunch of self indulgent redesigns while I was at it. Idk how many of these will stick, I came up with most of these on the spot as I hadn’t drawn a lot of these guys before now. They might change a bit as I draw them more, who knows.

Sorry this took a bit guys! It's a bit hard to illustrate these pages and keep Bow (Lamb) on model, especially if you look at them closely agh, so I apologize for my inconsistency!!

My designs for Bow will constantly change depending on how I wanna characterize her and that will reflect on how I'll be drawing her, also note that I'm making this comic in the midst of college so there's gonna be long gaps in between. Accounting for art block too, it's hard but I really love this AU and wanna make more art for it cause I have a bunch of ideas!!

ALL YOU HAD TO DO WAS LAY IN THE DAMN BED, HEKET!! At least she did a sweet portal backflip to disobey orders in style. Tbf I would also have trouble laying in bed for an extended amount of time if my brain was like "wow you're resting? You're literally just like your sibling who's been dying in bed for 200 years" the second my head hits the pillow

I didn't get to do much with witness bathin in this comic but in my head, she's a very well meaning and sweet person who will accidentally offend you on a psychological level because she wants to be helpful even in situations beyond her understanding. I hope to do more with the witnesses when I'm feeling better because I have an idea of what 3/4 of them are like, but none of them have gotten a chance to do their thing just yet

The other parts are gonna take quite a while to finish, like I said this full comic won't get done before the year wraps up so I'm hoping to at least get 4 parts done. I really need to stop doing comics with full color and backgrounds tbh I can't keep up....

also I have this poorly drawn but relevant comic I drew months ago but never posted, cannot remember the context but I'll have you know it was drawn while "1 hour of silence occasionally interrupted by the opening riff to 'bad to the bone' " was playing.....

I'm bored, so let's make a theory about CotL

Y'all I guess no one questioned this before but uhh

WHY ARE ALL THE WITNESSES PURPLE???

They could've been ANY color. Why purple?

Purple = Shamura

Are they called witnesses because they've been there as firsts? The oldest followers? We don't know how old is Shamura or how many years older they are compared to their siblings. So, those witnesses probably belonged to Shamura and the FIRST cult? Their designs *slightly* resembles the bishops they are supposed to belong. I mean, have you seen Witness Bathin? What part of that purple, mustache haired blob on a stick looks like a frog to you?

And there's something else I also noticed about Witness Allocer. They are the only witness with a different look pattern.

The other witnesses (Agares, Bathin, Astaroth) have this soft curved lineart, blue dripping mark on their body, black ichor/blood on their body dripping down, a wood on their body (as horns for Agares and Astaroth, shish kebab style for Bathin)

While Allocer also have black ichor/blood, it's coming from their mouth. Not directly on their body. Their lineart is more sharper, not a blue drip mark but a blue symbol on their head, they are are the only witness with full limbs during battle (Bathin doesn't count they only have legs) and they have green eggs.

I don't know if I should add eye placement. Since Astaroth has seven eyes but still shares the three eye placement with Agares and Bathin while Allocer doesn't.

I'd like the assume that Allocer was the first follower of the old faith. The first one to believe in gods. The first disciple of Shamura. Maybe even first cult leader. Shamura's vessel on earth for the very cult made for them...
