CHANGELOG 2:
Added a few slight tweaks to Addison anatomy. It’s very minuscule, good luck spotting the changes
ADDISON HEADCANON DUMP 💥💥💥
Making this post so I can have most all my Addison HCs in one place, since it gets kinda hard to keep track of all of them sometimes. Also helps me know how much I’ve actually discussed on tumblr and what not.
This post should hopefully be kept up to date, and I’ll prolly update it as needed. Will prolly be one of the linked posts in my intro, just so it stays available.
Also this is about to be REALLY long. I was planning on splitting the posts up but uhhhh I couldn’t decide how I wanted to do that so erm. Yeah no I’m not doing that
Anyways, without further ado. The infodump
Under the cut tho cuz this'll be a nightmare to scroll past
Where Do Addisons Come From?
Short answer: literally anywhere
Long answer: Due to the nature of their light world counterpart, Addisons are a very common type of darkner to encounter. They can be found in almost any dark world, and can pretty easily thrive in any of those worlds as well. If advertising has a place there, so do Addisons.
That’s not to say they’ll always be the same type of Addison, however. Addisons can be very diverse, and there exists many “subspecies” so to speak. Advertisements come in many forms after all, such as radio and newspaper. So of course Addisons would reflect this, also existing in many forms.
In recent years, however, certain types of Addisons have become more common to encounter than some others—I’m gonna get to the point, it’s cyber Addisons. Cyber Addisons are by far the most common type of Addison to encounter today, and for good reason too. Due to their purely digital make up, as well as not usually being any sort of extension of a physical object in the light world, it is very easy for them to travel from dark world to dark world.
Now they aren’t the first Addisons to have this ease of travel (radio Addisons, for example, can achieve a similar feat), and that’s not the only trick they have up their sleeves. There’s also just. A LOT of them. Digital ads are constantly being created all the time, and it’s probably the most popular form of advertisement today. Cyber Addisons spawn in such rapid numbers that they’ve quickly surpassed the populations of other Addison types.
With all of this, cyber Addisons tend to be very well travelled, and rarely stick to the place they’ve spawned if they can help it. That’s not to say they never settle, however. If they find good business in a particular place, they’ll often stay there, which is the case for the main group of Addisons we see in Cyber City.
Addison Biology
As stated before, Addisons are purely digital creatures. As such, their forms are very malleable, and they use this to their advantage to appeal to lightners. While these changes usually are triggered by instinct, they are not completely unconscious, and the Addison often has some form of input on them. Basically, they decide how to change based on an urge telling them to change. If that makes sense.
This development tends to slow once they reach maturity, when their code becomes more solid and less malleable.
This detail in particular is where Spamton differs from the common Addison. He is unable to naturally change his form to appeal to lightners, which leaves him at a severe disadvantage and leads to him not getting very many sales.
Addison Masks
Masks are an item every Addison spawns with and are an incredibly important part of Addison culture. They act as the friendly customer service face Addisons wear in order to attract customers.
An addison’s mask is tied directly to the Addison through whatever darkner magic, and act as an extension of their body. This connection is what allows the mask to be seen through despite blocking the Addison’s eyes, as well as allowing it to emote when it should otherwise be static.
This connection also allows the mask to change as the Addison develops, although subtly. When compared to the rest of an addison’s code, the mask is a more solid piece, and is not something the Addison themself can consciously affect the appearance of. The mask will change by itself, matching the addison’s colors and shapes. It is incredibly rare that it develops past that point.
Unnatural altering of a mask is INCREDIBLY frowned upon in Addison culture, as doing so comes off as a deceitful tactic to lure in customers—like false advertising.
So basically, natural mask alteration is okay, unnatural mask alteration is not
That begs the question, how do Addisons tell the difference? And idk man, I think they just might be able to sniff it out. They can smell unnatural changes in an addison’s code. They’re such judgey creatures I wouldn’t put it past them.
Bonus note I forgot to make a drawing for: Addisons also do not take kindly to damaged masks. Addisons are all about appearances, and if someone has a visibly damaged mask, they are automatically seen as lesser.
Addison Anatomy
*(Drawings are the basic jist of things and do not include all details)
The anatomy of a cyber Addison can be broken down into 4 main layers: The feathers, the skin, the skeleton, and the. Other. Skeleton. Idk how to classify the skeletons.
Addisons be default are mostly covered in feathers, which only their chest and stomach, hands, feet, and beaks lack. They may also possess patterns, usually on their face, which are created by unique feather placement with leaves some areas with a thinner layer, allowing the skin underneath to peak through.
Addison’s skin is akin to that of muppet felt, being slightly fuzzy. The skin is held together with stitching, which can be undone to perform maintenance on the addison’s inner workings. This most often occurs in the chest area, which is the place the mechanics are easiest to access. The only piece of skin that is not attached to the rest via stitching is the head and neck area, which just sorta sits there. Sorta like the head piece for an animatronic.
Going deeper, we have the skeleton. Or shell. Or whatever you wanna call it I don’t know what this thing should be called. It provides the main structure to the addison’s body, while also protecting the more delicate innards. The only part of the Addison that does not possess this shell is the stomach area, as it needs to be flexible so the Addison can properly carry its money stash (more on that in a second).
Finally, the mechanics within the skeleton. The things that make the Addison tick. Most of an Addison’s limbs operate via strings that run through their casing, joining from ball joint to ball joint. Most of the metal framing that exists is there to either act as anchors for the strings, or as further support for the main skeleton. The mechanics also include an addison’s main organs (to which there are not many), these being the [Heart Shaped Object], the stomach, and the money crop. The [Heart Shaped Object] acts as the main storage of an addison’s code. The stomach is. Well. A stomach. That’s where food goes to get converted into digital nutrients or whatever. And then the money crop is where Addisons store their money. Because that is something they do.
EDIT: Forgot to mention they also have a woodpecker-like tongue that wraps around the metal frame of their head. They’re freaky like that
Now, with all the broad Addison stuff out of the way..
Cyber City’s Addisons
Cyber City has hosted a large cast of Addisons, ranging from big names to lil guys. The city streets are no stranger to fierce competition, and neither are the Addisons that roam them.
Spamton, Webliam, Mark, and Mobyl are all Addisons that had chosen to take up shop in Cyber City, and often partook in friendly rivalries and competition due to the close proximity. Though some were closer than others, things would always stay relatively civil, with the gang often visiting the Cyber Grill together on the weekends.
With Spamton’s rise to stardom and subsequent fall from grace (and disappearance), tensions within the once friendly group of Addisons began to rise. Everyone had responded differently to the tragedy, and no one was seeing eye to eye anymore. The growing tensions, along with the introduction of a new, very loud presence (Bannerre), strained the once close relationship of the Addisons.
Nowadays, our main band of Addisons lives within Castle Town, and work not on their own, but all together as a part of a larger business they all formed together. They’re closer than ever, and things are only looking up! Now if only they could all forget about a missing someone..
--------
Mark E. Markette is very well respected among the resident Addisons, being an inspiring tale of an outsider making is big and becoming one of the most well known names on the street.
His relations with his fellow Addisons is something he finds very important. Best to keep your competition close, right? That’s what he says at least. Despite his business-heavy view of things, he does genuinely care about his sale buddies, and tends to be a solid shoulder they can lean on if need be.
Relationships:
Spamton: Mark had never been particularly close with the little bugged Addison, with most of their interactions being due to shared relations with Webliam. Part of him always rooted for him in a way, though, seeing a bit of himself in him—an Addison different from those around him, having to learn how to adapt in a world he doesn’t fit in. Nowadays, though, he doesn’t give much him a passing thought. Better to focus on business than dwell on the past.
Webliam: Mark always admires a hard working business man, and Webliam is no exception. He finds the fast working competition exhilarating, even if it can give him a run for his money. It’s why the anxious Addison first caught his eye and why he continues to keep him in close company. It’s also why, when Webliam lost the spark to advertise in Spamton’s absence, Mark became a little more antsy and started enjoying his own job a little less as well. He’s glad they’re back on their feet again.
Mobyl: Moby is the Addison Mark has known the longest of the group, and with that comes a certain camaraderie. He was there when they first started advertising on the city streets, and would often slip them pointers. For the sake of better competition. Of all the changes that occurred in Spamton’s absence, their bond was the one that was least shaken. Still shaken, just. Less. Neither of them were the type to really talk about it. They still aren’t.
Bannerre: Mark can appreciate her confidence, and can find a bit of humor in how fake all her big talk is. I mean, come on, it’s a little funny to see someone talk so big but make so little. But, they were a nice change of pace in a time he really needed a change of pace, and so, like many other newcomers, he tries helping them improve their business just a little. Maybe make all that talk a bit more real.
Bonus Info:
He’s vaguely based on a toucan. It’s mostly the influence for his beak shape, but was also sorta slightly the inspiration for his weird sound wave illusion cloak thing, since toucans have transparent skin. Idk there’s a connection you can make there
Can and has pulled some dumb shit like disguising himself as a customer to promote his business (akin to a company leaving reviews on their own products)
He tends to be a lot louder than other Addisons. Which is saying a lot cuz Addisons are naturally pretty loud. I have been told that toucans also happen to be load so uh. More food for that ig
He fled from the radio scene, in part, for a change of pace, but also due to the fear of becoming obscure. Part of why he chose a digital world to settle down—lots more traffic in the city
Despite his habit of helping out competitors, he is also very willing to hinder them. He can and has barged onto the other Addisons’ sites to promote sales at his shop. He will speak over them for business. Does he care about them? Yeah. But also he wants money. Such is the way of Addisons.
He probably has a transatlantic accent. Cuz radio. And also silly.
Probably the top earner of the main group, being the biggest name of them all and everything (excluding Spamton during big shot era obviously)
FUN FACT: Back when I FIRST made designs for these guys when Ch2 first came out, Mark actually used to be named Randy-O, or Randy. And was radio advertising. It all comes full circle guys
--------
Mobyl (also commonly referred to as Moby) is the most well-mannered of the Addisons, a breath of fresh air when compared to the usual loud and demanding presence of the bird-like darkners. Many theorize their cool demeanor is the result of their time at Queen’s mansion, and they would not be wrong.
Making friends has never been one of their priorities, and yet they’ve still found their way into this gaggle of advertisers. Whether it’s for the best or worst, they haven’t determined. They’re willing to see how it plays out, though.
Relationships:
Spamton: They found Spamton to be a strange little thing—an Addison with no chance, and yet he persisted. An admirable effort, honestly. Intrigue and curiosity is mainly what led Moby to have any sort of interest in Spamton. And that curiosity is what made his disappearance irk most. It's like a mystery they could never solve, and it's something that still continues to eat at them. They try their best to keep their mind off it.
Webliam: Moby had never really cared much for Webliam up until recently after working under the same business. They had always found their energy to be.. too much, in the few times they'd interacted. The yellow addison's distance after Spamton's disappearance didn't help all that much in getting to know them either. They admittedly still have yet to get to know him all that well, but they have at least become friendly with each other during their time working together.
Mark: Mark is the addison Moby has spent the most time around and has probably been one of their closest companions, even back when they were still competitors. They were always ones to hang out after business hours and were the two to start the tradition of meeting at the Cyber Grill. Their bond has always stayed a constant amongst the chaos of the past few years.
Bannerre: Admittedly, Moby found them really annoying when they first showed up. To be fair, she kind of showed up at a bad time, and Moby already had a lot on their mind. After a while, though, their presence became a nice distraction from everything and he slowly became a confidant to them. Being so detached from the situation made it easy for Moby to confide in them about it where they couldn't with others. So, surprisingly, despite everything, they've become pretty close.
Bonus Info:
Moby is largely based on owls, specifically that of barn owls. This is what inspired their beak and mask shape, as well as their analytical nature. Also their big ol eyes.
Moby is the only one out of the group to be based on a bird of prey and I can't figure out if there's anything I wanna do with that information. I'm just putting that out there.
They often visit the mansion when they can. It was their first home after all, and they still have family they like to see. This constant visitation made Moby probably the closest to Spamton during his big shot era (Though that isn't saying much, since none of them were particularly close to him during that time). They'd always visit him, trying to piece together what made him so big.
They have much better vision than the common addison. Only slightly related, they are very good at reading people, making them an incredible salesman. Some rumor a connection, saying they can see into a person's thoughts and desires and sell to them accordingly. That's of course, an exaggeration. They just developed a keen eye for detail after spending so many of their early years around swatchlings.
They have a bit of a staring problem, and come off as unsettling to a lot of people due to it.
I totally have not changed their name 3 different times, that’d be crazyyy
--------
Webliam is best described as anxious and jittery, always on the move for new job opportunities. They entered the scene alongside Spamton, and the two where the newest addisons on the street before Bannerre's eventual arrival.
They find a lot of importance in connections, and try to get on most people's good side on the off chance they could have some ticket to success for him. That doesn't often end up being the case, but friends are okay too.
Relationships:
Spamton: Spamton had always been one of Web's closest friends. They met each other early in their careers, and were determined to climb to the top together. When Spam had reached that dream and all but left Webliam behind, they had felt almost betrayed, and after a while, the two's friendship became strained. Despite all of this, Web was devastated when Spamton went missing, and had practically given up on advertising in the aftermath. He's since returned to it after moving to Castle Town, but they don't have the same spark they had before. It's not the same without him.
Mobyl: Moby had always intimidated Webliam quite a bit, with eyes that seemed to analyze his every move and a demeanor that often made him feel almost inferior. They don't know if any of that is purposeful, but even still, they preferred to keep their distance. Nowadays, they've gotten closer, and he's learned to accept those more as just the quirks of Moby. Even if they still intimidate them a tad bit.
Mark: Mark had always been something of an inspiration for Webliam and he was incredibly joyous when the bigger addison began inviting them to his grill outings. Mark sorta filled the hole Spamton had left, though not perfectly. He often visited after Webliam began isolating himself and became a shoulder they could lean on in his lowest moments. He was the one to drive them to pick advertising back up and continues to be the only thing keeping Webliam feeling like a complete outsider in the business.
Bannerre: Webliam never really interacted much with Bannerre before Castle Town, only hearing of them in passing conversation with Mark and catching glimpses of them on the street. He doesn't really know how to approach them today. Part of him is reminded of Spamton when he sees them--a showboat-y addison desperate for clicks and attention. They don't know if they can really trust being around an addison like that again.
Bonus Info:
Webliam's beak shape is based on that of avocets, however when I was first designing the character way back with Chapter 2 first came out, I based them off blue jays. Do with that information what you will idk.
Webliam still possesses a lot of knowledge on malware, and had often tried helping with Spamton's bug. This often meant adding more bugs to Spamton's code, but the smaller addison never really minded. Webliam's probably also the reason Spamton's able to do things like make pipis. He lended him a forkbomb script or something.
I imagine him sounding like Johnny from Ted. This is totally not because of that one dumb video I made, what do you mean.
They might have a few bugs of their own, being from malware street or whatever. They've definitely come in contact with some nasty stuff
If they were to see Spamton in his current state, part of him would worry all his glitches are the result of them meddling with his code (That is not the case, most of those have nothing to do with him)
--------
Bannerre is the newest addison on the street and totally knows what they're doing, what do you mean, they're totally having the same amount of success they had back in their home town. She's totally not regretting ever venturing out of her comfort zone and getting lost. Never the less, she's gonna fake it 'til she makes it. Which is a tactic that is totally working.
It's only natural he's garnered the attention of people. I mean, who doesn't want to befriend the most popular addison on the block? He sure would if that addison wasn't himself. And if he ends up finding comfort in the friends around him, then well, that's no one's business but hers.
Relationships:
Spamton: Bannerre never actually met the little salesman, and most all they've heard about him comes from the tales Moby's told them. In their humble opinion, Spamton didn't deserve the fame, especially if it got him nothing but a missing person's case and a sour taste in everyone's mouth.
Webliam: They had never really properly met until moving to Castle Town, and he quickly became another note in Bannerre's mental "Why Spamton Sucks" book. She has a hard time connecting and understanding Webliam, so she often just. Doesn't. No matter how curious he finds the other.
Mobyl: Moby had quickly become Bannerre's closest companion in Cyber City, being the first darkner there they properly connected with. Moby helped her a lot when it came to becoming familiar with the city, being a native. They got to learn of Bannerre's true fears and insecurities, and in return, he got to learn about the mystery that kept plaguing the blue addison and their own feelings of guilt surrounding it. Their talks are usually more lighthearted nowadays, and more so consist of gossip. They are gossip buddies.
Mark: Mark intimidates Bannerre. Just a smidge. He can tell he doesn't actually take him all that serious and it makes them a little nervous to be seen through so easily. So it confuses them a bit when the larger addison choses to help them instead of completely belittling them. There's still a bit of belittling, but not that much. They're not one to look a gift horse in the mouth though, so they accept it. Just, with a little apprehension.
Bonus Info:
Bannerre is mostly based on peacocks, being the influence for her beak shape and tail feathers. He has also been compared to secretary birds, however, and honestly, I can see it, so now that's also something.
Bannerre is able to flare out their fail feathers (like a peacock) and turn them into smaller advertisements, shifting the patterns on them to create messages. These patterns are likely part of some different magic the addison possesses, as they are not true addison patterns created from feather growth patterns. Idk it's hard to explain
Bannerre's backstory of coming from a smart phone is inspired by the fact that banner ads are so much more annoying on mobile devices, since they take up so much more screen space. That's why he did so well back where he's from
Bannerre is a huge sucker for romance, and more often than not is selling products specifically relating to that. Jewelry, dating shoes, you name it. I don't think she's ever been a part of a stable relationship, however.
He has a pet poppup named Princess or something.
--------
Spamton
(He doesn't get a character sheet, you know who he is.)
Spamton G. O’Mailley had been a struggling business man back in the day, hardly making a single sale. His bug left him looking dull and unappealing, putting him at a severe disadvantage when competing against other, more vibrant addisons. He tried everything to combat the glitch, but in the end there was hardly anything he could do about it.
You know the rest--he came in contact with a benefactor that helped him reach heights no other addison had reached before. Now Spamton G. [Spamton], he became one of the biggest names in Cyber City, his fame even reaching outside the city and into other dark worlds. That is, until it all came crashing down into his face, leaving him at the bottom of a dumpster.
Spamton was never one to make many friends, even before his claim to fame. Many didn't want to associate with someone as unfortunate as him, afraid of catching his bad luck.
Relationships:
Webliam: Webs had been his closest friend, his best pal. They were in a similar boat when first starting out, both addisons trying to make a name for themselves. He even helped find ways around his bug, though the results weren't always the best. Part of him missed that kinship after he made it big, but he told himself he didn't have time to time to dwell on that then. He has time to dwell on it now, though. Webliam is one of the few people Spamton truly misses from his past.
Mobyl: Spamton had never trusted the blue addison. He knew they always saw him as more of a spectacle than an actual friend. Still, he appreciated the bit of company they offered during his big days, even if it often boiled down to them trying to squeeze answers out of him.
Mark: Mark had always been Spamton's greatest inspiration, almost a role model of sorts. He was the addison he wanted to be--big and loud and attention grabbing. Spamton's whole big shot personality was crafted around the idea of Mark. He had never really been that close to him though.
Bannerre: He never met Bannerre, and is probably hardly aware of their existence. He hasn't bothered checking in on the other addisons since his fall, so there's a good chance he's never seen the new face among their ranks.
Bonus Info:
Spamton is mostly based on woodpeckers, for both his beak shape and the idea of the rapid pecking thing being fitting for something like a spam email. I guess by association, all addisons pre-development are based on woodpeckers.
The bugs Webliam added to his code are why he's able to make his head grow larger and flash different colors. They were meant to be better work arounds for his main bug, and actually allow him to have better control over his form, but they more so ended up being little tricks he'd do to quickly gain someone's attention. They only worked for so long. Webliam is also how he's able to make pipis. Forkbomb or something.
After the incident with the acid, Spamton's mask was damaged beyond repair, and so the one he wears today is one he made from scratch. I imagine he might still have his old one (or at least a piece of it) hidden somewhere, he just never wears it for obvious reasons
Has heavy issues with his self image, and it's one of the reasons he craves a new body (besides the obvious immense power thing). He wishes he had a body he could actually properly make his own. He got close to that feeling during his big shot era, but then life punched him in the face and threw him in acid.
The Dealmakers act as a second pair of eyes for him, since his main ones can't see all that well due to. Well. Acid.
Has a LOT less feather coverage than he used to due to damage sustained from the acid, and struggles with feather loss on top of that due to over-preening and poor nutrition.
Enjoys painting, it being one of the few activities he's still able to find joy in to this day. He's a lil artist
Desperate to hold onto his big shot days, to the point of still wearing the clothes he used to wear back then (Pants, gloves, heels)
Being an addison, and therefore a creature obsessed with his appearance, he still tries to put effort into how he looks best he can. This one of the causes of his over-preening
He always had his vocal tics, they just got MUCH worse with time. His poor health also does not help
And okay I'm stopping here I NEED TO STOP MAKING THIS LONGER

what made you decide on spamtom being a bird? /lh
Honestly, it’s a little hard to remember exactly why I started depicting him and the other Addisons as birds. There’s just something about them that’s just very bird-like to me. Their pointy noses and bright flashy colors.. Spamton’s egg-like pipis. They are birds.
But yeah no, I’ve just always seen and drawn them like this
(OLD ART ALERT EW EW EW THIS SHIT IS FROM LIKE 2022)
I hate these weird ass birds so much /aff

More of this design of Spamton, because I’m lowkey obsessed with drawing his squinty lil’ creepy eyes

My HC is that Spamton’s glow as an Addison was already slightly dimmer than the rest, so he could actually open his eyes a little to see without being blinded.
I also gave the Addisons weirdly detailed teeth because I think it looks weird as hell :)
