Every day I think about what terrible advice "Don't draw ugly people" is..... I shouldn't be surprised by tiktok/youtube """""art advice"""" but it is kinda genuinely baffling that anybody ever said that whole-heartedly and meant it

#this new age of art ''advice'' is a fucking scourge honestly. like 95% of it is worthless at best and actively detrimental at worst #but that one clip in particular rattles around my head every so often #like what.....#in general. i think most bad art advice comes from the mindset that there's an endgoal to art #-the goal of drawing someone isn't to make them attractive; a character can look good/interesting without being #traditionally attractive. it's not a sign of bad art to draw a character that doesn't look like a sexyman #you HAVE to learn how to draw and stylize features and body types that aren't traditionally attractive. please #i could go on about this but. please draw ugly people

I also find it funny that fandom will only accept Lyanna being her non-conforming, wild self in the context of saying that Arya isn't meant to be pretty; Any other day we get back-to-back posts about how Lyanna is actually super traditionally feminine cause she sniffled at a song once, so she's actually more like Sansa. Instead of constantly speaking on Arya and Lyanna, how about you guys reflect on why your standards of beauty for women are attached to how well they perform feminity within the patriarchy?

what a fantastic transition

#as much as i absolutely adore LT with all my heart there are no cartoons out there that give me such a CONSISTENT sense of raw visceral joy #than the Fleischer Popeyes #they are the epitome of fun. that’s such a vague word i know but i think it perfectly encapsulates these cartoons #not too gaudy or self absorbed. despite the fantastical nature of some plots and the gags and visuals there’s a down to earth humility as #well. it owns its simplicity very well. hearing that ‘30s jazz reach a climax as the visuals and gags and tactility and emotions get #stronger and faster in the climax of these shorts literally #gives me goosebumps! it’s an adrenaline rush #i also adore Olive Oyl. i mean i love them all. Bluto is the greatest cartoon asshole of all time. i love the nobility of Popeye. but i #really love that Olive gets to be just as loud and mean and weird and ‘ugly’ as the rest of the guys. she can throw a punch too. she’s not #just there to look pretty or be coquettish. she has a really natural charm and doesn’t feel forced like ‘oooo look at the cool LADY #participating too!’ which i feel is an issue with cartoons of both the past and present #she’s just another facet to these cartoons without calling much attention to herself and i really like that and wish there were more #like her #popeye #seasin’s greetinks #kneitel #vid #the lack of regular woman characters outside of thin tropes in golden age cartoons doesn’t bug me as much as it really should #because as a kid i was so used to watching ‘boy’ cartoons and connecting with ‘boy’ characters (i thought liking girl characters would make #me ‘girly’) and so it’s something i’ve always been sort of used to #but with that said Olive is one character i feel very strongly about and am glad she exists for those reasons #i don’t know why i’m getting so deep on this 10 second post? but anyway you should watch Popeye if you haven’t

PLEASE.#I swear like every gifset I ever see that comes from tiktok is like the most gorgeous shit I’ve ever seen in my life #(specifically those videos of food that have really sunny lighting. OUGH that’s my SHIT)#but then EVERY TIME there’s like 5 cuts in every single individual gif. and it drives me crazy #don’t get me wrong they are good gifsets and it is not the gif makers fault. and obviously I know why the tiktok makers do that #bc there’s such a short time limit on the videos and they want to keep their attention and what not #but I swear to god they will make cuts that are SO FUCKING UNNECESSARY like just cutting literal milliseconds out of a satisfying shot.#which makes it no longer as satisfying. why. why do you do this to me.#listen I just have this secret rule that I never use gifs that have any cuts in them at all in my boards #unless they’re like really really nice. but even then like only two cuts max or I go crazy. Women’s self-image is as negative as ever despite the “body positivity” wave of choice feminism. Why?

I think one of the biggest reasons as to why women’s beauty standards and self-image are worse than even is because you can preach about unfair beauty standards all you want and tell women not to make fun of another woman’s looks but you can’t take away the social status and praise that women who are “beautiful” get from society (both men and women). You give them clout and praise them. Something both “body positivity” and “body neutrality” feminists do btw despite all the talk about acceptance.

It’s like saying you don’t support the ethics behind a product and yet still consume and buy it. In this case “beauty” being a luxury achieved via consumerism where women become the products (objects) that other women admire and obsess over. There is a demand so there is a supply PERIOD.

Women might not directly pursue beauty (“I do it for myself”) for men but nonetheless it’s definitely ingrained as a sign of status and that’s enough to cause a negative self-image in women who don’t participate. Men might have been the original perpetrators of installing unrealistic beauty standards for women but the victims (women) have also turned into perpetrators who can’t let go of the misogynistic status symbol of having value from appearances because it’s considered “culture”.

#ic.text #this goes for many spaces and #why I low key have little faith that women will every be free form this hyper fixation on looks #so you support hairy women and healthy eating but look at the own you praise #even if you’re not shit talking may women and saying positive words #it doesn’t go unnoticed how certain women are still valued #men don’t have a these self esteem issues because they are largely INDIFFERENT towards even handsome men #and this is why this whole ‘body positivity”’ from libfems to ‘body neutrality’#from radfems is just fake and two sides of the same coin #as long as you have have a constant steam of praise and clout for women #then women WILL be hella self-aware and conscious about their looks #how can’t they when ‘oh women pretty’ is constantly throw on their faces #that’s why women self monitor and all your ‘ x feature is pretty’ or ‘ have a neutral opinion on X feature because we’re human’ will never #work when you turn around and praise ( so raise the status of and regard) conventionally attractive women who perform femininity #it’s the leading cause as to why women pursue beauty - for praise and status - so of course the incentive will always be there #and to me it makes a lot of sense because if tomorrow there arose a kind of culture within society where attractive men who #really groomed themselves where praised to high heavens #whether women finally having standards for men or men casually valuing super handsome men #( without putting any ‘ugly’ men down for their looks)#a lot of men would subconsciously pick up on the new valored social status and want to peruse it #but they don’t have that culture that surround them AT all ( unlike with wome) so you don’t see men #with the bajillion complexes that women have - men have no incentive #they hardly ever get reminded that handsome men are valuable #the way women are valued by BOTH men and women for their beauty #tldr: both body positity or body neutrality are ineffective if you still give status into women who DO fit the standard #women and girls aren’t blind and will absolutely go for whatever gets them praised when if it’s harmful because the feedback/acceptance/#praise/money etc is WORTH it

i hated airpods & phones with those big fugly cameras in the back when they were announced as a concept & i hate them even more each time i see that hideousness in person

#i remember when i was 11 ( sorry for being a zoomer ) getting into an argument with an online acquaintance #over airpods because i thought they were retarded but she thought they were cool as if bluetooth ear pieces were a new invention #remember how the world used to make fun of them not even that many years prior. she was like nooobut you can hide them for cheating #& against thievery ( OK the only fair point I GUESS ) but they are just so ugly to me & stupid not practical too easily lost & damaged #especially with that pricetag like they could have made something COOL or Kawaii but of course sleek Nothing design is “in”#still after a decade now ♯MAKEITSTOP #honestly only like bluetooth for file sharing when necessary anything else is devilwork #as for the new giant multiple cameras design i mean use your eyes has there ever been an uglier decision #even if i had money i could never own a touch screen phone without a middle button & a normal camera lense in the back #like just looking at them makes me angry BUT mostly apple products i think android ones are less hives inducing #but TBH i have no headphone jack so... on my old broken phone i did but not this one -_- where are my principles......#well i will wear this one down until it dies i already have a cracked arse screen so until it breaks i will downgrade #also remember how cute silicone phone cases were in the early to mid 2010s ♯BringThatBack #honestly can you even i think phones today are just too damn big Not mine Doe 🦌 mine is almost perfectly sized for my hands (iphone7)#at least people have more charms than ever in my city at least i see people with cute lanyards & zoomer style JesusBeaters so great ^_^#sorry for complaining all the time but also if you are not here for my Kvetching then what else could you be here for...#*jumps into a well from shame*

I'm sorry I can't watch the new trigun and I never will. it looks so ugly. the vibe is no where near the same and it takes away 90% of the charm of the original and makes it into something totally different. I feel like theyre giving it the sports anime treatment where they're banking on twinkification selling lots. like a yaoi head trap.
