‘the children yearn for the mines’ is a little too real to me bc when i was a kid and my older siblings were trying to get me into pokémon i really never cared to try playing. BUT. i was obsessed with the underground mining minigame in dppt. i used to beg my sister to let me take a turn playing and set it up for me bc i didn’t know how to so i could go mine for gems nonstop until i cleared that entire cave section of glittering wall spots which always made me so sad bc i was having such a great time. i didn’t even understand the significance of what i was doing but 7 year old me was high off of it
#years and years later when i actually played platinum myself and it hit me like OH this is the game with the mining thing!!!#you have no idea how happy i was#…and also sad. it made me kinda heartsick bc in my childhood nostalgia dreams#my brother and sister used to play online together and do capture the flag#and their little minigame battles in the underground with their cool secret bases were so fun to watch#like that was back when the wifi connection was working and the games were alive and relevant#but i came back to it far far too late. when it was a mere relic and i was alone with no other players#still. hearing the music again brought a smile to my face#pokémon#dppt#i am once again rambling about my very special relationship to sinnoh#i didn’t play pokémon as a kid but also yes i did it was part of my childhood. like without really knowing much about it#the lil character sprites. hearthome city theme#the contests#the crunchy sound of the map opening#and the incomprehensible map itself#the bike and surf music#empoleon and staravia’s cries as they went to use surf and fly#truly. being a younger sibling watching your older sibling play has such an impact on you#it’s all nostalgic to me too i just didn’t know the full context of it myself back then#couple all this with the weird feeling of having played pokémon legends arceus as my first own game#and THEN going and finally checking out dppt#it was like double nostalgia. two different half-nostakgia experiences#just. agh i make fun of gen 4 for a lot of things but it is fundamentally my heart isn’t it#i also literally am incapable of talking about it for more than 5 minutes without bringing pla into it lol#pokeposting

And you don’t know what anyone looks like until you meet them!#The other thing in a similar vein was with dialga#I didn’t know what dialga was SUPPOSED to look like so when they’re all talking about how fucked up he is I was like damn#He DOES look pretty fucked up. Some kind of beast#And then after fixing time you see he looks THE SAME except with a palette change#Like oh. i see. That’s just what you look like#Dialga should’ve got a special form tho#Maybe something replacing the steel type with ghost#Bc without time he’s technically not alive#And I read somewhere the steel typing might’ve represented the steady nature of time or something#So with time being stopped it’s not flowing so steadily huh#This wasn’t supposed to be abt dialga tho. #im posting this very late because i was sort of weary of how it came out and ended up messing w it until it was like 4am oops.#and i have plans tmrw so... oh well! i did my best and ill put it out while i can!#and i tried to make the scene match barnard's colors lol#finn's ocs#finn's art#i know i said id do more sillay stuff with the simpler screentone only style but i had a couple more of these in me#and this is the first piece im making thats like an actual part of the story too rather than just setting stuff for fun#i wanna write something to go with it too but for now ill just sort of briefly explain the context in the tags here:#barnard has a pretty bad case of OCD and his compulsions have made it difficult to make friends in the past#he was never outright bullied or anything but people just didnt really have the patience to deal with it#he has compulsions that include stuff like walking through doors until it feels right and needing things to be perfectly aligned#which in group settings has lead to people having to wait for him to finish his rituals and join them#they might find it tolerable at first but eventually they grow impatient and hes just... not invited to stuff anymore#but juno is a newer member of the guild who ends up frequenting the same library. hes also kinda a little weird#and they dont become fast friends or anything but just sort of naturally spend time in the same place#though they never plan meetups they eventually fall into a routine. around the same time theyd just both be at the library#and read next to each other. and maybe talk a bit. and eventually they end up walking back to the guildhall together#since theyre going to the same place after all. and juno always waits for barnard outside the door#eventually barnard asks if this bothers him. juno kinda just tells him 'of course it does' without any malice or anything. just a statement#barnard is surprised and apologizes and juno says not to. but the next day juno doesnt show up at the usual time.#barnard assumes hes committed somekinda more by bringing it up. he ends up staying there late reading to get his mind off it & not ruminate#but when he leaves juno is in fact still waiting for him down the hall (see pic) having collected a bunch of books literally abt ocd#he fell asleep bc barnard stayed later than expected. and hes an eepy guy generally. and also one very bad at expressing himself#but now barnard gets that juno's 'of course it [bothers me]' had the implication of 'but its worth it' which no friend has previously done.#and from the interaction juno was also able to understand that this isn't something barnard just does for the hell of it so. he studies.#and checks a bunch of stuff out because he thinks it could help his friend too (theres ocd workbooks and such- i remember working w them)#and thats the point where they became more ''friends'' than ''pleasant library acquaintances''#from there on they also do get into juno's problems. whole other bag of worms. but this specific scene is more about bernard from his pov#sorry about when i said briefly explain. i lied </3#but compared to the whole sequence im picturing its brief so shhh

what if i said i actually love too weird to live, too rare to die and think it’s underrated. what then.
#idk at least the time i’ve lurked around p!atd fandom stuff it feels like no one ever brought up this album 😭😭#vices and virtues too but at least then there was still leftover ryan ross scraps to hold onto#but like. idk i like the dark las vegas vibes of twtltrtd#i’m not the biggest fan of this is gospel but once you get past it it’s got some bangers ngl#one super minor gripe with the album is that i think the brobecks version of far too young to die is better than the twtltrtd version#it’s minor but it’s true. listen to both versions of the song and you’ll understand#my only real complaints though are just with the lyrical content of girls/girls/boys and casual affair#i like the songs themselves but the lyrics….. who let them cook actually#what was brendon doing. why are you singing about affairs like that whilst you’re a fully married man. ????#but honestly the transition towards the end of the album to more romantic songs is nice#i think it fits well and is a good way to slowly die the energy down without completely squashing it#the end of all things is genuinely a beautiful song but an even more beautiful ending to the album#the lyrics are brendon’s wedding vows and the piano is very nice#i like the effects on the vocals and i think they were a good choice to make everything even more cohesive#it doesn’t take away from the emotional value of the song and it also makes it fit better on the album than if it were just a regular#kind of piano ballad#but then also having collar full be the song leading up to it? even better#i fucking love collar full and agh. having it lead into the end of all things is perfect for it#it’s fun on its own but it’s even better in context i think#anyways. too weird to live too rare to die is an alright pop rock album. go listen to it if you want#me.txt

As a fellow aroace, I did think it was romantic, but also all my preexisting ideas of romance come from other ships and none of them are as interesting as this (aside from madoka/homura but all my favourite ships are some variation of that) anyway I'm eating your sifloop interpretation with ten spoons. Have you considered writing fanfic because if you did I would read it on loop
aroace people will look at a pair of characters who are this 🤏 close to mutually assured destruction and yet fundamentally cannot exist without each other and go : . yeah that's romance? right ? ?
(also god. i think i last watched madoka when i was what? 13? i need to rewatch that its been over 10 years my god. i never even got to any of the movies.)
also no i do not write fic !! not confident enough in my prose outside of dialogue if im honest. i play with prose in my little noncanon oc sandbox on toyhou.se where there's no pressure to be halfway decent. maybe i'll be strong enough someday, but also as ive said prior this is the first fandom in uh. over 5 years if not more. that i've really made actual fancontent for. and the first one ever where anyone's noticed me. so i've no experience in the medium. i will continue putting way too many speech bubbles in my comics though don't worry about that.

#The Sun and The Void#aroaessidhe 2023 reads#hm. haha. surface level this is kinda interesting and cool but i am going to follow with so many complaints#though I feel like it didn’t go into the magic or worldbuilding as much as I wanted and it felt irrelevant to the characters#like how does the magic even work? idk man#though I feel like it didn’t go into it as much as I wanted and it felt irrelevant to the characters#very slow to start and the pacing is weird. it would also go ages without having the other POV. very disjointed?#it felt like the first 60% was just context for the group of characters getting together as a group and then it was a bit predisposed with#They’re A Group! even tho. they're barely a group for long#the authors note mentions that the story concept started with a line about the god and ritual and…..yeah I can kind of tell#I feel like everything was built up around it in a way that ultimately that part didn’t fit right#I never bought that any of them were actually like fully committed to the evil dark magic? and also there’s this plot twist#that they have to fully kill the sacrifices & I was like…did we not already know that? girl r you stupid what do you think sacrifice means#also#oh my god at like half way one of the MCs is like. oh finally this guy who I’ve been exchanging letters with for months turned up to get me#away from here! by the way I’ve been exchanging letters with this guy and we’re friends! and like. she’d been doing nothing much for the#last 10% of the book why was that not like….shown as something she was doing? and like build up the friendship for the reader instead of#just dropping it on us - and also that we know the character from the other POV. and hes a racist prick. and we're supposed to believe she'#charmed by him because of this letter writing WE DIDN’T SEE….. why.#and then also that is like. he’s a shitbag and it’s obviously not romantic at all. he’s manipulative and terrible to her#EXCEPT at the end it implies his bad behaviour is because demon and oh uwu he gets all beat up and maybe hes sowwy now#and starts to imply she likes and is attracted to him? and I get the impression the next book is gonna be like evil power couple dynamic?#which. feels like the first concept the author had; and then tried to build up to that but not effectively lmao#for the lesbians:#I DO APPRECIATE having an assumed love interest then realising that that was idealised and actually you have feelings#for this other person you’ve become friends with! nice slow switch up. though quite brief#I do however dislike that when she admitted her feelings to the first LI and she rejected her it was still framed as the other’s fault#for not reciprocating the feelings….worst trope….also like. it kind of conflated her not feeling that way to her having a bit of class disc#which. yikes? oh my god stop villainising people for not reciprocating romantic feelings (ALSO they turn out to be related anyway 🤪)#i just feel like the romance switchover could have been done with more nuance and complexity

i love the egg child part of the qsmp so much i just need to put it into words. it’s such a smart idea for how to make sure the server stays active — it’s not an activity requirement, but if you don’t take care of your egg, it will die. theoretically, you could just let your egg die and you can let someone else take care of it when you aren’t free to join. but people fall in love with their little pixel children and then they WANT to be active, it’s not an obligation they have to fill but something their consistently excited to do.
and having the parents be an english streamer and a spanish streamer is such a good way to make sure they all interact with each other across the language barrier. sure, there is some in-game translation to make things easier, but they also end up talking on discord to coordinate childcare and in the screenshots we’ve seen i think it’s so interesting how they’ll often speak the other person’s language rather than just picking one to both use or only using their own. co-parenting also gives them the basis for building up strong and unique relationships between the streamers themselves and their qsmp characters, which would’ve been much harder to develop without being given a starting point given the language barrier.
it’s just so clear how much thought quackity has put into this server and it’s so fun to watch everyone fall in love with their little egg children
#also as a side note the people ahead of time being like ‘this is such a random group of people why did q pick them they aren’t even friends’#it makes a lot more sense with the egg context#everyone he picked is someone who will be a good parent#their online personas allow for them to be responsible without losing the way they normally act in content#and they’re all the kind of people who take silly things seriously and won’t think it’s funny just to kill other people’s eggs for no reason#like i love tommy and he is great at loving things in minecraft but it would be SO weird to see him be a parent yknow#like it just doesn’t fit with his online persona he’s presenting more mature as he gets older but still#the ‘child’ propaganda is still too strong rn#and regardless of how close quackity currently is or isn’t with dteam and co#i think it’s pretty clear why he wouldn’t want to include anyone who participated in trying to kill micheal b.#it’s not the vibe he was going for with this server#the way that things have played out with the eggs makes it very clear that everyone was well chosen for this server#it’s good content but still lighthearted and filled with love#very long tag rant oops#qsmp#my post

Had to delete (or rather move to my deleted scenes document) my first scene of Shared Dreams AU because despite a very important element put in it I realized it wasn't fit for a first scene and really drew out the moment before the inciting incident in a boring way
Cons: I went from 2000+ words to 700
Pros: Since the scene is still important and needs absolutely to be in the story I got another chapter basically already written
#Shared Dreams AU#plus it made Espio seem very negative about his life and that's just not what I want his character to be seen as#so giving him a more lighthearted first scene will be better to establish who he is and how the inciting incident affects him#like he enjoys the little things and loves his chosen family aka the peeps he lives with they're just in a rougher patch money-wise#but the og made it so focused on the bad due to it paired with the inciting incident it was weird#and I didnt know how I would go from there to some other story events without accidentally making an obnoxious bE gRaTeFuL narrative#which I want to avoid bc I hate it when it's used irl for that specific context like in the story so why would I put it in a fic JFBJSCKFJD#rambling
