A drabble of married life

Somewhere in the future of Empire Reimagined when Sola and Firmus are married about a year:

"Hello, Max," Sola said, glancing up at Veers as the Lady admitted him to the Admiral's quarters with no ceremony as was her wont.

He'd been concerned at this for a little while after his dearest friend and brother married into the Skywalker insanity. Well. Nearest relation to it---but that was semantics.

Piett was in some odd way now the brother in law of Lord Vader, and Max was not going to stop enjoying that.

However.

Having been married once himself to the best woman in the galaxy, Max had some of the social niceties still programmed in his psyche. He didn't ever want to just barge into Piett's quarters as he had when Firmus was single.

He'd mentioned this to the Admiral who merely grinned and slapped his back. "The Lady would never let you in to an awkward situation, Max, I promise."

There was something delightfully more assured about Piett now. Something in his soul had been healed---something that not even the Princess or Max or Scraps had been able to reach, much as they loved him.

His accent slipped out more often. His sense of humor as well. Veers could only bask happily in this change.

And if he thought that perhaps Piett would not have quite as much time for their friendship as before, he was sorely mistaken.

Sola was cross legged on the sofa, her rich hair in a loose bun and strands wisping over her cheeks as she tapped at something on a datapad. A bottle of wine was on the table before her and her glass was half full.

"Perfect timing," she said, gesturing to this. He realized that there were two empty glass waiting to be filled.

Two.

"Get comfortable," she told him, rising and trotting to the galley in her socks to start the kettle. "If you're here, Firmus won't be far behind."

"Sola..." Veers said, unlatching his jacket and shrugging it off. "If I'm ever being a nuisance, I hope you and I can be honest enough to---"

She turned to lean against the counter and raise an eyebrow at him.

Kark.

There were times she was eerily like her niece.

"You are my brother in law in all ways that matter, Max," she told him calmly. "And I have yet to hear even a fraction of the stories that involve you saving my husband's life. You are ALWAYS welcome. And wanted."

Warmth filled his chest.

"Do...you always put out three glasses?" he asked curiously as he seated himself to draw off his boots with a sigh.

"Yes," she answered easily. "I know the habits you two had. I have no intention of taking that from you. I'm just adding myself to it."

She grinned and tucked a strand of hair behind her ear.

Longing swept him and Sola must have seen the change in his face.

"Max?"

"Just..."

The doors hissed open to admit the Admiral who was followed by a galley droid with a generous tray.

"Did you order this, Sola?" he asked, gesturing to the little droid as it beeped happily into the center of the living area. "it followed me here."

"Naturally," she replied, crossing easily to Piett. "You are utter rubbish at meals."

"Henley tell you that?" Piett grumbled, removing his cap. "Because---"

She stopped his mouth with her own and Max enjoyed the predictable flush on his friend's cheekbones as she released him with a gentle pat to his chest.

"No actually," she replied, plucking his cap from his fingers and drawing him to the sofa so he could also remove his boots.

Piett shot a look to the ceiling. "You and the Lady conspiring again?"

"Maybe," Sola said, pouring two more glasses of wine and turning to lift the tray from the galley droid. It beeped and zipped back out, clearly proud of itself. "But Max was about to tell me something."

It was Veers' turn to feel self conscious.

"Oh...it was nothing, Sola."

Piett knew him too well and turned that penetrating hazel gaze upon the General.

"Doesn't sound like nothing, Max," he said calmly, slinging an arm easily around his wife and picking up a wine glass. Veers reached for his own to cover his feelings.

"I was...just being envious, Firmus," he said, sitting back and waving a nonchalant hand. "That's all. Nothing to worry about."

There was a beat.

The Pietts watched him with almost identical looks of concern.

"It's our joy and delight to worry about you, General," Sola said softly as she took a drink, those blue eyes piercing him over the rim of her glass.

And they meant it to their core. He knew this. So he sighed.

"I was just wishing before you entered, Piett, that...that Myra could have met you both. I just---ah---you have a lot in common, Sola."

She smiled.

"That's one of the nicest compliments I've ever been given."

The Admiral, who knew Veers' scars here well, raised his glass. "I wish that too, friend of mine," he said gently. "She had the very good taste to marry the best man I know after all."

Veers allowed his mouth to curl then, gratitude for them both filling him.

"A good principle," Sola agreed, snuggling in close to Piett's side, eliciting a contented grunt from her husband. "To marry the best man one knows. I did."

Max chuckled. "No argument there, Sola," he replied, leaning over to lift the cover of the tray and releasing fragrant scents.

And the wine was rich while the friendship was richer.

I've been studying the Old Testament this year, and I happen to be on Job today. I listened to it for the whole 2 hour drive back home from my parents' house today, and I have a few takeaways:

1. Job's friends were jerks

2. Job understood this, and I loved his response--he called them out on it, stood up for himself, and taught them the gospel

3. After listening to everyone else give their spiels, the youngest one in the group (Elihu) basically said "okay boomers, I've been sitting here waiting for you to finish this whole time, and the Spirit's telling me to speak up and I have thoughts, so listen up." And then basically says "God is awesome and the definition of goodness, so all y'all need to spend more time thinking about that instead of trying to sound all wise and crap." It was entertaining.

4. Then the Lord comes in and gives us some awesome tidbits about how involved He is in the lives of all His creations. And Job drinks his Respect juice. And the Lord reassures Job that he's good. And that his friends are jerks and need to repent.

5. They did repent in the end, so good on them

Star Wars Fic Recs on AO3

Mathmusic8 - Lost and Found - Fives and Kix, deals with a lot more than Fives and Kix. Also Only Partially Applied, which explores what might've happened if the clone's control chips were just slightly weaker

Epsilonderidani - Vode An, the first “Fives Lives” fic I ever read, still one of my favorites. Fives centric

Cuthalion97 – everything. Humor is 11/10. Start with Misadventures of Jedi Generals if you don’t know where else to go. Clones and Jedi generals centric

Inksplots - Nobody Listens to Kix and Just for Kix, great humor, huge inspiration to me for Kix's characterization. Kix centric

YoungestThunderbird – “Arcadia” series plus other works, very soft and fun. Clone centric

Wishfulthinking1979 – “Empire Reimagined” series plus many, many other wonderful AUs, including but not limited to Modern Day in England, Western, Tall Ships, and more. Firmus Piett and Max Veers centric (two side characters in the original trilogy)

Gaeasun – "After the War" series is super cute and fun. Sticks and Stones Did Break Their Bones, crack fic, Fives and 501st centric, pretty fun. I enjoyed Oh Captain my Captain, too. Works are usually centered around Tup and Dogma. Their angst doesn’t always end with fluff, so mind the tags. Clone centric

Leias_left_hair_bun - specializes in softness and sometimes angst, but mostly kids being kids and I love that. Of toddlers and ARC troopers and its sequel The return of the toddler (Nibbler) are great places to start. Clone centric

sheApunk89 - "Wilder mind" series, Force sensitive Rex gets trained by Obi-Wan. It's been a hot second since I read this one, but I remember enjoying the ending and the fact that Keeli was there. Rex centric

Triscribe - "Vod'e An" series, clones show up back in time at pivotal moments around their Jedi, lots of delightful cameos. Clone centric

AllyMoslof - Operation: Don't Wake the Commander, hilarious crack-fic about a shiny who takes his job way too seriously. Excellent twist. Clone centric

whymylife - --and Your People Will Never Be Destroyed, a fantastic fic where clone cadets piece things together early and do something about it. Cody centric

BonesofBeowulf - "Stars and Beskar" series, pretty unique AU. Has great humor, action, and characterizations. Jango and clone centric (though they aren't technically clones in this fic)

Whathenshallwesay - For The Glory, incredible post-Order 66 double-agent Cody fic. Great humor, drama, and plot. Cody centric

Killbothtwins - The Legend of Liob, a hilarious 212th shenanigans-turned-fix-it. Cody centric

smilebackwards - "Mission Reports" series, a collections of one-shots in an AU where Qui-Gon lived and now has to write his own mission reports. Very soft, hopeful, processing grief, and comfort. Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan centric

WeyrWolfen - Eidola, a post-Order 66 fic where Rex and Ahoska head up a clone-rescue organization. Lots of fantastic OCs, emotions, humor, and rich setting-details. Clone centric

Asking for prayers

One of my nieces had a seizure last night and passed away this morning. She was a teenager and like a sister to me. We’re going to miss her so much. Please pray for us, especially my sister and her husband. This wasn’t their first loss recently and they still have three little ones at home.

God is good, the resurrection is real, and we're so excited to have my niece back with us someday

It just occurred to me that Daiyu was Leia's first time off Alderaan

No wonder she looked a little shell-shocked to nearly run into that huge alien--it was probably the first moment she finally felt safe enough to run off on her own, to really look at the world around her, and then she realizes how different it is, and how lost she is, aside from this strange man who she's known for like 10 minutes and he smells bad but he got her out of that room and speaks softly and seems to be trying to be gentle, even if he's bad at it

Kintsukuroi by Wishfulthinking1979 -  Luke Skywalker is captured and interrogated by a small Imperial outpost. In his desperation, he screams into the Force. And the Force delivers. In fact, it delivers more than one rescuer and events unfold in unexpected ways.

Mirror by MnM_ov_doom - Luke had seen that familiar face before, he just didn't know where.

Multiples - Vaderkin in ROTS by Rivana Rita (CourtesyTrefflin) - The mission to rescue the Chancellor becomes complicated when, out of nowhere, four more versions of Anakin randomly appear on the Invisible Hand. Except two of them are Sith cyborgs. Obi-Wan can already feel the headache coming on. One Anakin is hard enough. But five? Who all want his attention? Who all consider him their father? Epsilonderidani - Vode An, the first “Fives Lives” fic I ever read, still one of my favorites. Fives centric

Cuthalion97 – everything. Humor is 11/10. Start with Misadventures of Jedi Generals unless something else catches your eye first. Clones and Jedi generals centric

Inksplots - Nobody Listens to Kix and Just for Kix, great humor, huge inspiration to me for Kix's characterization. Kix centric

YoungestThunderbird – “Arcadia” series plus other works, very soft and fun. Clone centric

Gaeasun – "After the War" series is super cute and fun. Sticks and Stones Did Break Their Bones, crack fic, Fives and 501st centric, pretty fun. I enjoyed Oh Captain my Captain, too. Works are usually centered around Tup and Dogma. Their angst doesn’t always end with fluff, so mind the tags. Clone centric

Leias_left_hair_bun - specializes in softness and sometimes angst, but mostly kids being kids and I love that. Of toddlers and ARC troopers and its sequel The return of the toddler (Nibbler) are great places to start. Clone centric

sheApunk89 - "Wilder mind" series, Force sensitive Rex gets trained by Obi-Wan. It's been a hot second since I read this one, but I remember enjoying the ending and the fact that Keeli was there. Rex centric

Triscribe - "Vod'e An" series, clones show up back in time at pivotal moments around their Jedi, lots of delightful cameos. Clone centric

AllyMoslof - Operation: Don't Wake the Commander, hilarious crack-fic about a shiny who takes his job way too seriously. Excellent twist. Clone centric

whymylife - --and Your People Will Never Be Destroyed, a fantastic fic where clone cadets piece things together early and do something about it. Cody centric

Whathenshallwesay - For The Glory, incredible post-Order 66 double-agent Cody fic. Great humor, drama, and plot. Cody centric

smilebackwards - "Mission Reports" series, a collections of one-shots in an AU where Qui-Gon lived and now has to write his own mission reports. Very soft, hopeful, processing grief, and comfort. Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan centric

WeyrWolfen - Eidola, a post-Order 66 fic where Rex and Ahoska head up a clone-rescue organization. Lots of fantastic OCs, emotions, humor, and rich setting-details. Clone centric

BreakfastTea - lots of fun, soft Jedi Fallen Order fics. Warmth is a good place to start. Cal Kestis centric

HowFarNorth - Reformation, Glittering, a nice little slice of life Rep Comm fic about a side-character that I found surprisingly relatable, Jilka centric

MollyPollyKinz - The Calm Before the Storm, a time travel fix-it where Ezra (Star Wars Rebels) is sent back to the Clone Wars era and has a bit of a rocky landing. Unfinished, but has a great plot and an excellent fluff-to-angst ratio. Ezra Bridger centric

Virdant - Lessons of Peace, a short fluffy one-shot of Obi-Wan and the 212th making dumplings with younglings, Cody centric

TheLadyNovelist - "Remedial Math", a short one-shot about Luke, Han, and Leia bonding over teaching Luke some math. No prior knowledge of math required, but the fact that it's math, Star Wars, friendships, and even some hunt/comfort in the background--I love everything about this <3

Cac0daemonia - Will You Walk With Me, very good writing, slow-burn of the Clone War, includes excellent art, Waxer and Boil centric

Hollyoakhill - The Intruder, fairly clean thriller/horror, excellent ending, incredible art. Clones and Obi-Wan centric

BlueSunshine – “The Desert Storm” series, very very long, incredible writing and world building. Mind the tags–it gets a bit dark in certain places, and there's a lot of swearing around certain characters. Obi-Wan centric as well as other various people

BonesofBeowulf - "Stars and Beskar" series, pretty unique AU. Has great humor, action, and characterizations. Jango and clone centric (though they aren't technically clones in this fic)

TariSilmarwen - "Mirrorverse" series, an AU of Star Wars Rebels where Ezra is caught during a heist and interrogated. Mind the tags. There is a fair amount of comfort to offset the hurt, and I was able to skip around the darker spots without losing the overall plot. The series carries forward to the end of the show, and I loved the ending. Ezra Bridger centric.
