“WHY DOES NO ONE BELIEVE YOU?” she asks confused as she looks over the comments on lewis’ recent post. she hadn’t seen it until now and only now had the chance to like it.

“I wouldn’t believe me either love, you are way to beautiful.” he says casually as he settles down next to her, placing his arm around her waist, pulling her closer.

“that’s stupid.” she says softly, her accent coming out slightly when saying the word ‘stupid’, making lewis smile at her lovingly. “I’ll make a post.” she states firmly, already going to make a post on instagram.

“not right now.” he says calmly, softly laughing as he takes her phone out her hands and sets it down on the coffee table. “right now we are having date night and we aren’t going let anything distract us, so do it in the morning.” he tells her with a smile as he grabs the remote and popcorn and settles it on his lap as she leans her head against his shoulder.

“fine, but in the morning, I am making a post because people thinking you couldn’t have a chance dating me is ridiculous.” she says, her tone still a little irritated from reading the comments.

he chuckles slightly as he lifts her chin to look up at him and kisses her softly, “thank you for being so protective love, but I don’t need it.” he leans his forehead against hers.

“doesn’t matter, I’ll do it anyway.” her frown changing to a smile at the tenderness of the moment. “I love you.” she whispers to him, almost like she hasn’t told hundreds of times.

“I love you too gorgeous.” he whispers back.

“does that mean you’ll finally let me teach you to dance kizomba?” she says hopeful, looking at him with pleading eyes.

he throws his head back in laughter, “you don’t give do you?” he says smiling as he looks back down at her. “fine, I give up, I’ll let you teach me.” he agrees, her smile only growing wider as she stands up quickly and she runs to get her speaker making him groan. “baby, not now.” he says, letting his head fall back on the coach.

“yes now, because then you’ll back out of it. now up you get.” she says setting the speaker up and looking though her song collection on spotify as she picks a song. “we’ll start off easy, a nice slow kizomba.” she smiles as the song ‘loucos’ by matias damásio and héber marques starts playing.

she slowly teaches him the steps. she leads the dance and makes sure he has his hands and feet in the right position.

after a few minutes of trying again and again, he manages to get the steps right and they are moving around the living room to the song as they look at each other without speaking.

he spins her around making her giggle softly which places a wide grin on his face as they go back to the close proximity they were once in and continue moving to the beat of the music.

“you’re getting good.” she whispered to him and she places her forehead against his.

“got a good teacher.” he smiles.

“eu estou tão apaixonada por te, eu acho que tu nem entendes.” she whispers to him in portuguese, making his grin grow wider as he looks at her. (I am so in love with you, I don’t think you understand.)

he hums softly, “I am not exactly sure what you said, but I am pretty sure my response is, I love you too.” he whispers back as he kisses her cheek making her blush.

“és o amor da minha vida.” she tells him with complete certainty. (you are the love of my life.)

“ah, now that I do know and my love, you are also the love of my life. more then you can imagine.” he speaks with the same tone she did whilst looking at her like she hung the moon and the stars.

It was still hot outside even though it was nearing midnight and Hinata’s eyes began to sting. The temperatures rarely dropped below anything considered perfect summer weather in Japan. Last year when he realized it wouldn’t snow during wintertime he found it new and exciting. This year, the prospect only filled him with dread.

For the most part, he really enjoyed Brazil. He had found a new love in beach volleyball, got along pretty well with the people around him and… and that was about it. It wasn’t unusual for him to feel lonely when he had time to think about something other than training on his delivery runs - or when he was alone in his apartment and happened to glance too long at his lock screen showing his friends grinning widely into the camera.

But tonight felt different. The last delivery he had just dropped off was for a married couple, the husband being Japanese. As he opened the door to receive his food, his eyes lit up and after noticing Hinata’s accented Portuguese when he asked for the money, he had switched over to his native language with a hopeful glint in his eyes. And that was all it took. That short exchange had cracked the dam inside of Hinata that had been filling up since his arrival a little over 18 months ago. He reached a park, scarcely bigger than the gym back home, that, from the looks of it, seemed to be mostly deserted. Through the sparse amount of trees with their lusciously green canopy, he spotted the hustle and bustle of a restaurant. Warm, inviting lights, laughter, music - people having a good time. And as usual, he was on the outside looking in. He slowed and eventually got off his delivery bike. Maybe he shouldn’t be riding it when his vision started to blur. A few drops fell onto the pebbly pathway from an earlier short November shower.

Not bothering to wipe away the water from the bench he plopped down and took a deep breath. He had trouble doing so in the swampy humid air. He leaned forward, staring at the ground. Another wave of laughter carried over from the restaurant. He slung his arms around his chest, his head was almost between his knees now and he coughed a little when he felt a lump in his throat. He began to mutter to himself in Japanese. “Why am I here? What was I thinking? I miss everyone so much. I wanna go home! I -“

“Hey, are you okay?”

Hinata quickly turned his head away, closing his eyes to keep calm.

The voice seemed to belong to a young woman. You stood a couple of meters away, a plastic bag from a convenience store in one, a popsicle in the other hand.

Just wishing you would leave him alone, he nodded but couldn’t stop a small sniffle.

“Yeah, you see, I don’t believe that.”, you said in a kindly teasing sort of way. He only realized now that you spoke Japanese.

You added, “Do you want to talk about it?”

“No.”, he said to his shoes, worried you might think less of him when you saw the big heavy tears now rolling down his face and onto the clenched fists on his knees.

Your shadow, formed by a streetlamp behind you, nodded thoughtfully, then held the popsicle between your lips while rummaging in your bag for something.

Pebbles crunching under your shoes, you came closer and a moment later placed a pack of tissues and a small bottle of strawberry milk next to him, taking a couple of steps back again.

He looked up.

“Of course, I don’t know what’s going on, but I’m sure everything will seem a little better tomorrow.”

Your smile was genuine and sweet. A slight accent told him you weren't a native speaker but the only thing he could really make out in the faint light was your curvy silhouette.

When he didn’t say anything you went on, “It’ll be okay. Maybe you should get some sleep.”

After a short unsure pause you walked away. He watched you go. His eyes fell onto the gifts next to him and he let out a small thankful whimper, using his shoulder to wipe away the tears that threatened to fall again. Hinata cleared his throat and, gingerly at first, grabbed the milk and tissues to put in his pocket for later.

The following morning he woke up tangled in his bedsheets and quieted the blaring alarm on his phone. He yawned, rubbed his eyes, and as he stared at the ceiling of his small apartment the previous night came back to him. A short twinge of embarrassment rose in his chest. It wasn’t that he had never cried in public but just because he had done so before didn’t mean he was immune to the feeling of shame that followed.

He rolled over and spotted the now-empty bottle of strawberry milk sitting on the low table in his cramped room. What would be the chances of seeing you again? At the very least he wanted to thank you for your kindness. But he was also so desperate for a friend, especially one he could speak Japanese with. And so, deciding he would drive by the little park again tonight, he crawled out of bed and got started on his day.

Six days later and still no luck. It was pretty absurd to hope to find one person again in a city as huge as Rio de Janeiro, especially after only seeing them through a veil of tears in the weakened light of a park lantern, but if Hinata was good at anything it was never giving up.

The first week passed. Then the second.

At this point, he had to squeeze the pack of tissues in his pocket to make sure he didn’t just imagine the whole exchange.

Then two nights later, as he hurried up the steps to an apartment building he felt his determination slipping a little. What if he had already passed you on the street and didn’t recognize you? You might stay that kind stranger forever. He rang the bell of this latest delivery and absently drummed his fingers on his thighs as he waited for the door to open.

“Boa n- oh! Hey you!”

Hinata’s eyes widened. He recognized the voice. Oh, he definitely didn’t expect you to be this pretty. A smile, wider than any he had felt in months, spread across his face. Finally. He found you.

a/n: is it very obvious yet that I love the trope of meeting your s/o when one of you is having a really bad day?

I'm dying of embarrassment as I type this, but I personally don't like being left out of a joke, so...

I've seen some people point out that, in the english subs, when Style says “Your stuff here... fits me perfectly”, that sounds a bit, uh, suggestive. In the sense that, uh, it might suggest that, uh, Style believes that, uh, something else of Fadel would also fit him perfectly.

That- That's it. That's the innuendo.

Trivia Time: trying to figure out how to explain this got me curious to see how that particular sentence was translated to other languages, so I changed the subs for the other ones I know to see what the translators did... And guess what! The results I got were completely different!!!!

In spanish, Style says “Todo lo que tienes es muy adecuado” (Everything you have is very adequate). That sounds like a compliment to Fadel, and a subtle teasing to how he looks after (his) things (everything has to be in order; everything has to be adequate).

In portuguese, Style says “Tudo em você parece tão perfeito para mim” (Everything of yours seems to have been bespoken for me). Which!! Makes me wanna scream!! I tried to translate it in a way that made sense in english, but what he's saying in these subs is basically “It seems like you are all perfect for me”. Which is uabsbswuhz the cutest freaking thing????

Anyways. These differences are fun to compare, but I really wish I could understand what he's actually saying in thai 😅 The only thing I know for sure is that the exasperated “Shut up” from Fadel works as a response for all three 🤭

I don't know why my brain just took it very literally, like, "Oh hey, your clothes actually do fit me!" which was worth commenting because Style is so clearly skinnier than Fadel, y'know?? Although you can kinda tell in the shot that the pants sit loose on Dunk's hips because boy has he worked on making his waist thin (I say, with great appreciation).

(I just took Fadel's "shut up" as like "please... just stop talking. xD Because he was already so clearly Affected by Style at that point)

*O* the Portuguese translation, OH MY GOD!??! How CUTE!?! I'm tickled pink at how the subs could be creating drastically different impressions for different viewers, though. Because Style definitely comes across as less of a gremlin and more sweetly flirty.

Yep! They definitely wanted to avoid liability and was able to spin most of the bad press because -wait for it- US swiffers dont read Portuguese. Most of the articles discussing the death of Ana (and the injuries of over 1000 fans and the death of the robbery victim before the show) were in Portuguese as many of the rightfully critical sources were Brazil based. This gave swifts team the upper hand and could just say whatever she wanted because who's gonna google translate when they can absolve mother immediately. Swift/her team claimed she contacted Ana's family privately, the family (I believe her cousin and sister) replied to the announcement on twitter that she did not. Then she actually reached out and invited them to take a pic with her. Yknow with the woman who was responsible for their relatives death. PR also released all sorts of Travis lovey dovey, and holiday plan articles. The only things I've seen in English were random relationship bullshit and some article that mentioned how frizzy her hair looked in Brazil. It was 100% a coverup; I think they knew they'd be liable for negligence and distanced themselves as much as possible. While still making tons of money.

Also I'm sure it's obvious but she's racist as fuck and does not care about her fans of color. She wouldn't even stay in Brazil during that bit. She flew to one of her houses every night. Not white af Scotland though, they need to hydrate ✨✨

Oh yeah- I also saw a lot of cover up stories. I saw so many fans posting to insta about how out-of-breath Taylor looked- yet none of those people were talking about the literal death and hospitalizations occurring around her. They were only talking about how hard it must have been for Taylor Swift to sing in those conditions- and "omg look how much Mother cares about us"

Swift sure does use the media to cover up her shitty life choices a lot for someone who also claims the media is constantly bullying her.

I've probably said this before but I usually don't post film music on this blog. Mainly because it's questionable how much a score for a film could be considered "classical" or of the classical tradition. On the one hand, the kinds of genre and styles used for films, and the specific function of the music as accentuating or being part of the overall finished work of the film makes it out to be its own unique genre. On the other hand, classical composers in history have written incidental music for stage plays as well as scores for films, from early / classic film scores by Saint-Saëns or Prokofiev or later in the century by Takemitsu or Glass and going through to today. Regardless I had heard this music before seeing the film Poor Things and was immediately taken in. I loved it so much that I was disappointed that it did not win the Oscar for best film score this weekend (though I won't complain much because the winning score by Ludwig Göransson for Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer was evocative and intense so it was worthy of the award and praise). Still I have a soft spot for Jerskin Fendrix's imaginative and otherworldly music fitting for the equally "otherworldly" and fantastical atmosphere that the world of Poor Things tries to evoke. Yorgos Lanthimos is one of my favorite living directors and I was excited to see this film, even moreso after hearing the score. While I love the exuberant style, unique cinematography, and the dreamlike images, I will admit I was somewhat disappointed by the film overall (I didn't love it as much as I did his 2018 film The Favourite), and am still uneasy and disturbed by the subject matter and implications of an infant/prepubescent mind developing in the body of an adult woman, and all of the uncomfortable sex scenes and conversations as the film goes along. Still, I do love this score as a stand-alone album. Bella's theme is awkward, slightly out of tune and discordant, conveying the kind of naivety, curiosity, and somewhat self consciousness of being a "child" trying to understand the world they live in. The score continues with keyboard textures, detuned harps and winds, scratchy violins, vocalized oos and ahs, creating a lot of artificial and even alien sounds that disorients the listener in the same way that the wide lenses and porthole shots disorient the viewer. And later in the film (mild spoiler alert) when "Bella's" "real husband" arrives, we are made to feel sick and unsettled by the low frequency pulsing that makes us dread his arrival. A lot of textures and harmonies are unexpected in ways that make me wish Stravinsky were still alive so he could hear and share his thoughts. I especially thought of Stravinsky with my personal favorite track, "Portuguese Dance II", with violent and punchy, comically disturbed accordion chords that open into a catchy dance tune which may as well have come from one of his ballets. This same music gets its own awkward dance scene (another Lanthimos trademark) with Emma Stone's Bella and Mark Ruffalo's despicable Duncan. Again this is a bit different from my usual posts but regardless I hope you can enjoy the bizarre and wonderful soundworld that Fendrix created for this film.

what fandoms do you write for? At the moment it's just Good Omens, but there's been a lot of Dragon Age, some Lord of the Rings, and way back in the day there was Harry Potter and a lot of anime. I am toying with dipping my toe back in LotR, there's a thing I wrote ages ago that's entirely finished and just needs editing and I've been meaning to get it out there for ages. It's long though, so that'd be a commitment.

do you respond to comments? Yep! Sometimes just with "Thanks!" or hearts but I try to. Though they get away from me sometimes and then I do a bunch all at once.

What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? Definitely Warmaiden, which is my "What if Éowyn got the One Ring?" fic, from an idea that occurred to me one day and wouldn't leave. Clearly that doesn't end well for her, or anyone. From GO fandom it's probably Silent Night, which I still want to expand into a larger fic to be a set with Give Me Your Illusions. Someday, someday.

What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? Most of them! But for the happiest I'd say Swan Lake Revised, cowritten with @mostlyjustgoose. And if we ever get part three up it'll be even more happy. And smutty. Very smutty.

Do you get hate on fics? Very rarely. I've been lucky there.

Do you write smut? If so, what kind? Oh here's the irony. I used to do a lot a lot a LOT of online roleplaying and mygod I wrote smut. So much. So. Much. I don't do as much rp these days but even so the threads I have going are still frequently pure filth. But in fic, much less so, even though I want to. Why it all gets channeled into rp and not as much into my fanfic I do not know. Honestly I want to write a lot more of it. Smut forever!!

Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written? Sometimes, when I have a good idea. But the craziest one I ever wrote, ages ago, was a pure crackfic for my 21st birthday, where I imagined a bizarre party for myself in which LOADS of fictional characters (mostly from anime) showed up so I could make them interact in wacky ways. It was utterly ridiculous but amused me. Making all the characters voiced by Megumi "She's Everywhere!!" Hayashabara meet up and wonder why they all sound alike, for example. Also I wish I'd written an Artemis Fowl breaks into Gringotts to rob it fic before I became so disillusioned with both Artemis Fowl and Harry Potter. Heigh ho.

Have you ever had a fic stolen? Yep. It was impressive how lazy the person was about it too, they stole all the html as well. Someone brought it to my attention pretty quickly.

What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will? Shut up shut up I will finish all of them ALL OF THEM I SAY…sigh. Beauty and the Battousai. Though I should probably mention A Demon in the Dreaming and The Queen Bee. (they're plotted and outlined and parts are written aaahhh come on ADHD meds help me out here)

What are your writing strengths? Dialogue, definitely. I'm good at putting humour into things. Got compared to Patricia Wrede once and honestly, life goal achieved there. I can do memorable phrases and descriptions and edit well.

What are your writing weaknesses? What is plot. Why does it hate me. Why are my original characters one-dimensional cardboard. What is worldbuilding and how do I do it without getting stalled into paralysis. Baaaah. This is why my original novel will never be finished and I keep running back to fanfic instead.

Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic? Hoo boy contentious subject! I love reading it so long as it's translated somewhere in the footnotes, I'd be happy to write it if I knew other languages, the question of whether it should be italicized or not has apparently Officially been settled by The Publishing Industry on the side of Not.

First fandom you wrote for? Oh gosh I think it was the Dragonlance books by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman. The first that ever got shown to other people was Ranma 1/2 though.

Favorite fic you’ve written? It's still What Custom Strictly Divided. Though Unusual Strings comes very close.

Ever since I was young, I was into various things, such as drawing, writing, creating various headcanons, reading, sleeping (this one is obvious) and, obviously, wanting to be original. I started to both draw and write ever since I was a little kid, and though most of my stories were either lost to time, were deleted ‘cause I was embarrassed and decided to just delete them from existence, I still improved through time, the same goes for drawings. However, unlike with stories, the old drawings are, mostly, still saved on my pen drive, however, most of them are from the year 2019, so it’s just 5 years ago. If I ever decide to post some of my old art there, I would do it as a form of redrawing those drawings, so I wouldn’t really feel ashamed of myself.

I’m really into various topics as well, mainly the darker ones, such as death, loss of loved ones, addictions, dark thoughts, dealing with various mental problems, having to come up with the past of the loved ones, that you recently learnt through the most unexpected way, torture, politics (as in, learning why things are that way, and not in another way), history (because I just love learning about the past, especially about Mediaeval Times and the last century). However, don’t expect me to get political - I just want to get away from the real world and just enjoy every free moment I have, and also I know, how people can get heated due to that topic.

The mascot of this blog is a character called “Miroslav Bochto”, who seems to be, at first, just a normal, anthropomorphised food object (there is an object version of him), however actually isn’t an object at all. His reference, under his “used” form is there:

Miroslav will be used mainly in “personal” art, such as in art, where I celebrate various holidays, such as vacations, Christmas, Halloween, art for other things, such as rants, reviews and just in general.

Of course, there are more than one “main” OC, however Miroslav is the main one, as he was created in thought of, directly, representing me.

Another thing I want to learn soon is how to code and create 3D models. I have my reasons - with coding I could actually create a game on my own - either a fangame for one of the fandoms I belong to, or my own original game, with modelling it’s a mix between “I want to create games” and “I want to create cool stuff, that aren’t only 2D” due to the fact, that I;m aware about the whole thing with me having to not only learn how to code, but also knowing how to improve the game, how to create various events, that would get the players hooked, how to not make the game be unfairly hard or unfairly easy etc., and with modelling, I might focus on creating, firstly, only 3D models, completely for fun, and not for any games, unless… Something would change.

i do and i always will, even if it takes me a year to answer lmao. i highly appreciate anyone who takes the time off their day to comment on my silly stuff, and there’s just something deeply adorable in them saying what their favorite part was, what part made them feel this way, that way, etc. i wish i could kiss everyone who comments because they deserve it !

What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

i think it’s the third entry of the tides series, ornery, scandalous & evil. ngl pretty much all i had in mind was that i wanted it to be angsty and cram together as much characters as possible. i think it worked lmao. it also helped to set background on said characters too — like helaena and her kids, daeron and daemon. and the arrival of the very expected lucemond baby which was kinda ruined by luke. oopsie

What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

weirdly enough, i think the grace of a rotting corpse is the happiest one. of course circumstances aren’t looking good, but both luke and aemond are tucked away in their happy little moments (which are kind of gross), and as long as alicent doesn’t know, they’ll be fine.

Do you get hate on fics?

lol the first time i posted omega aemond i got flooded with weird comments that suggested i was somehow disrespecting omega luke (??? 💀) but after that, everything was fiiiiiine.

Do you write smut? If so what kind?

i do, the freaky kind— mostly because i like building up ‘intense’ scenes that end up in smut one way or another lol. the smut itself is just smut, but i enjoy the gymnastics around it.

Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?

nope. if i ever did i don’t remember. i haven’t found two ‘fandoms’ or universes i’d like to mix personally

Have you ever had a fic translated?

yeah! someone once requested to translate one of my oneshots into portuguese for another fandom and i said yes. i felt so honored

Have you ever cowritten a fic before?

no and honestly, i feel like that’s just not for me. i’ve got a very disorganized writing ‘process’ that is organized FOR ME so if i tried cowriting with someone who does it differently it would not work lol.

i feel like this changes every few months tbh. lucemond is my current fave, although there are other asoiaf ships i read about too like rheanicent

What's a WIP you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?

oof. born from delicate violence maybe? listen, that fic was my baby. i loved it and i loved writing it last year, but as weeks went by i got into some bad thoughts and realized that this fic was written at an specific time of my life that i didn’t necessarily want to remember, and between the things to remember, was the inspiration for this fic. i still like it and i do think i still have the original doc for the finale, so perhaps i’ll post it one day, but i feel like posting an ending that’s not even properly edited just for closure will not make me feel right. i also don’t want to post anything that i consider lackluster, since i know a lot of people followed the story last year.

besides that, i had this lucemond thingy in the docs that was very angsty, during the dance era and all. i wrote an entire summary and started the first chapter. i finished and then i just didn’t like the idea anymore, so i left it there.

What are your writing strengths?

not sure about this one. i’d like to think dialogue, or maybe to set a scene. i’m very passionate about setting scenes lmao

What are your writing weaknesses?

definitely typos. also, i finish writing something, i read it a couple of times more to ‘edit’ then post it, so i feel like i don’t spend much time actually editing it ?? hopefully that makes sense. i don’t know how to write fluff without making myself cringe either, so it’s a constant battle

Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

in fics that are not mine? i love it. for example, in hotd fics we see a lot of high valyrian stuff and i love when other authors use it as a creative resource. if translations are not available on the fic itself, sometimes i look up the word, sometimes just go with the context of the fic instead. the same with other languages; i don’t have a problem with it. now, writing it for my own fic is a whole different story. i don’t have the patience to add high valyrian in my fics, i prefer to dodge it or just refer to it instead lol. besides english i speak spanish, and if i feel a fic needs dialogue in another language, i’d choose spanish right away instead of trying to use a translator and butchering the poor language.

omg i have no idea. i’m pretty sure it’s between marvel and some creepypasta fanbase.

Favourite fic you've ever written?

so far, my absolute favorite is mean bad dog. i love aemond’s clinginess and instability. i love luke’s moral dilemmas and how he tries to fix it all in his head. yum

So, my ex's family had a lovely villa in Portugal that I visited a few times. In 2016, I went over 2 times - I had been abroad once prior to that. On the second visit to the villa, on my last day there, I was outside sketching some flowers on the roadside. Their elderly neighbour came out with her dog to see what I was doing - she didn't speak a lick of English. I was petting and fussing her dog, and she was complimenting my (then blue) hair by pointing to my hair, miming water/making ocean sounds, saying "Azul!!" while putting her hand on her chest, and following it with a thumbs up. I was grinning my head off.

After a while of our mimed conversation, she motioned for me to follow her to look at the flowers in her garden (pointing at my drawing, then to her house), so I did. Her garden was lovely rocky terrain with hardy flowers creeping onto every surface. There were several larger rocky ledges that acted like sparse stairs down the steep. Even though I had almost a foot of height on her and could easily navigate them, every single time we came across one, she'd slowly sit down on the ledge and carefully stand up, brush her hands off on her faded pink apron, then turn around to offer me her hand/make sure I got down safely. I took her hand every single time. At one point, I saw the biggest pinecone I had ever seen in my life - easily the size of my face - and clearly my amazement was plastered over my face as the little old lady scooped it up, brushed it off, opened my satchel and put it inside for me to keep.

After about an hour, my ex's mum came to find me and we went back inside after they shared a brief conversation in broken Portuguese. I drew lots of pictures of the lady's garden for her, made a makeshift envelope with the words "thank you!" written across it, and posted them through her letterbox that night before heading to the airport.

About 6 months later, in 2017, we went back over. On day 2 of us being there, someone knocked on the gate and my ex's mum answered. She came back inside about 10 minutes later and excitedly told me *I* had a visitor. I was super confused, but I went outside - and there was the elderly neighbour, with her dog, alongside another younger man (her nephew) with *his* dog. As soon as I come out, the neighbour loudly exclaimed "Blue!! Blue hair. Blue hair like dog. I bring more dog for blue hair!!!"

The next time I visited, she was out of town, and I wish I had known that was my last time going over. I hope she is sat in her garden now, enjoying a lemonwater, while her little dog rolls around in the aubretia flowers. I hope she knows that, in the 6 years since I last saw her, I've drawn her garden a million times since.

Yesterday afternoon we went looking for Catholic churches that we've never visited here in the city, because every time you go into a new church, you can make three wishes and pray three Hail Marys, and they will come true. He told me this story, and I believe it — we believe it.

December was a difficult month. My father had some health problems — thankfully, he has overcome them — that made me contemplate mortality. Not in the analytical, critical way that I usually do, but in a frighteningly personal way.

I don’t talk much about my family. In general, I find it too personal to discuss with others. I find it uncomfortable. But then again, I’ve been thinking about uncomfortable things lately.

My father is immensely proud of me. He tells everyone he meets what degree I studied and where I went to college; the other day I met the real estate agent and some potential buyers for the apartment we live in and they already knew who I was, what I studied and where I studied, and what I do for a living, because he had already introduced me, and they had barely stepped through the front door. Everyone who spends more than five minutes talking to him knows.

He’s never been one for great displays of affection, though. My father has always been a person of silent understanding. A mathematical constant, so to speak, after all, he likes numbers like I do. When I, with my newly obtained driver's license, bumped into another car, he was the one I called; the first thing he asked me was if I was okay, and to hell with the rest. The other day, I forgot something trivial at home and called him to come down and bring it down to me in the garage, and since I'm not used to calling, I only ever text, he immediately asked if everything was okay or if something had happened. It's his first instinct. He worries if I get home late, or if it's raining when I'm out. He tells me to let him pay for my lunch when I'm in my post-grad classes, even though I work, just so I don't have to spend my own money.

My mother always said that we are alike. From her, I inherited an X chromosome and the eyebrows, nothing else. From my father, I inherited a lot of things: the smile, the gentle way of speaking, the taste for sweets, the contemplative silence, the patience. I insist that he should wear the plaster cast for the right amount of time. I struggle to get him to take his aspirin pills properly, every day. I tell him to stop using toothpicks, because they are bad for his gums. I worry so much that the day he was in the hospital, I could barely sleep. I don't say all this, but he knows.

I also inherited a certain irreducible optimism from my father. Besides music I also love to watch movies! My favorite right now is probably The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly. I also write sometimes and will probably be a lifelong learner because there are so many skills I want to pick up but I just don’t have the time right now.

I play the saxophone and would love to get into theatre.

Another one of my interests is linguistics and learning languages! I can speak conversational Spanish, very rudimentary Portuguese, and can read the Russian alphabet.
