Wisdom Kaye is a popular model, video creator, and fashion influencer well-known for his unique style and presence on social media. In January 2020, he created his TikTok, @wisdm8, to express his love and creativity for fashion, all while studying electrical engineering in college. Amid the pandemic, Wisdom Kaye was able to achieve social media fame with his rendition of the ‘Vogue Challenge’ and managed to accumulate 2 million followers within 6 months (Allaire, 2020). However, Wisdom Kaye initially tried gaining a fan base through Twitter. It was on that platform that he decided to instead focus primarily on video content, which brought him to TikTok and began his new career, eventually becoming signed with IMG. He received opportunities, working with brands including Gucci, Dior, and Coach, serving as a guest judge on Project Runway, and received back-to-back Streamy Awards (Forbes, 2023).

“The fashion community is not the biggest on TikTok. Dancing and comedy make up the majority of the platform, and within the fashion community, there are not that many male fashion creators. What sets my page apart, and what has contributed to my growth, is that I show the limitlessness of fashion.” - Wisdom Kaye, (Allaire, 2020).

As of now, Wisdom Kaye has 9.4 million followers on TikTok and has been labelled, “Best Dressed Guy on TikTok,” by Vogue. At the age of 21, Forbes included Kaye in the ‘30 Under 30: Art & Style’ for 2023. In just four years, Wisdom Kaye was able to redirect his aspirations in life by expressing his creativity and using social media to its fullest potential.

When deconstructing Kaye’s rise to fame, the democratization of the web has played a crucial role. It has made it easier for individuals like Wisdom Kaye to share their content with a global audience. Social media platforms have lowered barriers to entry, allowing anyone with an internet connection to create and distribute content. The accessibility and visibility of modern-day technology provide a level playing field for content creators, regardless of who they are and where they come from. Kaye showed his distinctive fashion sense without traditional gatekeepers like fashion magazines or modelling agencies.

Social media can also foster communities of people who share interests in fashion. Wisdom Kaye was able to connect with fellow fashion enthusiasts, engage with his audience, and build a loyal fanbase. The direct interaction and feedback from his followers fuel the growing popularity of his platforms.

Including Wisdom Kaye’s eye-catching fashion looks, the ability to keep up with trends and challenges helps increase his exposure thus contributing to his fame. Overall, with the tools, platforms, and opportunities for connections, Wisdom Kaye achieved fame in the fashion industry with the power of social media.

Now that Halloween is coming up, who should the Losers cosplay as?

aaaah i'm actually not one to dress up for halloween, but i do love thinking about my favorite characters' halloween costumes <3

richie: i've said it a thousand times, but werewolf richie will always be my fave! i also love han solo richie; he would beg for eddie to be his leia or luke haha! richie also would be the perfect candidate to dress in a punny halloween costume like cereal killer :)

eddie: i've also said it a thousand times, but vampire eddie is another fave! i adore eddie being spiderman or luke skywalker too! and since he had such an obsession with cowboys as a kid, cowboy eddie is another costume i would love to see him in!

mike: ok, so in my head, mike is the biggest weeb of all, so i think he would definitely dress up as an anime character! i'm thinking someone like naruto, because he's also sunshine, or someone cool like gojo! if you ever seen @wisdm8 on tiktok, i totally envision mike to be like him: adding a stylish spin to a regular cosplay!

bill: he would probably do something super artsy and pretentious like dressing up as andy warhol and carrying a campbell's soup can around or being bob ross like lexi was in euphoria haha! he's kind of a wild card though, like he could have a very meta and "deep" costume like dressing in all black and saying he's "darkness" or a black hole lol, or he could be completely stupid and dress up like a minion. it's really a mystery!

stan: he's like me and goes for very basic low-effort outfits. he doesn't buy anything new and uses stuff he has on hand to make his costume. i can see him dressing up as a "bird watcher" which would just be his regular daily outfit lol or putting a sheet over his head to be a ghost. but i think once he gets together with patty, he'd totally be up for doing couple costumes with her!

ben: he also keeps it simple imo. i can see him being a cowboy like eddie. ben's super creative and very hands on so i think he would build his costume if possible, like using cardboard to make a lil horse he carries around lol. or since his canon fear was a mummy, making real paper mache to make the costume instead of plain toilet paper!

bev: omg bev would loooove halloween and dressing up! like ben, she's hands on and it's canon that she's a designer, so i definitely think she makes her own outfit. i love the idea of her being a witch, i know she would add a cool spin to her costume to make it unique. but i mostly love the thought of her having a costume that transcends gender stereotypes, like being a knight or a pirate! she would look amazing in those especially if she added her creative designs to them!

finally, i do see them doing group outfits as well like maybe dressing up as marvel/dc superheroes or the scooby doo gang! i think halloween would be their favorite holiday because they can pretend to be something they're not so they're free to have fun and be as carefree as they please :')

I feel it's because most of them are from TikTok exclusively despite the sub title implying they were looking at a variety of platforms; most of them don't even claim to have a presence outside of TikTok. Outside the top three it's like, 15 TikTokers & 7 people covering every other platform. There's no TikTokers in the top three, but there are names with reach outside their platform like Good Mythical Morning & Mr. Beast. Consider Kai Cenat (#1) has the bizarre qualifier of "most subscribers of any influencer on Twitch" I'm guessing A) there's was a weird qualifier applied to nominees in general or B) the authors only use tiktok in daily life and aren't even remotely checking their biases.

They also only had like... 500 nominees across four platforms which feels pretty low for a big publication like Rolling Stone. It's just tunnel vision, me thinks. If you don't use TikTok you can safely vote 1-5 or 6-10 without giving Rollingstone the traffic for their long-form Tiktok ad. If you want to see who you recognize without clicking the full list is:

TikTok- Wisdom Kaye

Wisdom Kaye is a 6’4 African American man who started posting videos in the same corner of his room on TikTok under the username wisdm8. Each video showcased a different outfit that he had put together for the day. Just by doing this he had quickly amassed a million followers, but he managed to take his following a step further. He started to take challenges from his followers in the comment section, allowing them to suggest inspiration for an outfit. In this video he creates an outfit based on anime from a suggestion from a follower. In another video he takes up the challenge of a particular color scheme from a follower. In the article, ‘Meet Wisdom Kaye, the Fashionable TikToker Turned IMG Model’, Kaye himself says “The fact that anyone can post a video and it can go viral is something very, very unique,” Kaye points out. “What TikTok really has a leg up on is that discoverability aspect.” The model said that the easy access to discoverability made it easier to propel forward. He often speaks on how he remained consistent and thought of different tactics to continuously invigorate his audience, for example finding different pieces to style or learning editing techniques to diversify the way his videos were shot. The way Kaye shoots his videos is unique because of the transitions, they require precision and top notch editing skills like that of a professional digital editor. It is one of the skills that made him stand out to IMG who quickly signed him as a model. He has since worked with Dior, Fendi, Ralph Lauren, Coach, and Revlon. His TikTok account currently has a total of 8 million followers while his Instagram has 2.2 million followers.
