After renewing my smartphone (following a shock and a broken screen on the previous one), see this post, and changing my mobile operator (the 5G tariff is too high), I'm also changing my Internet provider (fiber).
Why?
I'm happy with the current one in terms of value for money, but :
They've just proposed (last November) an offer with a much higher speed for a very low price, without the possibility for former customers like me to migrate to it.
They've just told me (a few days ago) that they'll charge for any migration to cheaper packages, and also for cancellations.
That's enough for me to go and see the competition!
I've found an offer that I like, basically more or less the offer I can't get with my current provider for one euro more, but with unlimited telephony to landlines in my country as well.
Currently: €34.50 for 1 Gbit/s, unavailable offer €24 for 8 Gbit/s, competing offer €25 for 5 Gbit/s (none of the speeds are guaranteed and the 8 Gbit/s offer seems unavailable to my home and will fall back to 2 Gbit/s).
There's a downside.
I used to be a customer of this provider and I didn't leave on good terms. When I cancelled, they started by telling me that I hadn't cancelled (false, porting my phone number is equivalent to cancelling). Then that I hadn't returned their equipment (false, I had an acknowledgement of receipt), then that the deadlines hadn't been met and that I owed them cancellation fees (false, my acknowledgement of receipt mentions the date of receipt), then they instructed a collection agency to obtain these fees, put pressure on me, threaten me with a lawsuit and blah blah blah. In the end, they stopped because the costs they were incurring had exceeded what they felt I owed them.
I'm still not afraid, I'm trying it, I don't know if they will confirm my order and/or ask me anything. Whatever will happen, will happen.

Why? There are just as many cases where it's more important to protect yourself than anything else, and in these cases, protecting yourself becomes “what you don't want”.
Is it better to look for a good job or not to starve? In other words, accept a job that's not very rewarding, not very well paid, not at all in keeping with your studies and qualifications, but survive?
It's also perfectly possible not to concentrate. On nothing. Some people do it, and they're no worse off than others.
And here's another example: Imagine I'm a homosexual activist and I find myself in front of 10 homophobes armed to the teeth, determined to silence me. What should I do? Assume, claim and die… or run away and live?
Your dichotomy makes no sense.
Wouldn't you be a life coach and the guru of a cult?
