Seedling update!

The bok choy has fully formed true leaves and got its first drink of dilute fertilizer yesterday. I'll be sowing some seed in the cold frame bare spots today. I expect that will germinate and grow more slowly. The Swiss chard has caused me to raise that end of the shop light to keep from burning them. No progress on the Chinese cabbage, but I checked the seed packet and realized it was 10 years old (oops) and cabbage seeds don't tend to last that long. I added an excessive pinch of extra seed to each cell to see if any will germinate at all. If not, I do have another variety to use that's only 2 years old and will start it Fridayish.

Chinese broccoli proceeding nicely. Still no germination from the celeriac. Need to check the stats on that one to see if adding more seed is indicated.

Bulbing fennel is up! Only one cell is a dud so I added two more seeds. Tried growing this one in the earthboxes last year and while it grew nicely, it didn't bulb up. Instead I let it flower to support beneficials and used it to seed save. I still used seed from the original packet for this year, but I'll try planting it in the ground (raised bed) to see if the container was the problem. It will be in the same general area as the bronze fennel, so no seed saving this year.

And finally, I got two hands of older ginger in this week's haul of food waste for the chickens. It's a bit early, but I'm soaking them (to remove the anti-sprouting compounds) and will pot them up to grow. It generally takes 3-6 weeks for the sprouts to appear so I'll keep the pot in my very warm, bright bathroom until at least May. I've got some additional hands saved from last year's harvest to plant as well (without the anti-sprouting stuff) but they'll be going directly in two huge outdoor pots once it's warm enough.

This week's seeds to start will be basil and peppers. Have to go assess my overwintered pepper plants to see what's going to survive. I didn't keep any Shishito or pimento plants, so those for sure. I have genovese and sweet thai basils. Wish i had lemon basil too (it's SO good tossed with roasted veggies), but I'm out. Might also start a few cells of garden sage and thyme. I tried overwintering my thyme as I had a full small earthbox of it, but it died immediately upon moving it indoors *sad face*

i think the reason why im so drawn to spirit tracks and pkmn scarvi is that having the legendary/princess as a companion rather than a goal that marks the games completion makes me feel satisfied the way i would after helping a friend

my brother always teases me about how I still havent finished botw after almost 7 years bc "id rather be out picking flowers" which i wont say is untrue. and yes i know Zeldas been holding off ganon for 100 years, yes i can get some sort of idea what her relationship with link was like by recalling memories and going through her diary. ive always loved botw for its unique storytelling and setting which makes it stand out, because it lets you get to know who you're saving.

but because theyre memories, it only works if theres something for the player to investigate that already happened. its retroactive (but effective nonetheless)

on the other hand, spirit tracks does something similar but instead of having the player try to piece together memories and interpret them as a spectator, you actually have an opportunity to get to know zelda yourself by talking to her and working together. besides making it a gameplay mechanic, giving the player control over how they interact with zelda makes it so much more personable.

and I find that making the goal feel personal instead of an obligation gives me more of a reason to work towards it. I know what kind of person botw zelda was but as the player, shes still very much a stranger to me. but spirit tracks zelda? thats my friend!!!! she invited me to go to the beach after we get her body back!!! i dont want to whip her to make her move faster thats mean :(

Au where Michael witnesses his father commit a more recent murder, and William kills him for seeing it

I imagine in this au there's two security puppets- Charlie is in the one on the inside, and Michael comes to possess the one on the outside. The jack-in-a-box style animatronic was put in after Charlie's death when Henry found out she'd been trapped outside

The security Puppet outside is absolutely massive- approximately 9 feet tall, but unable to leave the box its in. It's an actual animatronic, with its own prize corner for birthday parties set outside.

Michael kind of hates the animatronic he's stuck in, but he takes his security job very seriously. Michael has always been protective, and now he's even more protective, especially of the missing children. He's extremely protective of his little brother, having never gotten a chance to accidentally kill him like in canon.

In this au, Michael actually has access to cameras inside and outside, meaning he can keep an eye on everyone.

This means he's VERY aware of what the masked bullies were wanting to pull on CCs birthday. The second he heard they were gonna shove his little brother into Fredbears mouth, Michael tore himself from his box, breaking the cable connecting him to it and ignoring the fact that he completely lacks feet.

Once he'd broken in via the vents, CC was already in the bears mouth- and Michael was far too late to save his baby brother.

After that, Michael protected his little brother more than anyone else, refusing to let the golden suit his brother resides in leave his sight.
