It breaks my heart. Australia is on fire, and has been for too long. My heart aches for the people and their homes that have been affected by the fires, and for the millions of innocent and beautiful animals injured and dying right now. Australia is where I grew up, and it makes me so sad to see this happening to such a beautiful country. I’ve had a passion for animals for as long as I can remember, and the devastating loss of wildlife in Australia has been weighing heavily on my heart. Almost a billion animals have been affected by the fires and millions have been estimated dead.

Seeing the images and footage of the bushfires over the past several months has been gut-wrenching, and I wanted to help in any small way that I could. So I created this piece as a hopeful tribute to our furry Aussie friends! Prints will be available for just $10 through my Etsy shop (link in bio) and 100% of the profits will be donated to WIRES Wildlife Rescue (www.wires.org.au) to help the animals suffering from this tragedy.

There are many talented artists, organizations, and crowdfunding campaigns doing their part to help with the loss, and I truly hope you would consider giving to ANY one of them! This is just my own personal contribution to the cause.

Author Jessica Bellef @jessicabellef and I, with the support of Sun Studios @sunstudios and Murdoch Books @murdochbooks , are raising money for WIRES Australian Wildlife Rescue (Australia's largest wildlife rescue organisation) with a limited time sale of 5 photographic prints. The 5 images available are never-seen-before outtakes from ‘Individual’, the book that Jess and I created to celebrate interesting Aussies and their homes. Each 16 inch x 24 inch unframed print is $AU150 (free postage) and printed on Canson 100% cotton rag 300 GSM fine art paper. The fires in Australia have been on my mind a lot lately so I wanted to do some art to show my support and encourage people to make a donation to help rescue all the poor animals suffering from not only fire injuries but the huge loss of habitat! 🔥🚒👩‍🚒😭

I tried to scan this drawing but it was too hot for my scanner to handle lol 😂 So here it is au natural, while I try to tinker with the scanner settings so that the colours don't end up so blown out ha ha

@wireswildliferescue For 365 days a year WIRES #1 priority is wildlife rescue. Thanks to the incredible support of our volunteers, vets and community callers, hundreds of sick, injured and orphaned animals are helped every day. From 1st Feb WIRES 1300 rescue line has received 15,650 calls and WIRES volunteers have accepted over 2,900 rescues. One of our recent rescues was a rare platypus rescue. Local resident, Jason was walking along a beach south of Pambula last Thursday he saw a small furry animal on the water’s edge. As he approached he couldn't believe his eyes when he discovered it was a platypus puggle. Fortunately, Jason knew that platypus live in freshwater and rightly assumed it must have been washed out of its habitat in the floodwaters that were laden with ash and silt from the recent fires. He carefully picked up the exhausted little platypus and gently placed into an open Esky to drive it home and immediately contacted WIRES. Janine from WIRES Far South East went to collected the orphaned youngster which seemed subdued but with no obvious injuries and weighed in at just 350 grams. After monitoring his health for the next 48 hours and in consultation with Taronga Zoo vets and National Parks and Wildlife Service it was decided to transport him to Taronga for ongoing health checks and observation. As luck would have it WIRES Vet nurse Lucy, was nearby in the WIRES Emergency Rescue van so she picked up the platypus from Janine for the six hour trip to Taronga. So 2020 has been a bit of a year so far huh? Many of my artist friends have beat me to it and created their own wonderful Koala themed artwork to try and help out with the fires in Australia. So here is my contribution. This piece will cost $220 with free shipping within the United States. 100% of that will be donated to ( WIRES - Emergency Fund for Wildlife ) I’ll also have an “artJWB Koala” design available @redbubble . As well as prints @fineartamerica . Any artist profits I make from those sales I will donate to Country Fire Authority (CFA) in Victoria or WIRES. I’m more than happy to post a video or image for you confirming my donations from print and apparel sales as soon as these sites pay out to their artists and I receive my portion. I’m currently trying to get by as an artist, I’ve basically been working as an independent contractor since arriving here in Fort Collins.
