Unedited photos of an unfired stoneware clay sculpture I've made. Looking a bit ominous in the sharp light on a white table in the workshop.
Taking photos of stuff is hard. Really hard. But these I like (and like how they look together). I'll get some more photos of this once I've fired it and painted it.

Feeling like I'm in my Flop Era lately, so to combat this I will give you a look at a duo of dolls I'm working on. (Patrons saw it first :))

Inspired by this busted lad from @shiftythrifting I wanted to make a red-eyed sculpt based on him for a jewelry/ring dish. Since I live in AZ I didn't want to go with a scarf so he's sporting a posh little vest.

Guys. Guysss. Took me 3 weeks but I finished the sculpting 🤩🤓

Now I get to paint it (awesome) while hoping it'll continue to go well (mildly stressful). Ah, the rollercoaster of making art 🙃
Some closeups and a video under the cut, for ✨funsies✨

Ps. The light is a random led fairy light I had, the battery box is covered in clay and the cable is inside a tentacle 🙃

It's not finished yet, but here's one of my first attempts at oil painting on stoneware clay. The clay has been fired first at around 900 degrees, then sanded, clay painted and glazed (at the base only), then fired again at around 1300 degrees I think (aka damn hot) and now I've started painting it.
As I said, not finished yet. I haven't painted the other side of it and I need to add to this side as well. But oil paint has that nice shimmer to it that is hard to get on camera, so in real life the coat already looks pretty nice simply because of characteristics of oil paint itself. I hope this works. I'll probably varnish it in some way once I feel good enough about the paint job.
To be continued...
(Also, this sculpture has a little secret. I'll show it once I'm finished painting it.)
Oil paint on stoneware clay, yes/no?
I've just started playing around with sculpture using stoneware clay. It's really fun, I'm loving it. And sure, glazing can look real good, and there are clay paints that can be used to pait and draw on it. And special wax crayons. There are alternatives.
However.
I really like oil paint. Because of how you can build up layer upon layer, and all the nuances and just how easy it is to work with. So now I wonder if I could use oil paint on stoneware clay.
Notes: This would not be on bowls and stuff that would be used. Only on sculptures that are to be seen but not touched. It also would not be covered with glaze, or in any way combined with anything else. Once I paint on the sculpture with oil paint - no more kiln. (Other parts of the sculpture could have glaze though, just not in combination with oil) The clay would be properly fired, and I don't mean I'd paint on glaze. Although, maybe matte glaze could work. I'd have to try.
So, sculptors and clayshapers of tumblr, do you think it would work? Have you tried? Did it stick properly? Did the clay suck up all oil and the pigments started dusting off? Any experience and thoughts are welcome. :>

I have finished the scultping/masking tape, I can finally start the paper mache and get them painted and then finally hung from the ceiling.
They’re supposed to look janky as they’re based on a 500 yr old taxidermied crocodile that’s been hanging from a ceiling and are missing some teeth and feet.
Based on this special guy
