Existing noncompetes for senior executives - who represent less than 0.75% of workers - can remain in force under the FTC’s final rule, but employers are banned from entering into or attempting to enforce any new noncompetes...

No more, "if you stop working for us, you can't work for any of our competitors for X years."

No more having to decide between staying at a terrible job or switching to an entirely different industry.

The Commission also finds that instead of using noncompetes to lock in workers, employers that wish to retain employees can compete on the merits for the worker’s labor services by improving wages and working conditions

This ruling is from Apr 23, 2024, and is supposed to go into effect on September 4, 2024.

Odds are, enforcement of noncompete contracts between now and September is going to be difficult. It won't be impossible--companies can still theoretically try to go after workers who quit and take up a new job in violation of a noncompete, and presumably can continue with penalties/lawsuits related to that over several years while trying to prove things--but it'll be harder, and they'll have to decide if it's worth the money to chase down one person when they know it can't have a chilling effect on future employees.

In the past, a rep for enforcing noncompetes made it useful to prosecute; once that rep isn't useful, it only serves to drive away potential new employees. The financial benefit to companies was never based on "penalize the people who broke the noncompete" but "force everyone else to stay at a shitty job so they don't risk going bankrupt fighting the noncompete contract." Enforcement was devastating to workers but not an actual gain for the company.

Okay, so the trashed hotel room is going to be super expensive, BUT -

I haven’t seen anyone talk about the karaoke bar! Bro, there were bottles of liquor out, someone was pouring clear liquor from a bottle into shot glasses for everyone. Buying straight up liquor bottles from a bat is NOT cheap, & Buck is the one that rented the room & everything for the bachelor party.

So, once they get the tab from the karaoke bar, the fees for the hotel room (from Chimney bc there’s no way that man is paying for those damages on a hotel room he didn’t even stay in) PLUS the bill for wherever tf they got the bottle of whiskey from in the hotel room (bc nobody had that when they arrived at the room), bruh they’re going to have to move in together to have enough money to pay all that off 😂

Bill Cipher (human form) full-body

Start note: Wooh! I finished with this, finally ! This is like the one time I’m drawing this guy in boxers only. So fear not, Bill Cipher has not chosen the path of utter decadence (it’s alright guys, he just needs his bow tie). I wanted to add cipher text too but considering the size of my drawings, let’s just pretend he’s got some more tattoos with glow in the dark ink. Nothing much to say except that Bill is now a scrawny little guy (with a ginormous ego, lots of sass but not much ass) who trips over his own feet. He might have two eyes now, but his depth perception still sucks.

Quick list of body markings and how he got them:

-burn scars: this occurred when he spawned in a human vessel, gaining a physical form was an increasingly painful process of his body getting twisted and reshaped in flames.

-shatter scars: a wink to the blue scar he got from getting punched in the eye in Stanley’s mindscape. Each time he abuses of his powers, new (temporary) cracks may rip and spread over his body. The only permanent one is on his face.

-brick tattoo pattern : to replicate the brick pattern on his triangular form.

-eye tattoos (x4) :two open on each shoulder, and two closed, one on the clavicle and another the upper back. Acquired them during his transmutation.

-star markings on chest: acquired them during his transmutation. (Yes, we can say it’s some badass top surgery scars)

-ankh tattoo on right forearm: Ankh, in Egyptian mythology, is a symbol for life. Bill drew it on his forearm back at the Theraprism with washable markers but it stuck to him when he acquired a human shell.

-triangle-shaped spot on the neck: this is more of a ‘birthmark’, it appeared when he lost his triangular form. Additionally , in alchemy triangles represent fire…so…👀 -summoning wheel on the back: I….just thought it would make sense for him to have his summoning circle printed on his back. I’ve seen people integrate it in his design in the past. “Made in china” sticker core, I don’t know.

-black line tattoos on wrists: they represent a continuity and the additional chain tattoo (which is barely visible on the picture but it’s there!) on his left wrist is there as a seal for the covenant between him, Soos, and the Axolotl. It’s a reminder that he is regulated by a strict set of rules, one of which is not to leave the premises of Gravity Falls until he is deemed fully reformed.

End note: now this would be interesting to unpack the whole concept when I write the fic. (hopefully my hyperfixation won’t go away by December, otherwise good bye fic idea 😔)

I think it's a mistake to assume that computer generation (so-called AI) is the only manifestation of the exploitation that workers (especially in artistic fields that are already considered lesser) experience. The problems that they experience are, I think, exasperated by computer generation, but it isn't like there were no problems with compensation, theft, or other forms of exploitation.

The problem is the exploitation, and I think sometimes, people lose sight of that in these conversations.

Ok, so… Belgium legalised sex work in 2022, meaning sex workers could register themselves as independent contractors and have a fully legal framework for their income, which was already a huge win, but still left the profession in a grey-ish area.

Today, a law was proposed that would give sex workers the right to sign an employment contract, meaning a sex worker in a brothel would be fully recognised as an employee by the government, with all the relevant rights associated with that (social security, pension rights, leave days, unionisation, etc) as well as legal protection under Belgian labour law in case of disputes with their employer. The law also includes special clauses for the profession, such as refusing a customer not being grounds for termination, and new standards for safety and cleanliness of registered sex work establishments.

I’m proud to be Belgian today; crossing my fingers this makes it through.
